[Music] a [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] we’re heading into the Millennium with hearty pool United this is the dramatic story of a season that ended in Cardiff with a biggest game in the club’s history The Players give us the inside track from the Star man in attack to the last line of defense and they some good Tales to tell with every goal from every game of the promotion push so enjoy a tremendous football Journey the word bounce back ability hadn’t been invented last summer but the harleypool players knew what it meant after the previous season’s playoff Agony we got beat off Bristol after two really good performances uh great dis unbelievable disappointment but once we got in the dressing rooms we gotten a team coach uh and we looked at how well we’ve done we pretty much forgot about it pretty much straight away we we sort of said to ourselves hey what a great season we had uh entertained loads of fans and some really good performances and and the lads were really looking forward to starting back for preseason enjoyed the holiday they came back really fresh and ready to start preseason people thought the first year was was a fluke a oneof you know and I think um it meant a lot to us to prove people wrong to prove that we are a good team that we can do it year after year and I think it was always going to be a harder season and people knew what we were about knew how we played and um I think it’s Testament of the lads how well we have done last season achievement was really you know really really big for us cuz we you know just got promoted and nobody expected us to reach the playoff so uh we did ever so well so we came back uh knowing that we we gave it a goal season before and we’re going to try to do the same impressive new kit arrived from Nike and the occasional new face like Scottish Defender Jack Ross what the the playoff games had them tap and watched them um I’m very very unlucky and no doubt they look to build on that but you know I’ve came from clubs that have been used to been challenging at the right end of the table which is why I came here as well cuz I think that’s same last season’s DVD was called the best yet that’s the standard they’d set themselves so back in training how was the mood in the camp mama you feel same it is all this is preseason everyone moaning about how much running they’re going to do um but just to reflect I suppose was you know let’s go and do it again because you know we’ve been involved in the playoffs a few times and the great occasions so um you know let’s knuckle down work hard get ourselves fit for the start of this season [Applause] home form had always been the Bedrock of pool’s promotion runs the Victoria Park pitch looked as Immaculate as ever as the new campaign started with a tough test Bradford [Applause] City oh that’s on side and here’s Dean windass and he’s found the back of the net and the traveling fans go mad in the Harley poool sunshine [Applause] [Music] so cool found themselves a goal down on the opening day of the Season Richie Humphrey Adam boy good feed he’s brought down was it inside or outside it’s a penalty well Adam Boyd went down and challenge the referee set inside the area Adam Boyd no problem no problem at all on the opening day of the season for Adam Boyd pull back level Robertson going to try a special no oh it’s found its way through Rush chville the goalkeepers had a nightmare and Hugh Robertson has wed on the opening day for Harley pool well in stoppage time now surely it’s too late for Bradford or is it oh we save from Robert people have said do would there be a backlash on last season you know and would we not be as good as we are but we set high standards and you know we’re very fit side I think that showed today and we never gave up till the end and that was a big plus Factor last season and it’s a big factor I think to go into this season three over the ball for Harley Paul it’s the right sort of angle though for Hugh Robertson’s left foot Here Comes Robertson fabulous free kick Hardley Paul have got the lead and Hugh Robertson picks up where he left off last season saw some crackers for him then that’s for sure we started right from the the very first day I took over it’s been going reasonably well since then we’ve been restricted in the sense that we can’t go out willy-nilly and buy players uh our board perhaps is the best in the country because what we spend is their their money we’re spending we haven’t got 20,000 30,000 40,000 to throw away um but it is being shaped and it will continue to be shaped as well uh and this business about re-election and what you’re going to do next season we won’t have to apply for reelection and we’ll be having you down here every other week next season because she’ll be wanting to come along the first chance the club had to pay their formal tribute to Brian kluf came before the next round of The Carling cup Harley pool have been drawn Equalizer finally and it’s doie fredman rout takes it and it came out a great save but surely and it is into the back of the net and it’s Tom SS and Crystal Palace take the lead in the second period of extra time Ian Dow obviously got a great set of players there do never so well at Palace and he played virtually strongest team that night I tell you what we we pushed him right right the way uh we got beaten was injury time or whatever but tell you what it was a good learning curve for us a great entertaining game initially disappointment but tell you what we took a lot from that performance and I think we carried that over