I just got my first pair of cycling shoes and pedals. I’ve been riding daily for many years and enjoyed getting stronger. Several people recommended the shoes but I was afraid to try for fear of getting stuck and falling. I didn’t want to have to carry extra shoes either (I will probably leave a pair at work).
It turns out that clipping IN is more difficult than clipping OUT because you’ve got to hit a little invisible target with your foot. It’s different than just standing on the platform. Clipping out, the part I was anxious about, is not so hard, and I pretty good at low speeds, so I practiced doing track stands and clipping out both feet at once on a coworker’s advice. And quick change from sneakers to cycling shoes on the train before the last stop went fine.
They are uncomfortable to stand around in, so I won’t be wearing them all day long. That is a little annoying, since my fast bike is also for grocery shopping. Anyone have advice for that? Will walking around too much ruin these shoes?
Anyway, I feel pretty good with them after one day. I’m not sure if I’m gonna always want to commute with these or if it means I’m gonna have to find more excuses to ride my bike 😂 anybody else trying to use SPD on the daily banging around town bike?
