okay ladies and gentlemen we’re on round two of our evening session here at the pav Deo in haka espa for the 2024 World Cup Masters veterans and legends inline hockey the biggest and best inline hockey tournament anywhere in the world and we have what can only be described as the highlight of the day and that’s saying something because we’ve been treated to some quite special talent so far all week and tonight but here we have the Monsters of Rock the monsters of hockey the gold medal holders and certainly the gold medal intenders Team USA in fine fighting form against Sweden who have played themselves very well into this tournament and have turned out to be a complete force to be reckoned with earlier feing team GB by only a fraction much to their great disappointment I am delighted ecstatic even to be joined by uh former teammate and uh uh former colleague of mine in the GB squads many years ago and uh GB veteran currently this year former GB player and legendary figure in the world of inline for Great Britain both ATF and uh and Furs and other championships and uh just generally uh an all-around Superstar hockey player Andrew Silo Smiley it’s great to have you here mate hello Peter it’s good to be here how you doing I’m really really na excited about this yeah you’ve been on your feet all day it’s amazing what you do but it’s this is a big one USA this is uh this is exciting to see these guys been watching a lot of these players over the years uh so this is uh it’s going to be a a big game I’m so impressed I mean you know there’s plenty to talk about in relation to the USA team because they they’re packed with Talent we can see the way that they’ve been playing all week it’s it’s very intentional so I think it’s right that we spend a little bit time talking about Sweden because they’ve just kind of in some ways uh maybe it’s wrong to say snuck their way into the tournament but they’re just quietly uh stealthily just doing the job doing the work and beating teams that are great all the way along to earn their place in this semi-final tonight yeah absolutely they’ve got incredible resilience and they don’t change their plan they just keep keep playing the their system and they have an ability to to turn the screw not many teams can do that you know they when their goals down they they just have that ability to turn the screw and turn it around and uh it’ll be interesting to see how they do it against USA cuz this is a strong USA team and if they go up a few goals you know let’s see if Sweden can do what I’ve been doing consistently through the tournament it could be really difficult and uh one thing I noticed certainly about Sweden too and we talked a little bit about it briefly this afternoon physical fitness and and that being maybe a factor in terms of their resilience you know they just don’t get as tired as everyone else and even if we’re talking about percentages of one and twos that difference makes a big deal in a long tournament like this they I think they played themselves in by just being less tired than others yeah I think it’s maybe something that’s embedded in the Swedish culture around fitness and health but if you watch the way they play they are very efficient you know they don’t they don’t over skate they are they’ve always got three four guys behind the park and so they’re not chasing the game you know they they just seem to be on top of the game so there’s something about their efficiency which is impressive and that’s in quite some stark contrast to this American Style run and Gun all guns blazing After Burner Top Gun sort of forwards which is just you it’s eye-catching it’s theatrical it’s fabulous to watch you can’t take your eyes off them but it’s different it’s a different game and uh and it can either trouble Sweden or it can to their hands we we’ll see we we will find out the next hour we really do have the Borg V Mack and roll before us in terms ofline hockey Masters there you go yeah absolutely Americans will be wondering if the swedes cannot be serious let’s see okay so starting line what do we got here for Sweden we got Johan Leah L Lilia I think I’m saying that right uh I’ve seen him win a few gold medals in over the years with double HF team so this is a guy with a you know huge background pedigree yeah huge pedigree yeah it’s uh he’s impressive to watch this Sweden team is not going to be an easy roll over just heav eyes on the puck already and it’s a great win of the faceoff too yeah nice nice win look at this four check nothing’s quite so phenomenal as the American for check they are just so hungry it’s it’s aggressive very aggressive but look how Sweden are are handling it I mean it’s just they you know they make a pick make it difficult for the uh us team to come through and then they’re off look at this your hands on good pass on here here we go oh just could make quite as much of it as they should have done maybe saw some Bright Lights a little bit there in the headlights thinking that they could be onto an early goal but look at the danger counter attack look at that it’s so dangerous like a trampoline they want to punish it like it’s oh this guy’s dangling yeah okay maybe a little bit equal to the Americans in terms of the dingles and dangles got some skills in this tool kit yeah Turner for us number 80 with the [Applause] dangles and that’s what’s great about inline hockey you get to see that stuff right you know I mean we’re seeing a lot more in the NHL now this kind of skill level but well and some would argue that there’s there’s an influence of inline hockey I think massively you look at Bard Bard is playing through the summer playing inline hockey through the summer and he he’ll probably play again this summer which is insane but the llies guys you know that have played a high level inline hockey played in the NHL owe it to their their time on the on the in lines and you know with with inline hockey I think that there’s a chance especially for the younger Generations that are coming through to play with a little Freedom absolutely you know you’re handling the puck more this is the thing what people don’t realize the more you’re on the park the better you’re going to be yeah and uh if you’re if you’re a young kid 12 13 14 and you’re playing four and four you know you’re going to you’re going to see the puck a lot more and I and I think dare I say it I think it makes it more fun yeah we have to be careful what we say here well I don’t know well we don’t have to say we don’t have to be careful here because this is no but it it it amazes me bu reputation of not being that very careful with what I say as you know pet I live in the CH Republic and line hocky is fully embraced it’s seen as a as a great way to offse you know to improve hockey offseason yeah extra League is a is a huge deal but having come from the UK we’re still seeing that animosity towards the game from the ice hockey I think but I’d like to see that change it’s kind of a phenomenon and it rolls around a lot especially in the in the more traditional circles I mean it’s A Hard Sell in places like Canada USA probably not so much oh he’s got a penalty here we go that’s well won that has got a penalty he’s not happy with this he’s not going to he’s not going to like that maybe he feels like the Americans have played for that a little bit yeah he’s looked for it yeah it was pretty soft but you know that’s the way that they play in Europe as well it’s a little bit