Hello everyone, I’m married , two kids and am in the military(UK). So thats relevant because I’ve had this trip planned for 10 years and finally pulled it off and got it in before I start university this year and continue my military career path!
My question is pretty simple, but my drivetrain was changing gear and running smooth as butter prior to this trip. But after 540 miles the train was visibly worn and the gear changing is awful. Would that be the weight of the bags etc? Currently in the process of changing components.
The route was 540 miles starting in Fort William Scotland, up the west coast, along the north and turning south to Inverness just before john o’groats this was because I didn’t want to spend too long on the A9 , especially this time of year because the route was packed with caravans. Then finally back to the A9 , my friend joined me as a support vehicle on the last day so I could get back to fort William efficiently. It ended up taking 9 days. I started and finished in Fort William because I live on the west cost , so it was a direct train from my town.
One thing to make note – I went with a friend who’s bike wasn’t completely up to the task of the hills we faced on this ride. Not hundreds of meters in height except a couple, but they are short, sharp, and some are like walls! So this slowed us down quite considerably , but looking back, this was one of the good sides to the trip because it allowed me to take note and some pictures and enjoy being on the journey!
Thanks for reading , if you have any questions or are considering this yourself , please feel free to ask!
