King’s Church Halifax Sunday Gathering – 14th July 2024
for hey hello good morning God bless you are you blessed are you loved are you yes are you precious are you here are you not here no no okay listen great to see you all I see we’ve got a juggernaut wagon just turned up how you doing Kath if if you leave if you leave that there you’ll get a parking ticket okay listen let me just bring some notices to you and then we’re going to get straight in I think and worship unless there some testimonies so if youve got your notice sheet uh just to let you know we’re a church that’s now growing because we’ve got double-sided notices whoow so um last week uh Peter Hamlet I don’t think he’s here today is he came and preached about the persecuted church we took up an offering and great we raised over ,600 so let’s give thanks to God for that that’s great so thank you thank you for your generos if you weren’t here and you want to contribute to that uh very needy area of ministry uh there’s some white envelopes I believe over there if you want to give put your money in that and put it in the box or if we find the car we’ve lost the card machine at the moment so if you do want to give and you want to give by card you’ll have to come next week and do it then for some reason it’s gone missing and maybe that’s ended up in the offering as well so um we’ve got a guest speaker today Trevor Trevor live from Huddersfield hang on hang on a minute you don’t know him you’ve never heard him and yet you’re so popular how does it work Trevor anyway I’ll introduce Trevor a little bit later on but we’re going to be blessed by his ministry and finally just on the other side there’s a whole raft of notices not going to go through them all but just to say we’ve got the king’s children’s Club starting in a couple of weeks if you’re a parent you want to um you want your children to go to that if you could let the office know uh unfortunately this week Becca is on holiday so uh you’ll have to have email in and we’ll get back to you R see Kate if she’s around somewhere please do that okay so as you know we have a twom minute testimony opportunity would you repeat after me this is the one who preaches for too long how many minutes okay is there any two minute testimonies Paul Longfield my man do you want this one there’s a morning everyone it’s morning Pat nice to have you back good to be back uh just a small Testament Peter and I were out yesterday and we came across a gentleman called Derek who just lost his wife who was 73 so he was quite stressed um and we got talking to him and somehow um did he believe in God came into the conversation and he said no I’m an atheist well I thought I can’t leave it there what do I do Holy Spirit um and I just felt the Holy Spirit to prompt me to say well you may not believe in God Derek but God believes in you and God loves you and if you would have been the only person then he would have sent Jesus still to die for you um and I think there was a softening he said well I respect your belief um and i’ feel you not pressuring me but I was going out he said I shall resonate on the words that you’ve said to me I said well I’ll pray peace over you in the coming week I said but just bear in mind God does love you Derek okay so I just pray I just pray that you know a seed will be planted and he sof listen we’re going to take a moment Derek is say called listen seeds are swn we never know where they go but God is talking to people all the time maybe that was just a Divine appointment Derek’s going to have to make a response let’s just pray for him shall we right now father we just thank you for this opportunity that your love was manifested through P into this man’s heart into his life we pray Lord that that seed that is sown let it become part of a journey that will eventually bear fruit bring him to a place Lord in his life when he has to come to that crisis moment to recognize he needs God in his life Lord just touch him even today may your love continue to encounter him till he fully surrenders himself to you amen amen Pat well done Pat because you’ve got your own trials aren’t you at the moment so it’s great you’re able to minister thank you and I don’t know if it went into two minutes but there you go on that one we allow over time hi everyone um Dave hi We Salute You So I went to America I started off in Washington DC and then went to Baltimore then Cincinnati and then Dallas first thing I’d like to say is how big is America it’s like you drive between cities it’s like 600 miles just between two cities it’s just crazy but what I saw was poverty off the scale homelessness off the scale Villages of people towns of people just all homeless and uh and what I’ve realized is two things and I’ll probably speak about it one morning but one is that we’re in a spiritual war and uh let’s not be naive uh it’s serious business you know people are there’s lots of people dying because of addiction and homelessness and uh and the other thing is that um Jesus is the answer and forget about Charities forget about secular funding forget about all this other stuff Jesus Is The Answer amen okay thanks for sharing that anybody else him testimony morning today morning every I just want to give thanks to God this morning for keeping us safe when we had an accident car accident uh yesterday uh don’t know you know the the very sharp Bend coming down from Blackley uh towards um holwell green and Ellen very bad Bend we were going down down the hill motorik young lad on a bike coming the other way lost control of his bike came over onto our side of the road on that bad Bend um and you know praise God it’s just car damage isn’t it and his damage it could have been so