[Music] [Music] well after all the bumps and bruises of yesterday tosson train shining brightly at the end of what was a real battle Adam Yates in charge of the yellow Jersey uh looks quite able in that regard and how he’ll look at the end of today which he starts as absolute out andout favorite is anybody’s guess it could be a yawning Chasm between Adam Yates and everybody else or indeed shut down today well we had ourselves a breakaway but it all came down really to an action-packed final 35 km we dealt with Sprints uh we dealt with king of the mountains points but one man was out to make a big big Point he’d been in the Breakaway for the entire day and torsson train decided to sail home behind him the battle was raging amongst the GC contenders he came home tidily and with a 23 Second gap on next man home nobody from the break it was Adam Yates that was to pop up and indeed cruise into the yellow Jersey this was a big margin he was posting racing against the other GC contenders rather than trying to close the gap on train but it ended up being the same Factor train took the day ahead of Yates Shellos lighting it up for third place ahead of Almeida and Egan Bernal who’s slowly but surely getting better and better but is now a minute behind uh trainer at the Finish but 47 seconds down on this man when you’re frur in the bonus seconds as well it’s even worse than that around about 57 seconds Sy yankes is in charge of the yellow Jersey and it very much feels that way however you can never counts anything in cycling except for its uncertainty and this is how it shapes up right now Burnal at 49 seconds sorry if I misg guarded you at shes on 26 likewise Almeida teammate of Adam Yates kman rounding out the top five ahead of Onley Mass utre you get the idea he’s looking pretty handy so if anyone wants to make move up or do some damage to the GC they’ve got a chance today I think it’s possibly stage wins only on what has rapidly become from I think the queen stage of this year’s race 148.5 km Ambry it to carry now there is as ever a plateau where we play with the low ground at altitude or the flat ground at altitude I should say uh little bit of a loop around Ambry first just to open the blood vessels I think it’s fair to say Category 2 test right out of the back door and then up the lass a a few little diversions along the way carry is our ultimate finish and we take the mountain around the place in One Direction and we’ll do it again in another Direction in a few moments time as you will see back down then into the valley floor and again a couple of little Loop diversions along the way but really it’s about heading back and then thinking about the return leg to carry itself so energy preservation is if there’s anything left to be had after the exerion of the morning and I can tell you alenko has been very very Lively on the first two climbs of the day in fact he’s moved into the Mountain’s classification there’s that secondary Loop that I was telling you about before they head back to carry and indeed our finale there is of course a tiso Sprint along the way somebody pointing out a few of you actually that any Riders from chudah are unlikely to go for the Tiss rival watch brands there you go so back at the same Hill but in the opposite [Music] direction let’s hear shall we from our glorious leader on what could be an even more glorious day for him today look at that we’re about so we’re approaching the halfway mark after completing two climbs big one to come at the end um how was it to put this yellow Jersey on this morning yeah it’s nice uh you know it’s always a privilege to put the leadest Jersey on so yeah hopefully today should be a good day it’s another Mountain finish so yeah let’s see do you feel like you have still to gain some time in the GC over the others you uh I would like to um but I mean it depends the legs now so uh yeah in the back of my mind always is is the TT the last day so yeah the more time you have there the less uh stress you have we’ll see what can you tell us about the last Clan it’s a bit harder I think than yesterday yeah yeah it’s long and it’s also steeper uh than yesterday so I’m about the cobbles which is fantastic so uh it sus me a little bit better um and yeah the guys are super motivated and um we’ll see thank you Adam best of luck cheers I must say it looks very relaxed time to wake up and smell the well the Roses as well as the coffee Amry lovely little mountain settlement not that far away about 6 or 7 kilm from K our finish Point uh but we kind of head away from both settlements and swap sides of the valley it’s as simple as [Music] that bit more pensive Adam at the beginning of the day as you can see just uh ordering his dinner at ton train is our mountains man after his fabulous win yesterday that was great to see Man in Black cue the music Brian Kar stage win shares the points T of 18 with Michael Matthews up there and Matthew shelo is our young Rider classification leader oh seems it’s taking Primacy over his at Danish national Jersey they get the option as to whether to wear it or not shos has opted to do that second C climb straight more or less out of the back door a couple of steps before we got there lenko took it ahead of Damen hon zoff Lawrence and indeed Steve Williams and that was our first little Breakaway had formed it had a tenuous Gap then when we came to the first category climb up to carry the first time of asking to carry Leno took it on his own and the chase was being invoked by in his grenadiers Egan Bernal Rivera pidcock and uh Del Toro for United Arab Emirates just crossing after lenko not starting today at carapaz betol who was really banged about yesterday and gueri which is a real shame so um the liveliest Rider so far today has been a let lenko he was in the first iteration of the Breakaway the second and now indeed the third Incarnation he’s determined to be up there and make a statement been saying recently he’s a good bet for a top 10 in the Tour of France as a feat he has achieved on a couple of occasions he always warms up at this time of year and it’s almost the ideal thing for him this sort of racist preparation and at the moment he’s absolutely flying welcome it’s the tour of Switzerland and today we’re taking on the uh the burden if you will or the Riders are of the fifth stage destination carry not that far away from from our starting point of the day we sort of played with either side of the valley after we departed from Ambry right now you’re looking at the peltin now it had actually thinned down to about 35 Riders they’ve reassembled um they’ve kind of stepped off the gas just a little bit that gas really was being imposed the acceleration from the pellets and closing down our Breakaway by in his grenadiers who were not happy about how it was shaping up out front in fact the last Mountain that we took they came across cross very smartly with Egen B now right up towards the front um bran Rivera also there Tom pitcock they were gaining points without really trying to be honest the Mana was really trying out front Al let let enko come to the formation of our Breakaway in a moment but there is Adam yankes comfortably installed in that Jersey nearest man to him is in fact his teammate Almeida so no Challenge from there 26 seconds is his advantage over his nearest rival and that is just after the first climbing day today the second of the four climbing days proper that we have within this race and it could get even more comfortable for Adam Gates by the end provided he gets through the drama of what we’re dealing with here and it’s some spectacular scenery I must say we passed the highest point of this year’s race by the way just over 1600 m 2 minutes and 8 is our Gap and I’m hoping we’re going to hve in on our Breakaway in a few moments time and we’ll talk you through how it assembled it was quite frantic right from the beginning of the day a man who ues the Frantic is of course Brian Smith he’s he’s kind of the most Jazz Club Techno fan you can possibly imagine and he’s with us now uh Brian took a long time for this Breakaway to finally settle down but uh the determined are up the road yeah it was a hard start wasn’t a second category climb straight from the off and then a first category climb a lot of strong Riders trying to get themselves in the Breakaway but it was about kind of damage limitation for the riders in the general classification hence we’ve got this Breakaway here of five Raiders yeah Al let lenko was in the first push um I’ve got to say n Peters was as well before it was all wound in because of the efforts of Inus grenadiers lenko hung out there I think margin was about 6 or eight seconds by the time he went over the top of the uh first category climb which was the te the second Mountain dealt with on the today puts him on 19 points he already had one solitary point which means he has an advantage now over train who has the climers jersey after his victory yesterday also got himself the tiso watch as you well know um so yeah train is in the mountains Jersey that is now owned at the moment by Le lenko who here has the Kazakhstan National Jersey the white with the pale blue band and golden star well it star studied this Nan Peters was also in that first attempt at a breakaway a few others as well Steve Williams also had a go and in fact featured in the points over the first clim um Damen hon didn’t make it but um Stan MIT has bridged over too Rubio nans Peters Leto and Steve Williams uh sted in the yellow and black trade kit of course of visma Lisa bike and this is a strong Breakaway I must say um best placed of them is Rubio at 2 minutes and 23 so if you manage to post another half a minute he’ll be uh in the virtual lead of the race but that’s tenuous especially when you see the power that Adam Yates displayed yesterday he was remarkable Brian he was indeed um and he said in his interview just there this stage suits him a little bit better we have G over the steepest side to carry but this side is well up to the Finish is um rather steepen when you look at the the route today it’s as if they’re they’re trying to get as many kilometers in in this Valley they can up and down a couple of valleys because in this Valley just look at it you go left or right you got up pill um so they had two climbs at the start and they’re just going to Meandering and double backing themselves up this Valley and we’ve got a stiff climb to come to the the Finishing Line and I think Adam Yates he’s he’s a little bit worried although look at two uphill finishes to come in this race he’s a little bit worried about this final time Trav so I think today with it suiting him the most in the form he’s got at the moment I think he want to try and can gain time so like he said it’s top of the program Adam Yates is the Brookie favorite to win this stage today and indeed the race but plenty of quality rers here that would like to put a stop to that I let’s say zko had a rotten time trial I think he kind of brought himself a bit of space really to do exactly what he’s up to at the moment which is um rattle or codul at just about everybody this Mark Hershey setting Pace by the looks of things his lanter cheeks here looks like he hasn’t quite finished his breakfast hamster stying um looking back through this line here never that far before you get to Litt treack and of course they’ve got The Young Riders classification leader defending Champion here Matty shelo uh as part of their number as well um the options remain the same as yesterday I guess but a few have been shelled out you kind of have to look at how they finished yesterday to kind of gauge really who’s going to be in the frame today there’s a few that suffered and we’ve lost a few good names as well Brian unfortunately due to bumps and bruises yeah we have it was disappointing I think during the stage yesterday I was thinking where’s carapaz where is he he’s normally up here uh unfortunately he did crash as well same with Betty also he isn’t there a bit of Bronco problems for Gary but he isn’t a feature over these days he’s more of a kind of lead out Sprinter type um but yeah it’s sad to see that carapa is not here as we as we all know he crashed out in the first stage of the the toy France last year and you know was looking to build his form towards that so this is a little bit of setback bet on carar for f education easy post um but yeah we’re set for a for a good stage today and it looks very much like the pace of UE team emeres at the front they really want this stage one they do dem ando’s been on patrol duties I think I’m waiting to see if w pole switches on it could happen um didn’t look too bad yesterday all the sensations are good he says I’m hoping for the very best out there a bit tired I was feeling very well during the training but uh since the beginning of the week I’ve um had great sensation so I’m happy how did it go yesterday it was tough um maybe I’ve got a bit carried away with the team at the start of the climb and we were trying to go forward to attack and provoke if you like but good for the confidence at today’s a better stage perhaps to try something I think the climb suits me and Felix go a little bit better if the legs are good then obviously we’ll try something Felix is uh in good shape he’s 10 in the GC so we’ll try and move up a bit in that regard how are the roles divided between you two then well today I’ll really try to make the race tough Fair UA is also very strong I think he so we’ll just have to harden the race to do something but uh I’ll be there to start and help out Felix do you feel any weaknesses there I don’t think there are any weaknesses for them um even if there’s weakness for one of their rers there’s another Rider to back them up they’re very very strong could have put it better um actually Brian they are incredibly strong and UE one and two at the moment Almeida didn’t look overly stressed yesterday because he was able to follow shelm Mo and that’s the story of the race they came here as the strongest team they’re living up to the billing yeah certainly are um I think right from the start they were looking at Yates as the the overall here and you know not only they looking to get something personally out this race themselves because when they go to the to France both Alida and Adam yet it will be all 100% for taddy pater in winning the T France this this year and you think this is a strong team well if you don’t know have a look at the team that they’ve posted up for the TD France this year it’s all about staying safe as well but I think it’s one of the strongest teams I’ve seen um you know with so many you know kind of potential um you know GR winners in that state that team they’ve got going to the T France but this is the toy swis by writing on the front today says to me they they okay Ruby was at 223 but he lost a couple of minutes yesterday and you know the form shown yesterday can he go better today I think not um and so you e team memories we never saw it they had to do a lot of um kind of putting out fires because there’s a lot of top Riders trying to get in that Breakaway and they managed to do that a lot of hard work earlier on now it’s down to the work of uh the boys in white to control this Breakaway and they’re doing a very good job one one and a half minutes I think with keeping them on a short rope um I wouldn’t say they’re too worried about Rubio it’s more a case of keeping a short rope because they want you win the stage with Adam yats agree well I haven’t seen much of the yellow jerse he’s just nursing it at the moment no issues whatsoever he’s just uh he played a very quiet role yesterday I must admit about wheel 20s just hanging around with u the uh Indian grer deers boys at the moment probably shooting the breeze with them let’s see if uh his own team here that are just magnificently pacing everybody looks like a a team Pursuit team at the moment they’re just pursuing