Not sure if updates are a thing on this sub but here it goes. I posted my 1985 Merckx on here a while ago looking for some advice. Since then I’ve put some fresh H Plus Son TB14 on in anodized gray, swapped the bottle cage for an Elite Ciussi Inox, restored some old (1990’ish) Shimano quick releases from the parts bin and swapped out the old crusty brake pads for some waaaaay better performing Kool Stop Dura road holders (and pads).
The next steps; restoring two crusty Shimano 600 PD-6207 pedals and leather straps from the parts bin, wrap the bars in something white (open to suggestions), find a San Marco badge that’s missing from the left side of the Rolls saddle somewhere (where do I even look for something like that) and put some tan walled tires on. I’ve been riding Conti GP 4000 and 5000’s for years and love them, so I’m temped to just go with the tan walled version of the GP5000 but am also temped to try some Vittoria Corsas or Challenge Stradas but I’d love to hear your thoughts, suggestions and experiences with this these or other options. TLDR; update, new parts, need suggestions on period correct(ish) bar tape, tan walled tires, EU stores that sell vintage small parts, components, accessories, badges, etc.