light touched the Americans are always going to try and play for it usually they would say that they feel like they’re the victims of that so what do we got on the power play [Applause] here I’ll be very surprised if it’s not Brin Morris well we got Brit Morris number three Brit Morris and I go way back B Morris won a few Notch medals Brit and I together we played uh for the California slip jaacks back in 98 so you went over there and played I played in uh in and played with Brin yeah we he and I played for hyper and uh great times he’s a phenomenal player it’s great to see him out there still doing still doing his thing Brin took a little break uh last year from uh the team and then has come back in and I think he’s really added something to the team an extra layer that really adds a uh yeah and makes this American side a t to force I agree yeah he’s got a good presence and um lots of experience he’s been in these tight situations so many times he’s got a really cool head yeah and it’s embracing that fabulous head of hair as well yeah yeah what a way to carry it it’s a great look California Sunshine lifestyle in full display and one brenn Morris but what a hockey player yeah he’s a great hockey player and a great addition to this USA team oh it’s given it wow go that was the for sure the keeper doesn’t know that it went yeah he rip that top shelf our colleague Dwayne boss says in his experience he knows that there’s a different sound that the different posts make so I’ll leave it to your viewers to decide whether you think that that was a ping or a pong was definitely in in and out yeah I think with these goals he just uh you know they come out so quick off the [Applause] bars they’re going to fight that that Sweden uh they’re they’re campaigners they they they they know how to argue with the ref and it might need be for this call but for the next one but yeah I mean I as quick as that was we we know that went in and out and there’s no doubt about it I think there’s a little bit of niggl and I I don’t know if it’s just me but I I get a sense that maybe the crowd has just gone a little away from the US well there’s definitely uh you know people like to see Sweden do well yeah but let’s see normally the Americans in full voice hollering out their USA chance yeah and I think we’ve got another USA game going on haven’t we we’ve got the 45s or 50s happening over at the Joker rink so they’re divided uh now and so they won’t have that extra boost from their fifth man out there he’s got another penalty wow it’s not it’s not a feature that I would have uh expected from the Americans to play for that although knowing Marty look he’s hurt he went down tough there I think the sweds are tough you know they’re big boys and uh yeah well they’re hockey guys hoey guys yeah we got a a USA team which is predominantly inline guys they’ve come through the inline system you know they played in large State Wars and uh which I love you know I love that there’s obviously a few hockey guys out there as [Music] well but the the kind of hockey that the swedes are might be even just a little bit Next Level and these guys have come from HF right so they it’s a little different you know furz is uh which I don’t I don’t have an issue with I think is just a different game yeah but we definitely see a lot more bumping and in the IHF and these guys have probably trying to adapt to that so let’s settle this debate that kind of rules around here in terms of the North American Leagues you know the Nares and the state Wars and the various different leagues that they got and the those pro teams uh that they throw around and the European leagues you’ve got the French leagues which are rocking and rolling Spanish leagues arguably one of the most organized structures in Europe Italians always been there y check extra leagues yep Y what do you think where where where does your sort of tendency roll around in terms of skill level and organization and and style well I think uh I have a little bit of a bias towards a chech extra League is some of the players that are coming and playing you know we got some guys that are coming from the DL from uh playing extra league in in the CCH Republic are playing inline hockey so it’s it’s a very high level we got an easn West Coast uh easn West sorry League um whereas a Spanish league is just a it’s a different sort of game it’s played on smaller rinks the French league is on smaller rinks as evident did by a lot of the way that the Spanish played too they were so structured when they came on here I was so surprised cuz they they barely got outside of this Center Circle different game you know it really is so what we see in the Czech extra league is that all the games are played on Ice Rings right the the still mats going down yeah whereas uh you know you could be playing frenchly you could be playing in a gymnasium somewhere or a uh purpose SP rink but it’s usually a 40x 20 meter rink the Americans salt on here yeah s’s not doing a bad job of Defending they’re doing well here they’re working hard there’s a snipe on here any minute now lmy shot shot looking for that tipping that’s some sometimes the the only way to beat these goal is some of these goalies are so good and these goals are obviously a little bit smaller than the regulation ice hockey goals so that tipping is key and the the swedes have been doing I mean they did it twice to the to the British team today yeah it’s this it was hard hard to watch but yeah um for me as a as a Brit but you know it’s uh when you got a a goalie like Tanner who is arguably one of the best goalies in this in this division yeah I I’d stti that claim I’d say that pound-for-pound he’s he’s he’s one of the best yeah and were it not for the fact that the oie goie had so many shots on that that’s launched uh that keeper up to the top of the leaderboard in terms of percentages yet you would say that Tanner is just yeah one of the most consistently good right you got to hit the net from there come [Applause] on the Americans being kept out of really dangerous spots they can score from a way out there but look one two three all bunched up a little bit tight but that puck is still bobbling around they’re so tenacious they just never let go it’s quick quick hands great skating oh look at that super got all the time in the world still in the side net and there’s a just a there’s a little bit of a change when when you get a 38 45s and 50s it’s just a little you know hey no no problem little just smile you know don’t in the men’s league you see that aggression Around the Net and everyone wants to kill each other but you know it’s like everyone’s mellowed out a little bit in this division still got a little fight in him though these they tell what I saw I saw the uh Legends match with chck and uh that was a little fruity yeah yeah well the one Czechs and France Czech and France or no Czech and USA and the Legends Joker floor yeah yeah there’s there’s a little face washing going on oh yeah little nose tickling it’s just competitiveness you don’t lose that you know I I was talking about this the other day and I as a player you know and I was talking to Yan L Lilia uh over breakfast just the other day we bumped into each other and we were saying how grateful we are to the organization for you know making this tournament happen because it gives us such inspiration and motivation stay healthy stay fit and to come back a better hockey player you know you