and I know this is the last week of holidays for some so uh excited kids going back to school I don’t know if they are or not but don’t worry we got you covered nonetheless I can tell you one thing the parents are excited that the kids are going back to school that is for sure not only that we’re also going to be talking about garlic yes it scares vampires away but also it might just cure your skin problems I’ve been seeing a lot on social media we’re going to bring a good doctor through to tell us ex exactly what this uh homegrown remedy perhaps will do for our skins so stick around if you want to find out if garlic can cure many [Music] things e e e e [Music] hello and welcome back to your feel-good breakfast show it’s a Tuesday if you’ve just woken up hello it’s good to have you with us and you came at a good time because we’re talking about garlic I know you’re scratching your head what is this about let me tell you garlic has a reputation for its powerful Health properties and now the sier food is gaining popularity in skincare routines all over the internet from Health enthusiasts to Beauty bloggers even everyone seems to be touting its benefits for skin and overall health but how much of this hype is actually true that’s what we got to figure out this is the question so we’ve brought in a specialist to answer exactly this we are joined in the studio by Dr Manaj bandin and he’s a general practitioner with a special interest in Medical Aesthetics and he’s here to shed light on the real benefits of garlic and how best to use it DOC good morning morning it’s so good to have you again how are you good morning I’m fine and thanks for having me on the show again it’s absolute pleasure to be back to the viers your Skin’s looking like it’s glowing you using garlic there on there that’s my secret well hopefully not too much of a secret cuz we’ve got to unpack this do listen every time I go on Tik Tok I’m not going to lie I’m seeing so many home remedies and garlic of course has come up quite a lot now people are popping whole cloves in their mouths chewing eating and then going a transformation has happened now we know garlic is a super food but does it actually have skin benefits all right so Garlic’s one of those vegetables that’s really stood the test of time you know is we know that it’s used in as as a medicine in as a food additive goes back some 3 to 4 thousand years and this has been well documented in text from around the world in what we now call India China Egypt so it’s it’s it’s been around it’s really stood the test of time uh whether it you know the the belief that it is able to water a vampire is is outside of my scope of expertise so I’m going to venture away from that but I think to understand all the hype it’s very important to understand what is it the specific properties about garlic that seems to bestow all of these miraculous uh abilities so we know from analyzing the the actual garlic it’s it’s it’s quite a potent antioxidant it’s got um antioxidants such as Vitamin C selenium something called allisin this is the thing that gives it its particular smell and taste and these are quite potent antioxidants and when ingested in an active form in in in in in the raw garlic it does have a protective uh feature on the on the body through a cell at a cellular level so it does protect the cells from regenerating and dying off so it does have a bit of an anti-aging effect right theoretically we know it is quite a potent anti-inflammatory so any disease that has an inflammation as its base there could be some benefits we know it’s a it’s a natural antimicr so it can act as an antibiotic an antiviral anti- you know something that’s going to kill worms it’s very mildly so so in whatever I’m saying I think it’s very important to understand that there’s very sparse evidence uh and it’s not meant to substitute medication we also know that that it it it it uh it it does affect certain hormonal systems in in in in the body so it can have certain beneficial effects there and um you know it’s it it really it really does have have numerous uh numerous benefits which there’s now scientific research to to back certain of these claims up all right oh my gosh a lot of people I think started flaring their ears when they heard certain properties that g could have I’m trying to find out when it comes to these effects well some of these potential effects does the way we ingest garlic make a difference in terms of whether it’s crushed whether we have whole cloves whether we’re cooking with it does that change the makeup and subsequently the effect it has on us yes apparently it does and and I think this applies to just about any of the natural food remedies or or supplements so what we found is that the best form to to consume your garlic is in its raw form uh raw form where it’s crushed or or or chopped finely chopped uh what this does is that it then liberates or it allows certain of the chemicals in in within the within the garlic to to to to become active uh it it needs a a bit of time and it needs exposure to air to become active we also know that if you add a little bit of like a carryer oil something like olive oil or or coconut oil to it it will further enhance the absorption of some of the active ingredients when you ingest it so the best form is to actually eat it in its raw form as as you said earlier if you cannot tolerate the obviously the strong smell and taste then then the next best is to actually add it to your food so you can cook with it but if you do this please make sure you add added towards the end of the cooking process what this does is that it preserves the active ingredients and prevents them from being damaged with the heat we also know that there’s a host of of uh supplements available processed supplements in the forms of tablets capsules and powders Etc I’m I’m a little dubious about about this simply because this sect is very poorly regulated so you don’t really know what it is that you’re actually getting in these products they cost an arm and leg often and uh if you do Venture down this part my strong suggestion would be to rather support a wellestablished brand that’s shown cons consistency with regards to its quality and and and being able to deliver a product regularly yeah well doc I think many people are sitting there whether it’s one pimple or a couple pimples on their face and they going okay let’s get to the bottom of this though can it actually cure my skin or make me look radiant okay I think what you’ve got to understand is as with any of the natural remedies there’s numerous limitations so it’s certainly not at this stage going to be a substitute for your Orthodox or or medical interventions of skin condition such as acne so but to understand how it can benefit a condition like acne it’s important to again understand what acne is firstly and then to understand how this can manage that that component so we know that acne has got different components firstly it’s a hormonal issue where there is excessive seum production this is the oily substance that coats our our face it is essential it’s actually a protector feature but due to hormonal stimulation there’s excessive seum production secondly the glands that produces the seum tends to get blocked because of the excessive production of this thirdly when it gets blocked you get inflammation setting up within this uh within this gland and and the duct this is where you get that sore red pimple forming um then we know we’ve got bacteria that normally lives on our skin and then these bacteria get into this now blocked uh gland and causes infection this is where you get the yellow pimples that that really looks un quite unsightly so as I’ve told you earlier garlic itself has got certain properties which seem to be able to counteract quite a few of these these mechanisms we know it’s it’s mildly antibotic so it can control the bacteria count on your skin it is anti-inflammatory so it can control inflammation to a certain extent the fact that it is quite a potent antioxidant means when that when you actually do develop a pumple the damaging effects of that may not be as severe given that you’ve got this protective antioxidant built in there there’s also very early evidence that suggest that garlic itself may have a direct inhibitory effect on the production of of of the seum but this is very early studies and and certainly not anything extensive so it certainly can positively affect the outcome or the management of mild AC me H well doc thank you so much already just in such a short while getting so educated on debunking some myths and bringing and shedding some light on the situation we’re going to carry on with this conversation manzi so if you have any questions any concerns or maybe you have your own little remedies that might apply to something natural you use to uh deal with your skin issues then come through of course and use the number 06 48863 but for now though I think it’s time to salute uh and and and keep this theme of Health right now because uh we’re going to be saluting the remarkable individuals leading the charge in healthcare by shining a spotlight on the pharmacy of the week and this week we’re talking about Nisa Central Pharmacy how exciting this tribute is proudly brought to you by Adcock Ingram OTC they are of course the sponsors of Brave our pharmacies are on the front line of Health Care this is Pharmacy of the week the work we do as a pharmacist the Brave campaign is an excellent initiative by a company like atck Ingram giving back direct to the community to create opportunities and make superstars of our community and most important of it all is to improve the lives of all South Africans Pharmacy of the week proudly brought to you by Adcock Ingram OTC sponsors of Brave Kenza Paris proudly brought to you by atock Ingram OTC sponsors of Brave and we’d like to take this opportunity once again to thank all pharmacists making a difference in their communities what did they say turning them into superheroes let us just say that we appreciate you yeah we absolutely do and you to zanzi and that’s why we’re going to remind you to not go anywhere I still need you to come through and assist me with my look of the day it is a Tuesday and I was asking you to choose between option number one and number two and cometh the hour cometh hopefully an answer to this myth and this question that I have for you so hopefully we’re going to look good this morning and warm me up with that brilliant look thank you I love it we can be warm together R make sure you choose a good one not only that we’re going to continue the conversation with our good dog all around home remedies and garlic It’s seems to be the theme and the word of today if you still want to know more stick around because we’ll chat about that after this drained dehydrated you have lost more than just fluid recover faster add rehydrate ess’s number one oral electrolyte mixture e e e e it’s my feel good breakfast show welcome back to your Feelgood breakfast show it is espresso on S3 and we’ve got you sorted out when it comes to talking about garlic and whether or not it has an impact on our skin we’re continuing our discussion with Dr Manaj Bagan de a general practitioner with a special interest in Medical Aesthetics and this time to explore the potential downside or even alternatives to using garlic for skin Health do there is a question that’s been pressing me that I’ve got to ask we spoke about ingesting garlic can you use it topically though okay so here I would advise Extreme Caution garlic can be quite irritant and it can induce an allergy especially especially topically so there are some articles that suggest it can be used topically what we call as a spot treatment but please if you are doing it I would suggest you first consult with your medical pra practitioner who can do a a an allergy test a spot test we call it and if you are going to use it make sure it’s diluted with something like a to car oil coconut oil Etc so that it is not as irritant as it can be having said that you know there isn’t