Have you ever wondered if bike tech even makes you a faster, or more confident rider? Does being a bike nerd who knows everything about bike tech even matter to you? Some people seem to love bike tech so much and they are more interested with bikes than they are with riding them!

  1. If I ever get sick of my shimano mt420s I will probably go that route and stick some magura calipers on the old emtb. As far as replacing the codes on my park bike im not sure. I want to go back to something mineral oil. Probably a trp something as I want to try them.

  2. Flippinโ€™ the chipโ€ฆ Never on home ground in Bentonville. But definitely flippinโ€™ the chip when I go to lift served downhill riding. And swap the fork and wheels. It just makes it more fun.

  3. Thank you Martyn for bringing up the EDR. Discovery and the UCI are not doing nearly enough EDR coverage. I've never touched my flip chip. It's in low where I want it. Riding vs Tech, I want to be better at both.

  4. The whole knowing your bike or not, is like gold chains on rappers..
Kanye said โ€millionaires wear jewlery, billionaires dontโ€. Dave chapelle made a skit on it, telling Kanye to put his chain back on when he was dropped by adidas, and no longer a billionaire.

Tldr: if you got wanting winning towards vs riding, youll end up on an s-works and leave it at the shop when you need new brake padsโ€ฆ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
Not dissing but ive been observing since over 20years, and thats what it looks like to me..

  5. #askGMBN Whenever I stop for that perfect picture (Bike Vault), I can never find a stick to prop the bike. Do you carry your own stick and if so is this classed as a hack or a bodgeโ€ฆ. ๐Ÿค”

  6. I don't really get into the tech of my bikes, I got my first dropper post this year and although I love it on that bike, I am just as happy on a fully rigid bike just bombing around having fun. I don't think it matters as much if you're just an average rider like me but for serious riders, I see how they can use the tech. But like anything, if you're having fun, does it matter much?

  7. Without intentionally doing it, after rides where I push myself to limits I either think about how I need to adapt my riding or what components would allow me to do what I want while riding. Geo matters to me a lot as it creates the feel on the trail that makes sense to me. I donโ€™t own a bike with flip chips but that has never stopped me from experimenting with changing geo with either a longer fork or head set cups to customize the bike for my preferences

  8. My chip is definitely flipped! I rode my 2023 Specialized Stumpjumper carbon comp โ€˜as shippedโ€™ for the first 4mo or so, with the chip in the โ€˜lowโ€™ position. My typical rides involve Lots of climbing and rootsy raucous trails. Flipping that chip gave me a higher BB, quicker handling around these tight Vermont trees and better handling on the steep, punchy climbs. I suppose if I ever get into more DH, I could always flip it back.

  9. It's all about the rider, the best change teams/bikes and still rank just as high. I remember Peaty turning up at our KIS track, we'd just built a new 4X track with jumps nody would do, he turned up on a tiny hardtail, jumped out of the van and rode it all blind.
I have no time for BS and there's a lot at the high end when it comes to tech. How many riders out there have their bikes setup right? 2% maybe. I never have. I know what I roughly like, the rest is down to me.
As for flippin chips hahahahaha, I bet loads of people flip them and forget, then ride them setup the opposite to how they should be., just like all of us who blast down hills, get the the bottom and find out forks locked out!

  10. Both, you can have a santa cruz V10 but if you just got into the sport 3 months ago it's pointless, also, if your a world cup downhiller and your riding black trails on department store bikes, it's just dangerous to do, I belive there is a middle ground

  11. I think it is a way for some people to stay interested in the sport in-between riding. I do like the tech side of things, but it is all diminishing returns when you reach a certain level of bike. Ie, there is no need to spend a fortune on a bike to be good, but if those type of things keep you riding, it has to be a good thing.

  12. My wife is rocking SHIGURA brakes on her BMX eBike. Saint levers with Magura MT7 calipers and everyone that rides her bike LOVES them. ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿป๐Ÿ”ฅ

  13. bike setup……mmmmm…. i guess it depends if you're trying to
" make the bucket fit the water or allow the water to fit the bucket " ๐Ÿค”
ps thanks for the awesome show all !!!

  14. Bike tech, even weight, does matter only when it's actually the thing that holds you back. Loosing 100g on a bike is good, but are YOU at the level when it actually helps you achieving anything?