much worse so I just want to thank God for keeping us and Alex is his name um the L who um did pick himself back up but uh it’s now and I thank God that it’s going to sort out all the insurance and the car repairs and all the damage it’s going to now to be dealt with but thank you a lot for keeping us all safe oh I say you hav been running about today go on your own okay good morning so uh just want to just want to make a testimony because uh for the past few weeks past few days few weeks I’ve been praying to God said I haven’t been witnessing to to anyone uh for the past few months even though you know I’ve been working with different people I haven’t got the chance and I pray for the past few this past few weeks to the Lord Lord bring me to the path of the person who needs you and that’s been my prayer for the past few weeks few days and then all of a sudden I got a message from a friend uh a friend of I haven’t seen for maybe 30 35 years we grew up together but we didn’t get separated when he had his own family I have mine as well so he he messaged me and he needs help he needs help financially prayer and then when I get in touch with him uh fortunately I was able to get in touch with this brother again as well and I just learned that they’ve been having not been talking for years and both of them are having this grud their heart and I God gave me the opportunity to give my my life testimony and how God worked on my life brought me out from from from the situation is into now and I told him about the Lord Jesus Christ and I told him I can I will be able to help you but the reason why you reach out for me is not to help you in your problem but to God help you get out of your situation we both grew very naughty boys you know both of us grew very very naughty we’ve done things together and that is really nice so uh now he he CH he so changing me that’s why he bro he messaged me he realized that I’m not the same person before and he wants to know what I have I said to him look I have the Lord Jesus Christ in my life and one day you will have him as well and I hope he will make a decision I said to him look we don’t have time cuz it’s the time difference was really bad it’s 8 hours ahead that uh there 8 hours ahead of us so there are 12 midnight in the morning when I having a chat with him so I said look I will we will find time together and I will tell you more about the Lord Jesus Christ and I also reached out to his brother and said look I can’t change you but the Lord Jesus Christ will change you your situation with your brother will definitely change because God will work in your life both of you so I hope I hope I will I find time again to reach out but I will because there is reason why they reach out to me and the reason why because God wants to save them God wants to wants them to know more about him okay thank you all right listen God bless you okay let’s Stand Together shall we we’re going to enter into worship or was there some more oh sorry all right just like Commander I wanted to say God is good I had I had a knee operation 3 weeks ago and apparently I should be walking around on crutes but we of course have the greatest healer ever and no crutes no Sticks no nothing I’d also just like to thank everyone for the good wishes that they sent me the prayers the cakes the chocolates cards just thank you for everybody thank you okay Jeff God bless you so Jeff will be leading Us in the dance this morning no that’s great news Jeff and we’re thrilled have we got another one sorry very quick I’d just like to say how God good is because he does hear prayers our grandson lives in Luxembourg and he plays rugby before Luxembourg and they’re up in beaed Fest this weekend playing in a tournament uh I text halfway through to see how things were going it say are not very good it’s going to be a very difficult tournament so I said oh we need prayer then so I I prayed half an hour later I got a text back when they start to finish the second game he heard we’ve won and I so no not nothing she she couldn’t believe it I said nothing’s too difficult or too small for God yeah okay we we we’re now going to have an hour and a half intercession for the England football team oh oh help us all right listen I think SP is pring as well we are we are we having a meeting here I’ve lost the plot okay why don’t we just stand together uh I don’t know about you whether it’s Blackley or Baltimore or wherever there’s plenty of need but the overriding testimony I’m hearing in the midst of all that God is good God is working God is touching lives God is ministering to people and he’s using his kids his children to be a blessing wherever they are so we’ve got a lot to give thanks for this morning we want to give all our hearts worship bless him if you’ve got your offering there’s the uh basket here whatever it’s called one at the back so please Avail yourself of that let’s just stand as we are doing let’s just lift our hands to shall we father we want to bless you today we here as your children you have demonstrated your love for us you have shown us the passionate heart that you have for us by saving us and bringing us into your family we want to just pour out our love on you to bless you to honor you to go maybe even Beyond where we’ve been before and just be exuberant in our appreciation our gratitude and may it be that our testimony today is God is good you are we’re going to go into the word now who’s taking the children today K okay so we’ll just release them at this point we do have a crash up to everybody but it’s uh parent supervision so um if that’s okay just to let you know and the children are with precious upstairs from 5 and Up Hallelujah so thank you do