you you it’s it’s inspiring and so uh you know we you you need that in your life you we need this thing that’s hard wide in our DNA to play at this level and to to be with your team with your tribe have that feeling in the dressing room you know men’s mental health it’s it mental health 101 you know the the original way that we would deal with it yeah going out with your tribe and going to battle with the as Warriors you know I’m I’m really aware you know as you speak about that that this is a big passion of yours I know I follow you on your Adult Hockey um uh promotion and you’re doing an awful lot to promote sort of adults older men going back and playing at yeah yeah we of course we had our last Camp was like you know nearly 50% women it was it’s great you know amazing and there’s a market for that too and believe me those of you who are going to send me messages uh uh from now for sure we’re thinking about it all the time and we’re looking at the logistical ways to do it and that’s the only reason that we’re not doing it yet is just finding the right way to fit it in it’s it’s on it’s on on its way it’s on the cards yeah that would be great if there are women out there of the right age and who would like to join us and help us organize that you are most welcome yeah well I I think maybe it’s going back to the roots you know maybe bizly is the the place to to start it all off again and uh you know it’s l don’t mind climbing the stairs with your skat on builds from there you know go back to 2012 this whole thing started with you know py and yeah all of that Sharon yeah exactly [Applause] yeah little bit quiet I mean normally I would have expected the Americans to really start to turn on the afterburners but you know literally all tournament as I say it they do it so everyone’s listening that’s a little bubble you couldn’t deal with that the keeper it was just going to Happ yeah but the momentum the speed it’s hard to uh to deal with that you can see him eyb falling it all the way over his shoulder as it gently landed down just behind him yeah but you know that Sweden have done this they’ve gone down two goals nearly in every game and they have just incredible resilience they they find a way that’s what they’ve done consistently through this tournament as they found a way and I think a lot of that is coming from from uh Lilia you know and how he’s uh bringing his team together and I heard him on the bench today against the GB team and he’s so vocal I mean I could hear him up in the stands talking to his I didn’t know what he saying I don’t speak Swedish but you get a sense of how he is leading this team it’s incredible and those are the other aspects to it look you can talk about the speed and the pace of some of these Americans you can talk about the size of the Canadians and their consistency you can talk about all of the stuff that’s going on on on the physical pitch and that is a percentage of the game that is added to especially at this level when the physicality is less of a factor than the psychological than the organizational than the structural and and all those things come into play which is why I think that this level of hockey is is almost even better because you can add that into the mix as genuine ingredients into the overall game yeah yeah you you see a different start because you see such a level of presence on the rink you know because people are in a you know they’re so experienced that they they just have this awareness of the game you know and it makes it nicer I think it makes it look kind of almost more pretty to watch a little bit Yeah interesting yeah yeah I think so when you watch the men senior men at the worlds for example yeah I mean you just the lightning pace and the lightning quick hands but it’s all over so fast you never get a chance to sort of analyze and sense that what we’ve been talking about a lot all this week is like a hockey culture a kind of a national characteristic if one emerges and and you can kind of see it when it when it comes out here this like we said we’ve got this slightly more patient consistent uh experience against the Americans hunger and tenacity and drive and that comes from where they play and how they play and who they play with on a day-to-day right from Year Dot yeah absolutely and I think that’s why we’ve seen the French do so well over the years because of the bringing in Canadian hockey players finish Swedish you know into the French league has has helped the the French league level up yeah Americans a lot of Americans coming over a lot of the American uh national team come over and play in the leagues they’re always being interviewed on fmt yeah big shout out to those guys I reached out to Leonel just before he couldn’t make it here so we would have loved to have had fmt here so it’s great to have spoken to him that would have been cool they’re doing a great job covering the French leagues yeah yeah they’ve made a big difference and of course when you do that that means you get sponsors interested in you know investing in the sport you know when people make an effort like that all of a sudden you get interest yeah it’s always tough I can remember when we first started looking for genuine Partnerships uh in terms of a financial support for the games and someone had said to me hey look this is not the double IHF and you’re never going to get scoda and I was like well you know yeah we’ve got our sight set slightly differently but we’re really delighted to have a number of really good partners that help us support the games and yeah we’re building more and more Michael en is a key part of that cuz he’s the guy in charge of doing that yeah he’s a great guy and uh played against him a few times back in the arch days any thoughts on the man bun sorry say it again Michael is sporting a man bun sport he is sporting a man bun uh he looks like a Peaceful Warrior I’d like to kind of let’s go with that that’s a great moniker yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I I think he’ll like that too yeah yeah I’ve got a lot of time for Michael he’s he’s great for the game and now he’s um you know putting it back playing it forward with his uh his coaching and what he’s doing in the states with his uh I think his kids play and goes to Brazil every now and again does a development camp and brings loads of kid out to them so that’s you know yeah he’s giving back every bit as much as anyone to the game that’s supported him and uh yeah he’s he’s been an instrumental force on the miwa uh committee and helping us Build and Grow our game too so we’re really grateful to to have him on board It’s Kind an iconic figure in in line really yeah yeah I mean he played for Mission back in the day and um that was an incredible hockey team you know the days when Mission were playing against Honey Baked and I was playing for a team out of Vancouver and uh yeah it was just the best times we played D1 which was the time was 22 and under you know oh yeah it’s a long time ago it’s a long time ago [Applause] I think it’s like 25 and under now I think they keep pushing it up so the guys can keep playing but that’s what’s wonderful about this tournament you know coming here and seeing everybody all the guys that I played with and played against um over the years it’s just uh it’s absolute pleasure and not just inline you know from skater hockey from oh yeah you know it’s a lot of guys don’t know about skater hockey and lot of lot