Matt Richardson, Paris 2024 Medalist, Switches Allegiance to Represent Great Britain in Track Cycling
——
Track cyclist Matt Richardson, who won three medals for Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympics, has switched nationality to represent Great Britain. The 25-year-old, born in Kent but raised in Australia, cited a personal decision after careful consideration. He will join Great Britain’s sprint squad, coached by Sir Jason Kenny. Although Richardson acknowledges his deep respect for Australia, he’s eager to push himself to new heights. His switch came as a surprise to AusCycling, which expressed disappointment at losing a successful athlete but acknowledged the emotional pull of competing for one’s birth country.
