Lily Williams is a professional cyclist that races around the globe, she will race in two team events at the Paris Olympics, the team pursuit and the Madison on the velodrome.
meantime Tallahasse has produced one of the best female cyclists in the world we’re talking about 30-year-old Lily Williams she is truly living the drink isn’t she she makes her living racing the roads of Europe where she lives now full-time but her passion is racing on the Vel dromes around the world our Todd Wilson got a chance to sit down and talk about her preps for the upcoming Paris game she can I can’t imagine how excited she is Todd okay let me tell you something Lily Williams is the bomb let me just put it that way I totally fanned out when I when I talk to her I’m a big fan of course she’s currently in Colorado Springs training for Paris with her teammates now she qualified in two disciplines on the track it’s team Pursuit and the Madison you’ve had a pretty long season so far you started in January at the tour down under yep I have had a I have had a very long season I think I’m not I’m not the only one uh the Olympic year I think is uh long for everybody tallahassee’s very own Lily Williams races around the globe cycling in Belgium Spain and Italy to name a few places currently her focus is in Colorado Springs preparing for the summer games yeah we’re here for three three and a half weeks we about halfway through our altitude block and then we go do our final preparations in Belgium in Paris Williams will race in two team events called the team Pursuit and the Madison on the vum she credits Florida with nurturing her Talent growing up in tallah hasd laid the foundation for everything because I was a cross country and track and field Runner uh in Florida in high school and eventually in college as well um yeah and I think yeah being an athlete um from a young age in Florida was uh really important for my um experience as an athlete in my development Williams says her parents still live in Tallahassee while she calls France home Williams won a World title in the team Pursuit back in 2020 while many expected her and the team to take home a gold in the Tokyo Olympics they came away with a bronze for Team USA what is success for you at the Olympics it’s pretty impossible to put um expectations on results you know we can know how fast we’re going to ride and we can know what our fit Fitness level is but the whole point of the Olympics is that it’s kind of a random mixed bag and people come out of nowhere and people you think are going to do really well do not so uh I am looking at Paris as kind of my like Redemptive Olympics you know just to go back really enjoy myself well William says she’s put in the work to win this summer of course and her teammates have done the same now once the Olympics in she heads back to racing on the road all around the world in big races good luck to her