you want to take a seat got well we’re going to come back to worship after the message so just have a short time at the end uh to just catch hold of what we’ve been deposited in us so it’ll be a response moment to the word that’s coming so Trevor Lloyd you obviously love him you obviously think he’s great so why am I bothering saying anything about him well for those of you who don’t know him uh Trevor until recently has been the senior pastor of the Community Church in Huddersfield uh a church that’s growing has been making its impact there in Huddersfield Trevor and I go back uh kind of a long ways don’t we you see his hair same color well he’s got hair I haven’t as much but we’ve been on a journey hav’t we Trev for some years we were all connected together through a Apostolic uh Ministry called Covenant Ministries which we were part of with a guy called Brin and Kerry Jones um and so we go back that far and then we kind of lost touch didn’t we and reconnected a couple of years ago through a charity here in the town where you were working in it and I was we got connected then and uh we kind we’ve meta well more than occasion haven’t we and I’ve sat with Trev we had coffee together and just I’ve enjoyed his heart his Fellowship what he’s carrying as his own Journey with God has pressed in there and I asked him I said look come and share and he was glad to till he got to the outskirts of alifax and realized all the roads were closed and they sent they sent him all over the world Baltimore Blackley where have you been anything Brig out anyway don’t know um so I’m I’m hungry to hear um Trevor what you’ve got I’m sorry I’m not setting you up too highly am I uh just to say that you are looking for a move out your in your life at the moment and cdale could be part of that plan so what that’s wisdom you see um so we’ll see where that goes so Trev come on let’s just pray with you um I was captured by that little line in one of the songs in my father’s house there’s a place for me do you know the place that God has for you have you discovered that well I’m sure whatever there’s something going to be added to your understanding today and part of that place is you’ve been invited to the dining table of Revelation and we’re going to be fed today so open your heart get ready to receive just be available in your spirit just to say Lord speak to me I want to hear not just a word that will just satisfy a moment in a meeting but something that will be added to me on my journey that will become part of a lifestyle of just whatever we’re going to hear so father we just thank you today thank you for Trevor thank you for the deposit of Christ in him the revelatory Realms that he carries within his own Spirit May there be a release for him in this Gathering today may he find Freedom Liberty and just to enjoy you and enjoy being amongst us and may we feed from what he’s carrying as we come to that table hungry to hear Hungry to respond and hungry to be challenged that we will be changed something will be affected in us because of what we’ve dined at today bless him bless us through your ministry of your word by your spirit in Jesus mighty name now you can welcome him thank you so much for for such a a warm welcome it’s great it really is great to be to be with you um I I actually have have preached here in this room uh many many many years ago uh where my I was a lot thinner and my hair was a lot darker um and I don’t think it was because I did such a lousy job that I’ve not been invited back since I don’t think it was that I think it was to do with the fact as you said our our Journeys went in in in different ways but it it’s been it’s been lovely to reconnect with Paul again over the last few years and there are some familiar faces here here it’s going to see Paul and Eve for example again who I knew many years ago and and I’ve also had the privilege of working a little bit with Dave forer as well I love his heart for the homeless for the poor and the most marginalized in our society and I’ve been following your Baltimore and other places on Facebook Dave so there are people I know and it’s been great to meet Katherine Angus as well in recently so I I’m really beginning to feel again just a great connection and actually I’m coming to give you today something that I’m really giving back to you something that you gave to me you may not realize that but a few weeks ago I came along here just to be part of the congregation and it was wonderful just to be with God’s people in God’s presence singing God’s Praises that’s just wonderful in itself I don’t have to get up here to preach I just love singing God’s Praises with God’s people and um it was a it was particularly special to me because um I handing over the leadership with the church in Huddersfield I then took a break so rather than be around cuz I’m staying in the church in Huddersfield for the moment and rather than be around and intimidate the new leader by being there I Disappeared for six months but at the same time I got quite ill and so I had a couple two or three months almost in total just not being there on a Sunday morning singing uh and so I was determined to get some places where I was just singing with God’s people and I was here a few weeks ago and Cath was leading us beautifully in hey how wonderful to have such talented worship leaders that you got in this church so many of them not just C but the gentleman who led us today it’s just super um but and we were singing this song and I was just so enjoying it was sing um all my life you have been faithful all my life you have been so so good with every breath that I am able and I was struggling with my breath at that time because my illness was to