Using bike lockers at train station

Hello I am a new bike owner and can’t be bothered with the hassle of having my bike stolen!
I have a D lock which I would use on my bike but I think this is supped to be for the back wheel and seat?
I wondered what people use for lockers at the train station where you can padlock it from the outside (see photo I got from Google for reference)
Any safety tips welcome!