sufficient evidence to Warrant its use in in in this sort of format it’s still best to actually ingest it in its raw in its raw format you’re still going to get the benefits oh I love that um we hope that you carry a toothbrush with you when you do ingest it as well but it does have some really great benefits yes I wanted to speak about um if you do face issues with garlic you’ve ingested and now you’ve experienced some adverse effects what do you do who do you call where do you go okay so as with any any allergic response it’s and and it depends on how severe the response is it’s advisable to present yourself to your medical practitioner as soon as possible if not urgently if it is an acute an what we call an anaphylactic a severe reaction if that is the case then please go to your emergency emergency room or or or casualty as soon as possible there are medications we can give to you that will Halt and reverse this process beautiful other home remedies doc I know personally that sometimes I go for like bore or turmeric and I put it on my skin does it make me yellow yes do I think it’s worth it absolutely are there any other home remedies that you could perhaps recommend oh there’s actually a myriad of them really but I think nothing nothing precludes the fact that you should first and foremost take care of your skin and this means gentle cleansing regularly at least twice a day exfoliating two or three times away in a gentle Manner and then there’s a whole host of alternative remedies is tea tree oil is one of the the most documented again diluted it has similar properties to what we discussed garlic is having your your your turmeric for the for the again antioxidant properties of the skin aloe vera has a calming effect on the skin again quite potent antioxidants etc etc uh but like I said I think precludes taking good care of your skin eating properly making sure you’re properly hydrated the skin when it’s properly hydrated becomes far more of an effective barrier which is what it’s meant to be and obviously things like sleep remember our bodies heals itself when we sleeping so 7 to 8 hours of sleep will allow your skin itself to also heal and regenerate itself so all of these things are are quite important in the overall management of your of your skin conditions yeah I love that I wish I could get seven to eight hours a day Dar that is the goal that is what we’re aiming for but I love that you touched on a holistic approach to taking care of yourself it’s the exercise it’s the eating well it’s the of course taking care of your skin every single day would you recommend that somebody uses both their skin care as well as Home Care in combination with one another almost oh absolutely and this is where I would suggest you know you consult with a with an experienced uh medical practitioner who’s well versed in skin care uh he or she will be able to offer you not just the medical or natural remedies but also skin care routines and procedures that’s specifically suited to your skin and skin type remember we have varying U types of skin so not it’s not a question of one size fits all especially when it comes to skincare products well that is such an insightful conversation doc I know that I definitely took some notes there cuz sometimes I rely on the one more than the other but I love the combination of both to strike an absolute balance now speaking about balance we’ve definitely balanced an outfit out and with your help of course we’ve come to a conclusion with Riley’s outfit what did you go for well let’s find out yeah we are zany yes please earlier I obviously asked you to help me choose between two winter favorite foots we had two options coming at you number one was the classic straight leg denim a flannel with some color and the ultimate roll neck with a bomber jacket or we had option to which was a wind and water resistant jacket was the chunky knit chocol chinos and the Beloved South African ankle boot but uh you guys came through of course I’m going to read some of these comments that resulted in me donning this incredible look right now and let me tell you I’m feeling extra warm extra special and extra good on this Tuesday and that’s thanks to you but let’s see how this came to be zanzi we had don’t know what do you think of this as a smart casual look bro I think this could work I definitely feel smart but I definitely also feel casual at the same time so definitely winning here um we’ve got alary Prince saying very tricky but option one I agree with you both of these options today were winners and it was real tough to decide but Lao Lao says option one is the best and hash Tuesday sty by Willies espresso show Lao coming through Leo Peterson also says option one please and then K gunden says good morning team definitely option one for I’ll have a fabulous day guys Mar and also to school Journey Cheers [Music] Cheers e e e [Music] it’s welcome back to your feel-good breakfast show we’re going to definitely keep the inspiration going especially when it comes to your young ones now with a midyear rest done and dusted our little ones of course new school term is right around the corner I don’t know parents are excited about this but you have to get prepared for it that’s one thing and today we’ve got War by a Chantel adonus in the building as well as technologist Kathy mackerel they here to to prepare them for the upcoming months of learning also developing and of course most importantly growing cuz the kids grow so incredibly quickly welcome ladies thank you so much for being here hi Carissa thanks for having us of course Shel maybe I could start with you to talk about where we begin when it comes to back to school essential so the kids can basically take on the next adventure stressfree and parents also know exactly what they’re getting themselves into yes um absolutely so as you know at wwz we have all your your bases covered so we’ve got all of the um all of your school clothes for girls and boys we’ve got some sports we we’ve got ballet so all of those needs will be met if you come into wws I love that maybe we could get our models through so you could talk through some of the things that we’ve got going um the school uniform oh my gosh it’s a curly hair for me okay so here we have it I love this one got the Blazers going the classic gray skirts what else do we have yes so we’ve got the lovely um rain coats and they are they’ve got some um reflectors as well for safety so if you can turn around sweetheart just to show the reflectors and we’ve got it’s lined with polar fleece so they’re going to keep nice and snug and it’s also water repellent okay and then in terms of our um School jerseys we’ve got them in Black Navy and gray um with our long sleeve shirts and school skirts our our shoes are reinforced they’ve got reinforced CS so they don’t actually open up in the front oh yes that’s important um yeah and then just on the boys uh side we’ve got the Blazers we’ve got um a very easy eye easy wearing pants and of course it’s also um stain resistant importantly um for the shoes again I mean those are super comfy shoes we we really work on the Comfort part of our foot whe so they can actually be easy throughout of the throughout the day and do whatever little boys do yes which is just catch up to Mischief every single day I know I love it also love that the skirt’s a bit longer so that can also grow into it as she goes right a look at them go man it is so adorable so these are the back to school Essentials that we need to have okay awesome well Kathy let’s get into conversation with you you know ww definitely believes in quality we know this to be sure as well as Innovation and sustainability I wonder how you marry that all together with Essentials like the back to school um Range that you have very important that we actually marry all of that together and we do this in part parnership with our suppliers so it’s an absolute partnership that we have with our suppliers and the most important thing when it comes to Quality is that all our Fabrics are tested now they all tested through independent uh Laboratories um they’re third party Laboratories and the most important test that we do they they divided into two different categories the one is color the one is performance and just to highlight two of the the color um test that we do well two of the most important is going to be the wonderful fading because we know that the South African is pretty harsh so whether the child is wearing the item or mama has left it on the line the whole day accidentally uh we don’t want those colors to fade and then the other one is going to be the cross staining so when you’re wearing a Navy Blazer of a white shirt when the child takes the Navy blazer off you don’t want that white shirt looking Navy okay so very important that the color doesn’t actually run from one item into the next when it comes to the performance of fabrics um some of the test that we look at is going to be shrinkage we certainly don’t want our items over over shrinking length as also in width the other one is abrasion resistance and what that actually means is that there’s wear and tear of an item so the fabric itself or the fabric against another fabric those would be areas such as the elbows the inner thigh areas or then also the underarm areas where there’s a lot of friction happening the other one is pilling I’m sure we’ve all had the experience of this little fluffy balls on the surface of the Fabrics which we don’t like we might take a blade or a piece of silit to get rid of them um and then when it comes to our minimum construction guidelines that we give to suppliers we refer to that as our wo guard rails very important that our suppliers are on board with that to produce garments of uh superior quality with regards to our trims um we ensure that our suppliers uh use the trims that we get from our wo supplied uh wo was approved trim suppliers when it then comes to Innovation just a couple of call outs on that we’ve got our sposed socks which have got an antibacterial finish on them for Everlasting freshness our opaque tight has got a beautiful body sensor technology in it which keeps the body warm during winter cool during summer and an added cotton gusset for just that extra Comfort when it comes to shirts and also to the pants CH is allu to as well we want to make it easy for Mom we want to make it easy Cas so minimum ining because I think most moms don’t like ining and also the stain resist on the pants and on our skirts so whether it be a grass stain whether it be a food stain that easily comes out um with regards to our rain coats um very important when it comes to kids being visible when the light is very low so reflective strips go onto those inside our rain one of our rain jackets it’s waterproof it’s windproof um the seams are bonded with a polyer strip which absolutely seals the seam so no no water can come in and when Chantel takes you through the range just now we’ve got our little lined uh jacket which has got a moisture management uh talling lining in it so basically that absorbs perspiration uh then when it comes to sustainability two of the big callil outs there is going to be our sustainable cotton now what that refers to is when cotton is grown we want to reduce the amount of pesticides and insecticides used in that very important as well as the management of the soil as well as the management of then the water that is used and also very important that we ensure that the workers who are actually working in these fields taken care of as well very important and then last but not least is our FC Visos um that basically alludes to the forests that are grown um that they are used specifically only for the wood pulp because viscosity is made of wood pulp um and that they’re not using forests which might be leading towards Extinction or then ancient forests right so it really is important that we know that the trees are grow as only for that purpose and I love that it’s the details that make the difference well let’s end off uh looking at the uh the last look at the after school