of German players big in Europe yeah huge in Europe and world gate does a lot of promotions for it as well too you know playing with the ball for years we got sh on the puck here this is nice to see you know he’s developed himself as a bit of legend in the roll hockey roll hockey game Team USA when they get a chance to get on the puck they they make their chances and and it’s going to be dangerous look at it Sweden are breaking they’re notur look here we got two on one here we go it’s a very strong chance here could score no let’s go play good job ref I’m glad he didn’t call that yeah nice to see that I mean others have said that that might not have been the case in their game yeah they blow it with the goal moves you know the ref blows it and you know you got an opportunity so look at Shira got flying there this is a really nice little Purple Patch we’ve got some indin stuff here oh side netting yet again the recipient of some of these Fierce American [Applause] attacks Sweden coming right right back at them though yeah Sweden that’s what I’m saying this resilience this intensity that they have and this level of fitness and what what they got two lines just over two lines yeah incredible and they’re back checking they are pushing quick but look at this speed oh off another bell ringer incredible there’s a ramp up in intensity now you can feel it as we start to Edge our way a little bit closer to the half we are in the semi-final the winner of this goes forwards to face Canada in the gold tomorrow oh nice nice move look at [Applause] that great defending [Applause] Johansen what is that and a the referee’s definitive on that front absolutely definitive and Johanson maybe guy is throwing his gloves off he’s holding his face I hope this is uh little old school rules there yanson not afraid of a little uh roughy tuy brins a bit of a unit though he’s not afraid to get in there as well too bren’s going to bring some leadership to the situation yeah yeah yeah for sure swed always more physical than you expect it you know I mean they’re very uh quiet softly spoken people they’re politely discussing their various different tactics of Ikea building furniture and P probably one of the uh you know the the [Applause] biggest thing to inflict on the rest of the world you know any parent out there that has to build a cot or a wardrobe of some sort from an Ikea flatback you you know the the pain it’s pure torture that Sweden has put on the rest of the world with that pure torture and then stepping on one of those stupid little bent Allen Keys yeah thousands of them littering my junk drawer at home but also useful if you’re an inline guy yeah Andy cuz there’s always an alen key some you always need two don’t you yeah but they’re so you know and every other aspect of their life and and and presence they’re rather quiet softly spoken peaceful individuals when they get on there on the ring it’s tough as hell absolutely so who we got out here we got a 4 and2 we got Skyla wh we got Chavira who else and that’s rather unexpectedly uh that’s a game he got sent he’s going to the changing room he’s out of [Applause] here he was definitive the referee he was making no mistake about that that was a bench he’s he’s gone for the showers apologies I missed the call was it a high stick I don’t know it might have I mean it looked like it but the way he went down was in the chin yeah here we go let’s see the guy is still Wheeling it’s late at night oh there’s a trip that’s a trip he’s pulled the penalty it’s a smart [Applause] play and I think that to some extent the crowd sensing that there’s a little bit of a a return of the luck luck may be going in the Americans favor and that’s being the definitive uh Factor Sweden getting some their way might just change the momentum Marty Wess suffering for the team sitting now in the bench well Sweden are going to have to get this to 2-1 because uh if this game’s go if this this game goes to three Z it’s going to be a real challenge they score before the half but the game is transformed yeah and I think that the Americans will then might be just a bit of a disturbed snake yeah it might put them on Hills a little bit and they might start second guessing a little bit it’s just how the game goes then you’ll start to see who are the players are who can handle the pressure brenn Morris certainly could be one of [Applause] [Music] them as it is now with a three on three Sweden have got a little bit more time on the puck they have been going to have a they’re going to be on the PK again in about 2 minutes so let’s I imagine USA will try and hold on to the puck until they get the opportunity to to make the power play smart you’d think that they’re a little bit a one- trick pony the us all run but now they’ve got plenty of smarts here in it uh over the years playing against uh Shir playing against Palmer if you’re two goals down and they got possession of the puck it’s absolute nightmare just like that and that was a that was a deadly snip you know he was so sitting there so quietly at the back door okay so what we’re going to see now is probably USA holding on to the puck a lot and they’re just trying to keep possession I think the US team might now start to play with a little bit of Freedom too there was a little bit of tension there’s a little bit of niggle in the air they’re getting physically kind of dominated and taking some hits and knocks yeah they’re rattled just a little bit and now with that goal I think especially just going forward to the half I think they’re going to play with a little bit of Freedom watch USA turn on the afterburners now let’s see if uh let’s see if Sweden got some after burners because they’re going to have to get this game 3-1 to get it 3-1 then we have a game on but otherwise otherwise we’re going to have to see some problems here Sweden really will have to play to the Finish they’re really going to have to go all the way well they going have to do what they’ve done every in nearly every game which is just pull it back keep doing what they do but with another player been ejected out of the game with a short bench already and USA look like they’re just uh just getting started here it’s going to affect them psychologically but it never bothered Borg all the Ratt on the park here watching this guy grow up playing and now seeing him in the in the Masters is is unbelievable you know I remember when he first came on the scene looks every bit the player he ever was and he’s still so quick he’s got great hands his head’s right up yeah and this is a you know he’s a pure inline Guy this is a guy with zero hockey background this is it’s almost an overused cliche when we talk about the pure inline game the French pure inline Spanish pure inline nice play look at that so patient he’s in his flow now he’s found his flow you can see that the and if the entire us team get into that flow state in big trouble oh wait had the barn door wide open for that could have really snuck knock it in Great [Applause] save nice hands cool Under Pressure okay let’s have a look at the USA breakout will they will they break it out no they’re straight back in again not even slowing it down yeah yeah look they they just they can’t let go they get so hungry gr Z most most of the teams have been you know they’ll handle it in the defensive zone for while USA is straight back in there they’re just on the attack on the offense it’s DNA isn’t it they just they can’t let it