to the league league form Harley pool’s first trip to the National Hockey Center to play Milton kean’s Dons won’t evoke too many great memories despite Adam Boyd striking first Boyd converted Aven Williams excellent cross for a very decent opener but the game soon went to pot for the visitors Dons were leveled through is mccloud’s header if it was in fact a header it looked to be a bit of arming there somewhere not much doubt about Wade Small’s goal 2 minutes after the restart Jim provit never had a prayer minutes later Chris Westwood’s foul allowed Gary Smith to make it 3-1 from the spot and there was worse to come some sharp Head tennis ended with McLoud finding the bottom corner for his second of the game but there was no chance of a hat– trick after he became involved in an unnecessary confrontation with Anthony Sweeney they both had to go there was little room for consolation when boy did manage to get another late on it was a sweet strike with the 4-2 defeat left a very bitter [Applause] taste full of confidence this season so far he’s Jason price played in oh might fall for price again oh pick that out hell going forward again balls again they were sent packing this time with a lot less pass pool’s opening goal after just 7 minutes was top draw controlled passing with Joel Porter arriving in support to slam the ball home great work too from Aven Williams strong running followed by the deest of touches 3 minutes after the restart Gavin sten’s Free kick was pushed away Boyd reacted first to knock in the second of the game got that on Tuesday when we played them strong in all departments um and they showed that again today but I thought we were a different class today back on their travels pools put in a hard shift at top of the table Luton but got absolutely nothing against their old boss Mike nle the team had the best of the game to their former Striker Steve Howard gave the Hatters the lead 10 minutes before halftime 5 minutes into the second half they were two up Rowan Vine’s first time shot was parried by Jim provit but Ahmed burkovich was on hand to cash in pools pushed on but left themselves goalkeeper you have to have a lot of patience and you know take your time and especially when I you know when I first came here Jim was in goal he was doing well and uh it’s it’s hard to get in goals and if you do well hard to get out of goals so that’s basically what you’re going to do you got to wait for for a chance and take it I guess the the manager at the time you know Neil Cooper he he was came North to Victoria Park and stretched pools all the way the visitors are playing really well so far macko’s cross Roberts at the back post they deserve that one n so bill’s good home form under thought both games were really exciting uh but the result that day really really boosted us because we knew bourou were going to be there are thereabouts at the end of the season and to pick the points up against him was a real key key point point for us at vital time by the end of November hols were ninth but only one point a drift of a playoff place with six points covering 11 clubs the totally for Joel Porter to finish off there were still 10 minutes left in the first half when Humphrey sliced rexam apart and it was Boyd’s turn to help himself just the one second half goal created by pool’s resident Welshman Aven Williams and finished off by Sweeny for his second 51 we played well we were under a lot of pressure at times we counteract tremendously and uh we caught rex on the Counterattack five times and scored five times and rexman were a good team at the time uh but we played well and OB he got the three points a game like that was always coming really um because we’ve got players in the team who can get forward and get a goal um you know I think you know to get those so many goals away from home that was going to come and I think from then um you know gave everyone that little bit more confidence um to go and get results away from home constantopoulos plenty of heighten distance on that one aen Williams Treads it through for Anthony Sweeny on a run tackle there was from haneing and that’s a penalty will haning caught Sweeney spot kick Adam Boyd referee checking there’s no encroachment Boyd steps up 1 nil coolly taken by Adam Boyd and Boyd gives PS the lead well it’s not a well-liked place it gets really cold in the winter uh obviously the fans are right on top of you and they create a good atmosphere they get right behind the own team uh we like to keep Victoria Park as a fortress CU we get some good points here and it’s vital whatever division we’re in it’s important we win our home games of course Harley Paul looking to make it 13 home wins in a of lads anyway and um even when we were getting beat on Saturdays um other teams were losing as well which which which kept us in the race to be fair we stumbled a bit towards the end but the other clubs around as well which was was a bit frustrating to be honest cuz if like I say if we’ have won game before going to Bournemouth we’ have been in the playoffs but know we we always make it difficult for ourselves and usually take it to the last game and we knew if we could keep going um even if it went to the last day um it has done before here a few times so um you got to keep going be mentally strong um stay together as a squad uh you know and try and get there in the end the pressure certainly told on our players and it’s certainly told on on other other teams as well it’s a team that actually all the nerve at them late games and late performances uh late in sort