activities perhaps if we can quickly just run through these to make sure that we also sorted with those activities hello okay hello Okay so we’ve got heish here and he’s showing you what you could wear to your school sport activities including you know physical training and physical education so we’ve got the little golfer he’s wearing the compression top and we’ve got the little bottom to show you as well mean that is super cool you could use that for rugby soccer you know to keep the muscles all in check and then we’ve got the little pey shorts we’ve got the long knee high socks and those are the anti bacterial finishes as well and then we’ve got walkmates that is a safe place for your feet to land in the walkmate um and then we’ve got this beautiful little ballerina and she’s wearing the little thank you darling um the ballet dress she’s got the little um ballet top little wrap top and that just to keep you warm while doing the little the you know being the ballerina of your dreams and then the little oegs and ballet shoes as well beautiful we’re extending our little ballet shoe range so watch the space and even the little bag cute well you guys look absolutely adorable look at her girl what a ballerina and thank you so much for joining us kids and as well as to Kathy and shintel thank you for being here and taking us through all this goodness listen back to school is happening quicker than we can think but we’re going to make the session simple with a range of beautiful pieces as well as practical essentials from w and remember everything is available in store online and even on the app to get to [Music] [Music] shopping oh well officially I think the parents can rest easy knowing that they are sorted especially since the kids are almost on their way back to school but we’re going to head back to the kitchen right now and obviously it’s only Tuesday but if you’re in the need of a Swift and delightful pickme up well look no further than our quick and easy terasu recipe now this dessert promises to elevate your day with its layers of creamy goodness and hints of coffee and I think this is perfect for satisfying your sweet Cravings without the hassle and I know when it comes to dishes like this it can be very intimidating so Chris get in here and let’s showan how easy this one is you a fan of terisu I like terisu not every day cuz it does have the caffeine and we don’t want to be buzzing but when I crave it oh my goodness I want it quick and I want it now you all right so I I think we’ve got the answer for you and this literally is probably the quickest way I think we can make this I officially can’t make it the other way yet because it’s too complex for me so hopefully we can get this right and let me show you just how easy this is right so you’re going to be on the sort of uh let’s call it like the the cream layering piping duty but before we get into that I want to start getting my biscuit and my whole like coffee Vibe going right so this is how easy it is we’ve got uh hot water over here and then we’ve got like a coffee lure that we’re going to add to it and then I’ve got a little bit of a ingredient where is it we’ll find it we’ll find it I think it’s in uh well I hid it away because I didn’t it is I oh there it is I didn’t want anyone to steal this because it’s it’s become such a precious commodity but essentially we’re going to be using some Jacobs Ina so I’m going to be putting about 2 tablespoons into this hot water and you’re all looking at me and wondering why on Earth is he doing this is he just having a coffee so he can enjoy while we make this recipe no it gets better than that I’m zi so adding The Lure into that as well and then just stir that up and as always as you can see even without super boiling water and just hot water it really combines and mixes so easily just good like that look like a drink you could could have right now you could you literally could and I mean just adding the L to this you can smell that sort of creaminess coming through already and with Jacobs as it’s peering I think this is perfect but that pretty much finishes that step and what I’m going to do from this point onwards is simply dip my biscuits into this little mix over here let me actually just do that right now and show you how so we don’t soak them right we’re not soaking it if if you’re going to soak it it’s going to become too soggy and then you’re going to be like just picking up like drip and drag which we don’t want so pop that in and it’ll quick dip like that booyah and then what I do is who you see I I lift it Ino long I lift it Ino long just like you said you want to break it in half like that and then you pop it into your mug now I’m going to keep doing this while we move over to your station which is pretty much getting all this good stuff together you’ve got cream cream cheese icing sugar and vanilla aange mix that all together yeah everything goes in there and then you want to give it like quite a good mix now for the sake of time this does take a bit of a while it doesn’t just happen cuz you got a whisk at the needs to be there and this is probably the longest part of this entire recipe is mixing this part together um once you’ve done that successfully though you simply want to get it into something like a Piping Bag right which we’ve fast forwarded into the future and done mag TV oh my gosh this smells amazing too I know and think about all these sort of like cream Sensations we’re talking about right now how good it’s going to come together when we put it in this bath of goodness that we creating on the outside of year so how’s it looking on your side looks like we pretty good well this looks really good I think I’m ready to pipe when you have got your biscuits going yeah I’m just going to add one one more half into this I’m trying to keep that sort of rustic look going I always use it as my cover when things don’t look perfect but uh you can grab the Piping Bag I’m going to just pop the last pieces into this and then you can get your pipe on really and like find the gaps if you can um let me just move this out the way so we can make this look a little bit I find gaps and I just squeeze it in find gaps squeeze is there a way to do this it really is your creativity that needs to come through right now we going to continue with the rtic feel yeah and this is a cool thing so we were talking about the fact that this is a meal that is grateful I a pickme up right do you know what terisu actually means no I don’t in Italian it means pick me up I like that I think it’s the pick me up with a delicious teramis yeah the perfect name the perfect occasion is as you can see I’ve never ever ever seen a terasu come together this quickly and like we promised him zanzi you can make this at home you can find the recipe at espressos show.com andum dum dum my piping skill I’m pretty impressed actually nicely done I think you can get creative again yeah maybe if you have like a spare biscuit you can just kind of use that too you know just I think just make a little and then we’ve got some cocoa just sprinkle that make it look like uh TV ready B oh nicely done thank you and voila there go oh my gosh that looks restaurant ready I think we should Cho ter we should have made a third one because I think the only person that we’re leaving out right now is z but she’s standing by with some goodness of her own so cheers to that cheers to heing this recipe at expresso.com and S what you got for us when it comes to another kind of dessert oh my goodness R my mouth is afro Fusion talent in South Africa this music scene that sometimes goes a little bit under the radar honey it is coming to the Forefront and it is a new and first original South African singer format show right here on Sac everybody please welcome saki AKA Lambo hello gorgeous girl how are you I’m great I’m sure you are congratulations thank you I am so happy for you when I heard that you going to be actually the person behind this show along with your co-host I was like you’re the perfect one because on Metro FM you’ve already been doing exactly that 100% Talent yeah 100% so myabe tell us what makes actually unique and just you know really different to everything else I think because if you if you look at the world right and you look at um what the world is consuming the world is consuming South African music We Are the reference we are the transitors when it comes to music that’s right so uh basically say it is that let’s go back to who we actually are so let’s let’s what what do people in the Eastern Cape listen to how do they make music what did it sound like back in the days in in Kaden what did it sound like in liopo what did it sound like in balanga WoW let’s try revamp that and make it into a a new sound so a cocktail of old traditional folk sounds mixing them up together to develop a new sound which is called USI yeah so it’s like a little bit of like you know the likes of masandi 100% oh my so if you if you if you think about Zulu who’s one of our Jud judges another example sh they borrow from old sounds and make a new sound so that new sound is a genre called oh wow I love that and the is it because global global Shing yeah oh my goodness okay listen I think that first and foremost you guys you didn’t you know spare any budget or anything because you guys have superstars from to show myy I’m obsessed and I feel like you guys were the right people to do this because of course you’re going on the road and you’ve already started and you’re heading to banga this weekend speak to us about the auditions how they been going have people been showing on and showing off sure it’s been insane joh we’ve we’ve done Johannesburg Johannesburg is a represent of South Africa so obviously all the cultures were there just came back from the Eastern cap it was my first time there place called was so delicious yes of course it was and of course the talent I mean if you think about the superstars we’ve got in South Africa most of them are actually from the Eastern Cape so there was incredible Talent there not you but yeah the musicians the artists sorry it’s fine thank you Bo this is why you’re on the show you’re honest it’s okay but yes you saw incredible Talent yes great talent young people teens people who are 17 18 19 coming through to the show to try their luck people are 50 something 60 something coming through to try the luck the fashion is also insane um claa traditional attire it’s just beautiful it is it is just so beautiful so it was it was incredible to be in we’re going TOA next weekend I love it and also of course I feel like this is such a great show because nobody’s out of the age range everyone’s welcome that’s beauti I can also try but you see this is the thing I was going to say because I want to know about these prizes and I want to win but we’re going to get to that I want to ask you when it comes to the music scene how do you think that is going to affect it and honestly maybe even change it a little bit is going to get young people back into who they are which is it’s going to remind you of where you come from when you think about a Sunday or Saturday afternoon at home when you were 12 years old what it sounded like is what young people are going to give young people masandi is so popular on Tik Tok so popular and many other sounds so we’re going to get back to who we are I love that and you know who I am I am a winner so let’s talk there are prizes to be won for what can people like me are going to enter and we’ll win what can we win exactly it’s incredible so artist I always say artists don’t need advice they need money come on and to be trained and developed so 500,000 RS for the first winner yeah a bar that’s incredible yes so do you want to maybe leave this and and L I keep telling you exp I might have to resign from this day and then 300,000 for the second winner and 200,000 for the for for the for the third winner so we’re all winning here we all winning I love this you know I might take first second and third become a millionaire one time yeah and a record label deal and of course