It’s the start of a new political season, and Sir Keir Starmer has launched it with a downbeat speech warning of a “painful” short term future for the country with unpopular decisions ahead. He once more lay the blame for those decisions at the door of the Tories.

But was setting such a pessimistic tone a miscalculation by the new government? And how long can the prime minister keep blaming the Conservatives? Kamal and Camilla are back together, along with Telegraph Political Editor Ben Riley-Smith, to answer those questions and explain why Camilla thinks Starmer just hasn’t got “it”.

Plus, Ben has updated his book Blue Murder about the fall of the Conservative government and reveals his conversations with Tory insiders about the real reasons Rishi Sunak called an early general election.
