that tunnel you see is a loop tunnel trains come out of channel tunnel round the loop into the other tunnel you see and then out into platforms so driver doesnt have to keep changing ends

the bit that you said"disappears under the road" is the turning loop for the shuttle trains and it comes out on the other side of the site through " yet another tunnel"

Sorry to be pedantic – but I would consider changing your title and description to 'Eurotunnel's legal…'. Eurostar is a separate company whose trains merely use the tracks and pass through the tunnel. This is Eurotunnel's terminal, and they operate freight and vehicle shuttles to and from Calais Coquelles.
That loop puts the train from France into the correct position to return to France . It is a big loop.

That single hill in the back there is called Summerhouse Hill, if you want to spot Adders around the the base of that hill is brilliant, I hike the circuit along the Escarpment and tunnel fence line regualaly.
