Need a new bike recommendation

Hello,

New to regularly biking around the place. Quite enjoying it. Pulled this one out the shed, mongoose cross way 350, quite old, looking for something new, what brands should I look out for ?? I really just want a nice light ride where I can take it out Sunday mornings and commute to the shops or to the local cafe. Don’t mind spending a bit 600-1000.