of April May time that really can push yourselves right in right into the playoff position I think the lads um definitely knew around February March that you know we got a real good chance of making the playoffs again as long we keep our heads and you know keep playing the same football uh that we’ve been playing um we made it difficult for ourselves in the end but I think that’s harleypool United [Music] [Applause] this as I go away now for Swindon he got Christian Roberts there as well and that’s a are back on home duty this time against Barry Peter who hammered them in the away game oh nice little touch of Westwood and a cool finish of Joe for but he goes straight to Chris Westwood little bit of show booing from Westwood and a tidy finish from [Applause] Porter that’s a hopeful one forward boy puts it through Sweeny just sticks out of foot and that’s toel Hardley B well the ball from Boyd it looked like the chance had gone but Sweeney didn’t let it go and scored Logan picks that up now Richard Logan tries his luck and his looks in they’re back in it comes across it’s headed down and season and none of them will be as good as this one that was near genius everybody wrote about him everyone spoke about him and um you just can’t praise him know if he’s been fantastic and and now he’s scoring the goals to go with it so um when you combine and scale it and now he’s scoring the goals you got a heck of a player you know that’s probably the best go scor in the career uh to cap that off with to be me hric call as well you know really special I think B2 and Chip the for much more I don’t think he’s fantastic um I don’t I don’t know if it’s just me but we seem to have a um you know understanding and we sort of know where each other’s going to run and uh where we need to pass it and and stuff like that so I’m not sure if he thinks the same about me but he’s a great player to play with he’s got fantastic skill you know he’s got great touch he can turn he can run um at Defenders and you know he’s he’s quite unselfish as well Harley paol had moved up to Fourth by the time experience of the previous Five Seasons had surely taught the squad how to handle the pressures of the promotion run in just two games to go now to make the cut for the playoffs no sign of the fans atrocious um every word I can think I was I was embarrassed U totally I could have replaced nine nine of them at after nine or 10 I could have changed anybody they were all as bad as as each other just I just can’t believe we played like that I’m really I’m sh shocked just so bad that’s not good enough that kind of performance is you know s manager I’m telling you um get manager but we’re still up [Music] [Applause] [Music] there Neil Cooper’s words prove to be cruy prophetic days after that defeat by Wala the amiable Scott and the club are going in different directions we knew where the chairman was down we knew there were meeting planned for that day we just thought it was going to be a football meeting and obviously decision by whoever was taken I SP to Neil within 5 minutes after it and it was a total shock to everybody concerned within the club Lads had all all through the season that that there was jobs opening and uh Neila be linked with him but um it was totally out the blue and totally unexpected so um we knew as much as anyone else did that Neil had left the club and that was it so we just had to come in TR him as normal it was really strange uh I was surprised with it being uh so close to a big game but you know the the Chairman’s got a decision to make and that’s it he’s got to do what he thinks right for the club nobody saw it coming but um I think in a way when it happened the timing of it we were all concentrating on the Ballou game so we couldn’t um we couldn’t let anything distract us you know we had to just concentrate on getting that point that we need to get in the playoffs and uh in in that way then the time of it probably helped us out a little bit because uh nobody was dwelling on the on the fact that Neil had gone it was more of a case of well look forward and and and make sure we getting these playoffs the clubs are most important thing on this and and yes Neil Cooper’s doing ever so well Chris Turner mik new all have been and gone uh but the club’s the main thing this club will always be here and whoever’s in charge or manager uh nobody’s bigger than the club and uh whoever made the decision uh whether it’s the right decision or wrong decision the club’s the main thing and the main thing was to try and get the point at Bournemouth and for that vital match on the south coast Martin Scott picked the team as caretaker manager I think a lot of the lads found it hard to call him gaffy you know because uh for so long I’ve known him as Scotty or Martin but um I don’t think he’s changed from his point of view but uh few of the lads will find it difficult with a new name I felt we deserve to be in the playoffs and we deserve to finish in the top six and and okay it’s easy to speak after the game but I was total belief and fully confident that players go down the Ballou and get the right result you wanted the experience you know just to try and help the younger Lads out in the team and and try and shout and and push people around out there for for what was a big game you know so I was delighted just to get back involved and there obviously delighted that he put a bit of trust in me and in my ability he came down to the last game and then we we said you know that’s it uh it’s 90 minutes we got to we got to do it and at the end we did