glory and there is Adam Yates sharing um few anecdotes perhaps it’s been breathless today actually really quite Pacey considering the climbing that we’ve already done BR yeah he’s back there it’s not quite normal but he’s back there just beside Tom pitcock um maybe uh they don’t understand him in the team um and he wants to go and talk to someone that that they can can understand English but um no they’re all quite fluent English in the pelaton these days going to the times where you know the language used to be French um even when I wrote A jro Italia had to try and search someone that spoke English very few around and when you found that person who could speak English did they understand you no they didn’t they just took my care me Ro ala used to come up and he said Brian come up and and we got to Riders like Eric broen can and these guys and say say something I said what do you mean say something and then we just start laughing you know what I mean because they couldn’t understand me so I was a bit of a kind of unique kind of joke of the pelaton for some of my teammates just to drag them up to some of their friends and and and hear me speak English uh and of course they spoke better English than me so it it just baffles me why I’ve got a a job in uh in commentary well we love you Brian and um you know that there’s a awful lot of affection flying out there on Twitter like to tell Brian how magnificent he is no don’t don’t don’t go there it’s he’s on Twitter Bri Smithy b r i SM SMI t y uh myself C Kirby c a r l t o n k i r b y it’s a joy to have your company um 622 kilm then from home uh it’s a bit of an amble at the moment it’s kind of locked with a breakaway up the road not too much of a threat they’ve got to be careful Breakaway made it yesterday Brian it did by 23 seconds so you won that one um it was a closer than what you thought I think 6 and a half minutes when you thinking yeah nice and easy it wasn’t easy then was it no I in fact I think I said something about five last 500 meters but anyway um you’re just saw cuz you lost but anyway today um s eight all over it isn’t it yeah it has um there may be ambling if you can joining us it looks as if break away went away nice and easy in a pellet on a riding behind it was far from that there was only about 20 Riders left at the top of the first category climb um it was blasted all over the over the place and it come back together and I think you just said there Caron it looks as if they’re just going to ambling along well they’re ambling along now because it was such a tough start and it’s going to be a tough finish yeah exactly I think this is just the Cal before yet another storm maybe kicked up bye senko he’s been incredibly busy today um got himself a Mountain’s Jersey at least for the time being how long he’ll hold on to that is anybody’s guess because Adam y he wins today will do a job Steve Williams has had a good race hasn’t he he’s been loud yeah has good to see him you know what a tremendous year he has you know right the rider of January with he’s winning um the tour down under and Flash will on in that terrible weather just because to show you you can do it in all weathers and you know I think he he really has been of stepped up Stevie Williams but going back to lenko um I think he’d be disappointed he’s he’s lost 15 minutes in this race already I said a couple of days ago that probably lenko is their best bet holding back a little bit thinking of the mountain stages because he’s a he’s a he’s a contender he’s he blown away [Applause] yesterday talking about those who are blowing hot and cold uh here’s onor Rubio Pocket Rocket par exos if you like the look at him pick him up put him in your pocket take him home um he generates an enormous amount of power um 56 kilos um 1 M 64 he’s um he’s hardly the tallest mind you he’s not the smallest either but he always looks quite dimin I think he I think he elects to have a quite a large frame considering his own physical frame bike it’s an oddity really you get some very big Riders Brian that go for smaller frames than than you or I or anybody else would if they were going to go and buy themselves a bike to go enjoying the terrain but um some of the very larger Riders they actually choose small frames deliberately don’t they yeah something times is a better kind of bike handling when you’ve got a slightly smaller bike especially when you’re kind of descending and I think we saw evidence of that when uh maharic had that kind of dropper post you know getting a little bit further down I can remember then David de Cruz went to cuz he was kind of new into kind of cycling he he he didn’t come through the the kind of juvenile Junior ranks he came in a little bit later and he went to the quickstep team and Part F was like you just can’t go downhill so they had to try and teach them and they put him in a slightly smaller bike as well so there is Ways and Means between that but Rubio can you remember Ru in jro Italia a couple of years ago when he upset Thomas de um Ghana was up up there and um ruo wouldn’t work and Thomas gent just sat up allowed um top gner to go away and he eventually won the stage and it was asked afterwards you know why um why just going to set up and and never continued and he said he was just making sure that ruo didn’t win the stage because he wasn’t doing any work so I think one Theory from that is you don’t upset Thomas de I think he’s learned his lesson so he’s working with the front group now yeah exactly yeah uh because he could have won that day quite quite easily I think Rubio was uh was clearly the favorite but yeah Thomas doesn’t take any prisoners um the only thing that he could have done to annoy him even more would be to Nick his bacon Supply when he goes on holiday um um if you’re wondering where all that’s coming from um there was complaints round complaints by uh by one of the French journalists at the toor of France um about all of the camper van that were clogging up the roads and he says um they’re all they’re all Dutch he said uh they they come here they bring their own bacon by that he meant they don’t even get spend money in the cafes and it’s true got a kilo of Their Own bacon per week they just arrive enjoy and go away again Thomas again is a famous um fan of camping going to be hearing from Lenny matinez in a few moments time somebody else I’m I’m kind of waiting for him to burst ever brighter you know like those multiphase rockets that are so beloved of big displays at New Year uh God display going on at the moment vert your eyes Madam um yeah it’s um it’s one of those this is a turn turn granny to the wall moment as David Duffield used to say back in the day uh yeah it’s um phen phenomenal camera not being overly kind there finally is so thankfully um it’s got to go somewhere 57.3 kilometers yeah when is when is Lenny Martinez going to give us that last big phase feel like it’s coming it’s got some great results so far will he shine today let’s find out Len please tell us um how yesterday went it was complicated my legs weren’t good enough to accelerate and uh to be honest I hope my legs are going to be better today than yesterday to move up in the general classification that’s that that’s the goal what analysis can you take from yesterday well I thought I lost more time than I actually did but it’s certainly not a result I expected I’ll do my best to get better results today he so how you feeling this morning yeah not too bad um legs are possibly the same I’m hoping that’s not the case for the whole stage we’ll find out um three nice climbs along the way should be okay uh so what do you think about today’s last climb well it’s a bit better I think the climb it’s it’s going to be steep yesterday we really needed the strength in the legs for the climbs but I think today will be much better for me it is a more even climb today um Brian we were talking yesterday about how there was a a whole sequence of steps all all along the way but particularly in the the big test in the last 35 kmet or so where all the climbs were melded together there was recovery points but we talked about the upset for some Riders who like to set a rhythm and Lenny Martinez is one of those yeah it never really went over 7% yesterday this is um you know up a little bit higher and the average is around about 8% um on this climbing it does go on for over 10 km so we’ve already been up at the steeper side this morning where the all the action happened uh and this Breakaway established itself now we’re going up the easier side but saying that the easier side of a very hard climb is still hard so um U memor still controlling things with Hershey and and it looks as that fiser Black Baron Chini is up there third place that few of the other teammates are kind of drop back to kind of look after the yellow JY a little bit further down but also heard that and graders were riding at the front as well um nice to see bernile up there Pitcock is’s not that far away but yeah I think they’ll be looking to try and get something out this stage today as well what’s Stefan Kung up to he’s Orest he’s he’s trying to get the car up telling everybody he’s taken past he’s just enjoying himself in his home country he is he obviously been fated um yeah Lenny Martinez so far this year um I mean mour um Almar team took that it was in good company as well to Dube went his way the Bez s Catalonia as well he won the youth classification there and leguia was a good kind of opening to the year you won the VAR classic actually in um two days after Valentine’s Day I don’t know why I’m using Valentine’s Day as a as a marker but um did you forget yeah I did actually [Laughter] yeah how did you know that I got berated where’s my chocolate any roses oh sorry uh bit late to nip out to the fuel station now never never to be forgotten again I’m going to keep mentioning it oh dear Brian s me out um 48 hey it’s Father’s Day this weekend it’s um probably payback time let’s wait and see here in the UK I believe there’s a different Father’s Day in the United you know in the in the US they hold a different date uh passing by the six-legged dog Lucky Dog I wonder if the extra two legs um of the AEP Beast that badge they dropped that a few years ago and and everyone where’s the six-legged dog my kids always used to say can we please stop at the six-legged dog for fuel so they brought it back there you go um Hershey well is he going to bring this back what’s his job today Bri well Mr Hy uh his job is purely to to sit in the front and um keep this gap down and and that’s what they’re doing they’re just using two riders for the moment I think it was a hard start for everybody that’s why they’re just quite happy and the break did establish itself it is super strong with lenko Peters ruo St me and Steve Williams but I think anybody that’s in this break today realizing that unfortunately they’ve got a really strong team riding behind and they’re not going to give them much than two minutes can they hang on if they hit the bottom of the clim with a two-minute Advantage all the way to the to the top I think it’s very difficult just kind of focusing on lucenko uh the kazak champion for aana Kazakhstan team I think he was bereted overnight um he couple of days ago I said that he’s probably sitting back and waiting for the mountains and he after a bro tour he looks he looked good you know he’s up there he was actually uh beating some of the riders that are here today uh but I really do think big disappointment 15 minutes down he’s been told get yourself sorted out here get something I don’t think it’s the king of the mountains I think it’s the stage win more than anything get yourself out FR do something about this and that’s why he’s been so animated sometimes um I mean rers respond to different things carrots sticks you know metaphorically I’m talking of course unless you ask you stop at a fuel station ask Sean Kelly to go and get a snack they expecting a minty Magnum and what he comes back with is a bag of carrots that’s not what I meant sure there you go carot thanks mate uh anyway probably cheap minute 52 yeah um I I don’t know how do you deal with somebody like L Sano because he is so mural occasionally he’s genius um you know he can he can Sprint up mountains certainly ramps he can go on the attack he can be quite explosive um and he’s got occasionally as well when he turns his mind to it got a decent time traling set of legs on him as well but you just never know what you’re going to get with him except when it comes to the Tour of France you know that really that is what his main focus is and he often gets top 10 you don’t get top 10 for on a couple of occasions within any career Brian without being a quality item and we don’t see that quality enough from L senko I was surprised yesterday um when it came up in the radio that he was getting dropped before we even had to kind of harder parts of the clim yesterday I was like wow um so you really really had a bad day and you quite often get that when somebody had a bad day they bounce back whether it’s under the um pressure of the the management you got to remember that aan are not ranking well at the moment every point is going to count if they want to can stay in the in World Tour but I think he’s he’s been had a hard talk to um last night this morning he’s been out there flying and I think it just goes to show you that I think yesterday I just think he a really bad day possibly bad legs in me we have from Valentine par pantra there that he didn’t feel so good today and sometimes this happens that you had the mountains the first big mountain you got to remember it was flat for a lot of the stage yesterday flat and fast and they hit that climb your legs are a bit kind of jelly so I think Len on a better day today 50.4 km from home we’re just shy of the 2-minute mark and and shadows sharp today um little bit of very very high Alto Stratus nothing too serious bit of Cubo nimi as well as you can see just at the bottom end of the valley but the chance of rain pretty minimal today um 50ks to home and it feels like the pace is very much picked up I think they’ve got an opportunity to spin the legs out to be fair um once we get to 40 kilometers from home they’re sort of on a gentle climb at the moment they’ll come to a crusty null with about 40ks to go uh there’ll be a bit of impetus then that will bring us down to where the day climbing begins now yesterday we had two categorized climbs that were kind of meshed in with the Sprints and it was all really within the last 36k it’s a closer Affair This Time by um we’ll be 30 km from home by the time the road kicks up properly that will take us to the intermediate Sprints the tiso Sprint is first um those two markers to win yourself a watch then after that there is the points Sprint so the bonus Seconds come in the tisso Sprint then there’s a secondary Sprint which is about uh 17 or 18 km from home and then the climbing really really starts to intensify and today Brian the test is it’s quite a nasty one I think considering the amount of effort that we put into the beginning of the day it’s an entirely other profile isn’t it that we’ve been used to so far this one it’s it bites top and tail with proper climb book ending the day there was a few Riders on turbo trainers this morning not a huge stage today of 147.5 km in length but putting those um two climbs in from the start made it super hard and then you’ve got a long kind of Meandering up and down these valleys until we get to the final climb and everybody just like kind of waiting with anticipation they know what’s coming there’s not a lot they can do about it even the boys from uh EF education easy post um down the back there in the pink jerseys you know they have got not a you know they had the yellow Jersey they they lost caras and Beto yesterday but they have got something to celebrate today and it’s James Shaw’s birthday happy birthday James