I'm looking for a bike to level up from my 2016 Liv Alight 3. It served me well as a first bike, and proved I'd like to keep commuting my ~5 mile daily ride, but I’m in Seattle (rainy, hilly, USA) and I have either a 15° or 22° hill to tackle anytime I leave my house for work or fun and I ended up converting the Liv to e-bike with a front hub motor just to break down the barrier of getting on the saddle.
Considering all this and that I needed an XS-frame bike, my lbs fitted me with the 2022 Trex FX Sport 4, currently on closeout for $1399.
- It was a lovely ride, fit was good, I love how lightweight it is and it’s an obvious upgrade from my Alight.
- However, I’m worried as in my test ride I took one steeper hill (roughly ~28°) and was on the lowest gear. It was only a block and I made it fairly easily, but I don’t think I would’ve been able to keep going 3 blocks or more.
- At this price point, should I keep looking or are my concerns unfounded?