the target was straightforward Harley pool needed only to draw to guarantee the playoffs Bournemouth had to win to take P’s sixth place in the table and they took a first half lead it’s aimed forward by Robson and dy’s on the end of it and dy’s hitter has cracked it off the post and heartley po a level Matty robson’s cross and what a time to score your first senior goal for Harley po bournemouth’s Corner whipped in there’s James hater again he’s got another free header Butler twisting and turning Butler puts the ball across Anthony swy at the for poast Anthony Sweeny and this could be the goal that gets pulled back in the playoffs Tommy Butler went down the left wing uh cut back which he’s a tricky player and he can always do and um he fled one to the back stick and I can remember getting on the end of it but I thought I thought I was going to get challenged but it didn’t seem to be anyone there anywhere anyway it’s nice to score in par and gos BR I don’t think there’s a bad time to score any goal but um if it had been just one of the other Lads that I scored I’d been just as happy so to the lottery of the playoffs yet again a personal Triumph for Martin Scott but after a season’s work only what the team deserved you know for us to get that point it meant so much um because you know we achieved what we achieved last season um against against what people were saying that you know they could only do it one season and you know it’ll be harder for them this year we we’ve gone and do it again although the players had a celebration after the game upstairs with the families it was a dry bus there a bit of music the old arish music came out for a couple of hours it was a long trip from Bournemouth uh and by time we got sort of two hours down the road uh the players were asleep was emotionally and mentally and physically they’re very tired uh but then after that we’re totally focused to bring on tra which was a a great game for us on on a Friday night the mood was positive for fans and team at the annual Player of the Year Awards night Joel Porter got the vote for the supporters top man not much celebrating for the players not that they’d never won a playoff game I wasn’t actually aware of that start until the until the game came around um I was I wasn’t here for the first two uh two times at the club were in the playoffs so um obviously when once that got brand around well we’re at home in our first leg you know we’ve got to go and give it try and try and get this win got to take something to to tr here um for the away tie because we know you know they’re a very strong team they haven’t finished third um for nothing really we kind of wanted trir because we we play them twice and especially at home uh even though they beat us one nil we had many chances and we looked like us as we were the better team we were long overd a win and I think we put in a decent performance against try and got the win we needed previous generations of harleypool fans never used to to see their team fighting for promotion now for the sixth season running the club were looking to move up a division tramy had finished comfortably third this was pool’s ninth playoff semi-final surely it had to be their turn to win a brilliant atmosphere he needed to have a bit of influence to get a good seat’s come forward for it Williams and Sweeny are in there so to Da and Boyd up down to Boyd [Applause] Harley Paul’s leading scorer gives them first blood in the playoff [Applause] semi-final boy could get in again here trying to pull it back for Williams chance for a second and it’s wasted what an opportunity and Dy spurns [Applause] it gets the layoff from h rore trying to line it up for Rankin who’s pushed it in mcateer’s Direction it’s a good block from Nelson Roberts kick taken out of the goalkeeper Hands by the flick from in [Applause] goodison building up more momentum again here now boy looking for another and he has has done it Harley Paul are firmly in control of this semi-final now with a double for Adam voy Delight for the caretaker The Man He’s promoted to be alongside him as his assistant Robson what a save a crucial save from ACA now Roberts by barisford m here looking for Eugene daddy he’s brought it down well and he’s got his shot away it’s a crucial save vital save and then Robson was back there to help him out as [Applause] well now Taylor hum looking to build on this momentum Daddy and this time he struck It Wide two great chances for Eugene daddy everything went for us and obviously for Adam to score the goals was was a bonus uh but I knew after the game press was saying the game’s all over the ti is over but I knew what to expect and I think a 2-n 2N score line is a dodgy dodgy score line I mean right throughout the team even the subs that came on you know everyone was so determined that night and uh we knew that we had to take something down there cuz it was going to be difficult and um I think 2-0 were thoroughly deserved to win and we were the better team I didn’t have much to do in the whole game and that’s that’s a bit uh that’s a bit weird for a goalkeeper you know you get cold or you get out of game but uh you know I just I just you know you got to keep on your TOS for 90 minutes especially those games and uh you know I did I think that saving that proved to be crucial one we came out here and we knew we had to win um and try and keep a clean sheet and we did that everything went right for us Bo scored two great goals excuse me um and yeah you know everything went really well obviously Bo his two goals obviously his