go yeah and that’s just going to wear Sweden out if they’re not careful and then you just got to start to speculate you know I mean Sweden could do what Canada are hoping to do which is sort of grind them down a little bit just on the on the percentages but I think that that kind of impatience could be their weakness against deci side like the Canadians yeah well we got PK now USA on the power play taking advantage of the 4-minute penalty and uh side net yeah about the fourth or fifth time we’ve seen that sidea USA just looking to punish the team now they’re looking to get on top of them moving the Pu quickly oh L just stepping in there yeah Sweden looking solid they got the solid PK quick feet quick sticks they’re working [Applause] hard had all day to tee that one up quy so frustrating in that position when you’re on your [Applause] toes just feeling the burn wanting to move yeah not daring to oh wide open great sa by spits the keeper he read that well absolutely saw it all day long yeah fresh boots all around full set and now okay let’s see what brin’s got Bren Morris quick sticks he’s going to be quarterback in this power play free that was a goal it gets through yeah the keeper be for sure still got uh little mini break here from Sweden now we go four back to Evans but the time Runs Out wow what an exciting first half that’s there’s a lot to go on there the the US still definitely getting the advantage of a little bit of look there and maybe the run of the play when it comes to the referees but yeah the sweds uncharacteristically showing a bit of impatience there getting a little bit rough and uh losing a member of their bench not exactly a long bench as it is anyway so didn’t need that that’s definitely not part of their game plan and look at the US bench in the it’s a big bench yeah just uh Talent huge Talent extra huge Talent Superstar fast guy deadly sniper and I could go on and on and on and on right the way down the bench yeah there’s no no no weak [Applause] point so what’s what’s next for you Pete what’s going on well I mean uh yeah the uh the the Masters continues to grow I was going to talk to you a little bit about the interesting point you made about the goals there because I might have a little inside tip on what’s happening with those oh really in the future is this is this top secret top secret stuff but uh going to make it smaller if it was possible I think they could I bet it was floated I’d like to have been a fly on the wall at that meeting actually no I wouldn’t well I’m assuming that the small goals are associated with Furs and the ball and Kane you know traditional bull hockey that that exist that still exists it is is still a big sport it is and will there be some movement on that look there I’m aware that there’s movement in terms of looking at how the inline sport fits within the World skate umbrella and then that’s a conversation that’s being had an awful lot at certain levels and you know whether or not voices are being heard or not is is a question but there there’s movement on that front I’m I’m tangentially aware of where I think that World skate wants to go in relation to a sport like this mhm if they want to seriously project it into the Olympics yeah or get it into that movement well that was always the the argument for HF right that the the relationship with the Winter Olympics you know that that partnership it was an assumption that double HF would probably get the go-ahead if there was ever a Summer Olympic version um but you know so it’d be interesting to see what happens I mean the what the one upside of the small goals is if you’re playing in the World Championships and you’ve got teams from the southern hemisphere playing against North American teams then it’s a bit of a leveler you know to have a smaller goal maybe um yeah swings and roundabouts the same thing goes around with a smaller rank versus the larger Rank and who does it favor and so on and so forth and those those arguments can go around and round um but I guess it’s the the the bigger question is you know what is the answer and you know there there are as many answers as there are people to answer it what is the way to expand or grow or popularize this otherwise maybe second cousin Sports to the ice brother I have an opinion and I think that you have two options you either make the sport appealing to Spectators and you reverse engineer it from that and which is on the cards yeah which which you know with a you could debate that the Joker rink perhaps creates a quite an exciting game you know when I say the Joker rink I mean the smaller rink that we’re using this year you know that that kind of 60x 40 sorry the 40x 20 size rink that is common in in in France and and the UK and Spain it makes it for used in the cup of Del re those boards in the floor exactly that combo yeah yeah yeah and therefore you know you get this exciting game or you reverse engineer it from the players perspective because it’s an amateur Sport and you just you serve the players right you say what do you want well we want bigger goals or we want smaller goals we want to play in a big ring a small ring we want you know this you know and because at the end of the day without the players this this amateur sport that we all love can’t survive so you have to we have to decide who we going to reverse engineer it from and my my view is that right now it’s the players you have to you have to please the players cuz they’re the ones that are going to pay to come and play so how do we make it a magical experience for the players so they’re happy because I I say smoke machine smoke machine fire flames I have the tiger call the names out on every game well if you’re into smoke machines watch carefully tomorrow and just see what I might pull out of my little hat there I want to see Flames if we could get Flames my goodness I can imagine the insurance on that see the the lights down yeah I want to see all that I am aware that you’re right and you know that in terms of its attraction and attractiveness you know they want Red Bull in on it and therefore that means changing the game into some kind of Twisted Paul verhoven mix of semi basketball stroke ice stroke balls yeah we’ll be playing three on three it’ll be like Pro beach with the ramps it’ll be you know whatever yeah um maybe change up the equipment so it’s visible I always thought that was a cool thing with the pro be purple and gold uniforms yeah you know the French are not far from that now French are driving that right now yeah so yeah I I think that you have to decide who is the customer is the customer the player or is the customer the The Spectator and here we are you know 10: p.m. at night all right you know but even when Spain have been playing we haven’t seen a lot of people come to watch the games and that’s uh you know that’s always going to be a challenge so if if you want to make it and then what do you do do you to change the game you know do you make it three on three do you you know what I mean it’s that’s a whole different story one thing about the the uh the world championships this is great to have these discussions and debates because if anyone’s going to change it it’s the people out there and up here right now you know it’s in our hands and uh it’s up to us to make it and so you know part a big part of us having these championships is the chance to get together with these people the movers and the Shakers in the inline hockey