being trained going through a boot camp which is the most important the knowledge that you get from music is knowledge that nobody can give you and if can give you that through a boot camp you’re good to go you’re able to have a a long sustainable um career in the music industry which is very difficult to do 100% and who better than the people who have shown us that they can do it 100% I love that okay so bab tell us when do we tune in and why do you think we should tune in as South Africans tune in this particular Sunday this coming Sunday on the 7th of July yes at 6:00 p.m. till 7 for an hour tune in for the fun moments tune in for the fashion tune in for the soul South Africans are so Soulful uh music is in US it lives through us this is how we communicate how we feel how we love how we want to be treated everything so tune in for all of that it’s going to be exciting yeah oh my goodness I’m so proud of you let’s have an Oprah moment I’m so proud of you and for real I love you from the work that you do on Metro FM to now Sac 1 the work you’ve been doing on Sac 2 girl you’re all over the sac she runs it essentially not you not you SCE not you but you and Mand magaza are 100% the right people to do this and I think it’s going to be so incredible to watch you go on this journey well done we appreciate you her name is AKA and you can catch her on USI on Sac 1 every Sunday my friend from this Sunday 7 July 6:00 p.m. do the right thing and tune in as you heard it’s going to be a beautiful Journey but more than anything else it’s South Africans coming together to once again celebrate the talent that we have from now I do believe that we still have a lot to do now until 9:00 a.m. so let’s get into it how do you cure common dendra we’re going to be answering that question right here on your foga breakfast show because we always touch on everything right and then we’re getting fit for the month of July and it is Carissa showing us how we can do that with that experience with Crossfit it’s all coming up right here on your field good breakfast show make sure you don’t go anywhere there are stories of Believers and we’re inspired by them all we invite you to write your story with us your story matters Absa e e e it’s my feel good with show welcome back to your feel-good breakfast show this morning is all about information that you need and here’s a fact for you did you know that 50% of the population are affected by dandruff that’s half of you yes I’m talking to you well winter can often trigger dandruff and irritable skin issues which can lead to flare ups of course and joining us right now on the couch is Dr Lauren Knight she’s here to help us understand some of the causes treatments and also how to avoid dandruff and irritable skin conditions especially during winter doc thank you so much for joining us today thank you of course well it is winter it gets colder things change I feel like we have different bodies in summer winter and the transitional season so when it comes to our hair when it comes to our scalp in particular does winter affect us in any way 100% and exactly like you say our body really is different but maybe not necessarily our body but to remember that our skin really is the interface between ourselves and the environment and as such it really is subject to these changes that we see the change in temperature the change in humidity so not necessarily your body changing but maybe the experience of the environment changing so as the temperature and the humidity decreases we find that we’ve got an increased what we call transepidermal water lust so water lust from the inside of our cells to the outside of the body which makes our cells naturally drier so we all kind of become a bit drier in the winter months and obviously if you’re suffering with something with a barrier impairment like eczema dandr cic dermatitis that then is heightened in your winter months and you’re more likely to Fe experience flares well doc I want to touch on two of the things you said and we spoke about this off air let’s see if I can test myself cic dermatitis yes versus dandruff right what are the two and how do we sort of distinguish if we have the one or the other so I mean they essentially going to be presenting in the same way the sculp has very limited ways it can present so you’re going to have dryness flaking a bit of sensitivity or irritation and it’s important to remember that dandruff and searc dermatitis are on a spectrum so dandruff is your kind of uninflamed potential maintenance or or Baseline level whereas when it becomes inflamed we going to call it cic dermatitis so actually more important to distinguish between do you just have a dry flaking scalp or do you fall into the dander of cic dermatitis Spectrum so your dry flaking scalp is just a scalp type if you will like Skin So potentially with age your scalp becomes a bit more dry in Winter you might have a drier scalp if you’re using products that are stripping your oils you might have a dry saky scalp typically smaller whiter scales no inflammation your dandr searc dermatitis Spectrum is going to be where you’re going to have an inre production of oil and overgrowth of yeast called malesia and this is basically a chronic form of eczema that occurs in our areas where there’s a lot of sebaceous glands so our seic areas that’s where the name is coming from so your scalp your mid face the central chest under your arms and basically what’s happening there’s an increased production of oil the overgrowth of this yeast that then increases your rate of cell turn over making these thicker bits in your scalp that then flake off so your normal spectrum is d when your yeast becomes active it cleaves the little fatty acids in your oil from your sebum your sebaceous gland so in your sebum and then that drives the inflammation so then you might have flaking with some athema pain sensitivity on your scalp as well shees well D I definitely want to talk about how we can remedy all of these different things but I wonder in a country like South Africa where we’ve got all different Hues all different kinds of people we are rainbow Nation for a reason does it present differently depending on maybe your skin color even yeah I think I mean your stat you said earli was important 50% and that’s you know race irrespective so 50% of people suffer with dandr searc dermatitis um and it doesn’t mean that one race is more susceptible to the other it just sometimes presents differently so in our fair skin populations we generally see a bit more athema so redness scaling was in now darker skins that actually might present with lighter patches on the scalp on the hairline I think darker skins we sometimes battle more obviously because we more it’s it’s more visible your CC dermatitis is more apparent if your hair is shorter if you’re wearing hairstyles where we you know we’re exposing your sculp sculp yes exactly and it is protective season so this is the time uh well let’s talk about overthe counter treatments are there shampoos perhaps or treatments that we could use please bring us the good news Duc so there is a lot of things you can use and there’s a lot of General things that you want to be doing anyway so when we think about what’s happening on the scalp we first want to use something to obviously lift off that scale so we could talk about a cartic and that’s going to be ingredients like salicylic acid lactic acid um your colar shampoos which could be anti-inflammatory and you’re just trying to lift off that scale so we’re not seeing it on our clothes on our colors and then your second component is you want to decrease the inflammation so you really want to go to the core and address that little yeast your meses and that’s where you could be using ingredients like selenium sulfide um ketoconazol zinc pione and even again your colar shampoo so useful ingredients and you might find that you actually using them because remember we said that it’s chronic with these periods of flares you might actually be using them a bit more intensively when you’re flaring and as a maintenance in your in between times but it’s really important that you’re using them and you’re making sure you’re rinsing your hair properly removing them and if you are flaring to realize that change from a just kind of normal dandr bit of a flake to an intense more active cic dermatitis and that you bump up your treatments because a shampoo is a really good way of maintaining and treating your dandruff right and when you talk about best practice I know you’ve touched on a few right now but how can we sort of maintain a healthy scalp from a dayto day perfect so I think you want to look I mean it’s it’s it’s very diffic it’s often the skin is lovely because it’s so easy to have access to and treat but our sculp sometimes is a bit difficult so you really want to start at your Basics you want to look after your scalp so make sure you’re not using products that are stripping your barrier so avoid products that contain alcohol if you’re using gel hairspray different mouses you want to make sure you’re washing them off properly and that’s again if you’re using your medicated shampoos to wash them off properly you’re going to protect your hair against the elements so in Winter wear a hat wear a beanie keep your scalp warm people often find that their Sac dermatitis or dander flares when they sweat when they JY and that’s because as you sweat your scalp cools flares up again so make sure after you exercise you’re washing it off there’s a small proportion of people that speak about diets and um a high fruit diet will somehow affects your sebaceous glands anecdotal evidence so not something we widely practice so just general practices I think of looking after your hair making sure that you recognize the symptoms or the signs that you are flaring and get on top of it quicker rather than later love that thank you so much Dr Lauren really appreciate you joining us so much good information that I’m hoping you’ve taken in for yourself on this Tuesday morning well salson is a medicated shampoo like we’ve mentioned which effectively treats dandruff itchy scalp and irritable skin conditions such as pis as well as ringworm and it is the only 2.5% selenium sulfide shampoo available in South Africa it reduces itching and flaking as well as irritation and redness of the scalp and skin and here’s some good news for you you do stand a chance to win a salsa and hair hamper as well as a tangle teaser I love my tangle teaser Man simply replied to the competition post on the expresso social media pages and tell us how you manage dandr flare apps during seasonal changes remember to use that hasht flak free as well as salson South Africa now the competition does close on the 20th of July and all those teas icies are available of course on espressos show.com doc thank you so much I was here taking notes mentally physically whatever it is we want to have healthy body and healthy sculps as well don’t we thank you for having me I’m loving this health Tuesday absolutely great conversation there and we’re going to keep that conversation going right now and that’s the conversation of health because we’re going to be diving into the world of CrossFit with Carissa Yes you heard correctly she’s not only pushing her limits in the gym but also making sure she’s fu with a nourishing former Brown meal so let’s find out how she did in this very intense workout woo there is nothing like starting your morning off with a bit of rigorous movement and today I’m challenging myself to do something that I’ve never done before but before we head on out I’ve got to whip up something nutritious and delicious it is a Cajun Chicken Pasta which is a bit of help from Farmer Brown Farmer Brown’s nourish range covers all the bases and today I am so excited to try out the sourdough coated chicken strips we’ve got our oil heating up really nicely we’re going to go straight in with our red onion our red pepper is up next and this is going to add some sweetness to the dish and now for the main event we’re going in with our cajun