coming through biasa just have a look over there on the right when you see that looks like a secondary roof doesn’t it over the uh Railway Terminus um it’s actually solar panel and how nice is that use commercial or indeed um Civic buildings to put your solar panels don’t stick them in fields no need anyway there you go it’s just a personal bait Bob um minute 54 it’s reasonably close Gap that we’ve got today and the snow melt still making itself felt here how Charming is that that there was a little plunge pool where you can see Brian Smith and his Speedo singing Alto every July it’s Brian in the uh blue shorts um by the way I don’t hope they don’t hold V and some of these are supposed to be at work yes indeed it does look ABS gorgeous it does yes I’ll take a day off work to do that there you go should we sleap it up to the chapel and just um dip us tootsies uh yes um that water very very cold because it is still snow melt we’re up at the Snow Line yesterday weren’t we uh not quite the same today but um I think it’s just because of the attitude of the mountains you we’ll see a few snow caps along the way but um possibility of snowballs fights possibly slightly diminished there we go pick up you can see what sort of pace they’re coming through when they take those bead on they really slam into them don’t they minute and 52 we got 47 km to go this is that little null I was telling you about the start of it really there’s a couple of little pickups like this that will take us to um well for about the next six or 7 km and they’ve all tipped out which is rather lovely to cheer them all through through lot of work done at the beginning of the day up into that first category one test that we had um we had a category 2 just before that but the first of two climbs up to car that’s our destination today um I thought a danger that IND grenadiers might put too much into it but um they in fact they crossed the big test that we’ve had so far um second third and fourth so they’ve been very much up to the front they’ve called on I think U memores to to do something and they’re sharing the burden at the moment and doing a good job of it I do love a bit of dobbed on Bell work um they do this cuz in the helicopter the pictures that are sent back are actually silent so they put on the rotor so if it’s um it’s a spoiled out for me I was quite enjoying that b ring yeah it’s played in I I always wonder which Bell they they select you know if you were running the sound desk you’d be able to pick anything you want you a big Ben or just like a tinkle tinkle the uh your cream teas ready um just for the hell of it out onto uh Country Roads little ribbon of Asel that we are playing with right right now do you know what Brian I haven’t seen a single poth hold in this race no not at all um I think thinks the same with Germany as well most of the races I’ve ridden there Switzerland is you know maybe Austria U this kind of part of the world not many um not many Road works as well not many holes in the roads well almost uh grinding one at the moment is Brian Kar don’t know quite what his issue were um he’s been he climbed brilliantly yesterday s kept himself up towards the front he might have a sense that he’d like to get engaged for points at the Sprints but I think the pro his problem is that there’s a minute and 38 between the palet of which he is part in that black Jersey and indeed the the intermediate Sprints that are still to come coming back from injury where do you think you’re H now do you think you have some percentage to gain again yeah I I was on altitude the last couple of weeks so I’m actually quite tired this week like uh like coming straight from altitude it’s it’s not like the best preparation but for the bigger goals then it should work well so I think yeah there’s still a few percentage to uh to gain hopefully and was just want asking what will happen today what do you think sorry What scenario for today yeah I think it will be much like yesterday the climbs a bit harder it’s a bit steeper so maybe there’s a little bit bit less tactics involved cuz we didn’t ride so hard yesterday in the final uh I think it’ll be more on the legs today which hopefully can suit me a little bit better well sixth home yesterday for the Kelo Comet uh will they be singing down Kelo way tonight Bri I hope so um can’t believe I wasn’t asked to um interpret that um interview there with Oscar Onley but rather kind of disappointed but I hope everybody understood that kelsh comments yeah I thought he was a k killer well maybe when it comes to a stake or two apparently he’s um uh highly fren us when he needs to be um yeah bass country had a super run Miguel indurain of course third there he’s made us talk about him and it all started on the toor down underr this year he’s been fabulous yeah good stage one um can you remember was it last year was it year before um these old races that we cover can a Miss into one but I think he was battling that out with the vingo and um the croes one year uh getting up there and you know really is um you know doing a good job in Scotland we don’t get too many kind of pro riders getting to the top and it’s nice to see like Sean Flynn and Oscar Onley up there and I hope you know it’s the start of something to come um I really do hope so um and we get you know kind of more pro riders in in the prop pellet and you have to say that similar size of nation Wales have done rather well haven’t they um in the last kind of decade or so um I’m just hoping that over the kind of next decade or more that’s you know we may get to kind of fly the flag as well with some of the the talent that’s coming out of Scotland now very much so um Oscar only when he opened his account this year and Wonga Hill tore down under and there’s some amazing names that were in his wake Finn Fisher black who’s here Del Toro who’s here uh Damen hon who’s here Perry Pano who’s here going to stop saying who’s here now um Jun Philipe who’s not he edged Steve Williams that day as well um underscoring what you were saying the man from abis with Steve Williams Oscar oner superb when he finds his legs he can yesterday was in sixth place and I think did he just say that this climb suits him a lot better than yesterday there’s quite a few writers saying that but um I think he thought it it was maybe a little bit more tactical yesterday it seemed that way nobody was really going to taking control of the race until about 5Ks to go and new memores came up and everybody was going to leaning on three AQ 36.5 and they came up a little bit short with all the effort they put in yesterday um I think Oscar was alluding to it’s not about tactics today it’s just about about the legs this clim um and that can of sort it out so we’re in for a a good final for the moment anyway it’s it’s nice and relaxed it is and absolutely Rock Solid I I don’t think the likes of Adam Yates are indeed the entire UE te Emirates or indeed in this grenad have any fears because there was an initial Breakaway today after the uh the first climb of the day which is a category 2 and then they designed to kill off the Breakaway only lenko stayed out front and quite a few of those who’ been absorbed then went to form the Breakaway again but I think what in his grenades proves themselves is they could blow the candle out whenever they want and I imagine UAE will feel pretty much the same little Trek working for shos who wears the Young Riders Jersey classification white jersey yeah I think they’ll have some fun the longer it goes on like this Brian the better chance that Brian Koka will have of coming up and contesting the intermediate Sprint and we’re not that far away from them actually yeah the the point Sprint is at 14 km to go uh the TSO Sprints come up a little bit earlier today for the first time about 20 I’m not too sure that the the winner of the points competition will come from a sprinter um knowing what’s to come over the next few days um not unless he does a good time TR picks up some points but he is in that black Jersey but a few can uphill finishes to come so you know the the only kind of real stage that the likes up uh Branco car had to win he win it in stage two um and that’s what the the sprinters had to to go on uh the next stage stage three was a little bit harder for some of these kind of Sprinter types but yeah it’s all about um you know climbers and in this race for the next few days and then we come down to the the final uphill time TR it’s yesterday’s winning torsson train um took himself a king of the mountains Jersey as well I don’t know if he’s wearing his tiso watch that he won along the way and he’s got a combativity teac colored it’s actually the label of fizzy wine here um sparkling wine sorry fizzy is what you talk when you’re talking soft drinks and C talking about that TSO watch competition yeah and what happened yesterday um what’s your thoughts on it because there’s a lot of clashes in in competition jerseys and things like that and no one doesn’t go for a white jersey or a king of the mountains Jersey and things like that with the clashes that we have in certain races I you know looked at it scratched my head saw some comments about it and cannot believe that CH procycling gave up the chance of getting on the podium even if it was a a rival watch company there there’s a lot of clashes in different races that we we cover yeah would you think that that’s the case I’m I’m not quite sure team manager said go get yourself in the podium that’s more important than you you know holding a rival watch yeah I don’t think he backed out of it to be honest um I mean it may well be you know we are in Switzerland after all and uh chuda and Tio are very much uh Rivals I think you might say almost at the same price points be a few people saying Tito and chuda are not at the same price points but uh chuda famously are um a uh a division of the Rolex um watch brand which everyone knows um tiso themselves stand alone they’re also the timing for indeed they they offer up the timing for um a lot of bike racing in fact the Olympics as well is tiso timing um there’s been other incarnations of the timekeepers over the years um Omega were there for a long time longine as well used to provide timing for athletics and cycling but yeah I I don’t think that commercial rivalry came into it [Applause] just speculating as to whether or not the tiso timing uh run yesterday was actually contested by those who found themselves up the road in the entoron train it was from Bahrain Victorious but he was he was there up front with Tuda Pro cyclings ronal Talman um and the speculation was on social media that the Tuda procycling Rider did not want to take um a a rival watch company because of uh their own sponsor to be honest I think that torst and train had actually done a lot of work he was starting to get a bit upset and I think had um had there been any kind of skirmish for that watch in that in that Sprint I think um it wouldn’t have been taken very well by tson train who actually not long after that after not getting enough turns just sped off and I think quite frankly that Ronald Talman bless him was just a bit secondhand I don’t think it got anything to do uh with the watch despite the fact that the watch does have a second hand um minute and 44 but yeah nice uh nice conspiracy theory everybody but you know the competitions here are to be gone for would have been interesting I still think there’s something in it because there was no reaction from Talman I really do I I think I was scratching my head afterwards and said he never even made an effort if I was the and realized that he was a stronger Raider the only way I’m going to get in the podium or anything out this stage because he’s so strong is by taking the the second Sprint there and he never even TR and the fact is torson TR never even look behind him um which which I was kind of thought was so bizarre and I think the um the people on X have got something to look at there never that is the case from Team Management I think I personally think that’s poor is an ex team manager iards I would always want to get in the podium first before um before anything else but we’ll pop that up and maybe talk about yellow cards 39.4 so I’m just uh I’m just really enjoying um whoie Madness who’s uh has form himself a protective falank around [Applause] me uh much appreciated mate um president of course the Carl Kirby fan club of the United States um yeah the North American Branch um we’ve also got the um uh the Florida um chairman uh in Tequila donkey uh Mr bright is in um he said I’ve always wanted to fry bacon and onions on one of the corners in Al Duz to drive to drive the climbers crazy actually the smell of breakfast on the campsites is really quite heady um so is the pace and it’s picked up but being matched at the moment they just come over that crusty N I was telling you about uh that they have to go over the top of before they descend for around about 10 km and then so it’ll be um there will be uh an increase in the um vest today until we get to the bottom with 30 km to go for about the next 8ks it’s kind of easy time and then it get starts to get loud Brian it does indeed um next step step up up is the Tel timing Sprints and that comes with the 20.8 to go and I think if this is the case I think the the Breakaway will have their day but I think that’s the only way that they’re going to get on the podium maybe one rider in the case of um lenko um with the king of the mountains but only Adam Ys H can take that off his back and and I think he will by winning the stage taking the points at top of the climb you know Adam could be um you know taking that King of the mountains Jersey so if you want on the podium for anybody in that Breakaway lenko Peter ruil Stan M Williams I think it could be the TSO watch competition because I don’t think they’re going to get much else out of today 95 seconds that’s all the difference we’ve got today we’re on the Lee side of the valley so it is um cool I think it’s fair to say once you get out of the the sunshine everybody at the moment just playing their trade and waiting to go all in late on that’s essentially what is opening up for us Ludo coming through suggestion it’s might be moderately Italian in these parts it’s amazing this this year’s Edition it’s very much a climbers profile you thinking well why do so many fast men come here um basically because with grand Tours to deal with they have to learn to take on the mountains doesn’t matter how good you are as a sprinter it’s a craft you need to learn nice relax Pace to the day um Switzerland Brian the tour of Switzerland was always compared to Roman D over the last decade or so I would say has had fewer clim fewer climbing days Roman was always the uh the mountains race and the tour switzland often used to play with valleys to its detriment really because everyone Tunes in for the tour of Switzerland wanting to see mountains and this year they’ve given us them four days of proper mountains tests of which this is one I think they were trying to kind of cater to kind of different Riders um I think I mentioned a few days ago that Albini territory um he was always a rider that can get over some of the short sharp climbs and you know he’s a kind of was one of the kind of major um Pro bike riders from this part of the world um of course you know looking at you know riders that have got you know up there and I think Kerman leads that competition that’s the the amount of top 10 places in the tour of Switzerland but second place is Michael Matthew so it just goes to show you in the past Michael Matthews I think 24 top 10 performances in the to dis space of course one of the main men that used to come in here was the Slovakian pisan U we used to love them so the uh the organizers have have always kind of kind of catered for um kind a different style of Rider now they they seem to be catering for the climbers this