do with respiratory stuff so it meant to even a lot more with every breath that I am able I will sing of the goodness of God and and before I even came and just worshiped with you um I already knew because Paul had asked me and invited me to come and share with you I already knew what I was going to speak about I want to talk to you about singing we will sing of the goodness of life I want to talk about singing and the power of song and I know some of you might be thinking you know I can judge by the response there so you might be thinking singing is that it I mean do do you know the trouble I’m in I mean there’s a song right there isn’t it do you know the trouble I’m in but um but but uh you know I’m think I’m I’m really struggling Trev or or you know do you see the global problems we’re facing and you want to talk about singing yeah I do I do want to talk about singing because it’s important you read about it in scripture you know the the Bible says that God is our strength and our song he has become our Salvation when creation happened the morning stars were doing what they were singing together there was music and song at the very creation of our world Zephaniah tells us God Delights in us and sings over us he teaches us to sing the psalm we have a whole book in the Bible called The Song of Songs the Psalms are the song book of Israel I will arise and awaken the dawn with what song when we get into the New Testament um Paul when he’s encouraging people to be filled with the Holy Spirit how do we do that well one of the things he says and I’ll come back to this speak to one another with Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs making music in your heart to the Lord that’s how you get filled with the Holy Spirit James says if you’re in trouble pray if you’re happy sing he does he says that you’ll find it in the Book of James and right at the end I mean there’s a lot more I could say about singing in the Bible right at the end what are we going to be doing we’re going to be surrounding the throne and joining him with the song you are worthy you are worthy of honor and praise we’re going to be singing for all eternity folks there’s a power in song There’s Something About singing I found this to be true myself God I remember God teaching me this um some years ago when I first became a Christian and I had an old song book do you remember the whole songs and hymns of Fellowship does anybody remember those there’s a few of you who look like you might remember those you don’t please don’t be insulted by that but these songs of and I used to go around just singing it and that was our young Christian I ought to stop that I was enjoying it so much I thought surely my faith is not to be enjoyed quite so much so I put the song book down I thought I better do some serious Bible study and some real serious praying which was hard work but actually the Holy Spirit whispered said no I like it when you sing singing which strengthened and my heart and stirred my spirit he says it’s good to sing I know that at the moment some of you like me are learning again the um The Blessing um and the strength of the the sort of classical traditional spiritual disciplines or practices I know some of you are fans of John Mar coma and so on and and I’ve enjoyed all that as well and there different practices different spiritual disciplines and I’m into I’m into I really believe it’s important the discipline of silence and the discipline of solitude but we need to hold on to the discipline of singing as well actually sing I I literally now most mornings now I will I will get up and as well as praying and read my Bible I will sing YouTube is a blessing for that and I I I joined a choir briefly at the beginning of the year but then I got ill so and I found this I I I do struggle with breathing sometimes but singing helped me to breathe better there’s a spiritual message in that somewhere you know it just added breath to me um and then I as a teacher as well as being a a leader of the church for the last seven years I have um I’ve been a school teacher I teach religious studies now because I teach religious studies I get to teach all about Christian beliefs all about the Christian faith and uh when I’m with my class uh recently particularly in recent months I just start singing to them you know so I’m teaching them about the crucifixion so I start singing to them When I Survey the Wondrous Cross on which the prince of Glory died we come to the resurrection I’m sing thine be the glory risen conquering son just the other week I was singing Amazing Grace to them wonderful it’s not by the way because I’m a good singer it’s because they’re a captive audience they can’t escape sir going to go to the toilet no sit there and be quiet and listen to me no no it’s not like it’s not like at all they just think it’s it’s great sir making a fool of himself so listen I want to talk to you about singing um I think somebody else spoke to me about this again the power of song it was at a conference a few years ago and and one of the songs that we were singing continually became a bit of a refrain for the conference was bless assurance Jesus is mine oh what a foretaste of Glory Divine and you might know the chorus is this is my story this is my song praising My Savior all the day long and God said this to us and I want to say it to you this morning let your story become your song let your story become your song The Story of God’s grace in your life even and especially the hard times of your life let that story be turned into a song because your story of God’s work in your life is not just something to narrate it’s something to celebrate let your story become your song and so when