spice which is going to add a little a little bit of heat ooh it’s already starting to smell so good in the kitchen we’re going to go up with some oomph by adding in cream cheese to the dish and that’s going to also contribute to the richness oh it’s smelling so fragrant you can smell the sweetness as well as the savoriness of the Cajun spice and the final s tip is to add our roasted tomatoes aasian chicken pasta is looking so good to eat so let’s dish it up to go the Farmer Brown chicken strips are so delicious I could really just eat them on their own but I love that you could also incorporate them into meals and now that we’re all done all that’s left to do is close on up and head on out today I’m out at Cape CrossFit cuz I think they know a thing or two about staying motivated and I want you to come along with me as we find out what kind of workout they’ve got planned for today okay thank you let’s do this going to be fun I hope i’ say the most challenging part was definitely the pull-ups on the Rings I’ve got zero upper body strength so that definitely was a big challenge for me to even get my body up you know I think I had to trust myself a little bit and I got through I would say four quite strongly and the rest I had to be encouraged by the team to keep on going CrossFit is so great for your overall health and well-being because it really targets specific areas while it is full body workout they do certain things that you’re like oh my shoulder I’ve never used it like that before not only that I really love that it’s a team effort you’re not out there on a tread mold just trying to encourage yourself but everybody’s cheering on really helps you to push just that little bit further thank you guys so much for such a fantastic workout I feel challenged I feel good I feel refreshed and I think you’re going to benefit from these it’s the farmer Browns narish range it’s delicious ious but it’s also nutritious so try these at home and these are of course better shared so who better to share it with than you guys amazing thank you so much after an exhilarating workout it’s not only time for me to catch my breath but also enjoy this Cajun Chicken Pasta that I’ve prepared and this right here is going to keep me going throughout the race of the day it is so important to refuel your body after such an intense workout and a nourishing meal has to be on top of the list you’ve got to get your protein in and also just that satiation so whatever you’ve lost during the workout you kind of have to fall back on the inside so that you feel like it was worth it and everything feels in Balance again I’ve had such an incredible time today at Cape CrossFit and pair that with a nourishing and wholesome meal and I feel ready to take on the rest of the day the hash Farmer Brown way what was that shoulder Shug I’m so proud of you though you thank you I appreciate all of the hype I can get and you deserve it cuz crossfit’s very overwhelming it can be very intimidating those chicks in CrossFit are so strong so they inspire me even so what you did there I’m well impressed thank you so much it was challenging it was something I’ve never touched on before I definitely want to be back again so Sasha I might see you but it was def def itely something out of my comfort zone but that’s the point isn’t it it is the point indeed but we’re not going to keep you out of your comfort zone you can come right back to your space of comfort right here on your Feelgood breakfast show and not just here in Cape toown but JY too what’s [Music] happening can I just say Carissa I am so proud of you you are actually leading us I think I need to go also do a little bit of CrossFit very soon n however we did say that we’ve got such a beautiful performer this morning someone that I am so excited for you to meet in case you don’t already know her because she is already doing the most it is the French amapa performer Kazi gorgeous at that and you can trust me we’re going to have a beautiful feel good morning all in the name of her and her music then also coming up we have coffee chats where we’re discussing challenges and triumphs it’s a whole balance you see what we’re doing here on espresso don’t go anywhere because we’re going to be making sure that we 100% start your morning off the right way here on S3 stick around there are stories of Strivers and we’re inspired by them all we invite you to write your story with us your story matters Absa e e e [Music] welcome back here on your feel good breakfast show here on S3 I missed you it was only two minutes but it was far too long my love I promised you since the beginning that we would be having a performer that is going to blow you away I am talking about a queen who was French born but oh honey she loves South African music because when we say I’m aano to the world we’re backing it up this morning here on espresso because she is someone who started off by taking over the social media streets with her beautiful covers of the biggest ESS amap Piana tunes and now she’s releasing her own music which you’re going to be hearing right here on espresso everybody please welcome to your F breakfast show it is Kazi hello gorgeous girl how are you I’m good and yourself amazing all the bet for having you here yeah I’m so I was so excited to come also y and and you even made time for us right before you head off to Paris tomorrow oh my goodness okay so I want to get everything frenchorn but how did you come to be an essay my love so it was very random um I arrived to do a volunteering Mission inang K in what yes and then I was 18 so went 2018 yeah and then I I kept studying here oh yeah so yeah I loved it so much that I just stayed here you know I love that and what were you studying at the time I was studying a BC human life science in St and Bosch University my goodness what Drew you to say I’m aano music so I was during co co time you know there was cab releasing happy and I don’t know it’s just it was just the co music you know you’re just vibing in your home and stuff and at this time I was already doing some acoustic covers of songs that I enjoyed I like we’re not trying it out you know so I took a little guitar I bought a like a not a very great guitar cash crus and then well it did the things yes it definitely did the things then I started to to learn the the guitar and I did Abal the first cover I did yeah in 2021 I think and um yeah I did very well so there was a lot of producers coming afterwards to ask me like you know do real at my piano so yes a girl not it just did well it took over the social media streets like I said and it’s so beautiful to see how you’ve grown as an artist now but within your music you like to fuse in English as well as French but then you also bring in the African languages who taught you to pronounce all of the African words speak to us you know when I was uh doing this volunteering Mission I was working in an orphanage in child’s home and um this the children was Zulu so I didn’t know English much well that time either and I started just to learn English and Zulu at the same time but more to pronounce Zulu more than to speak well now I’m learning a little bit and uh yeah so that’s kind of when I actually started to to be uh pronouncing it and I mean you would not take off any African languages from an a piano song you know yeah so you’ll just leave it that way yeah and I just wanted to incorporate my own language and my own culture because I think French and zul Oher yeah they go very well together I think say again that’s my oh you say it so nicely I love that click no fine but how did you juggle being a student and being an artist cuz that’s crazy yeah I think music drives me in the studies and studies studies drives me into the music like I would do the studies throughout the day and then at night I would just be doing music and I’m still doing this and it’s just like a relief you know from the studies break and stuff so yeah so you’re still studying and doing music at the same time now girl cuz like you at the like hectic part of studying now aren’t you I’m in m in Belgium yeah oh my goodness yeah it’s a bit he but yeah we just balance all together to to make it you know sounds great I think yeah I love that and obviously we spoke about you fusing all of these beautiful languages what really inspired you to decide to do that you know is it something that you heard or was it something you felt like you needed to do in your heart like I think people here pushed me a little bit because I was just trying to get out of my culture to learn another one and people just reminded me yeah that culture is very your own Origins are very important and I just thought of w trying to figure out to translate Theo songs in French and it actually suits very well it does suit very well love so yeah and I mean just in the world in general from everything that is happening building like two countries linking two countries together that that are so different I think just makes diversity so much more beautiful right yeah I love it and that’s the thing about Amo it brings people together whether it’s a party or the country yeah AFF foration now dude literally Amo took over cuz I think it started with like one or two artists being there now there’s an entire stage for that was crazy it really is but you were speaking about translating please can you translate you know some of the songs that you’re going to be doing today yes so the first one is going to is a a love song it says p means thinking of you so it’s basically talking about the long distance relationship of like you know when you leave the person for so long then you’ll just like be thinking of this person all the time and you can actually not function without you know just thinking this person yeah I love that okay we are excited we’re ready she’s not going anywhere espresso family used to exactly where you are because soon enough she’s going to be blowing you away with her Angelic voice and I know as well that it is going to be making your morning that much better right here on your fielda breakfast show speaking of feeling good there are two people who always leave me feeling good it is Karissa and R how my Beauties there in ki town a stop at you absolutely loving this conversation but let me tell you these moments on espresso move fast and I think life in general moves fast but coffee gives you permission to reset save the moment and just hit pause ah it’s time to hit pause with Jacobs and this morning we are embracing the aromatic flavors of the Jacob’s origin range with listen to this the Latin American and Southeast Asian selections which of course promises a flavorful coffee experience indeed do you have a sip already ra I have and honestly for something that uh tastes this good I’m blown away that you are literally getting these sort of nuances from another planet almost it’s not just going overseas to Latin America we Intergalactic yeah it feels like another world but I absolutely love this this is something I could definitely sip on Savor and almost reflect on when it comes to those big moments and speaking of I know we we often attempt big es in our lives right and sometimes we successful sometimes sometimes right when those moments do arise how do you savor it in do you do you find yourself reflecting on these moments or you just I got to keep this momentum and move on and not even look back how do you deal with that to be honest I’m like an insid head person I’m very reflective on the day to-day and I really love journaling and so every time I write things down I can always look back like a year later and realize oh my gosh Carissa you have come so far in the last six months three months year and your life just looks so different I’m also a believer in like faith and manifestation so I was actually looking at my vision board yesterday and I was like whoa I’ve ticked off so many things on here and it was such a beautiful moment of reflection for me I think that’s literally hitting the nail on the head for me I think we don’t often enough take moments to reflect because if