Mounted to Hope 20Five rims tubeless at 20psi
Rim dimensions: 25mm deep, 24mm external width and 20mm internal width
Mounting –
These seemed super hard to mount compared to 40mm Maxxis which take a single 100psi shot from my airshot canister.
These took about 6 or more attempts with 140psi shots(not fun with a basic track pump).
Once popped on no leaks at all and no psi change overnight.
Off Road –
I normally use 38/40mm tyres but opted for the 45mm as my frame can take them.
So not sure how much is due to extra volume or the tyre itself so please keep that in mind.
The tyres are very forgiving when hitting rocks/roots and feels closer to how a MTB feels.
Gripped loose gravel as well dry mud no side slipping or bike wiggles( ground is baked currently so no mud to test).
When getting on the shoulder nubs there is a bit of vibration but nothing too bad.
Rolling resistance seems fine, I didn't feel like I had to change gear any more or less compared to Ravagers or Terra Trail.
The rubber used seems harder than something like a Maxxis Ravager so I am not sure how well it will be on slippery surfaces.
On Road –
These aren't great for the road, I noticed a bit of self steering ( higher psi would fix but then no fun offroad).
Even with that at 30kph on the road they seem fine with no excess vibration.
SS vs SK vs X1
SS – If you have entered a road race or triathlon. ( Now the Maxxis Velocita is getting harder to find this is a great road option)
SK – If you commute and sometimes go on dry pack mud. ( Continental Terra Trail cheaper option but wears out quicker)
X1- If you spend more time off road than on road and want a bit more cushioning and grip. ( Not sure this has replaced the Maxxis Ravagers as my favourite off road gravel tyre but it's early days).