I uh was thinking about this is what I want to speak on I I I turned straight away in fact I was reading the psalm at the time when Paul asked me to speak to you and I want to take you because it’s got something about song there you as you’ll see I want to take you to Psalm 100 126 126 um it’s a well-known one uh well it’s on it’s on the screen yeah interestingly I’ve got the old I’ve got an old version of it you know there’s an old New International Version don’t you as well as a new international there’s an old one and mine says when the Lord brought back the captives to Zion which is fine it’s when the Exiles were coming back to Jerusalem Zion as you know means Jerusalem and can I before we before we read on can I just say this um God is in the business right now of restoring things um I I was I was um at a conference well well a weekend away as a church a couple of weeks away a couple of weeks ago and the speaker there said these lines it just really struck for me see what you think he says he says I believe we are in the grip of a slow Awakening I believe we’re in the grip of a slow Awakening a slow Awakening it’s not something something necessarily dramatic or sudden but something is happening something is Shifting in the hearts of people people just turning to God just this gentleman you you witnessed to uh just this last week you know something is going to stir in his heart because God is moving it’s slow it’s almost imperceptible but it’s happening and God is into restoring things and um he’s into restoring things of old do you remember remember the story in Ezra chapter 3 where they’re laying the foundations of the temple and there was both singing and joy but there was also weeping and um it’s like those who were weeping it’s not that they were negative about what was happening but they look back to what had happened in the past the glory the presence the the moves of God they’ seen in the past and His glory filling the temple and they so long for more of that and God by the way is in the business of making all things new and when it says all things new it doesn’t mean he’s going to wipe the Slate clean and start again it means even those old things those things we look back to not just with Nostalgia but with a longing to to see God do again um he’s restoring those things and I about restoring old things when Paul and I met uh I beg you pardon Paul I don’t want to make that connection no no one of the things that struck me when Paul and I met again for the first time in a long time was I I and I just want to bless you all of you I know been going with God so many years and I this struck me as I talked to Paul it’s just to see his faithfulness and his persistence in pursuing God and there’s many of you like that to Paul and Eve there and I but what I heard I hope you doesn’t mind me saying this what I heard from Paul in his just just just didn’t say the words but I just heard it in his heart was a longing to see God move again as he has before and Beyond and just that whole prayer that his the the the latter Glory would be even greater than the former glory so it’s not Nostalgia it’s not an old fell looking backwards excuse me Paul it’s not it’s not that no it’s it’s it’s just no Lord we’ve seen you move we want more of that and Beyond and so when it starts in the new version when the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion and that’s what I’m praying for that God would restore something to his City let’s read on anyway when the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion we were like those who dreamed our mouths were filled with laughter and our tongue with what songs of joy and it was said among the Nations the Lord has done great things for them the Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with joy and then our prayer restore our fortunes Lord like streams in the neav those who seow with tears will reap with songs of joy and those who go out weeping carrying seed to sew will return with songs of Joy carrying sheaves with them and there are people here today there are some of you here today you’ve sown seeds with tears you’ve sewn seeds of prayers you’ve swn seeds of faithful service you’ve sewn seeds of witness just telling people about Jesus and you haven’t always seen the fruit and you’re sown with tears and God says you will reap with songs of Joy I believe that for this church I believe that for this community you will reap with songs of Joy so let me talk to you about three if you like categories of song I forgot this is a problem I forgot what time I started now but don’t worry about it if I see you falling asleep I’ll know it’s time to stop but uh we’ll go back into some do some singing I want to talk to you just briefly about three categories of song or singing um and that I want to encourage you to draw from scripture to draw from God and to incorporate into your lives and I’m not just talking about literal singing I’m going to encourage that I’m going to encourage you with the practice of singing the discipline of singing of a rising and every morning and greeting the dawn with singing just get a song old song book out put YouTube on whatever put a worship tape on and sing every day that’s a discipline but I’m not just talking about the actual literal Act of singing I want to talk to you about what is on the playlist of your life what is the soundtrack of your life when you go out and among people what’s playing what mood music do you bring with you and I want to give you one first of all I want to encourage you to bring the song of the Lord you see a few Psalms later these Exiles before they were returned to to to uh Zion it says um they asked us to sing the Lord’s song how