Looking at 3 lightly used bikes. Use case is multi-day touring, packed gravel trails, no single track nor racing.

  1. Marin Nicasio – $600
    • steel frame
    • claris 2×8 w/ oem crankset+cassette
    • mech disc brakes
    • 700x35mm max tire width (would prefer 40mm+)
  2. Motobecane GravelXPro – $750
    • alu
    • grx400 2×10 hydraulic discs
    • 700x40mm tires.
    • seems like a nice deal but people always say they have 'bad' frames (seems maybe outdated? QR, non-compact geo)
  3. Kona Rove LTD – $400 frame+fork
    • have most tools and near a coop for stuff like bearing presses, bleedkit etc.
    • check if my estimates are sane: ~$1300-1500 total depending on how patient/corners to cut
      1. groupset – GRX400 or 105 hydraulic, ~$400 all in. Less if I mix-n-match and split parts up. Even less if I use alt-bars and mtb groupsets.
      2. headset – ~$85 cane creek 40
      3. wheelset – $200-300 pull-off DT Swiss, whatever's on sale on velomine etc.
      4. tires – $150 already have some maxxis 40mm
      5. seatpost+clamps, saddle, stem, bars, tapes, pedals – $100-200 of parts bin, aliexpress, and used ebay, already have a bunch of this.
    • Steel, thru axle,
    • Biggest "discount" with better parts than the original specs, but it's still double the cost of the other two options.
