Brand NEW Avanti ‘Evero’ took me to Holyhead… or did it?! (11/06/24). I planned to ride with Avanti West Coast on one of their new class 805 Evero trains from Birmingham to Holyhead, however my initial plan did go slightly melons up. I still managed to check out the new train though, AND ride along the beautiful North Wales Coastline, AND finally spend some time in Holyhead!

hey everyone GES trains here you join me early this morning just outside of skirm ham New Street where I’m about to go for a train journey to hollyhead today now the reason I’m up so early it is 5:00 a.m. at the moment is because I’m taking the opportunity to ride one of Avanti’s brand new class 805 AO buo trains now these trains they entered service just over a week ago on the 2nd of June so yeah I’m very excited to give them a try and also to get myself back to angles see it’s been a little while right let’s go again all right see I’m down on platform 4 and my train has just pulled in looking all shiny on the outside it’s 8055 I was half expecting this train to be coupled up to another one I think it usually is but yeah uh it seems to be just this one today the 805s are made up of five coaches four standard class and one first class I’m going to be traveling in standard class today so what I’m going to do is go get on the train and basically just have a walk through of the entire thing and uh see what facilities are on board now are these the lovely sliding doors where you just put your hand to them and they open oh yes so satisfying now there are 299 seats overall on one of these units which is over 50 more than what a five car super Voyager has so here at the end of Coach a we have wheelchair space we also have some solo seating do like sitting on my own sometimes we’ve got a accessible toilet here have a quick look at this oh yes long mirror for check myself out another one up there yeah super new and shiny looking to at this we’ve got information displays up by the doors um are currently listing off all the stations we’re calling at on this one I’ve just noticed it says we’re going to crew I hope it goes on to Hol head after this I think as we enter Coach B here we’ve got the onboard shop got some smaller inaccessible toilets as well not uh too small in here the bins are located in the vestile areas oh my days it’s so warm walking through here so you’ve got overhead luggage space throughout and then bigger luggage racks at the end of the coaches there’s some bike storage space located at the end of Coach D there’s also uh some at the end of Coach B you do have to make sure you book a reservation if you’re bringing a bike on board and finally this is the first class coach can actually see through the windows I’m sure I’ll try out first class one day but for now got for to stand the class and uh I find myself a seat goodone 530 W apologies I’m going to use another PA to announce for and we’re off I have come to sit in the seat actually next to my Reserve seat because um well the high majority of seats on this train are currently available I am on this full service now for 2 hours and 52 minutes and I am really looking forward to traveling along the North Wales Coastline again it is one of my favorite railway lines although I think I might not be on the correct side for the coastal views so yeah may have to move over to that side at some point also I am traveling on an advanced single today which cost an absolute amazing price of just £120 with a rail C [Music] [Music] sitting in this seat right now it proper feels like I’m on a pendolino yeah it does seem to be a very similar if not the same seat where the plug socket is located on a pendolino though on the 805 uh you’ve got a 3 pin power socket and two USB ports in front of you in between two seats there is wireless charging at the bigger four- seater tables but yeah back here at my ear line style seats we’ve got uh the usual armrest slide out table you’ve also got which I really love this reading light above the table uh you click it once for on click it again and it dims it ever so slightly and the most important question of course is do the 805s have Neco Hooks and happy to say they do I’m also thinking there’re supposed to be on board Wi-Fi but but no network is uh coming up at the moment for [Music] me hey there’s even a map up on the screen going to use that for the start new vlog [Music] well usually at crew this is where the train switches between electric power and Diesel power uh yeah the bot trades are helping to reduce carbon emissions and it is avant’s goal to reach Net Zero by 2031 but today the service has actually been cancelled between crew and hollyhead so yeah it’s gone melons up we were told on the train that there’s going to be a train in half an hour that we can get through to hollyhead and uh it is a transport for Welles one yeah t we to the rescue yeah I don’t know what the reason was behind that service getting cancelled then but there are going to be 13 of those class 805 trains which will be replacing the super voyagers Advan are also going to be receiving 10 seven coach class 807 ofos in the future I think they’ll be running on the London to Liverpool and London to Blackpool North lines but uh yeah for now I’m going to hop on to 158 841 which will take me to Holly head and uh I I don’t need a poo at the minute cuz I could have had a poo at crew aome here at least I’ve got wifi now to [Music] get believe yeah it’s get cold the waves are crashing in when [Music] the Banger I would it wasn’t that long ago since I was at Banger in Northern Island I am really happy to see all these views out of the window again we are just crossing over the meni straight on the britanna bridge through to the aisle of angles now and uh yeah I think it’s about 40 minutes off arriving at the Terminus we’re just