can we sing the Lord’s song In a Strange Land how can we sing of the Lord how can we sing the Lord’s song when we’re in a place of Exile when we’re in a place of pain and oppression and difficulty and challenge my friends that’s the time you most need to sing the Lord’s song is when you’re going through the times of trouble when you’re going through the Exile sing the Lord’s song don’t let the enemy steal steal your song don’t let circumstances steal your song keep singing through the trial and the trouble these students that I was telling you about that I sing to um they I every every year I always give them a sample of different kinds of Christian worship music right back from medieval PL song up to modern contemporary Christian music and they always have a particular favor without fail it’s always a the same favorite every year and I’m sorry it’s not bethl okay the favorite they always have every year without fail is gospel music they all love gospel music every time I mean everybody loves gospel music don’t we gospel music and you know what what occurred to me as I thought about that the roots of gospel music or at least part roots of gospel music are are songs which were called spirituals sung by the African slaves in the cotton fields of the Southern States of America they were in a Strange Land literally they were under oppression and trouble yet what did they do they kept singing they sang the Lord’s song in that Strange Land and that music then went on to transform music you find the roots of gospel the roots of jazz of Blues even of rock and roll not all of it good admittedly but it shifted something in the culture why because of people in trouble in Exile in The Strange Land sang the Lord’s song the thing about the Lord’s song you see it’s a song of Grace it’s a song about the grace of God the Lord has done great things for that it’s what God has done not what we’ve done what God has done at the end of the 19th century there was a poem a famous poem written we’ve been singing the song of myself the problem is the song all about yourself will never sustain you through the hard times and the Christian commentator Mark Sayers says the soundtrack of our world right now is anx anxiety there is so much anxiety out in the world and he says the product of that sorry the the reason for that anxiety anxiety is self-obsession when a world and a people are totally focused on themselves they will get anxious are they ever good enough will they be good enough how do they compare it produces anxiety and Mark say goes on to say the the answer and the response to a soundtrack of anxiety is Grace it’s not criticism it’s contemp or or or contempt it’s Grace because rather than saying it’s it’s all about me we’re saying it’s all about him yes and what he has done and our our songs are filled with gratitude because of What the Lord Has Done you see what the world when it sees um says we were like men who dreamed and our mouths were filled with laughing our tongu with songs of Joy it doesn’t say an all the nation says you’re so worthy you know it’s all about you no it says the Lord has done great things for you do you know in funerals it used to be the case I don’t know whether it still is the two most favorite songs when it came to funerals one was amazing grace and the other was I did it my way they’re two most favorite songs in in funerals it’s probably something by Taylor Swift now but you know it used to be uh amazing Grace or I did it my way there you see the polarity there you see the difference are we going to live obsessed with self and be filled with anxiety or are we going to be obsessed with him and be filled with gratitude that should be on the playlist of our life that should be the soundtrack of our life gratitude for the grace of God you know what there’s a song in itself Amazing Grace there is when a man’s story literally became his song a man who was a slave traitor so conscious of his sin John Newton but God touched his life and he repented deeply became a Vicor uh and penned up most I think one of the most beautiful songs ever written and it resounds around the world in fact you know recently I was at my I was my mom’s care home I was sitting with my mom at a care home watching um watching the television some concert was on and it was set in somewhere like Kuwait or Saudi Arabia and then this was totally disorienting to me suddenly a load of men dressed in traditional Arab dress marched in with bag pipes I mean cognitive disciplines all like you it’s like what what Arab men with back pipes and what were they playing Amazing Grace How Sweet the Sound this song has traveled the world it’s changed lives Amazing Grace but Charles Spurgeon says this we will bring our God most Glory when we get from him much grace we live you know I don’t know about you but what I probably do know about you your life has been like mine full of twists and turns ups and downs ins and outs roundabouts you know falling forward most of the time stumbling forward and the thing I realize most of all as I look back on my life is it really is all about the grace of God it really is everything we have comes from him everything is by the grace of God so let the playlist of your life include songs of gratitude for his grace let me give you another type of song to add to your playlist and to sing oh by the way the song to sing there literally is Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved the Wretch like Me I once was lost but now I’m found was blind but now I see it was Grace that taught my heart to fear and Grace that fear removed how precious ious did that Grace appear the hour I first believed it’s just a beautiful song okay here’s another song the