second one was uh was what Adam was all about really um but you know he was quick to say after the game as well that you know everybody did their part um the back four and the keeper kept a clean sheet and Midfield Midfield work the socks off and obviously the the front two got um got provided the goals so um going you know going there two up um put us in in a strong position even though you know they were always probably going to be the favorites because they were at home again yeah I think the the first one you know was just a a long throw great flick by John dely and it just it’s just fell to me feet and I had a decent touch and then just put stuck it in the second one uh I think Joel’s play me a little pass to and I think I’ve pushed a passing Defender and thankfully you know I’ve been a d shot but off Corner he’s excellent yeah his uh his touch and his ability is uh Second and on at the club and um I think this season and the back end the last he’s brought in a lot more work rate which has helped this game along massively I didn’t and anticipate the way try were going to play in the second leg they were absolutely outstanding and so to pron Park nine long months ago on the Whirl harleypool had lost their opening away game by two goals to one the same score would be enough to send PS to Cardiff and their first play off final it was always going to be tight ranking mcer gets it Taylor he’s picked out Paul Hall Mark Rankin peris they have done it in the final 5 minutes trir have drawn the tie level could it be more playoff heartbreak for Harley PA but I thought we defended well I thought as a team we worked hard yes we were pushed back yes it looked like we were sitting on a two-goal lead but it was totally against what I wanted I wanted to come out and try and get a goal we didn’t play well as I mean we didn’t go and cut them open you know with their passes the back four and the keeper were were immense every single one of them um that played along the back four in in the net that night you know we’re outstanding if it hadn’t been for them it wouldn’t have gone to penalties oh it was awful we never I never got a kick and uh but like I said the team game and the lads at the back defended really well you know probably the best defensive display of the Season we knew they were going to be the better team um cuz they had great home form all year as as we did and you know we battered them down here so we knew it was going to be tough um but we we had the two goal cushion and uh we played on that and the boys defended with their lives and Demian goal was absolutely fantastic and um deserved everything he got after the game the boys helped me a lot the back four especially were brilliant uh but uh yeah basically just did my job that’s what I’m there for I think so yeah it was I think it was an allar around good performance once they got the second goal you could see their players sit back and accept the 2-n and wanted it to go into the into extra time but I knew with our fitness levels that we cause them problems the extra time and I think we did that [Applause] Roberts cross hum what a save daddy goes for the followup right out to humph try be a place had to fling bodies at that danger still not over Butler on the strike from Sweeny and humph hits it it’s a good finish to the game this from Harley PA but can they get the goal to take them to Cardiff Sween is looking to break free of the shackles of Jackson goes down looking for a penalty his appeals are rejected once he went to penalties I knew the way Demetrius has played it was outstanding we got a chance and we 6’4 and he’s he’s a big lad uh I felt he going to save a couple of penalties at least and that’s how it turned out if he gets to that point there’s not much to lose for a goalkeeper cuz uh nobody’s going to blame you if you can the penalty yeah you try to remember you know through throughout the whole game uh every every penalty taker which side he prefers or the shape of his body and uh you know if you make a good judgment and with a bit of luck that’s what that’s what saves penalties I think they’re always nervy I think you go around asking the lads that want to take a penalty because obviously they’re the most confident and we had five confident Lads obviously uh TKS missed his penalty but the other four scored so it’s it took it to sudden death and then you’re on players that maybe don’t want to take a penalty which is which is a bit tougher but uh thankfully we got [Applause] through oh he’s the hero again constantopoulos it’s been that sort of night for the [Music] [Applause] goalkeeper and whole scores makes himself look big not much of a run up and a save from mberg and tinkler hangs his head in despair it’s Gareth Roberts oh in off the UND side of the bar here Joel Porter who lines up to face John Acer and Porter [Applause] scores this for 3-2 it is real car behind that Robson has to flank all that out and he does and he scores and it’s three all they’re effectively at sudden death now Chris dagal scored twice in League games against Harley paol this season crucial kick and he’s got it in Chris Westwood who’s been part of every single playoff heartache that Harley pool have suffered has to score this or it will be more heartbreak for the men from the Northeast it’s Westwood and he’s done it a massive massive credit has got to go to those the first five lads who went to Martin and said I want to take one because it’s a difficult situation obviously we’ve as a club have been on the receiving end of being beat um I personally obviously um