you aren’t you don’t realize the progress you’re making in life and when you take a moment to I think hit pause choose an opportunity to literally reflect on something like that you realize how much power you’ve gained and within that the moment itself becomes so empowering absolutely do you celebrate those moments I was going to ask you you celebrate those moments I need to do better at celebrating I think um I’m one of those people that goes from like goal to goal to goal and I never really take a moment to be like let’s pop a bottle or let’s go out for a nice dinner or let’s do something that’s going to fill me up again so I need to do better at that how about you yeah I I was very much the same I think especially when you dive into an industry like this you have a goal but the minute you achieve it you think okay it’s it keeps moving and it’s like the next stepping stone to a bigger goal so I was very much like you for the best part of my life just constantly moving this instant gratification dealing with the chaos until I found the opportunity and The Power Within these moments to actually just stop breathe pause and reflect like you’ve just mentioned now and that’s almost become my celebratory dance is to take a moment to just calm breathe and remind yourself that hey man you’ve done some incredible things and you need to take a moment to celebrate this because you’ve done something incredible and I think we as human beings don’t do that often enough and we need to incorporate that in our lives because I think we all are achieving the absolute most and we really need to give ourselves a bigger pet on the we do don’t we everybody really just needs that moment to be like okay we need to just make sure that we’re good and make sure that we give ourselves the heads up and the thumbs up and everybody does need some inspiration on their journey of life and it just so happens that a cup of coffee of the finest coffee can encourage you to keep on going and Stephanie got me motivated just that find your wonderful Jacobs vindar oh man it’s so good to be back on our field of breakfast show you know as the Jo Studio we were away for a little bit but I just am reminded of how we have so much balance here H everything in the mix and mix Masala just for your morning and speaking of which coming up my lovely we want to tell you all about how if you’re a fur parent you need to be grooming your fair babies all of those tips are coming your way in a bit and then finally kazel is going to be performing she is a French born artist that has absolutely fallen in love with amap piano and is now releasing her very own amap piano music it’s going to be happening yes she’s performing live right here on espresso do not go anywhere you’re exactly where you need to be [Music] day e e e [Music] oh yes Zan welcome back this is your Feelgood breakfast show this is how Tuesday we’re not just providing health for humans but for our furry pets too so pet lovers listen up we’re going to be diving into the delightful world of dog grooming and whether you’re a seasoned Pro or a firsttimer for fur parenting then don’t worry we’ve got some tail wagging tips for you because joining us in the studio we’ve got Kirsten from mango pip and a talented dog gromer extraordinaire to Bar about all things grooming and keeping our furry friends flee and tick free and Kirsten’s brought along Maisy hey Maisy we live TV you got to step it up here my friend how are you little CU how you doing this wding I’m good how are you I’m fantastic I am always finding the softest spot spot in my heart for animals so you you’ve occupied all of it right now I want to talk about dog room you want to dive straight into this obviously there are so many different ways and myths about how we need to look after our dogs how we need to groom them and how we need to keep them well behaved we’re all trying to deal with that at the moment ma is doing her own thing right now clearly um but as I was saying we’re talking about grooming grooming techniques what are some of the techniques that we can use to help maybe maintain our dogs hair and when Maisie does decide to come back on the screen we can show off that beautiful coat but let’s talk about the coat in the meantime how do we maintain it what sort of ideas do you have for that so essentially when you’re looking at uh maintaining a coat you’re looking at two main things which would be bathing and brushing okay so and that really depends on what kind of dog you’ve got is going to depend on what you do so I mean you’ve got everything from ridgeback which has got hair this short and you know it hardly needs much grooming at all all the way through to somebody like Maisy who’s got really thick coats all the way through to the poodles who need a hell of a lot of styling so there’s all these different levels or Husky owner like myself that just every single day we brushing and a that’s crazy so there’s different levels to that but essentially looking at at thorough bathing and then good brushing okay depending to keep them to either keep the undercoat out like on someone like Maisy um or on someone like a prud or a schn to keep them uh matte free cuz you don’t want those mat TI you beting and and I like the fact that you are not just applying a blanket approach to this because like you saying now every dog’s fur is different some is thin some is insulating some are doing crazy things so that’s a great tip when it comes to navigating these different types of fur obviously some dogs it’s a little bit harder to check for certain things like let’s say ticks and fleas what tips do you have for let’s say both Shad dogs and also the long tricky interesting long hair dogs like Maisy over there that’s again hiding in the studio and we’re hoping to get Maisy back sometime so how do we how do we do that any tips on chick for that I think the first thing I would suggest is to use your eyes I mean you’re going to see your eyes are going to give you the best the best Clues um check around the base of the tail and up along the spine you will find if there’s quite a lot of fleas you’ll see they call it flea dirt but it’s actually flea poop and it’s like it looks like tin little SPS of almost like black pepper or something it looks like tiny little black dots offf if you see that you’ve defitely got a flea issue okay so that’s definitely something to check for with your eyes if you don’t have that many fleas you can use a tool like this which is a flea comb on someone like Maisie it’s going to take a long time yeah can imagine to get through all that hair but essentially what it does is it’s going to allow you to comb through through the hair and pick out individual fleas almost like a s way this is a way in which you could actually manage that problem and try deal with something like ticks and fleas you could also use a comb like this you could totally other options if it’s not a comb or not a physical option is is bathing still something that can work it totally is I mean I don’t really believe in the M massive tick dips that they used to use in the 80s and stuff I think just find that really harsh but there are ticken flea shampoos out there that you can use okay um yeah and then otherwise obviously the products that are available to all right well it looks like Ma’s ready for a second round here you hey Ma you want to come with the maze Maisy come on Maisy oh look at you cutie oh the food works so so you were talking about how difficult it might be to maybe deal with combing through a hair like maisy’s right obviously because there’s a lot of hair here how would you maybe then use a quicker example of checking for those fleas and ticks while we were mentioning now so someone like maisia I see a lot of long hairs behind the ears and and stuff like that so is that something that you’d also want to like sift through as well is that challeng you can I mean she’s going stra to the B here my bugs there you go um you can I mean you could also use a comb like this but it’s not going to be as fine as that but that’s what I would say yeah there we go I’ve got Maisy now you’re all mine you’re not going anywhere um but yeah I mean I would I would try and part the hair as much as I could and get and really look at the skin and the skin is is going to be where you see stuff you’re not going to see it in the actual hair it’s going to be and particularly around this area here you’re going to see a lot of stuff and that’ll give you Clues well thank you so much for coming through with these tips Maisy just it’s full of energy I’m going to let Maisy go because mais want to go okay you go maisy’s just full of energy so active and this is something that I love about the fact that when it comes to grooming how do you get a dog like that to keep still and I found that if you kind of use like treats or something you lure them to the bath it really does work and I love these options thank you so much this is this is what education is about I think and this is what we are loving right now thank you for bringing Maisy through showing us that not every dog is perfect but we love them nonetheless and nothing is of the that we with these lovely animals thanks for that and I think toiing for companions who for you this is what that we’re talking about how to become a master and how to master what are we talking about relationships m big topic indeed and it’s something that I think we all need to master right now Sam Zan we brought in the professionals just to have that exact discussion and then we’ve got more for you more money coming to you 10,000 R in fact I’ve got to announce a winner for our competition that’s been running it could just be you so don’t go anyway very dry tight sensitive skin relieve itchy skin in just 60 seconds with a Veno skin relief moisturizing lotion aino e e e [Music] oh yes andan welcome back this is your Feelgood breakfast show opening up great conversations right here on S3 and we talking about something that we all need to master and that is our relationships now our relationships are a a reflection of ourselves and our lives I think and they bring about a sense of well-being belonging and more importantly purpose now to become a master in these complex connections we need to understand the importance of self-reflection and growth so here to unpack the topic is our big Flex panel we’ve got life executive and positive intelligence Coast coach Adrian feral and then we have relationship coach Paulo Mendes in the building two absolutely incredible Souls perfect for the occasion how we doing this morning uh great thanks BR I wanted to ask you this question about relationships and and I think in our day-to-day lives they’re quite important but I’m going to throw a curveball here and first start off with why I think it’s important to have a good relationship with ourselves oh I think that’s important right why do you reiterate this or maybe you disagree with me but why do you think this is of importance ad maybe you look like youve got a lot to say this point well yeah I think um thanks for that question ra I think you know and I and I really want to quote one one of my alltime Idols here and that’s rup Paul and he says if you can’t love yourself how in the hell are you going to love someone else and and I think it’s about that self- knowledge and that self-awareness you know if I know what I want and what I need it’s easier for me to communicate that to the next person of course it’s easier to talk to other important relationships in my life and say you know what this is this is what I want and this is what I need and and then just have a complete acceptance of that and say this is how I want show up in life and this is how I’m going to do it so please yeah love yourself first and when you do that you can then love the next person if you’re accepting of yourself it’s easier to accept other people if you you know love yourself hard better it’s easier to love other people and yeah that’s why it’s important to to have a good relationship with yourself now it starts to make sense follow obviously