song of the well the song of the well do you know that story in numbers numbers 21 where they’ve been traveling through the desert and they’ve been facing kind of all kinds of battle it’s been a hard time and then they they come when you’ve been through a hard time you’ve been through a desert place you come to a place called beer oh that’s wonderful isn’t it a place called beer can we have that up numbers 21 please yeah said this is isites there they continued on to beer the well where the Lord said to Moses gather the people together and I will give them water oh disappoint no no I’m I’m only joking I will give them water then Israel sang this song spring up oh well sing about it about the well the prince has dug and so on they sang this song spring up a well sing about it you know don’t you if you’re a Christian you have the spirit of God living within you yeah and Jesus said if you drink of this water it will become like a spring welling up to eternal life we’re meant to overflow with the Holy Spirit and it’s a tragedy I think that many Christians are dying of thirst while they’re leaning on a well there’s a well a well within them there’s a well well within us I don’t want to make light of the troubles that we face but there is a well within us even in the desert places especially in the desert places and sometimes sometimes the only thing we can do in those times is to release the water from the well and so Paul in writing to the Ephesians I referred to this earlier want to say something about it again in Ephesians chapter 5 Ephesians chapter 5 he says this don’t get drunk with wine or beer which leads to Deery instead be filled with the spirit how you going do that speaking to one another I’d put a comma there personally think about how you speak to one another your tongue has powers of life or death the next point I’d put together with Psalms hymns and spiritual songs or songs from the spirit sing and make music from your heart to the Lord comma so in other words don’t speak to one another with singing I mean if you ever remember doing those times do you still do them let’s turn to one another now and sing this song and everybody doesn’t know quite know where to look you know you know espe we used to do when we ever we used to sing this is an old song Some you won’t remember it Let There Be Love shared Among Us Let There Be Love in our hearts and we were always encouraged to face one another and sing you be trying so hard to make your face look all loving Let There Be Love shared Among Us you know and I just hate to doing that so so don’t you don’t necessarily have to sing to one another I think it’s it’s speaking to one another is one thing and then singing and making music to your heart is another one but singing releases the spirit notice the next one by the way always giving thanks thanks gratitude songs of gratitude so singing releases the well within us it releases the Overflow of the spirit of life and peace within us our World Is A Wasteland that needs people who know how to dig spiritual Wells Psalm 84 those who pass through the valley of weeping then they make it a place of Springs they make it a place of Wellness how do they do it by digging them I used to think I used to read that Psalm and think if I went to a charismatic meeting and enjoyed all the worship I would just float out and there would be like little pools of water kind of appearing behind me and beside me that’s what it meant to have to fill it with Wells no no that’s just totally wrong the way the wells are there is because you bothered to dig them and one of the ways you dig them is with your tongue it’s with singing you release that spirit that water of the spirit through your singing okay and and by the way you don’t go and sing at people in fact there’s a proverb I need to read to you just in case you misunderstand this there’s a proverb Proverbs 25:20 says this like anyone like one who takes away a garment on a cold day or like vinegar poured on a wound is one who sings songs to a heavy heart so don’t go and sing at people what you do is you sing in the secret place in the hidden place you release that well within you and then when you walk into a room you’re not sucking it dry or clogging it up you’re bringing an overflow of life and peace and encouragement and blessing to those people do you see so don’t sing at people just learn to release the spirit that is within you you say to yourself why are you downcast on my soul and why so Disturbed within me put your hope in God for I will yet Praise Him My Savior and my God bless the Lord oh my soul and you release the spirit the world needs people who know how to dig Wells let me just I’m going to very very quickly mention one of and then we’ll finish and guess what we’re going to do when we finish we’re going to sing you got it Revelation I want to so we’ve got the song of the Lord by the way anybody know the lyrics of the song of the lord well they sang it in the temple when they dedicated the temple it’s simply this give thanks to the Lord for he is good and his love endures forever sing the song of the Lord or you can call it the song of Grace if you like get that in the playlist of your life song of the well get that in the playlist of your life you just know how to uh release The Well of the holy spirit so you come into a room full of life and peace but here’s a third final song the song of the Lamb the song of the Lamb let’s just read a bit from Revelation and I’ll explain what I mean and I’ll just touch on this very quickly cu cuz I want us to sing in a loud voice there was saying Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise next is is there some more or is that it thought some more then