First bike for a beginner – Cannondale Quick 6 vs. Trek FX1 Gen 4, or something else?

Pretty much the title. I haven't rode a bike since I was a child and I'm not even sure I'm going to enjoy cycling. Mostly going to be traveling on gravel/concrete before I try some light trails.

I have also been told that I should just go up and buy something more expensive like the Salsa journeyer but I really don't want to spend more than 500 USD.

These are the bikes in stores close to me. Tried looking for used/fb marketplace but the prices are either marginally lower or the sellers don't have much info on the bikes.