year uh more than anything else so that’s why I think we’ve got kind of back to- back climbs uh in this race only one opportunity and it wasn’t an easy opportunity for for the the sprinters but a good race all the same and like you said we’re in the kind of Italian area uh I think this is m favored area uh from being on site at this at the back there you saw a former Italian Rider uh winner of airo stage cesari Benedetti from trentino area U married a Polish Girl and um taken up um polish residency lovely part of the world well they’ve just uh as you can see um gathered the the grasses that would be straw feed for the cattle later on in the year uh the winter comes almost like ground rush in these parts so a short summer I must say sometimes quite intense in the mountains it does get rather warm on occasion uh short sort of spring and Autumn so you kind of get that um Long Winter short spring reasonable summer very short Autumn and then bang straight back into winter again and they very much welcome it when it comes back it’s just part of the psych I think in these parts of the world I love what they call um people who live high in the mountains in fact I think the last Mountain Hamlet was actually connected uh recently within the last couple of years they used to call them ladder pullers cuz they used to pull up the ladders to stop anyone visiting them in the night as it were 34.2 km from home in in the Italian speaking part of Switzerland and we’re heading for KI kind of sounded as well doesn’t it um short day today but very very sharp both at the top and the tail and it is the sting of the tail today that we are um have great expectations for UE I hope they’re not on a bit of a burn down here I think the fact that it wouldn’t be too much of a danger to be honest because Adam Yates is more than capable of hiding himself within this pelan and then delivering so we’ll see when he decides to go he doesn’t usually take anyone with him um yeah we’ll see what he does for Del Bacha of course when we get to the ground booklet itself but here he’s allowed to help himself and yesterday he did he’s solidly in that yellow Jersey and possibly will be even more so at the end of today it’s toson train who’s um just uh applying his trade at the back he’s got that King of the mountains Jersey he’ll be handing that over in fact he already has done because let’s say that senko who who’s in the break has more points than he and here we are we continue to sail through I was just mentioning that um some of the Hamlet very very high in the Alps um they used to actually just withdraw the ladders pull the ladders up in the nighttime and you just couldn’t access the places um it was their way of sort of having Village security and I think the last major settlement and by Major settlement I’m talking hamlets more than let’s say 10 houses um was actually connected very very recently so yeah the old dream of um just becoming something of a Hermit um in a BNB it’s all over you can still be visited by the Emergency Services which is exactly what you want to be honest you know a Hermitage is one thing but um you know got a bit of a cough you want you want servicing um minute and 43 it’s expanded just a little bit our Breakaway let’s talk about this Breakaway we haven’t seen hide and a hair of them quite some time we’ve been dwelling on the pursuit um it looks like we’re going to get downstairs and have a look at them right now have we thinned down or is there still five there I can’t quite see it screened by the motorcycle Alex lenko we’ve been bemoaning the fact that he’s been quite off color but we also said you know watch him because he he always comes very good when it comes to tour to France Nan Peters Brian good man to have in a situation such as this he’s a stage winner of the tour to France um as well andir daania um done well in the grand pimonte bit of a quiet year I think it’s fair to say 30 years of age he’s he’s part of the back room staff and would be help there to help out I think today Perry P or indeed Felix gal if he’s called on to do so yeah I’m a fan of no Peters he actually kind of drop um drop down didn’t he um a level last year and then came back back step forward yeah so no real surprised that he kind of started and I remember beses when he was riding there and and I thought he was just trying to get breakaways he was trying to get the condition back again at riding you know a higher level again but I commentated on the uh one of the races at the end of the year last year which uh Johanna stone m um I think won his first race uh for basan Lisa bik he can Sprint well um but in that race he won at solo you’ve already mentioned Leno Rubio well didn’t he upset everybody last year in the UE Tour by by winning um the uphill challenge that it was and Stevie Williams well he has been one of the men of the Year hasn’t he um down under and Flash rone and the likes so I think really that this is a real strong Breakaway there’s only five of them um on these roads it’s very difficult unless you can have going flat out very difficult to get a bigger Gap than they have of kind of two minutes purely because U Emirates are quite happy sitting at the front and and controlling it and we said right from the start of the program that one things for sure is Adam yet is not happy leading this race by 26 seconds he’s already thinking about the final time TR um he’s worried about skel M skel M leading the best Young Riders competition that’s why he’s not get the Danish kit on today um the Danish Champions Jersey so keep an eye on out for scal cuz he’ll know and I think if this suits Adam today I think it it suits scal Mo as well today going back to your plunge pool Brian yeah I think there’s been a complaint from um someone we mentioned that maybe there’s a couple of people here that maybe should be at work and they going back to to double check yeah they’ve they’ve left they’ve thought we’ve been spotted and they’ve gone so there’s only two left about five or six of them but when you spotted in camera there’s not a lot you can do back to what they went they got the phone call didn’t get chance for the uh the warning they usually issue at The Crucible theater in the snooker which is cameras are about to go live if there’s uh anybody you’re sitting next to that you shouldn’t be sitting next to Now’s the Time to move yeah no was a case off the the helicopter pilot has had to call I think we saw Hines there just up at that plunge pill there can you go back and check and he’s disappeared so he’s um he’s obviously not going to get sacked now because there’s no confirmation I see a double checking I Rubio when he won his stage 13 unlucky for a few it was uh last year on the sh Italian a crown Montana it was um it was a strange one because um that was one of those shortened days wasn’t it because of in Clement weather tunnel closing as well yeah I think only they only ran about 75 k Meers that day um but yes nonetheless he’s got himself a year Italian stage win to his name whether he’ll get one today very very very slim chance um yesterday I went for the Breakaway a success we just about got there thank goodness and um we’re going to have a little bit of archive here Brian yeah in a little bit um we’re going to play in um something from the Ty [Applause] so 2016 this stage of the tour of Switzerland and they certainly knew how to ride it back then Brian always great to see BMC represented they’ve been uh ever aart of this race and in 2016 they they made a big noise yeah it did Columbia’s always good climbers at a puma here right for BMC took the took the Victory and you know everybody was going to left in their wake by then but yeah what a a good finish there but Colombians today could be now be the next one up here in carry we’ll have to kind of wait and see but yeah this was the last time we were up here um a good win for the Colombians but I think it’s going to be either a Brit win today or potentially a Danish win today 4 seconds clear at opponent from Warren bargee and 7 Seconds down to Pier L tour uh the entire top 10 then were within 16 seconds of uh the Colombian who came home for his victory um it might be something similar today but the way Adam Yates is going I think he’d possibly find even more than 10 seconds uh the way he went yesterday he kind of fried the field is HE capable of doing it again to day was I guess hiding in full view he is Brian but his Ambitions to do it yeah they had it from restarting he’s he’s interview first and foremost last day’s time trial so and he said this suits him better than yesterday and he was absolutely flying yesterday worried about those cobbles don’t know why cuz he flew over them that speed when he went went past Talman was was incredible um but yeah this SS some better and I’m pretty sure that he wants to gain more time today and then for the Maybe maybe in the next couple of days maybe can I follow a little bit slightly disappointed he never got that stage when to boot but you can’t take that away from train bods well for adam8 today as we fly past Bodo and again there are the solar panels on the municipal building can you please stop putting them in fields which are perfectly serviceable for other things maybe the farmers are getting a lot a little bit of Kickback from that I’m sure they are but um yeah I mean the whole solar panel thing it’s it it annoys the hell out me I love it when they are I love the fact that they exist and but when they’re properly used it’s a joy so is this to see they’ve decided to kick on here Brian they mean this Breakaway Victory yesterday and and quite frankly I think they’d like to see that repeated today and you got to admire that it’s uh a good kick on here n Peters just exchanging here with Steve Williams who looks nice and relaxed I must say lenko just taking a toot at the back the Kazakhstan Champion he’s got the king of the mountains Jersey just waiting to collect that later today unless of course Adam yankes comes through wins the day which you’re expecting him to do and then he’ll be more than the handsome leader within that competition um they’ve worked well together but the Gap has come down despite their um the extra impetus the chase is fully invoked it’s now down to a minute 19 BR yeah it’s been a difficult stage it’s one of these stages shortish um some hard climb some hard racing at the start and then a lot of these you know flattish valley roads where you know the Breakaway has to to keep the pressure on the legs and you know we finish uphill so I think it’s a real kind of hard day for these guys in the Breakaway for the guys in the pelor and everybody with that tough start kind of middle you know the legs start to kind of fall asleep a little bit and then it’s it’s time to to to climb pretty soon as well so I think this is a a a a difficult day to to adjust to because you’ve got that very difficult start and then you’ve got this kind of I wouldn’t say lazy but I’m a bit more relaxed um you know two thirds of the stage in the middle there and then you’ve got the final third which is I think another kind of very difficult so you have to kind of switch on again so it’s very difficult to to maneuver through this stage it is well at the moment U are they it’s hard to say they’re doing too much because adom H looked just so comfortable but um I was fearful I must admit when in inced ears were doing so much of the chasing earlier on it looked like they got no help whatsoever we’ve seen lots of teams burn down I guess you were talking about looking for condition as well Brian and this is the perfect opportunity to do that if you’re wanting condition the best place to do it is on the front of the Pelon for your for your team and that gives you great condition instead of kind of fallowing in the wheels and you know what we’re seeing at the moment it’s just two writers it’s um Fisher black and uh hu um that’s on the front so they’ve only used two two Riders and it’s a little bit this terrain is a little bit easier to use just going of two Riders and if put a lot you know a couple of we stiff leg breakers on it that would be tough for the riders that are riding but they can just ride it a steady hard Tempo and keep this Gap at 2 minutes even coming down now to near that minute Mark such as the respect that they’ve got for the riders that are in front minute 11 and you can see a few Riders just getting out of the saddle occasionally and we Are Climbing our Breakaway we’ll be doing a little bit more than that and percentages despite the fact we’ve got a railway line here uh just starting to pick up now we are dealing with what 4% that kind of thing um Swiss trains you can probably see a little finic um assist at the side of the track they they um indeed can get up better gradients than most other train Services have to with all the mountains uh maximum gradient in the next few kilometers here they’re going to be hitting sort of 8% before we even get um to our intermediate Sprints it be a tiso Sprint first the point Sprint that comes after that is on a slightly flatter section um but it starts to get a little bit more testy from now on in I’m afraid for everyone who may be not hoping for that talta is leading the push for visma Lisa bik and here is M Star at the moment lost n kintana at the beginning of this race um that’s a shame really enrik Mass waiting to see him go loud and I Rubio likewise not quite sure what they’re going to offer up today um Edgar Oscar Onley Oscar likes to use his middle name but yeah spoke to him at the beginning of the day some of you may well have heard that looks nice and relaxed and had a good finish yesterday so he could be one of those I think that may have some hopes if there are any of the GC guys that are let’s let’s have a scenario shall we Adam Yates goes off up the road the GC Men start to look at each other and then someone like Onley comes through and says well if you don’t want it I’ll take it myself and gets himself a very good finish Podium finish potentially today good each way bat but um Adam Yates expected to dominate it looks very much like Italy doesn’t it J N it does talking about Oscar onl in hway bets he was uh 75 to1 yesterday um so he was close but no cigar um but yeah again another good performance today and you never know I think he odds would have been a lot shorter today than yesterday I’m certain I it um he actually said today suits him a lot better was a bit too tactical yesterday not that he’s no not that he can’t cope with tactics it’s just that when other people’s tactics are getting in the way it’s it can be a bit crowded um it thinned out yesterday towards the end and I expect it’ll do so again today we we’ve had the hardest climb already though Brian haven’t we yeah we have um the other side of carry but we’re just getting set for this T timing uh Sprints and the fastest guy in this fast if fan break is the man for visar ele so the question is does Johannes Stan mitt want himself a tiso watch CU that’s what’s up for grabs also time bonuses I’ll give you that uh but they are of little import to those who are in the break best place of them is R uh AA Rubio at 2 minutes and 23 so watch the man in yellow um he’s the one that wants to take home the watch at the end of the day normally when you get prize money um it’s only toss it up at the end of the year and that can be diminished by the the costs that the team impose on you um it can end up getting a bill for things like tires if you’re not careful was in the small print Did you not not know that um but you know if you win a tiso watch you’re going to keep a tiso watch so can’t really divy that up so it’s worth having 22 km from home and that intermediate Sprint is indeed starting to loom as we speak I just don’t think anybody’s really interested in in the watch here um all the seconds all the seconds no no use the fastest is the man in yellow from Vis Lisa B the the young um Norwegian