I heard every creature in heaven and on Earth and under the Earth and on the sea and all that is in them saying to him who sits on the throne and to the lamb be praise and honor and glory and power forever and ever the four living creatures said amen the elders fell down and worshiped who do we give honor and praise to it’s to the lamb you at the time of G Jesus they they used to say Caesar is Lord the one with the might and the power and the wealth he was the one that is Lord but in Christianity in the kingdom of God we say the one Jesus is Lord in other words the one who came not to be served but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many he is the one who’s worthy of honor and praise there the people often miss that they think oh well our God’s biggest Our God’s greatest well yet he is but don’t miss the point the one who is greatest is the one who served the one who is raised up is the one who emptied himself and gave of himself and it it gives us an example to follow so in singing the song of The L and this more than any others is about the your whole way of life it’s about the song of your soul it’s about the soundtrack of your life it’s not just the literal song that you sing although I’ve got a couple of suggestions for that but it is a life that is marked by Humble service and sacrifice do you know it says of Jesus in Isaiah 42 that he did not cry out in the streets he did not raise his voice it’s not the big noises it’s not the big shots that we want to hear singing We don’t want something like I’m sorry if you like this the EUR Vision Song Contest if you could if you could find something that was more about self-obsession and self- display than that I don’t know but no it’s it’s the humble the quiet the hidden you know as a as a leaders as I look back over probably about 30 years of leadership 26 of those in Huddersfield to you know the people who made the deest impacted me and I didn’t always realize this it wasn’t the people on the platform preaching or and go I’m not against us leading Us in worship praise God for those but it was often people who just quietly unobtrusively just got on Faithfully serving there’s many of you in this room I’m sure just quiet humble service we’ve had a time in the church when it’s all been about the platform and it’s all been about the projection of the big shot and there’s been a time of Reckoning for that recently as God has shaken his church it’s time I believe in fact I believe God is calling for Hunger Holiness and humility but that’s another message but let humility this the the sound of the humble and gentle in heart what’s a song that I would sing well when I Survey the Wondrous Cross on which the prince of Glory died my richest gain I count but loss and pour contempt on All My Pride or a song I learned when I first became a Christian the first conference I ever went to Spring Harvest and they sang This Is Our God the servant King who calls us now to follow him to bring our lives as a daily offering of worship to our servant King let that be let that attitude let that heart let that song of the Soul beond the soundtrack of your life so what am I saying some of you might been thinking that all the time what is he saying I know what he talking about I don’t know so let me summon up just in case this is my prayer my prayer for you is that your story will become your song that the story of God’s grace in your life will become your strength in your song it will be not a song of yourself but the song of the Lord Lord a song of Amazing Grace because only that can sustain you I pray that you will learn the song of the well that the mood music that you bring into this world will be one of the spirit of life and peace and I pray that you will sing the song of the Lamb the song of quiet humility and faithful service I said earlier we awaken the dorm with singing but there’s a song I love the words of this song let me be singing when the evening comes and it has a verse in I think when it says well when my time’s up is it I’m paraphrasing obviously it says I want to still be singing that’s my prayer for you thanks that you will keep singing and you would realize the power of singing more than you might think and most of all that these qualities of Grace of the spirit and of humble service will be on the pl list of your life whilst the um musicians are getting ready and we’re going to sing a song about singing let me pray for you is that right but I wonder could I ask you to stand is that all right thank you for listening so graciously to me let’s stand Lord I just thank you for these good good people I thank you Lord for the opportunity that I had just to experience your presence and your goodness and and your grace among them just a few short weeks ago just hidden among them and just enjoying their love for you the song raised for you and Lord I just pray for them right now I pray that they would experience something of this slow Awakening Lord that they would begin to experience even if it’s imperceptible at first the restoring work that you’re doing the Reviving work that you’re doing Lord we really do maybe this week that could be a song for you to engage again with God as you’re just on your own and I like that you know what you sing in the secret place becomes the voice in The Marketplace I like with whatever song you’re singing find again that song of the spirit where you’re just beginning to worship him in that Heavenly language and let him take you somewhere this week you might be wonderfully blessed to discover what’s contained in that song as you sing it will open doors and Realms in the spirit realm for you that you could not have accessed just on your own so Trevor thank