something that we don’t always find ourselves in we don’t always understand the love that we need for ourselves right how can we maybe incorporate more of that to get us to a point where we comfortable with ourselves and further than comfortable finding better success in the relationships that we pursue as well well first I want to acknowledge what Adrian said right I mean it has to start within us um I remember my old martial arts teacher saying if there’s no enemy within the enemy outside is not a threat so getting to know who we are what are my likes what are my dislikes what what are my beliefs what are my values that self- introspection that that you know pay attention to what I like what I don’t what are the boundaries that I need to develop to relate better with others right uh that empowers us to be best for ourselves and best for others sometime culture can be so demanding yeah and we always trying to fit in Adrian Adrian sorry ad and I were chatting outside and and sometimes the expectation that you know if I’m not liked am I not good or if the person doesn’t agree with me does that mean I’m not good enough and sometimes we have to step a bit a little bit back take a deep breath and say you know what who am I am I being authentic to who I am then I can be a better version of myself to anybody in any situation oh I love that advice and it’s almost something that I think would roll over into the practical sense of how do we actually action this and I think when it comes to both our personal and professional relationships in our lives it’s of utmost importance I think to create principles and and sort of building blocks that maintain these relationships you’ve mentioned some great points here already on how we can do that but is it important for us to completely know ourselves when we are trying to build these relationships is it something that will definitely help or there other tips and tricks that could assist us in navigating and getting these relationships to where we want them to be R I think it’s there’s two that I want to highlight and I think the the first one that’s so important is empathy empathy empathy empathy can you explain empathy and I’m saying empathy many times because I think it’s first empathy to ourselves okay and then empathy empathy to other people and then empathy to the situation and the circumstances we all come from somewhere you know and we all are here and some of that was not even our own doing but we are showing up in the world a certain way and empathy gives us that deep curiosity to go to the other person and say you know what I understand my world and it this is how it is I want to understand your world and how it is and once we have that Curiosity and we have that empathy you know we can then just have a completely different relationship with ourselves and people and and the other thing I want to do is I I want to change slightly the topic and I want to call it healthier relationships yes because you know we are all doesn’t matter where we are in our relationship or where we are in our life we can be healthier and that e year if I can say it like that is our invitation for growth that is the space of encouragement because if we are healthier we can be healthier and we can be healthier and that is and that is exactly what what you have to do you just got to be 1% better it’s like a positive self-fulfilling prophecy it’s a positive self-fulfilling propy beautiful word and the second one is is is briefly is is feedback you know we we we are in relationships with ourselves with people in work parents if you have children be open with feedback and you know and accepted with a growth mindset um and if you have to give feedback be kind and if you do that do it with discernment and not judgment because when we give feedback with discernment we that’s the growth again sure which is for me the key to healthier relationship health I for the ears man we’re talking about uh reflecting in oneself and I think that’s pretty important it’s worthwhile to reflect and I think when you have this understanding which we’re highlighting now it seems to make everything so much easier in life it seems to be able to improve so many other aspects of Our Lives we were speaking about these relationships and making them healthier is it the same principle to apply a personal relationship and a professional relationship do we apply the same mechanics let’s say in a workplace where I really want to impress my boss I want to impress the co-workers I have around me uh there’s a level of how personal we can get with the relationships we have with them right but you mentioned something like empathy is that still a place that is that still a space for it can we still apply empathy in a professional environment and will it give us that Roi that we actually looking for 100% 100% because at the end of the day it’s about relationships and it’s just different levels of relationships like Adrian mentioned parents and children sometimes at work it’s like we have those that we are parenting because they are younger they more naive or more inexperienced they need somebody to look up to and we have those that we look up to in our work uh uh scenario environment right so relationships may change in terms of context but the principles are the same the principles are about understanding and transparency authentity trust communication mutual respect so I love that concept concept of healthier because sometimes we get stuck on the idea that we need to be perfect or others expect us to be perfect or we put on ourselves the expectation of I cannot make a mistake and when we have the freedom to be vulnerable in the right context I can look at myself the self-introspection self-reflection and say okay what are the triggers that are present here in this scenario what kind of situations trigger me in a negative way what kind of situations lead me to self-sabotage what kind of scenarios make me feel insecure and then I I react as lash A Lash shout right so that self-reflection and that that know of thyself know the individual will lead to Stronger relationships at work at Family couples children everyone ah gentlemen thank you so much again for this conversation it’s not stopping y we are going to dive something delicious a butter ravioli look how good it looks and we’ve got the plug on just how easy it is to make it go down zanzi all this to tuck into in just a bit don’t go anywhere can make my day e e [Music] oh yes Sam zanzi as promised opening up right here on S3 this is your Feelgood breakfast show and we are carrying on like I promised with an incredible conversation something I think everybody should listen to right now and we’re back with our big Flex panel to continue the powerful discussion of mastering our relationships and a reminder that joining us we have life coach life executive and positive intelligence coach Adrian fandal as well as relationship coach Paulo Mendes in the building again gentlemen I love the conversation we were establishing about relationships how important it is to not focus on the external not compare ourselves to anybody else other than ourselves and the big point that I noticed from that conversation was that we can just be better than we were yesterday be better than the version of yourself before and that already got me into a very excited way of thinking I want to dive into the maybe flip side of this conversation where we talking about relationships we’re talking about ourselves and earlier we discussed how we need to know ourselves in order to then bring that truth into the relationship so that it’s going to allow for growth for magic Etc but what happens if I know myself right now but as I enter the relationship I’m in a great relationship that allows for growth and I start to grow as an individual within that relationships that growth brings about change do I constantly Converse about this or do I go and have that change outside the relationship and then come back and say hey this is the new me 2.0 this is what I’m about now how do we navigate this because it’s a lot easier said than done right exactly it is a lot easier said than done and I think you know whether we like it or not whether we have but and whether it’s conscious or not we all have an image of love in our head you know and that image come with us from from wherever from you know when we were small to where we are now so what we then go and look for in the world is we kind of look for worthy individuals that’s worthy of love to fit into that image and then that’s when you start getting the thing about oh but this one’s not ticking this box this one is not ticking that that box but what growth and 2.0 means is that you move into a relationship and you want to be healthier in that relationship you want to to be happier and what does that look like what does that look like for me and what does that look like for you and how does that look like for us you know if we if we have set out this goal of healthy and happier relationships what does that look like and then totally looking back on discernment and not judgment you know when we look back in discernment we look at something exactly as what they were and we see what we can do better what we can enhance what should what should we let go of but judgment is like I’m a failure I can’t do this icon grow stop that go with discernment everybody has the ability to grow and that should be the the goal of anything relationship and especially with ourselves I love that maybe I can throw a cural in here let’s say you do go through these changes and you do bring it up in the relationship you’re throwing the curve me he get the easy question I you can go and and look you both can jump on this one if you feel fit but let’s say that I do present these changes in the relationship and my partner then mentions to me that hang on you mentioned this at the start is it fair for them to keep me accountable to who I was in my past um or should they be constantly looking towards a new version of us Paulo you see I knew you were ready for this one man teacher teacher cuz I mean this is the reality of the situation a lot of us are going through these changes a lot of us are judging each other and saying hang on but when you came into relationships you said you never do that so is this Fair how do we how do we deal with this change is inevitable right it’s it’s in nature everything is growing or dying so the the healthier better happier it’s it’s little changes every day this is bound to happen I think two principles are fundamental there think of a diamond a diamond is a piece of chocolate that under tremendous pressure became a precious Jewel right but when you get a diamond it’s rough doesn’t look anything special or it’s not particularly beautiful it’s the dreaming the edging the the the sharpening that gives the the Diamond its value and Beauty so we come to the relationship with our 2.0 version as the first segment we were talking about the personal growth and and loving ourselves but it’s in the relationship that we sharpen one another and that is going to provoke changes that is going to lead to transformation and growth the key here then becomes am I talking about perception or am I talking about perspective because my perception of you it’s what I want out of you and what I think you can give me when I look at you from a different perspective I can see you for who you are and what you bring to the relationship what are your strengths rather than seeing your weaknesses because it’s not what I wanted so when we lead from having a perspective of the person that I’m in relationship with rather than just my perception which is a easier way to say my expectations right yeah absolutely love that so I think it’s really about oneself if you could wrap this up into a small that was good drops the mic right there just like that we could wrap this up into one sentence and I know this is a tricky one because you have a plethora of words in which you could express this but how would you encourage the individual out there right now to chase