world uh and I certainly include you as a major part of that in in in your way uh we’re the ones who make it so it’s up to us to to have that voice and and and make it heard great way to do it is to get them to play yeah look at this here we go so it’s a three-goal game 3-0 Sweden are still pushing it hard can they get one back here can they get it to 3-1 make it a two-goal game get you a say on their heels a bit different composure now that they’ve got the four on that’s uh they they feel a little bit stronger I think they’re going to come and get this game I think they can go for it I mean it’s this is a this is two-line hockey for the Sweden team yeah you know that’s uh that’s normal for my beer league hockey team you know we’re lucky to get 10 guys maybe maybe seven or eight depends but you know at this level you I think three lines is probably preferable the uh the the often said at this level uh difference between senior men’s and Masters is the difference in the shout when you get rattling the uh hook on the bench because senior men’s it’s come off come off come off come off come off yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah exactly here it’s stay on stay on stay on stay on stay I’m not ready I’m not ready I need another minute still breathing out my yeah the Americans seemingly never run out of gas though they just have endless supplies of energy I mean no one ever runs out of gas on a breakaway no well I’ve been watching USA team for a long time and it doesn’t matter what sport it is they find a way you know and they they they know how to close a game they how to win a game to turn a game around it’s in the DNA they just keep hitting and hitting and hitting until it works yeah and you look at a team like Canada who just seems to get better and better through the tournament you know they just have that growth mindset where they just keep reflecting and improving and improving you know that’s I always find that really impressive with team with Team candle you see it in the uh iy World Championships you know as well you know usually Yeah well yeah this year not withstanding but look I’ve seen them do that before you know come in and just kind of get lump along for the first few games and then suddenly after I’ve quite quite uh unfairly written them long off turn around and oh good God they’ve come back and won well done I know it’s amazing they suck on the first game and then all of a sudden they got a gold medal around the next that’s what Sweden’s going to have to do here is just let whatever happens to these Americans just bounce off them yeah I mean brinn’s not going to be in a hurry here that’s what I mean when I say about Brin just bringing a different flavor to the Americans they’ve got this route one uh mentality uh not so much him he knows better and he just adds that extra layer which makes the Americans so formidable yeah but I think we see that you know in BR Shir that Southern California style of hockey where it’s you know possession possession possession well that’s interesting because uh I’m not although I live there now oh danger great save Swedish keeper working hard I think that’s a penalty but they didn’t get it oh the refere is looking right at it the big shout goes out amongst the crowd here we go it’s a break could be a Sweden break we got a three three on three oh he’s going for a shot he’s gone all the way around the boards oh he’s picked it up that was well defended actually because it was interrupted there was if he had a clearer go I think that was a better shot but did really well there the American number nine just to interfere with that potential shot yeah I was in saying in North America because although I live there now not that altogether familiar with the way that they play their game I haven’t seen a lot of inline or roller they’ll call it over there do do you notice a difference in terms of styles between different regions and different styles of play yeah yeah definitely with the uh the East Coast Hockey I mean we saw it last year with the 38 so that that level of intensity that they had um and I think uh the the US team was in some ways probably stronger with that that that style you know whether it’s from the East Coast St Louis these guys that are here we go Sweden a super dangerous great hands oh nice yeah definitely a different style of hockey um I mean in line in itself is should be a patient game of possession game they’ve got all the extra space yeah but when my experience maybe it’s uh consistent throughout inline hockey now but the teams from California just seem to have that that level of patience it’s a nice addition I think it it adds a little zip to this yeah lasagna of uh American talent [Applause] [Music] I could do these forever you know I practiced them at home for months before I come yeah today I don’t know why it’s like a food reference day [Applause] so so we got free on the puck number 68 is the captain yeah look Mane finds his way through gaps no other human could [Applause] Sweden look plenty dangerous coming out oh yeah they still you know if they can get one here but this is keep their head he’s gone for oh he’s gone for The Clapper right there don’t see that very often right off the post that tested the vinyl in that puck yeah [Applause] yeah look how quick the Americans turn straight back at the goal they are not hanging around yeah but then they bring it back let’s see look at this pace Marty he’s back again yeah here we go number nine and this is really going to frustrate the Swedish team you know because it’s going to be a tough for them to get that puck back and when they get the puck they’re going to have to do something with it you know but the the US team of Relentless are all over them and I would really like to uh you know kind of feel for the swedes here with two lines and against this this team if anyone can understand it though it’s them they abely they’ve got what it takes but they’ve proven it you know several times they’ve got to get the puck they’ve got to get their hands on it and that’s going to be just so hard it’s like trying to catch a wasp well you start chasing and then the penalty is come and all of a sudden you know you’re in you’re up against it so and they might be standing off the Americans now knowing that you know the referees are going to call even little things you know what I mean they can’t get really into that a game that they might be a little bit more familiar with with just a little bit more physical niggle [Applause] [Music] 13313 left in the second half of this final semi-final match of the day it’s the finals day one more day to go tomorrow all the golds gold medal matches bronze medal matches all rolled up into one tidy bundle here in the pabellon Deo in Haka the 2024 Masters veterans Legends inline hockey World Cup join us on Mi mw.to wories bulletins uh and uh information about the game and how it’s being developed over the year leading up to our Christmas usually in [Applause] June but can reveal that we will be going next year to somewhere in Europe think I’ve tried this one already yeah that’s helpful you never know if there’s too many people listening the same they you know I’ve got a different audience tonight so just Europe that’s that’s uh that’s all we know at this stage exclusive it’ll be in the mountains oh check mountains no I would love to I’d love to go back to ca because I think that they’re the one place that’s got the really