Rider and I think he would be the kind of main interest everybody else I don’t think really kind of cares about it so I don’t think we’ll get much as we’ve seen over the the last few days in the T Sprint competition a speculation yesterday that um the rider from Tuda procycling was in the break uh didn’t want to get engaged in the TSO Sprint for commercial reasons to rather watch companies dter antism um I actually just believe that Ron Talman um didn’t really want to annoy TOs and train any further after sitting on his wheel for quite some time by uh nicking that but you know um many of you have been talking about it so we mentioned it still talking about uh via San gardo yeah um Judah of course um faan canela’s Team B yeah know it’s great to see them coming into the sport and faan can managed to to encourage them to come in you know we we encourage kind of big sponsors like that and you know they’ve got big Ambitions they’ve signed some big Raiders this year um you know they went to the jro Italia the first uh Grand Tour and yeah look um I’ll take take any big sponsors that are are looking to come into cycling because we don’t often get uh you know sponsors of Laing a knocking at our door there we are um St M quickest man here goes to the front uh just double checking over his shoulders here’s your first of the intermediate sprits anyone else fancy it I think they’re all just pacing up because they wanted to just stay together yeah St it rolls off oh hello Rubio Rubio is having a look I want to I want to I want to watch you kidding me aren you he says first phase of the tiso Sprint has been de dealt with and St M it from the breakway just rolled off the front uh didn’t think he’d have to Sprint for it and then an Rubio made him do so um let’s see the result of the second phase of this which will come up rather quickly bro well of of the five I would say Rubio was that you know got the slowest of the the Sprints but um a bit of a strange one there that St me to having a conversation now no come what are you doing like come on I’m a young man I’m I’m just learning to tell the time myself give me a chance give me a new watch Rubio fanes a watch it’s as simple as that the tenko’s coming up to tell him to calm it down because if this breakway is going to make it all the way home and he’s got a chance of stage win they all need to work together so he’s doing that diplomatic thing um with an advantage it’s a steel hand in a in a velvet glove that’s what he’s um wielding at the moment so yeah he’s telling him to calm it down don’t kill off the Breakaway just for a watch Brian exactly that save everything combined together try and help I know we’ve just got over a minute but the only way we can you know try and survive is is far into the stage as POS much as possible byse it’s working together not sprinting for watches sounds like a head Master doesn’t it now we know who’s to blame we know their names you do too going for it again he’s on the wheel he’s going to try and Nick it St M it’s really going to have to work for this watch Rubio once oh chops him on the inside this is fantastic St are you kidding me and this is fantastic loving this St M oh hello it’s getting a bit edgy now uh just a little bit of a close down um oh he closed him down chopped him yeah exactly on the barriers wellow if you want it that much have you watch goodness me well st’s not going to be happy about this at all rud Rubio really really really wanted that watch that was a bit dangerous that Brian yeah maybe looked a little bit close that the commer was there um I don’t think they worri too much stor M was just you never gestated or anything he just you know slightly more uphill this one less of a Sprint but I think you’ve just killed off the Breakaway there well it was for atisa watch and now Rubio gets [Laughter] it Zeno’s coming up now saying look try and not be annoyed about it okay let he get on his wheel um well if it is going to fracture lenko doesn’t want Rubio going off up the road um he’s prepared to share duties with him not quite sure what Rubio well he’s got himself a watch but was it worth it Brian well that that’s the only reason are going to get in the podium isn’t it today um I think we’re looking for more for mass and um are we going to see it today I think we have to I think that mass is probably is in with a shout today this climb suits him a little bit more than yesterday and building up to the the T France but yeah I think he may he may have done that himself I don’t think for one reason that um you know the team cars told them to to really kind of make that big effort just just to to get a watch there there but maybe he wanted one for his collection I don’t know maybe he did um yes so Anor Rubio presumably ultimately we’ll be working for enri mass as Brian was alluding to uh good team actually with nson Olivera arus Johan yobs is there as well who was very busy on the opening day actually yobs um not the time trial but the opening day proper stage two here we are at the back with 90.3 km to go if it’s going to kickoff Brian it’s going to have to be soon I don’t think it will I think they’ll they’ll wait um until possibly maybe again did I say it yesterday was about 5Ks to go should be round about that this is the man we talked to earlier on in the day never had good legs yesterday sitting at the back now I know there’s still a little bit to go to we we had the the the last climb of the day brilliant start of the Year great performances um made me smile when he nipped the hot bar racer away from Johannes johanneson um cuz he went for the wrong line but he had some good wins um really A Gifted climber but sitting at the back at the moment maybe it’s not the place to be maybe he isn’t feeling as good for the second day in the as well um number 61 here um just standing by yonir um yeah he said that yesterday um we asked him to describe his day and um he said he had a really rotten day um and basically whenever he has a bad day like that he just tries to to to bin it in his mind forget about it and move on and there’s a certain maturity about that Brian it some some Riders get very cresten by performances and it kind of sticks with them for a couple of days but yanis Ziri he can have bad days and then suddenly he just picks it back up and um he looks like a different Rider I’m not quite sure whether he’s going to achieve that today is it too deep into his career to suddenly switch like that iess is very much like that when you have a bad day you start to kind of question yourself the next day because at some stage today you’re going to have some feelings in the legs and you think oh the bad day yesterday is this this mean I’m going to have a bad day today and you start taking a question thing and even in the the new um Netflix series uh of Unchained you know you saw Tom pitcock uh in the in the states last year in in the bass country starting to doubt himself and and Steve saying look it’s you know just pick yourself up and you know go for it again don’t don’t worry about it you know and you’re talking nonsense about certain things um I’ve worked with Steve in in the past a lot of bik riders think too much and sometimes they just have to kind of listen listen to you know the sports director and and and really dig deep um but his his mind games and since it start of this stage today we at a long period of about an hour and a half in this kind of valley with this climb at the end you start questioning yourself and we hear after afterwards in the in the interviews oh I didn’t feel too good I think we had for me Hatter off just didn’t feel too good but by the end I felt okay that says to me he was thinking too much during the stage because he’s enough time but then when you get into it in the adrenaline starts thinking you’re thinking more of what’s happened in the race than what’s happened in the so um the psychological element of our sport is huge and I don’t think we we do enough to kind of look at that I think maybe over the last few years we we start toing of look at it and there’s a I know there’s a lot of kind of AI intelligence um in an app called M bank that U you know kind of people look at having your digital twin and and dealing with these things yourself a lot of bik riders a lot of professional athletes when you say like go and speak to the psychiatrist in a team they don’t want to um they feel as if they don’t need it they do everybody needs someone to talk to in a in a team and that’s why as a kind an ex-manager you have to kind of encourage that ask get the Riders to talk be open but at the same time when you’re suffering you have to remember everybody else’s too exactly that good effort here by n Peters to stay with it Steve Williams just not with this quartet at the moment as you can see in fact here he is Steve Williams tagged uh probably wisdom actually um being displayed here he’s just ebbed back into the pack and indeed he’ll be part of the push a little bit later on possibly for George Bennett let’s wait and see that’ be nice to see George had some spectacular results on this kind of terrain in the past um can indeed really turn it on Adam Yates is on the blower he’s uh calling for uh indeed Pace or indeed putting an order in for uh beon and jails to be collected um May well take one himself don’t know whether they managed to get Tim serviced four up front then Steve Williams has gone back to the pelan they are sitting at a minute and a half right now um I don’t think I I I think that was by design by Steve Williams it wasn’t he ran out of legs you just thought um this is now not going to happen as far as the Breakaway is concerned I may as well conern energy yeah completely that 100% um it’s not he didn’t have the legs he looked okay today a little bit easier in the in the Canali here just to roll through with the Breakaway but I think um there’s another two stages coming up that may suit Steve Williams and he’s thinking it’s not going to be today well I’m I’m just going to save that energy and think of another day wise very wise so he is now being reabsorbed leaving star MIT here is slightly grumpy not getting a uh um a tisso watch um Rubio who’s very happy he has got a tisso watch um just behind him Alexi lenko the Kazakhstan champion and just being screened from us at the moment Nan Peters a looming figure of Nan Peters Steve Williams went back to the pack still Hershey it’s almost been Hershey against the break today he’s done such a lot of work he has I’m just looking at no Peters he’s on his last legs he’s shaking the heads is done me take him back there and he was just like going no no no no and uh you know that head nod at the back he’s just hanging on to the bre me say had look back and then just uh had a chuckle last time I saw a head like that was in the back of a car and it was an insurance company’s dog oh yes um here we go they’re spreading wide which tells you that the pace isn’t at it absolute highest here uh this suggests a transition they all want to look into um the turn onto the mountain been through the intermediate Sprint it was down M they took it so an accord settling over the group uh the watch goes to Rubio uh the points go to sted um there is Adam Yates he’s now with his team he’s just drifted up having a very uh brief word here to sha Alida who sits in front of him um Almeida is indeed nearest man to him overall in the classification they’re one and two at the moment moment but uh shares that margin overall that uh uh that deficit in the standings 26 seconds back to shos who wears the young rers Jersey it’s the white jersey today for uh little Trek Mountain’s man is toson train that’s if lenko doesn’t win the day lenko actually has the lead in this competition by a single point he’s on 19 points after today having taken 18 point points along the way he won the both the category 2 and one climbs that were at the start of the day and he’s now got ambition to finish off the job I think the stage win would be more appropriate really as his Target I think oh Point Sprint is here there is the old the old um black Jersey Sprint apologies I’m not quite sure then what that Mark was it could well have been um 20K too who knows 14.5 is what remains as they come through the uh the points print pure this is for the black Jersey how many uh crumbs of points will be remained after four go through Brian um I think it is without looking up I think it’s only four um St M takes the the 10 points we see it kind of flashing up on our screen I was just looking at a message from old mechanic rooster uh Bob Rous and he reminded me no it’s in the three places 10 six and four and reminded me that um when I first joined a team that he was a mechanic for um I told him to do something to my bike and he didn’t understand what was [Music] saying you yeah well you know it I could say that to Bob H me over the head growl and point uh yes 10 six and three at the intermediate Sprint um more points available um 12 8 64 and 2 at the line so no crumbs left I’m afraid not even the solitary point for the likes of Rion Koka who is in that black Jersey at the moment just wondering where Stan MIT is within this competition and um well he’s just got 10 points so that’s it yeah he’s going to be up into sixth place worth having here’s the pack not that far in the re and with only 13.6 km to go this is about getting yourself into color order and that are EX exactly that so your helpers need to be where they are um doing much of the driving today for indas grenadiers was um Ethan hater so his job’s now been done so now he’s got every right to go to the back of the P I think if indeed he’s already off the hook as you can see still uat merits and still Mark Hy doing a job minute and four he’s done a fantastic job because he basically closed him down here’s the transition that they’ve all been waiting and racing for they’re going to come off this highway and start to get themselves onto a more gy Road still going to have to wait for it uh possibly one of the worst roads I’ve seen in Switzerland actually um obviously not overly used here it’s one of these concrete laad sections anyway in slabs I mean why not just take the train indeed there’s the proper Highway on the left hand side 54 seconds now Brian tumbled under a minute for the first time in some sometime yeah from that shot there you can see the all four of the Breakaway out the saddle which just goes to show you that it looks flat from where we are but obviously um a bit of um uphill part and we often see this I think you know over the last five six years everybody has been told bring your leader up before the climb of course you know being involved with sell test team there’s a rider there ker sastro that didn’t want any of that he was quite prepared to just go into the clim as relaxed as possible and and pick his way through in the first few kilometers but it seems to be nowadays that everybody has to be at the front um and that’s the way that the sports directors want it and just look at the fracturing now of U team Emirates one man left standing is it Del Toro with uh um am Madea also up here but um just seeing Adam Yates who’s just at the moment looks so cool full car and collected Shel Mo’s just on his uh just up ahead of him slightly ahead of him on to his left hand side but yeah it’s had a filtering process so far onley’s well placed likewise he’s got a man guiding him at the moment to L actually putting in a big old turn for him I don’t think it’s a cenal c to be right at the front on these type of climbs it’s big roads there’s plenty of time to kind of move up still 12.4 to go to the finish the main climb hasn’t started but we do always get this battle to move up and sometimes Adam us has moved back a little bit just as I said that little anecdote before about kis sastra sometimes a little bit easier for your your main leader just to relax into a climb it’s the same as you know getting to