missed it um which is not nice it’s not a nice way to end a football game especially something so important um so those you know those five that that stepped forward took huge character um and I think they should be praised for that the little man against the big man who’s been big in every sense so far for heartley PA but that’s Unstoppable Sweeney has to score no two ways about it and he does getting so far down the order Brian little might have to take one here in Sharps it is again not much of a run up here oh and it’s safe yeah I saw him coming to take the penalty didn’t didn’t look confident and uh he looked kind of kind of scared that’s why you know the the penalties before I was trying to stay still and concentrate but uh I saw him being like that and I started giving him a bit of jumps in in the line just to put him off and uh yeah at the end he worked I think I knew if I had to take another one uh where I was going to put it well Richie humph who missed a crucial kick in a playoff semi-final against chelham which hit the bar the goalkeeper and the post and stay out is now stepping forward to take the kick that could take harly P to Cardiff he’s done it he sets up a reunion with his former Club Sheffield Wednesday at the end of the month I didn’t know this at the time obviously having seen it again it looked as though I didn’t realize you know we through to cardic until I seen the boys running towards me and that was a special feeling seeing uh seeing all the boys run towards us um because we are such a tiic group um and not only the teammates you know they’re really good fans it was poetic in a because it couldn’t it couldn’t have landed on a better person to score that last penalty um I was with him after the chelham game and he was distraught he just didn’t know what to do with himself it just shows the character he is as well that he’ll step up and manage to score that go it was Rich’s old Club Sheffield Wednesday in the playoff final and it was an early start for the py Army but it was all a new experience for every heartley pool fan the response from the whole town was fantastic thousands set off for Cardiff and the players made sure they looked theart for the biggest day Harley paol had ever known when we actually got to C for us that was another step on on the ladder uh just moving slowly but but carefully upwards and um it was a big objective to us to get to Cardiff one day and to to actually get there was what we hoped for what we’d uh achieved and we were very pleased at doing it our Lads were fantastic the support the town I mean 16,000 people to go down there we had 10 10,000 went to sundland to increase that by 50% I think a lot of people from the Northeast decided to have a day out I’m sure they enjoyed it we did uh I sat when the ground was empty and had a look at it and just to think that Harley was coming out onto a stage like that um we were very proud Sheffield Wednesday might have been the big club with a big support but harleypool fans were just bursting with pride their team never let them down for a moment what a day for caretaker manager Martin [Applause] Scott peock looks for r Castle it’s a good ball in there and John Paul MCG a scored for Sheffield Wednesday right on the brink of halim he’s looking for quarter from it oh it got to flick back and would you believe it they’ve got The Equalizer and it’s Aven Williams the Welshman in cardic who’s brought hard all [Applause] left Dy just on the scene gets his head to it and Harley Paul are in raptures well managers live and die by their substitution sometimes and what a substitution this has been but now it’s all turned around and this is Adam voy and that’s only just wide’s cross tobert has a stab is thought would miss the rest of the season plays a crucial part in it by scoring the goal that draws Wednesday level pools have been less than 10 minutes away from the championship now a man short the odds were cruy sacked against them as they prepared for extra [Applause] time Nelson out of trouble from the plan but it’s Fallen to Glenn wheen and he goes on wheelen yes Sheffield wednesy heading in the right direction now is Willam goal enough to take them all the way to the championship Nelson to the right at it but it’s Gavin Sten against the [Music] wall one minute is the indicated stoppage time they could finish it here anyway it’s Drew tobat and the youngest man on the pitch at 18 years of age has Sheffield Wednesday heading for the championship we’re outstanding I thought they from an entertainment point of view it was a great game to watch great game two sets of players who were really a lot of commitment things didn’t go for us today injuries sending off penalty uh but that’s the way Football goes but tell you what we’ll walk out the stadium tonight we we’ll be we’ll be proud of them players out there I haven’t seen it yet myself on the T but everyone’s seeing it there wasn’t much in it and U to send them off as well you know it was just a double blow for us who were 9 minutes away from being promoted you know and um that’s hard to take the little incident like that not wrecked our dreams but went a long way towards it yeah it’s horrible you know to lose here it’s it’s devastating you know I think H you can see by all the lad’s reactions at the end of the game it’s it’s absolutely horrible but fair play to all the fans you know they cheered us off the pitch and you know I’m just delighted that they backed us all the way to lose a goal is hard enough but to lose a man as well especially when it went into extra