the kind of infrastructure aging though it might be in places they’ve got the infrastructure there to handle this kind of affair oh yeah few do yeah most of the rinks are Twin Rinks and uh you know plenty of dressing rooms set up hotels on the rink you know to look after the players Bratislava has been dropped as a name a couple times right yeah love to twist Johan’s hand on that front and really persuade [Music] him love to see it back in the UK but where well it would have to be Nottingham shef uh Sheffield you know just have to rub a bank truck who’s going to put the floor down yeah however it was whever it would be it would cost us I have a little bit of nostalgia when I see Brin on the puck you know having played with him for nearly four five years it’s great to see him back in the side yeah yeah oh he’s a super influential player as well too off the off the rink and outside of the competition yeah he’s got a great great way about him great presence great leadership I think he sets a tone M and it it benefits the entire American [Music] side sort of uh I don’t know if we’ve come to a little bit of a stalemate here just a little bit back and forth no one’s really distinguishing themselves Sweden now with a little bit of Pock time well Sweden will be hoping that that us go to sleep for a little bit you know maybe maybe take the foot off the gas get it overconfident and they’ll and that’s where Sweden are good you know if they get a little taste a little sniff they are they will punish you you know it’s definitely starting to get for the time when they need to do it yeah step it up a little bit oh this could spit nicely fora can he do it uh the backand maybe not as purposeful as it quite needed to be still in possession though Sweden not very tight they’re not you know if this is an American side on the other way around they’d be crashing the net now Sweden got way much more open can hear your compatriots trying to lighten the mood a little bit yeah yeah good value always boys you can always rely on the Brits for that miss them tremendously Great Value those Lads yeah miss miss a bit of bante [Applause] your daughter was just in Canada wasn’t she did she enjoy that my daughter lives in Canada oh she’s living in Canada now fabulous yeah which is uh not far from me isn’t it is she in the on the island she no she is in Whistler she is a ski instructor in Whistler super which is nice and what she doing in the Summer she is now um still in Whistler she’s got a job putting the bikes on the uh you know the the mountain bikes that are coming out on the lifts love it she said she’s she’s working hard living the Rocky Mountain dream yeah well it’s it’s nice for me because I you know when I first moved to North America I I moved to Vancouver to play inline hockey back in 97 okay so you know the West Coast well then yeah and it’s nice for me as a father that I know my friends are there you know I would love to see Kirk Kirk French out here I know a lot of Canadian players would love to see Co French shot playing out here in the uh I mean he’s he’s a year younger than me he’s 47 he can play 45 and over but he would definitely be dominant in the 38 and over so I think Canada are desperate to get him out here but okay nice hands look at this look it’s always an issue for Canadians and and and maybe not so much the Americans can squeeze oh look at that bouncing off oh that’s a bounced really funny could have gone right back in there the keeper wasn’t watching that you know what at this stage that was a crucial goal to go in that was unfortunate and I bet Johan Lilian knows that because getting this game to 3-1 right now with 8 minutes to go would be could be a game changer I don’t know I’m sitting here chewing on my tongue I’m I think that went in it sure looked like it to me I think they’re going to get the V out I think just a timeout for the US team to yeah if they if they had a v it’ll probably be just on my phone in my pocket here yeah I think time out for the US I think need toh they probably realize they need to settle down a bit things are getting a little bit too pressured yeah a little on the loose side and and allowing Sweden to just kind of sharpen up and get back in have a look in it’s not what they want now and you you can see Lilla little y on the on the bench now communicating with his team he really owe go where to be yeah yeah he’s he’s such a passionate guy and you know what I when I spoke to him the other day you can tell that he just loves the sport you know he wants to see it grow in Sweden he wants to see more players coming into this this tournament and getting inspired by it that’s that’s great because in you know Sweden has had it struggle we’ve been kind of working on the development of that side and getting a Sweden team here for ages and it’s it’s always been a bit of a struggle for them for various different reasons some political and some just you know trying to get the bodies in play and and not working or doing their other things uh it’s a difficult story and but it’s a a similar story right across uh this Master’s movement uh for all teams to get the guys together and to have this amount of time off and travel abroad yeah absolutely [Applause] my next stop is going to be the World Championships I’ve been lucky enough to be invited back to rockar raso again to do the worlds for World skate so that’ll be great fun yeah oh that’s so stealthy look the wrap around almost could have gone in on his own that’s it but he made the pass that timeout did exactly the trick that it needed to do just switch back on boys and go and get the job done [Applause] jauzi okay well this will be a be a challenge for Sweden now yeah it’s a it’s a real test and and and it’s not like they don’t have it in them but I think we need to see more of it now you know there’s no hiding it anymore it’s got to come out all the tools all of the Allen Keys all of the little aluminium wrenches all all the instructions and a whole lot of Hearts a whole lot of Hearts they’re going to have to go for it now he’s just just it’s like he’s playing on day one of this tournament the energy is just his heart leading and the Pu left behind on that little move oh nice little bit of a dangle there trying to find some free space yeah had a shocker on his hand he’s shaking it yeah he might have taken a little whack there jauzi was instrumental against ity earlier on [Music] [Applause] yeah time ticking away now for Sweden there’s a time for [Applause] patience it might be over the Americans now looks like they’ve got their eye in a bit the [Applause] grath makes an attack run and goes and sets passes it on to the next player smart passing the Americans keeping their moment him going forward there we go still in possession feeding and pulled the penalty now we got Britt at the top it’s going to be a five on four dasvi now Shir out [Applause] there we got a Swedish line that’s been out there for nearly 2 minutes so let’s see what what happens here long tournament legs suffer it’s just it’s a it’s a brutal physical test is it it’s really brutal brutal is the only word I could think of I was trying to think of a different word but it just is but like you were saying you know you’re right it just it gives these guys a really good reason to get back on it yeah well I think that’s the thing you know you know a lot of a lot of guys in there that are hitting 38 39 a lot of them will be thinking if only I known