the the end for a Sprint final all this stress and things that before a climb just gets to some Riders and it’s a little bit easier to relax a little bit well no rest of the wicked I guess you might say I don’t know what they’ve done but uh they are about to be wound in here 21 seconds is the advantage a little bit of freewheeling going on as you can see from Alex zenko don’t think he’s got any more kick room although he only had a margin of six or seven seconds over the category one climb earlier on today and he extended that and indeed pushed it back out in the company of others that came to join him into a substantial Gap 12 kilom to go then so let’s um tune into carry shall We There is a rest bite Zone just before the end but there some nasty percentages that they’ve got to deal with in fact they we kicking up to 11 and 12% in places um usually on some of the lass some of the hair pins that we’ve got as they make this transition onto a slightly narrower Road as you can see and here come the pack and they’re not all going to fit in with that kind of width so first in best out I think it’s fair to say so they take best foot forward and grenadiers almost instinctively get themselves through obstacles such as that extraordinarily well and they’ve done it uh there’s the Breakaway lenko is just about to be absorbed by the looks of things not quite sure who’s going to be Last Man Standing lutsenko should have the competitivity award for today small crumbs really for him I think he was hoping for a stage win from a break which is what we had yesterday so he’s tagged Rubio will be uh next by the look of him in fact no here he is uh out front and still making a news to himself it’s stands Peters who’s about to be caught then St mitted and Rubio is he thinks going to kick on here 7 Seconds only it’s um small beans and indeed here come the pack around the corner he’s just exited so 11.5 km from home it looks to be all about Adam Yates but I think he’s going to have more Sterling opposition today they all know what to expect from Adam Yates and there’ll be quite a few teams that are out to new neutralize him or at least that challenge BR let’s see who takes it on from the pelum for the moment anyway it looks as if it’s any ideas they did a b riding earlier on today um trying to get a rider in the breakway trying to to control things and and that’s what they’re trying to do today so they’re clearly wanting to get something out out the the stage today um maybe can I move up in a general classification with with be now um maybe try and get that kind of stage one but for the moment it’s in his gr a um Can ofly the trade at front of the pelaton I think you et memor are quite happy just to kind of sit back at the moment and and see what happens further up this claim it’s going to be thin down I’m not sure it’ll be quite as thin as it was yesterday I don’t think Adam will be finishing on his own but um who’s going to go with him that’s the big question there quite a few who believe they can um it’s not as um disruptive this climb it does have one step within it but we have 16 yesterday didn’t win the last 20 odd kilometers um well we’ve got 10 kilm to deal with it’s pretty smooth I must say save for about 4 kilm to go with a little Plateau before it kicks again good work by Inus grenadiers they buried themselves today if education easy post parking up the disappointment I think it’s fair to say of uh losing Richard carass and Alberto bettiol R cost to doing a little bit toss and train I think calling for a drink is that what it was or was it just saying I’m goodbye there we are chow chow seems in good in good spirits uh yesterday’s stage winner will be handing over the um mountains Jersey tell you who’s gone very well into this climb is Brian kooka um he led his team principal as best as he could here bokar doing the last little bit of work for yon zir who they hope would produce something today there a few waves goodbye being issued here BR yeah I think Stephen Kong’s been uh orchestrating all day with these waves um a lot of riders been uh distanced out the back already um it’s one of these things when you’ve had the hard starts of the stage and then kind of most of the stage has been on kind of quick roads you know the average that we’ve had today is about 42 then you had to climb at the end and old jelly legs come out um so a lot of riders out the back now thinging out but no real Pace about it at the front and his graders did take it on U now coming up slowly it was a kind of gradual take over um they didn’t really kind of worry too much about really kind of fighting with the others to get good position and now they come onto the climb now that they can move into the position of course coming onto the climb especially when you got a town like that a couple of corners um you always risk a little bit if someone crashes but they’ve got themselves there um and they’re quite happy just to set a good Tempo but any good end got four Riders right up there towards the front now well at the moment Yan Christen sing the pace there is Adam Yates he’s just embedded so he sits in front of Tom pitcock who’s going to follow his wheel um that’s a good choice actually Tom bedcock today for somebody who um he he kind of rocks and rolls on the bike a little a little bit he looks more discomfort he displays more discomfort perhaps um than maybe he’s suffering few others are tal has done a lot of the approach work on behalf of Chan ooks and uh indeed Wilco kelman STM it his teammate was in the break let’s see what U good kelman didn’t look too shabby yesterday either but in his grenadiers they’re happy to be embedded here if education as well but still and this is a breakdown Pace that they want to set Adam Yates has called for this make it as tough as possible because he’s clearly feeling absolutely magnificent our leader yeah just set a good Tempo I don’t think he he wants to be attacked talking about wo Kerman of Vis leer bike he was the one that um rode into Del Toro uh who hit the ground yesterday um but he got himself back up you know they they had that kind of tangle of bikes and it took them a while to untangle them but Willman is actually looking strong in this race they’ve got Ben CH as well to to look after UT Brook so you know they’ve got some options they really are almost catching the camera bike here um as you can hear from uh its motor perhaps on your effect mic we’re certainly getting it and it’s got a little bit selective hasn’t it there’s a uh there’s a group here with a string of riders who are just being uh tagged off for the time being I’d say about 40 riders with um who are can still count themselves as part of that front group but others really struggling to stay with it Brian this is a a magnification of the pace that’s being set out front this is outstanding by U showing their strength yeah I really do think this will really break up um there was talked yesterday George Bennett saying maybe 20 Raiders will come to the finish together I don’t think I think it will explode towards the end um just wait until um the yellow Jersey of Adam Yates attack see who can go with him I think there will be a reaction there there was a kind of less of reaction when he attacked yesterday um Oscar rley couldn’t do it everybody couldn’t do it scale couldn’t do it but I think that there’ve been an immediate reaction today um but it’s hard to see past Adam Yates but I think this will th thin down quite considerably vula not happy at all I think it would have had to been a breakaway if he was going to have some victory today but um off the back of the front group and um showing not a little discomfort and Barry bantra who spoke to him at the beginning of the day and he was kind of giving us a watch this space and he’s riding with vocal off the back it’s had a big cost this pace Brian already I think it’s the effect that he’s had coming out a very successful jro Italia maybe backed off a little bit it’s taken him a while to get good feeling in his legs yesterday he felt okay not brilliant he said right we’ll see how it feels today I might have a go for it but more importantly it’s about looking after fix goal and the Rubio well sails round here it’s um it’s got some juices that watch is we down emotionally perhaps here a s well the days of us um cheering him home sort of getting it thinner on the ground now uh 8.7 kilm still a very good Rider but 8.7 km to go some very good Riders have found themselves struggling at the moment and it is that thinning downam process that you’re seeing and it’s courtesy of the pace that’s being imposed by U memat it is C is staying with it doing a a good Tempo job but all this is doing at the moment is guiding Adam Yates into launch position isn’t it Brian it is it’s actually helping you et memores but I can I can understand they’ve got their job to do they want to set a strong Tempo you know they’re looking at ber now potentially pitcock to try and get a result out today hopefully they feeling a little bit better but you have to think of your tactics irrelevant of you know what’s happening roundabout and you never know if you allowed just U member it’s just to control things you don’t want to be kicking yourself after the stage thinking we should have taken it on because they were really suffering you know you can see towards the uh the back there that you know they’re not all up towards the front you’ve got uh deloro just kind of hanging around the back of this group so maybe U Emirates are are feeling it a little bit and when they are like that you have to kind of test them out out of the sadle stamping uh Oscar Rodriguez at the moment just tucking behind him Brandon Rivera and there is Egan Bernal number 104 is Tom Pitcock as well he’s been absolutely locked laser likee onto the back wheel of Adam Yates for quite some time pad arti having a good run I must admit Damon hon would go deeper into this one today just coming up as well in the pink here uh ruy Costa um just trying to pick out for you walk poles I think he did he just come through there um little bit of bouts here from um Lopez of Jan Christian G right you’ve got did a job at the nose Y and ala towards the front um and then you’ve only got deloro kind of hanging around the back so it’s not dominant by U memat and they don’t have the numbers to take it on I think they burned down their numbers one after the other it’s what Peter Sagan at this race used to demand of his team that they basically set an intolerable pace and then he just go and do the job himself didn’t really need anyone to lead him um at any point it seemed he he’d rather be free to follow others I’m just wondering whether that is the mood is a move Brian yeah it’s a good good move there um q36.5 badat they didn’t get nothing out of yesterday trying again today uh Riello um the American from Israel Premier Tech so it just goes to show you that the pace is strong but not fast enough uh allowing these two Riders to to think about going on the attack a lot of looking around but any is setting a good Tempo but just as we mentioned Del Toro he’s trying to kind of move up a little bit um to the the front he’s the right on the left hand side they have to kind of show uh strength but and he’s got still four riders in this group at the front it’s getting very labor out there r t struggled yesterday just started to hit him late here as well here we go 7.6 km of the day remaining let’s tell you what we still have to get through shall we um the steepest section this is one of them by the way that they just come by there’s another 10% coming up this is uh nice work from the American Brian he’s got perhaps a little bit of leash here he may well indeed have um more his disposal and he thinks good move well he’s not a real danger is he in in the general classification and you know started the day at uh 125 um he was always a Raider I think George Bennett mentioned him yesterday that we have got options we Stevie Williams we get rickell myself and from speaking with George Bennett I think they really interested I think I’m not saying they’re desperate they they really want to get something out this race and a stage one is up for grabs didn’t quite catch who that was from in SC is but saw Ethan hater earlier on just uh having done a lot of the pacing work just off the back and this is now thinned down to what 15 18 Riders but rookie has gone off the front and badil has been reabsorbed not being allowed too much headro because in his grenadiers want as Brian says to get something out of the race if they chase this down this helps Adam Yates um he’s out of teammates just about and he’s uh just bouncing staying very attentive just towards the front of this group looking further back amongst them just seeing who’s struggling to stay on or stay um relevant for the for the run home um no launch just yet but let’s see it feels like it’s coming Brian yeah well don’t tell he was lingering around the back now he’s moved up towards the front uh with Adam Yates and ala on the wheel so I think just a a a moment of um shows required here cuz they were looking a little bit weaker they weren’t looking as dominant um uh Rodriguez was the rer from inad that didn’t did it work they had four now they’ve got three so they didn’t want the other teams to kind of dominate so Doro has come to the front now he’s leading uh the yellow Jersey ala there’s three of them um and this is you know a little bit more of a show but they’ve only got three Raiders left and 6.7 to go still a significant amount of kilometers to go to to the top of this climb and it doesn’t ease at all it goes up at this sort of kind of gradient and like you say it’s kind of thinning out to rather quickly um it does flatten briefly around 4 km to go and then it kicks again so it gets deep once more just in advance of that uh we hit 10 % once again and in fact rather soon in fact we’re on it right now uh 10 seeding down to 9 s and then it will flatten out with for about 500 M from the 4K marker so if you can cope with the climbing for the next 2 and A2 kilomet you will get some rest bite and then go again I think the attack if it’s going to come will be just in advance of that possibly in about 500 M time um because you can carry yourself through 500 MERS of flat before going again you don’t want to leave it to that very last section and Adam Yates has been dictating the pace albeit from within the pack he’s done a Captain Kirk job hasn’t he uh just calling for more power and um yeah he’s got it when he’s needed it and just look at him he’s like a coil spring bran he has such great core strength as well he when you look at him right now the only moving parts are the ones that have to everything else is absolutely Rock Solid well when everybody’s on the wheel like they are now there’s no bunching up uh I think he’s called for a little bit more Pace purely because you know these attacks were coming and he doesn’t want that he doesn’t want bad LA and Riel and these guys to to start the attacks he wants a good Pace there almea just went up to deloro there and says how are you uh we need to keep a strong Pace this isn’t strong enough um and it’s now taking over so I think Al made a show yesterday strong enough he’s in second place at the moment they want to keep that because it’s taken a mountain days to go but he’s called for some action they wouldn’t have normally have done this if they weren’t looking for the stage and for Adam y to gain more time but they’ve lost um pretty much all the team now um a lot of Raiders moving up shelmore is kind of drifting a little bit now um uh back a little bit so interesting to see difficult to see from this angle but definitely Alida has went up put a bit of pace on Adam y wants this it’s when and where he’s going to go on attack Tom pitock is in the best place grab his wheel but the but scal losing the wheel OE also here um looking back through you can see that