a better relationship ship with themselves chase a better understanding of themselves and how they can bring that positivity back into relationship how would you encourage them to do that it’s going to be a long one sentence I think what’s m what’s very important for any individual is get your set of values and once you have your set of values let that become your compass that is where you are trying to head to and how are you going to get there and and and you know I do this thing in my practice where I say to my clients just do a simple exercise reflect back in a year in a month and then you can say to yourself my healthier relationship looks like this there’s things that I had to let go of there’s things that I had to enhance you know and and it was all worth the while and then when you do that you will start seeing your values and get a little relationship Compass head somewhere head for healthier and and get there well gentlemen thank you so much Adan you are wealth of knowledge Paulo I tried every curveball I could but you knocked it all out the park so again thank you for your wisdom it’s it’s easy with Adra next to me oh no I think between the two of you you create such a beautiful balance this is the perfect panel yes these are the diamonds already shining through the rough and I think with this relationship we’ve created we’ve sharpened we’ve brightened and we’ve chased one step closer to Brilliance and I thank you for that favorite hiking route to do while enjoying an Omar Rask snack break at the top pretty simple right now we want you to share your answer using the hashtag Omar dipping delicious of course and come through with the most iconic answers that you can because let’s be honest sa sa has some options in the mountains yeah beautiful well let me ask you this what is the most breathtaking view you’ve actually encountered on a hike in sou Africa it’s going to be hard for you to choose cuz You’ pretty much peaked Every Mountain um that is such a hard question I think it’s those moments and it might sound so cliche but there’s those moments where you hike up like table mount on a lion’s head and you get the low Atlantic fog coming through and it causes this like ocean of cloud beneath the peaks of the mountain so when you Summit through that mist and you get to the top and hopefully there’s a sunrise to meet you as well it is the most iconic thing you can ever think of honestly with the situation that we have in the Western Cape and the way the the the climate really works it offers something so unique literally just picture being on top of a cloud of a ocean Cloud Sun’s rising and you can just see these Peaks pointing through it’s like you are floating in heaven somewhere and the perfect time to have a snack obviously warm coffee warm and a beautiful and delicious Omar Rask I love that you’re so passionate about hi do you have any any like moments that stand off you cuz I know you’ve been an adventurer of L I’ve been trying to Adventure you know I try to get out every now and then for me it’s recently been Sunrise hike so because the sun is rising at like what time 600 in the not even lat now a little bit later than sum we’re out the house by like 6:30 though and it’s still dark and painful but it always makes it so worthwhile when we step out and we can see from the dark to the light and then the sun peeking on through so we’ve been doing newand quite a bit it’s been really nice yeah nice have you been enjoying some rust on your high cuz you it’s pretty much like a staple actually like I got an opportunity again just to escape the chaos and find a moment it wasn’t too long but I found a moment to head into nature and I think what really brings it together is when you find that moment and for me that dipping delicious time is that moment really where you get to just be on your own you get to reflect you get to just like think about and absorb everything happening in your life we don’t make enough time for that and I think when we are Outdoors away from the chaos that offers you this opportunity to do that it’s like a form of therapy actually to be honest with you so any Summit that involves a moment like this for me is it’s just opportune it’s picturesque and it’s memorable oh it’s the way to go they call it Eco theapy actually ecotherapy therapy so it’s definitely my kind of therapy I love it what is your go-to hiking playlist do you have one or do you kind of like listen to Nature as you go I used to need like a little bit of motivation to get to the top of the Peaks but once you really start to again take some moments to just pause yeah listen to what’s around you I found that the best playlist that I’ve ever had is nature mother nature has the perfect timing the Perfect Beat the perfect nuances when you need it the crescendos the drops they are all there for you you literally just have to listen and I think what’s important is that we take that time to cut out the noise cut out the external everything and just realize where you are it’s so often that we are not present the Liv so that’s an opportunity to do just that and maybe take that energy with you as you go back downstairs into the chaos of life and all demands if you’re going to listen to anybody it is Nature Boy and I think that we need to take a sneak peek into your latest hiking Adventure that we’re going to be sharing tomorrow on the show and trust me you don’t want to miss this journey so let’s see what R got up to was goody I think being out in nature can influence your mindset and well-being so positively because it allows you an opportunity to escape the chaos a lot of the time we are operating in a world that requires instant it’s demanding and it can be very overwhelming but I think once you come out to Nature it’s such a beautiful polarity of exactly that it’s a chance to slow things down it’s a chance to Basque absorb the good energy and really start to reconnect honestly this right here is just perfect I mean how can you blame me right we’ve got our favorite Rusk our favorite warm cup of tea and I think just surrounded by the beauty of nature doesn’t get better than this I told you right H come on and that for me was a perfect opportunity to showcase the fact that you don’t need to do something crazy or Master the biggest Summit you can find any outdoor space and make the most of it so for yum zanzi I want to make sure that you tune in tomorrow for an adventure that will inspire insire you to lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails and another reminder that you can get your entries in now because hiking roots on top of your list for a snack time break Omar rusks the ultimate snack time treat dipping delicious tast filling [Music] satisfying and we definitely need to take a moment in the kitchen before we close up shop today because I’ve got such a delicious recipe just for you now whether spray onto bread or melted over the most delectable dishes the creamy texture and unique taste of butter we know this it just elevates food time and time again and we’re showing you how without burnt butter and Sage ravioli I know your mouth is already watering you’re wondering Carissa how do we do this while I’m going to do it for you not alone though R come on in let’s try this recipe together it’s really simple it’s really beautiful and it’s really delicious okay first things first we’re going to need butter everything’s better with butter come on we’re going for our clover full cream cuz we’re not holding back right now modified butter spread we’re going to need about six tablespoons of this as well so it’s nice and soft it’s easy how EAS to work with come on oh my goodness that might have been two tablespoons no one’s going to be complaining about this I mean honestly butter is just bringing all the good stuff into a meal right now as we can see and it works so so well and um I’ve got to be honest I don’t know what meals I don’t use butter for anymore these days it just kind of gives you that extra Umami feel it brings the recipe’s ingredients together in a way that I don’t think many others can so I’m here for the simple I’m here for the good taste and the fact that you’re already starting off with that ingredient means yeah these boxes are being ticked exactly and what’s crazy is that this is pretty much the sauce by ravioli it is it is oh okay now I’m getting excited getting excited well now ravioli pretty much has its own thing going on we’re using feta and spinach ravioli today so we just need something to complement that right and for today we going to get our butter going and throw our sage in as well now the butter is going to go nutty and brown really excited for that and we’re going to throw a couple of sage leaves in just to enhance the flavor a little bit Yeah and Sage is not used often enough in ingredients I have many meals that we’ve actually used raw sage like this in as well but if you really get involved in like the scent and oh the turps on this thing it’s so powerful and I can see how it can be incorporated into a recipe bringing freshness bringing that like zestiness in a weird way but also that sort of like Back To Nature feel which I absolutely love so you love that yeah for this you’re here do you taste it I don’t know if you can eat stage roll let me try me on live TV let’s just debunk this one can you taste this one not I don’t know let me figure this out did he die no you’re okay it’s a Vibe actually it’s quite potent I’m not going to lie it is it brings a bit ofit like a zing on the side of the the tongue there but yeah this is really good I can confirm you can do this it’s it’s it’s not a health risk all right back to the recipe though but we are cooking the sage today along with the butter the two flavors are going to come together so beautifully like I said it’s really simple all you have to do is actually just season it and then you’re good to go so we’re going to throw in some salt a little bit of that little bit of cracked black pepper nice maybe like two pinches of that and keep on stirring now we don’t want the butter to burn either right so we’re going to keep on going it’s just going to go nice and nutty nice and brown and once you can even smell the aroma coming through already such a beautiful combination one thing that really stands out for me right now is the fact that when it comes to recipes like this we don’t need to use 500 ingredients when we keep it simple and we focus on the good stuff that makes me know that I can trust this recipe I can buy into this and I can maybe repeat this on and on and on knowing that we’re using quality ingredients and we’re getting quality taste out of a meal and never mind ravioli I can imagine any sort of pasta kind of working with this combination if you think about vegetables R throw this over some roasted virie and you have got a meal to go so it’s very versatile and like you said we’re heroing the main product which is the butter right and then we’re just adding some Sage to bring out the butter taste more so with this this warm butter that we’ve got going they call it burnt butter but we’re not really burning the butter we’re going to throw it on over our ravioli okay so we want me to bring this to your okay you’ve got it I’ll come to you nicely done wish me luck careful cuz it I was so confident up until now there we go Perfection and then we throw also the sage leaves make a lovely like little garnish on top it does really looks good it I can only imagine not yet look at me getting so excited what’s next what we got to throw some cheese everything is bettered with cheese right and I’m going to do all of it nicely done that’s going to add some extra flavor and now I present to you the burnt butter ravioli Chef I’m absolutely impressed then the reminder zanzi the butter is not burnt it’s perfectly prepared this is espresso show.com recipe that you can find if you want this inspiration but buap bone Apple teeth enjoy whoa right oh my word yeah there’s so much more flavor in this now it is really bringing this thing to life I just want to take everything at home and start
