Welcome back to “Talking TV,” where we bring you the latest updates from the world of sports and entertainment. Today, we have an incredible story from the 2024 Paris Olympics that you won’t want to miss.

On Sunday, Team USA added another gold medal to their impressive tally, thanks to a stunning performance by Olympic cyclist Kristen Faulkner. In a victory that marks the first time a U.S. woman has won the road race since 1984, Faulkner delivered an unforgettable finish that left fans and competitors in awe.

What makes this victory even more remarkable is that Faulkner wasn’t originally slated to compete in the road race. Chosen as a last-minute replacement for Taylor Knibb, who opted to focus on other cycling events, Faulkner was seen as an underdog. But she defied all expectations.

Throughout the race, Faulkner kept pace with the lead group, strategically positioning herself for the final stretch. After the third and final ascent, she caught up with the lead breakaway group, which included Hungary’s Blanka Vas and Marianne Vos from the Netherlands. As they approached the final three kilometers, Faulkner made her move. She surged ahead with a burst of speed, crossing the Seine and leaving her competitors in the dust.

Her final sprint was so powerful that Vos, Kopecky, and Vas were left far behind, unable to mount a challenge. Faulkner crossed the finish line in a solo triumph, with Vos taking second place, Kopecky in third, and Vas narrowly missing the podium.

Faulkner, hailing from Homer, Alaska, and originally a rower at Harvard, has come a long way since her first introductory cycling course in 2017. After moving to San Francisco to pursue cycling seriously, she turned professional just two years later and quit her day job in 2021 to focus on the sport full-time.

In just seven years, Faulkner has achieved what many dream of, bringing home USA’s first women’s road race gold in four decades.

“It’s a dream come true,” Faulkner said after the race. “It’s the best feeling in the world. I don’t know how to describe it.”

And there you have it—Kristen Faulkner’s incredible journey and her unforgettable performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe to “Talking TV” for more updates and stories from the world of sports.