enmc mass is not that far away either just uh sitting in as he is on the back wheel at the moment of rickell uh we saw what polls go out the back and right now finy Pickering had a good run today job done for him is delor likewise heading that way badil Lati who tried to animate things not that long ago for Q3 65 we just passed him meanwhile we get back up to this group right now what are we uh um about 12 Riders that’s all shell MOS is now just hanging a little bit off the back uh Tom Pitcock just trying to stay with Adam Yates might try and Nick it um no Breakaway Riders up ahead of them right now and it’s a big pickup as well from Sha Alida uh the pace that they require to launch Adam yeah it’s um it’s now been reinstated courtesy of Almeida yeah it’s getting close to that 5 kilometer Mark where he went yesterday and I think it will be something very similar but the disappointment now for skore you looked good yesterday um sitting in third place at 26 seconds same as Almeida um now being distanced but with looks like Kerman it Brooks as well there for um visar Las a bag but this is a big up in Tempo who can stay with them when Adam launches Tom pockock is in the best possible place but does he have the legs to go with yet let’s find out shall we um couple of radios being pulled here almost flamboyantly um at the back yeah Felix go like I don’t want to hear have any more instructions thank you very much he’s got his earpiece waggling on his uh on his neck here and the pace has now been picked up Adam Yates looks like he’s almost on a Sunday afternoon is’s just looking so effective at the moment Tom Pitcock just staying with him we got Igan Bal as well just tucked in on his back wheel Mell is there other struggling this is kman group further back here with SOS as well The Young Riders classification leader there wearing number one is Kerman on his wheel fighting for survival utre his teammate has been told to roll on and he fact he’s done that meanwhile Adam Yates just starts to pick it up almost half wheels his teammate this is usually suggestive of something let’s see Arma still doing it Adam yate still taking a uh a little bit of rest bite there but he comes up alongside almost his teammate he feels like he’s going to go Brian there’s 10 left it’s a case of and ala’s mind he’s thinking come on Adam when are you going to go and because I want to try and kind of hang on to who goes with you because I want to stay up there in the general classification as well but it’s a case of go as hard as you you can save that a little bit but I think in Oma’s mind it’s like oh come on just give me a rest just go so that I can jump on the wheels of the riders that chase you been a warm day today lots of jerseys unzipped as you can see and the call for some cooling fluid was uh was quite clear this is George Bennett had some uh words to say about today had high hopes for it and we had high hopes for George um as well yep 4.8 km to go and so they’re just got around the next hairpin it flattens out very briefly I don’t think there’s going to be a reassembly though here we are Tom pitot drifts over to the side of the road and uh I don’t know whether that’s that for himan Bernal tucks in here Brian yeah is it’s pick was the best place there ha could been dropped now phix G Pitcock just in front so we’re down to what six Raiders if that now at the front of the race ala looking super strong but he’ll want to kind of stay up there in the the general classification um just in case anything was to happen to to Adam y but Adam looking good Bernal definitely up there Mass only um looking good for those Riders but strong performance there although they kind of got depleted in numbers from UE Ricky T writing well tell you from Premier after attacking and staying with them 4 and A2 kilm to go few more hair pins we’ll we’ll talk you you through more of them as uh as they come uh but for the time being our eyes are absolutely glued on this um Tom pitcock not going to be for him today let’s see indeed what Egan Bernal who’s just slowly but surely getting himself ever further closer to um our minds as far as a Podium is concerned let’s have a look shall we he’s in third wheel at the moment with sha MAA doing the pacing the Portuguese just tucked in behind him Adam Yates in the leaders yellow Jersey Oscar Onley doggedly determined to uh stay with that group and you never know sometimes you can find your legs just about uh to get to this flatter section right now and the motorcycle just giving them a a little bit of rest spite it’s a false flat but only 1% by the time that they uh they finally get to enjoy it uh should be coming up rather shortly um and in fact here I think it is once we’ve dealt with this little hair pin so this is about 9% as it stands as we come past the uh the chooro I’ve no idea I think he’s a biscuit um this man well if he gets back in he’ll take it there is Tom Pitcock still just trying to get his own distance on those who indeed would get something out of the day say a picks it back up again just tries to get a little bit more impetus is that Stevie Williams back here 3.8 kilomet of the day George Bennett um just looking further back there is the white jersey of shelm Mo goodness me it’s had a big impact today so here’s your flat section and then all of a sudden you can see by from the pace complete change this was uh could be a disruptor but it’s only 500 M Brian before we we pick up again time yeah I think everybody knows uh what’s going to happen is about um you know just kind of waiting for for Yates to go when he’s going to go I think U te member really want to kind of try and keep a hold of one two uh for the moment anyway they still have a lot of buffer on Egan B now good right do you have to say from rielo Israel Premier tick um hanging on the back his Mass I think he he looks as if he’s just kind of happy to follow but I think the fact that schel has gone now um leading this race is Adam y ala they want to keep on in second place now at 26 seconds 49 back down to Bern now he was always worried about Adam he said at start of the day about the the final time trial so this is working into his Advantage putting quite a bit of time into scale moris and the other kind of TT kind of specialist behind so they’re quite happy and I think that’s the reason why Yates is maybe kind of holding back a little bit EDC Mass also looking very effective I must admit um he’s just wondering if he’s he hasn’t had a win this year I don’t think any M haven’t got really time to go and check but um here is Al on the front just doing that now no he hasn’t um but um we know what a great Rider he is and uh again you know it’s that long road isn’t it back to Greatness uh something that’s been trotten by Adam Yates many times in the past and here we go anybody need some water um no thanks very much looks like it wasn’t an official handout um 2.8 kilometers of this day remaining and still we wait for an attack has the pace been so relentless that it’s depleted all of them Brian it might be a slow bicycle race to the line I think it would have been a little bit different if scale M was here um then we seen y but the fact that scale M has gone um means that um U emor is in a really strong position here first and second they want to look after uh almea as well so I think Y is holding himself back a little bit I think he will go in the end to take the stage and take another 10 seconds put a little bit more time into the others Riello definitely we said he was on the attack um he was at Ninth Place he’s moving up I think for the others it’s a case of damage limitation just keep a a strong Tempo uh Mass I don’t think we’ll see him attacking I think he’s kind of happy being here the only person I think that will try and have a go is ber now good to see him up here in this group of five it is well there he is dead set in the middle in the orangey red Adam Yates he’s got that uh he looks like a terrier waiting for a biscuit he really has that sort of sense of uh expectation and we’ve we’ve got it ourselves I’m just waiting for Adam y to uh to go full display I believe he can let’s see Bernal comes out of the saddle checks behind almost suggestive of a move rookie has a look um enic mass at the back Adam Yates as we coming to a hoed section 2 3 km to go there a big right hander here coming up proper hair pin will be with about 1.7 km to go so 500 M time it may well start to look like a slow motion bicycle race still a couple of turns to be taken after the flam Rouge as well mountains checkpoint coming up as well um as you can see along the way counting into that as we do 2.1 kilm to go from home and uh still no move and I don’t think needs to be one just yet it could actually turn out just to be a sort of a Sprint in the last 5 600 M let’s wait and see Char MAA being almost half wheeled here by Adam Yates who just holding that position wants to give himself the best look at the road and instinctively as well he’s almost moving himself to the middle of the road so he’s got some clear space if there is an attack over the top Brian he doesn’t want to crash into his own man he wants to have a uh the ability just to to go and follow and maybe overtake just Mark anything out he’s got that sense of what’s behind him Adam Yates likewise what lays up ahead he’s super Confident by the looks of things um this is a huge help for aleda although he’s doing the right in front you can see that when y was coming up alongside he’s got a lot to give in the end um you got to remember now’s 49 seconds so it’s important almea trying stays in here and I think this is what he’s trying to do almea hanging on Adam Yates goes the only man who can go with him is is Egan Bal drifting over as well enri Mass that’s that’s a good sight to see Rell is off the back he’s done Bernal can’t stay with it cruising straight through goes enrik mass enri mass is going to be nearest man to I think Bernal tries to hook onto the back wheel of Enric Mass but Adam Yates kicks on and they hold on hold on but this is where he usually starts to stretch his legs clocks back down in the saddle no Panic just yet Mass a minute and 17 down Burnal a little bit further um behind at the moment but Vernal only 49 seconds in the overall Adam Yates is going to want to a little bit more of this Alida still struggling to stay with it and almost offering up a back wheel to Ricky and Yates comes back out of the saddle right now radio encouragement coming as it does from Shia Almeida saying just go for it don’t worry waiting for me and indeed Adam Yates possibly would have done at that point 500 m is where I think he’s probably going to double kick again let’s wait and see as uh it gets rather rather steep here about 10% maybe you’ll want to issue the cudal just there and it’s 11% as it is and Bernal says he can’t cope with this any longer just drift to the barriers and now it’s enrik Mass with uh with Adam Yates well if it’s only two in it two horse race Adam Yates is certainly not going to want to lose that but enrik Mass really showing that the form is flooding back to him which is exactly what we want to see uh Bernal cannot go with it and meanwhile back here Almeida and rickell so the gaps are indeed opening up gaps that are exploited by the camera bike here drifts in to just keep clear there’s the kilometer to go marker flam Rouge dealt with and Adam Yates he changed the tempo has he still got the the drive here Brian yeah the elastic is stretching now but Al I tell you what as good a ride as Adam Yates is at the front so looks as if that constant pressure Bern now couldn’t do it Mass couldn’t do it they’re looking back no more for Mass anymore and it’s all down to to Adam y but I tell you what ala is come he’s got his breath back what a ride by him might be a one two he’s going to he’s going to latch on here to Egan Bell then he’s going to hunt down enri m you can be sure of that but Adam Yates has got 10 bike lengths right now with 700 or so meters remaining thought this would come in the last 500 not a bit of it he went for it on the toughest part of the climb 11% as it does so late in the day and away he goes in expending that Gap and here comes Almeida he’s just gone by uh just about to tag ENC mass as well absolutely outstanding what a team performance It Is by UE mem and Adam Yates absolutely in his pump starting the day is out and out favorite lived up to the billing and that’s ala nearest to him that is phenomenal goes straight round both mass and be now and says see you they can almost hold hand at the line the what it seems that almeida’s got so much on board he sacrificed himself on behalf of Adam Yates and Adam Yates is paying the team back at the moment with a stellar performance what about that Brian yeah Al on this clim has been absolutely amazing he done a lot of raiding Adam y on the attack five M to go will look back and see his teammate what he do I think he has to keep on going he’s 10 seconds on the finishing line but I’m not too sure there’ll be any kind of waiting but Alida is coming and uh they make they’re definitely going to get the one and two it’s what happens in the last kind of 400 m here cuz they can’t afford to to come together but I think Yates wants that Victory wants the victory wants the bonus seconds a man who is greedy to show exactly what he’s got he may well be in the service ital pachu of course at the Tour of France but when he’s allowed to help himself he takes a very big slice of cake well he’s had his cake and he’s eaten it today absolute genius at work Adam Yates well it’s all very well being the favorite having a door open for you in that regard but you’ve got to step through and you’ve got to perform and that’s precisely what he’s done and how brilliant the shower made have been as well it’s going to be a onew for them and they’re going to be one and two overall as well he comes into the crowd it’s section here 25 M to go still driving it home once every second they all count including the bonuses and Adam Yates brings it home and he looks like our champion in Waiting underscored doubly so today R Arma what an amazing team performance and just look at him as well and watch the faces of those who cross the line far more harried and troubled but now shakes his head crossing the line right now Ricky as well did everything he could enrik Mass looked strong out there just faded towards the very last what an amazing race and what a fabulous leader we have of it it’s Adam Yates Brian that was great yeah you look strong he looked really really strong and you know I don’t think anybody was going to stop him everybody’s just you know minor places but I think the man of that climb was ziaa he had to come up and and and do the job I think they were they were thin in the ground on the clim um and I Madea had to take it off probably a little bit too early than he wanted to do but he fought to the end didn’t he but Adam yes as expected you know the bookie’s favorite today I think everybody’s favorite to take the Victory and this uh pelaton was decimated in the end super day for Adam yank will’ll be hearing from him shortly I’m certain osar only just driving it home with Tom Pitcock in company just behind as well but Adam Yates well if he took control yesterday in the driving seat of this race today he has just hit the accelerator and how fantastic finish and a great result for him that was scale moist there 141 [Music] wow well it just shows you how a comp U meates are at the moment and um they we said they were the strongest team coming here Brian but you know they’ve lived up to the billing haven’t they they have man in the left the Portuguese Raider although Adam y won the stage and it looked strong over the last kind a couple of days but H off to Ala for the work he he did and having to dig deep second place yesterday for Adam y behind tson train as the Breakaway made it home but he put such a margin into