making a stop at I still got it also Stags in me Discord server has just informed me that the reason the Avanti train was cancelled to hollyhead was because there was a shortage of train crew so yeah cheers for that well I’ve arrived into Holly head 2 hours after I was schedule to be here it’s really lovely to see this station without all the scaffolding up now the reason I wanted to come back to hollyhead was because every time I’ve been here in the past I’ve pretty much just filmed in and around the station but I really want to go and actually you know have a look around the place I think this is the aisle of Angley Coastal path that I’m currently making my way along but where I’m off to I do have a good view of it already it is the Hol keep want to say Hollywood hollyhead Breakwater I’m your light the sun against your dark clouds will always be [Music] gu looks as though there’s a few abandoned buildings down here W look at this one that is very interesting to look [Music] at all righty I’m having a little Wonder along the break water now a break water is basically a structure that provides protection against Tides this one is 1.7 m long I am going to have a walk all the way along it to the break waterer Lighthouse which sits right at the very end it’s more of a track that it look there walking down to the lighthouse up getting splashed by the Sea H we’ve got some fairies pool up here Irish Fair St line it is absolutely beautiful everywhere you look around though with all the flowing water got the mountains SL Hills back [Music] [Music] there the sun against your dark clouds I will always be your guide in life squishy babies I’ve made it to the lighthouse it’s actually really quite cold down here at the end but I’m around up me video here so um yeah it may have gone over slightly melons up riding with aany down to hollyhead today but um hey at least I’ve made it but uh no it was wonderful to try out the new class 805s and my favorite thing about them I must say was the Super echoey announcements it was a very entertaining to listen to those also it’s been amazing to get out and have a walk through Holly head and to end up down here by the coast thank you very much for watching everyone buzy bu

Facing backwards? I’d want my money back.
Great video, love your vlogs travelling around. Since i finished work last year theres only one 5, and its 5pm. Best wishes x
Nice to see taking a ride on the Avanti West Coast Class 805 Evero. They are such lovely trains and the Class 807 should be in service before the end of 2024.
Well I didn't know Avanti did a Holyhead service from Birmingham (TfW do). I thought they all did Euston/Holyhead via Trent Valley?
As an avid cruise ship spotter – lovely to see ambassador cruises “ambience” in port at Holyhead in your video!
Nice video G! I myself finally managed to get a ride on an Avanti 805 out to Llandudno Junction last week, though it took a fair bit of chasing around and a bit of luck to find one that was in operation. These new trains don't tilt like the old Voyagers did, and I believe may have to be limited to 110mph on the west coast mainline (I wonder if anyone could verify that?) The upside is that they do seem to accelerate quite fast, and the livery is very handsome looking.
As an aside…now that TfW is running so many 197s, I'd think they'd have have plenty of extra 158 units floating around that they could just run 4-car 158s nearly all the time now. I love TfW, but they always seem to run these 2-car 158 units on the most rammed services, and it can be pure madness if you ever get trapped on one…
Train cancelled at Crewe, that was a bit poo 🤣
Holyhead breakwater used to have its own railway until 1981. A class 01 shunter would occasionally run along it with maintenance trains
Are they still doing Rail/Sail to/from Dublin via Holyhead? I've done that a number of times. Once I got booked onto a ferry that was in drydock, so not only no crew, no ship!
nice vlog g only done holyhead by car cheers
Lovely vlog G, I do need to go back to North Wales, miss it, be well x
Awesome stuff!
Hi G, lovely trains. Another interesting vlog. Thanks for posting
Thank you for sharing G. The 805s look good.
Thanks for including one of my faves words in the world vestibule.Maybe we should see if you can get other words in this wonderful vlog of yours; maybe Canary and Alan Pickford next time?? xxxx
If train so great how come you are the only one on it
Avanti are not long for this world.
If anything they are getting worse.
Were you wondering when you set off you would make it to your destination this time 🙈
I was in Colwyn Bay last week, and at the time I wanted to photograph these new Evero's (about 7.30 am), I reckon half of them had been turned short at Crewe or Stafford.
These trains must be immediately put into service on the Manchester to Holyhead route as quickly as possible – additional service extensions from Hull and Leeds via Manchester Victoria direct to Holyhead must be put in place as part of a wider and massive overhaul of the current SailRail product offering between Manchester and Holyhead, which must happen as quickly as possible, with timings to match ferry check-ins and ferry arrivals from Dublin, in conjunction with Irish Ferries and Stena
I was not surprised at shortage of Train Crew. The Aptitude Tests for Trainee Drivers is harder than that for Commercial Pilots with a thorough working knowledge of Signal Electronic Configurations and you never entirely complete all the Tasks in the Aptitude Test in time given !
awsome … holyhead breakwater .. where the class 01's lived .. ish
Better than Amtrak 😂
Holyhead is on Holy Island, not Anglesey….
Good old 158 to the rescue! Funny how a train of more than 30 years vintage comes to the aid of a brand new train.
So Avanti were pulling a Northern then!
