We are planning a bikepacking tour from Zagreb to Thessaloniki in August. Because of the heat, we tried to plan a lot through the mountains. We don‘t have much experience in the Balkans, so any advice on our route is welcome, especially details about cities or roads not to use.
-Is Mostar worth a detour? Sarajevo is set.
-Our first day will probably end on the croatian side of its border with Bosnia – is there any problems with border patrol?
-Opinion on our route through Crna Gora and North Macedonia? And later on Greece?
We have already read about wild dogs, bears and landmines and will act accordingly. Anything else?
I plan on planning day sections cycle.travel later on.