the favorites we wondered if he could go for the stage win today that’s precisely what he’s done in the run up to carry and in so doing he has extended his Gap it’s a meaty margin overall and I don’t think there’s going to be any catching of him we got two mountain stages to come he might get even more greedy in the next couple of days by wouldn’t be surprised I think they won’t maybe settle down a little bit now I think it was important today um to gain more time in his rival which he did to get that stage win that he thought he could have had yesterday I think is more control over the next couple of days um potentially you know look at possibilities with um reping joa not too sure this is the best thing having no deviation but possibly don’t have the road space up here to be able to do that but all the cars having to cross the line and turn left after the line well it’s going to be quite a while Brian as we wait for those who would trouble maybe the top 10 overall Ry Costa coming in second Portuguese home today after a shower made a spectacular performance oh what can we expect for tomorrow then Brian you think it may well calm a bit I think it will um it was clear when we came to a and the way they were racing that um this is what they wanted you Emer it’s I think tomorrow I think there’ll be a lot of riders looking to get in that Breakaway because I do believe that it could be a breakaway day tomorrow Del Toro wins he finds himself by the way Del Toro 3 minutes and 42 down overall at the moment the GC you know today’s results but the GC Adam Yates leads ala his teammate by 35 seconds Egan Bernell is the best of the rest he’s in third place moves up a spot um shelm Mo’s really the big loser on the day big Vault was rickell moves up four places into fifth enri mass is up three places into fourth aan beral up one place to third behind Almeida and Yates well U emites have really turned themselves into a race winning machine and they arrived here with indeed uh the hopes that Adam Yates would be able to stand proud and he’s done exactly that already looks like the race title belongs to him but it’s been a busy year for him you know um in know man he was magnificent so I witnessed it myself I was on hand um took the stage win up the the Green Mountain um and indeed here at Tor switzland he looks like he is in Prime position to deliver once again and with that man’s help waiting up to say thank you very much one and two overall Brian they worked for it yeah it was good really strong confirmation today’s results Adam Yates takes it ahead of Almeida Iger beral Ricky enri mass in fifth place of onlyy pidcock IG Felix G and Shan UT but Adam Yates with those 10-second bonus as well in charge oh nice and warm up in the mountains today it can act as a little bit of a cauldron just generating that temperature almost dark landscape once the snow has dissipated took a long time for our breakway to establish itself that senko was a very busy man in fact he was in every incarnation of the break before it finally settled down the drive the chase was always being invoked by UI team Emirates and indeed Mark hu was the man who really empties himself almost constantly there was some happy faces out there they done some early climbing then we had a large Plateau which was going to bring us back to the category one test they’ taken at the beginning of the day albeit from a different direction there was a bit of spice out there not least at the tisso uh Sprint and um a little bit of little bit of argument as well I have to say amongst our Breakaway um Rubio wasn’t overly delighted by St mitt’s expectation that he’d be able to just uh cruise through and take the the tiso watch uh Rubio really wanted it and um took his man to the barriers not shown here in the highlights not surprised uh got himself a tisso watch didn’t make any friends certainly not from the ODS family I can tell you that much um nonetheless they uh they pushed on and uh indeed STM it I bgy P um they uh they pushed on but were ultimately to be tagged and it was all about the end of the day Brian yeah it was Final climb to come um these four Riders still can of pushed on but it was in at the start of the climb that set the first Tempo it was so our break had done its job and indeed the broken was our King of the mountains man from yesterday stage winner toson train that mountains Jersey now owned by well Adam y second yesterday behind train went one better today but had to work very hard and as they were doing doing all the work at the front you Emirates it was having a big big cost for those who thought they might get something out of today Brian that was a good um good set up by naders here they were trying to kind of look at pit cup possibly be now at this stage still a sizeable group and U Emirates were now down to you know only three Raiders in this group and then Jaa had to kind of take it on and he Rel up the tempo such that the white jersey of score last year’s winner was dropped Tom Pitcock as well we thought that he was um going to wisely follow the wheel of Adam Yates and maybe end up coming through at the end but he had to see the position he’ clearly been working for Egan Bal who stayed with a quintet of talent up front but honestly when ala pull to one side Adam Yates went for it the tempo was followed by Egan Burnal just cruising into that Gap was enri mass but it was just too much for Bernal ultimately Mass looked like he was riding clever meanwhile Almeida had got his second breath he got onto the back wheel of uh every single Rider in front of him save for this man Adam Yates and it was to be a famous one two for UE te Emirates Adam Yates coming home to the plaudits second yesterday winner today but each of these two days he has really imposed himself on everyone around him in the general classification nearest man tur in the GC is that teammate almea reconfirmation of that stage classification but Adam Yates leads this race overall by a minute and 11 to or Bar’s teammate yes in the general classification um which is of more importance than the stage classification again Egen Bernell is the nearest nonu Rider to Adam Yates Yates leads Almeida his teammate by 35 seconds Bernal is third on the podium at the moment a minute and 11 down uh a bit bummed that Bernard came by at the end but it’s uh it was a good race and uh I think still happy with the result yeah surprised to be there because in the team that tell you why we told told us be careful of matello finally you’re there but wait did you surprise yourself a bit um yeah I mean I knew I had good legs coming into the race and every race I do I’m I’m always pretty ambitious and eager to get a result and um I wouldn’t say I’m super surprised just pretty happy that uh it kind of worked out today what do you think you can do now with the what remains uh we’ll see I mean we have more yeah more lots more climbing to go and uh yeah we’ll try and I just keep keep going the way it’s been going I think and uh it’ll be a good race so congrats with thanks still a young man Matthew ritello 22 years of age very much at the start of his career but um absolutely outstanding rer and today very good performance by him but you know there can only be one winner and when is on this kind of form it’s um it’s hard to countenance Rella moving up four places by the way the big mover on the day uh amongst the top 10 he’s now in fifth place behind enrik Mass Egan Bernal is at a minute and 11 down on Adam Yates after the bonuses have been factored in um enri Mass himself a minute and 49 Ricky T a minute and 53 these are yawning gaps really so almost early on in this race really we [Music] pass over the halfway mark with this stage five of the eight two more climbing days to come and a lumpy time trial I don’t think there’s any fear from Adam Yates on any of those days Bri no I was just looking at some of the highlights there and um for the bits towards the top of the climb it seemed he was in a big ring um never saw towards the bottom you just see it here uh just for a glimpse so big ring and definitely the the top part of this climb looked super impressive but you mentioned rickell he shot up he was the biggest mve Shaker um moving up four places and he moves into the white jersey the best young Rider he’s got 24 seconds uh on skelm Mo who had a very tough day today so that’ll be one goal but this man as you’ve already mentioned not only yellow he has red he is black doesn’t qualify for the white it’s been a dominant display by Adam Y in this race have to be quick change artist today to come out for the sponsors for all of the jerseys let’s he from Lenny Maz shall [Music] we how tough was it out there he finished 24 3 minutes down well it goes on tell us about your day well it was a very tough stage the two early climbs were quite difficult but I manag to come back had a mechanical problem out there as well to wait for the neutral car to change the bik the I felt quite empty to be honest and since the start of the last climb um they went very hard and I just couldn’t hold the pace I just have to ride at my own pace with circumstances such as that want I didn’t want to drop too much time but in the end I dropped over three minutes so um I kept fighting until the end I gave everything I had today tough Pace from inas since the very start of the stage he says I don’t understand why it was super quick out there very very difficult well I’ll just have to see how the legs go um on the final claim I I just didn’t have them today not what I was expecting at all but you know what that’s cycling and that’s Alam yat well let’s he from the great man it will be I’m certain that usual machine gun delivery here he comes Adam Yates congrats to your win it was almost terrifying what you and your team did today yeah it was a really strong performance um yeah at the end there Jo we put on a crazy uh crazy pay so uh I only had to follow for you know four 5Ks and then uh even when I attacked he was still there so uh yeah he’s obviously in super super great shape and uh the whole team is uh you know super motivated uh for the rest of the week now you’re the big favorite for the GC and your biggest opponent is coming from the same team how is that how do you handle that yeah I mean it’s a good position to be in to have two guys in such great shape um from the beginning you know we we we were both co-leaders and so far he’s working well so uh but yeah you saw today was not easy for us uh in set a pace really hard in the first first two climbs uh to try and flick us um but then you thought we came back as a team um got organized and uh we could do our Pace in the final so both it’s an open race both can win or both allowed to win or are you the boss no yeah of course if ja is stronger than me then uh then he can win you know um he showed today he really really put the pace on uh and yeah there was only four guys left no four or five guys so uh if he uh if he has the same legs for the next few days and for sure he can uh for sure you can take the thank you very much I guess when you saw today I made a certainly working on behalf of Adam Yates um they still talk about joint leadership um I don’t think there’s going to be any gifts here however they need to remain the um the best of Rivals within their own team at the moment there is a pecking order quite clearly Brian um let’s see how that holds together in the next couple of days yeah it’s very difficult to have two two leaders one there’s only two years left and someone has to pull ala had to do that because Adam y has put himself in that position in the yellow Jersey so B looks super strong there and I think with 35 seconds separating there would still be a chance for om made in the final time trial so let’s see what happens over the next couple of days yeah he’s a very good time tral after all on the Open Stage was uh was fourth let’s not forget so if he holds a margin it could change at the end well Alam Yates owns the uh stage he’ll be back out for the GC the yellow Jersey once he’s dealt with his cheese um he also is the points leader and he also is the king of the mountains leader so some of you will be taking your leave I think the only uh Jersey that he doesn’t own will be the youth jersey which will go to Matthew rickell Rel that competition ahead of shellmo Now by 24 seconds so let’s have a look at the map of tomorrow shall we we’re climbing again and here it is [Music] old rck it’s only 42.5 km stage is shortened uh issues with a tunnel so it’s going to be um not exactly a day off um but it might well feel a little bit like that compared to what we were expecting yes the N pass was uh supposed to be our all category test and now of course in its absence it looks like this is quite a benign day we will have a category 1 finale at the end today up to blaten nonetheless it kind of magnified the importance of today did it not and as a result Adam Yates can feel well satisfied with the job well done great day of racing terrific leader of this race well he looks good in yellow Brian I think he’s um how confident can he be um with that time trial shorten stage tomorrow which he would have I’m sure been relishing one more Mountains day proper to take and then a time trial where Almeida might well start thinking about clipping it his heels there’s only 35 seconds between them yeah any stage win um bya gives them seconds back final time tral 35 seconds is doable in my view um so it’s still between the two teammates who wins so if you’re asking me would Adam yat be confident of the victory yeah in the form that he’s shown but I think it’s not a done deal yet [Music] well that’s nice Ricky teller best young Rider GOI looks like he’s um just finished delivering the papers Brian he’s a youngster but a fabulous talent and show that today yeah good youngster um impressive today the best mover on the general classification um consider the ring he put in that attack with batti and then was able to kind of hang on was good the twon tornado there he is uh 24 seconds clear of Matty selos really faded today Oscar Onley really did battle towards the end and um indeed he sits at 28 seconds on that Young Riders podium [Music] back out with the mountain Jersey I wonder if he’ll be able to mirror that in the Welter this year not sure his job May well of course already have been completed however there is the none too small matter of the time trial it’s an unusual time trial at the end of this race though Brian that um could throw up some surprises I think Yates will cope with it reasonably well I think he’d rather have a an uphill time trial than a a flat time tral Adam Yates leading the king of the mountains competition by four points ahead of alenko who uh for much of the day was in that Jersey torsson train handing it over after of course seeding it today yesterday stage winner toson train [Music] well we’re just going to stay to see Adam Yates dressed in black it’s almost in morning for all challenges isn’t it so overall leader points leader King of the mountains they’ve got the teams as well I think combativity might go to let say Eno today but you just never know nonetheless we’ll take our leave thank you so much for your company Brian enjoyed it yeah super stage um pleased with that still a few uh racing days to go and the outcome is not guaranteed for out mutes ban Kar still holding a candle here which is great to see um from myself Carlton Kirby and from Brian Smith thank you so much for joining us today uh we will see you tomorrow a mountains day kind of don’t forget same place same time as we race on stage six of the tour of Switzerland here for your enjoyment an adjusted route a shorter distance certainly let’s see it could be one that tempts to break away to my mind and UAE might indeed just allow that to happen we’ll see you tomorrow from myself Carson from Brian Smith thanks for your company stay safe see you tomorrow bye-bye [Music] go