time when we we needed all the energy we could have but um these things happen in football great season overachieved yet again gone one step further than last season which is a great achievement the club’s moving forward uh the backing the chairman giv us is is different class uh we’ll get the players up we’ll have a drink together with the families upstairs we’ll be together we’ll enjoy the summer and we’ll come back a bigger stronger better better Squad next season the players they knew what they had to do and just needed that little bit of encouragement and the respect they had for Martin already so Martin did a fantastic job for the chairman had called on Martin Scott when Neil Cooper was asked to stand down as manager how difficult was it to part with Cooper it was a very tough decision in the sense of um the effect it was going to have but we wouldn’t have made the decision if we weren’t if we didn’t feel it was 100% correct that decision um it it was difficult in the sense that uh Neil’s a a good friend still is there was a lot of issues which um we talked to Neil about and Neil I think was um receptive to um to what we had to say to him uh obviously he he would have liked to have continued onwards into the the bornemouth game but um I think at the time it was the best decision to make next season harleypool will be aiming for a seventh promotion challenge in as many years Ken hodcroft dismisses any suggestion the club isn’t ready to step up well we hear that quite a lot actually that uh the chairman doesn’t want promotion the Ia can’t afford it uh they don’t want that sort of success um we run uh we run an oil business which uh is worldwide and um that’s successful so why would we not want a football club to be successful and I think if we had gone up into the championship we would have held our own um Harley pool um are quite capable of playing in that division we’re try to keep the momentum going but one thing we we won’t say at the beginning of next season is that we must get promoted uh we’ve never never said that in the time we’ve owned the club and we’re not about to do it now we want the lads to go out and enjoy themselves uh to do the best for us uh don’t embarrass us and uh if we get success on that principles then I think everybody can uh really enjoy it when Chris came when he came here I think six years ago seven years ago and the new owners took over I you know they put the platforms down for to enable this club to go forward um and it’s certainly done that obviously you know they had three playoff defeats um before we got promoted you know finally automatic and then last year obviously nobody expected us to do as well as we did um to reach the playoffs again and then reach it again this year and to go to Cardiff that’s got that’s an improvement three weeks after Cardiff Martin Scott walked into a press conference as harle paol United’s fourth manager in less than three years and for the former Sunderland fullback it was Third Time Lucky twice before he’d applied for the manager’s job Martin deserves the position of manager of Harley pool United uh he got some experience that none of us could have planned for did excellent the players are right behind him the club and I are right behind him I think he’s made the right decision uh I’ve been at the club five years I know how the chairman I and other players how they all work and uh I think it’s the right it’s certainly the right move for me personally and I think it’s the right decision for the club it’s going to be tough the expectations uh from the fans is going to be really high and I think they’ll expect me to to take us up next season which is going to be difficult because there’s some big big clubs in this division Scott’s three predecessors as manager have all been successful in his 5 years at the club Martin has been youth team reserve and assistant manager continuity in The Dugout will keep the good work going we’ve got a good squad of players a good unity and a great togetherness they know the standards I expected myself so uh the standards I expect of them are going to be really high they know that anyway uh R because the last four games and obviously the two years assistant we know what what sort of character I am and what what’s expected nothing different I expect them to give me everything because I’ll give them everything he knows the club inside out he knows a lot of the lads who are in the team now a lot of those Lads as you know come through our youth system and he he actually brought them on um so you can’t have a better Rapport between players and manager and at the same time keeping the the necessary distance between the management role and the playing role this club is certainly going the right direction on and off the pitch uh it’s not just the players everything off the pitch in in the offices uh in the commercial side it’s it’s good and uh it’s it’s got a sound Foundation uh but now it’s my job to try and take this take the club to the next level which is obviously on the pitch uh which we came close last year but we didn’t make it we fell at the final edle obviously at Cardiff which is uh disappointing but there’s lots of positives in that and we’ve got to look to get the players heads off the ground and and they’re disappointed initially but on the on the way back we we looked at the positives and now we performed last season and we we’ll be ready come the first of July for the preseason them them set of players will be ready for another tough season ahead and hopefully we can go one step further [Music]
