Join Corkbuzz for a series of virtual classes that take an in-depth look at the prestigious region of Bordeaux.
In this class, we’ll be focusing on the region of the Médoc and the major communal appellations that nest within its borders. These communes produce some of the most prestigious wine in all of Bordeaux, are home to all but one of the official 1855 Classification of Bordeaux Châteauxs, and all of Bordeaux’s Cru Bourgeois. We’ll explore the communes of St. Estephe, Pauillac, St. Julien, Margaux, Listrac-Médoc, & Moulis. The deep gravel soils in the communes help create optimal growing conditions for the ripening of the these communes best grape, Cabernet Sauvignon. In cool years, producers here are know to increase the proportion of Merlot & Cabernet Franc to add more flesh and softness to the wines. Overall, understanding the nuances of each commune, and the personalities that make the wines and lead each Château, are monumental in understanding and choosing between the high priced wines of this area.