what I know now at 2728 when I thought I was coming you know peing whatever and actually we’re seeing in the NHL we’re seeing athletes in other sports realizing that if you eat in the right way if you take care of yourself keep playing um you can you can play at a high level you know some these guys might be playing their better best hockey of their life certainly when we started yeah and and when we started you know this is very much a beer and Barbecue League at least in its kind of initial conception but it’s kind of grown out of that now this a different level you can see even just on the curling rink opposite which we’ve turned into our little practice area you’ve got people doing proper timing warm-ups for uh um for for sports science you know really applying nutritional value they’re getting fit for these tournaments 6 months in advance they’re stretching and uh doing exercises warming up they’re they’re really taking it seriously don’t want get first of all right you got to you want to manage your body you realize that you can you can stay fit and healthy and play play better for longer which is my whole motto and uh and improve the game so you know if the guys that are like me at at 48 I’m 49 I’ll be 49 next year I’m thinking can I be a better hockey player at 50 because I get to play here right I’m not going to be playing in the men’s league but I want to make sure that I turn up to Legends in the best possible shape yeah you know and that that’s inspiring that’s that’s great for us well we’re all the Richer for having you here uh Smiley and that’s uh that’s it’s a great you’re a great um advocate for hockey and a great advocate for men’s uh men’s well-being health and fitness well I think we’re all grateful for for you and the Federation and what you’re doing because you know it’s uh as I often say if it if it wasn’t for this setup here I’d be sat next to you now on the stands having exactly the same conversation well exactly yeah yeah with a few more maybe choice [Applause] expletives I think we’ve settled into a little bit of a pattern now I think that you know the Americans must be thinking now look we’ve done enough here they’re not having to push it too much further it’s going to be a different different story tomorrow in the gold when they face Canada we’ve got a repeat of last year’s final coming up it’s not over yet but Sweden have have yet to uh Enlighten and enliven the side maybe for very good reasons that there’s just not enough left in the tank even with those supremely fit and very well-managed [Applause] individuals but they barely got two lines you know yeah you it doesn’t matter how fit you are give yourself so much more to do when you’re coming with that number and half lines yeah and and less one player who’s now who’s a key player as well you know the you know that’s uh it’s unfortunate because he’s a a key key player for this team last thing that swed wed was a player in the box now yeah Americans playing the total game it’s total war out there for them every aspect we got Vince 3 on the face off here br’s back on [Music] [Applause] I also think the US team has taken it a lot more seriously you know they oh danger you know I can probably speak for the British team that you know beating beating USA in the in the yes I was wondering when you’re going to bring that up 2022 well we beat them 1 nil and I was thought it was the biggest game of my life but I didn’t want to play him again because I thought they’d have huge revenge and then we ended up actually getting a really good result from them it really was and I can remember interviewing you after that match and the look in your face said it all that that that that was uh a real moment for the the GB team kind of you know I think it was a b moment the US team as well because I don’t think they have thought that’s never going to happen again and they’ve come back with uh you know real motivation seriously yeah exactly and they realized actually and we’re seeing it in the Ice Hockey World Championships right if you don’t if you come out flat against a team like Norway they’re going to beat you yeah right it doesn’t matter who you are with your Canada or checks or whatever and and this level here you know if you play against a bunch of guys who have highly motivated and want to come out and win the game if you come out flat or maybe you had a late night before you’re going to get uh penalized for it yeah it’s not unknown here at the Masters let’s say that no no it’s it’s a part of the the fun yeah we’re all adults now yeah we can relax little bit of the crowd turning against the USA because they tried this very same tactic there was another uh uh USA Sweden and the veterans just prior to this where the Americans applied uh a very obvious tactic of just killing the game Dead yeah stopping the swedes from playing okay so Sweden have got a power play wow that might be just enough at least to change the momentum for the last two minutes but yeah yeah I think uh I think the chap back it would be great if they could and I think that they would uh uh they would enjoy that and earn it in in any sense that their result here doesn’t really tell the tale of their progress all the way through uh these championships so far they’ve done a tremendous job and looked great against sides that could have potentially beaten them certainly GB side that were Supreme that super talent and just just edged it out just did the grind yep it’s not enough here not enough against these superstars from America no susco be looking for another shut out no doubt did I say that I probably shouldn’t say that no it’s uh the commentator’s curse but yeah sorry is it susco maybe it’s not susco it might not be this time actually I think this us keeper is their other chap whose name I do not have on the list today Veron Marcus verton [Applause] verton Beach City [Applause] spray oh dear well we like a little bit of banter that’s uh marites The prominent figure in the world of Chilean inline hockey actually working yesterday actually I’m hoping to catch up with him at some point yeah he’s a great guy and he’s been working with the Masters uh out here with us for two years in a row now kind of bossing up the sort of the delivery team for right uh the Chrono staff all of the timekeepers and stuff like that and he using his experience in leadership actually to develop those guys and make sure that we our data right such a hard it’s impressive you know you built you’ve really built a team you know you think back to 2012 and how uh you’ve built this this really great team it’s incredible I mean the only good things are going to come of it right we hope so I mean I don’t know about my mental health I wouldn’t like to have a check no find myself talking in the mirror a lot yeah that’s that’s you know that’s okay but I’m holding it together just like these swedes are just barely holding it together it’s not going to be enough I think on this exchange and as maybe the for book suggested and we expected in not the most dramatic of Fashions but definitely the most pragmatic of factions is it going to be short-handed goal no oh no couldn’t quite outwitted him his own self there [Applause] it’s late at night the legs are tired it’s been a long tournament I think there’s not an awful lot left of the impetus even in these forever tenacious Americans but the story as I say is probably written now score is 4- nil USA Sweden we’ve got 123 left and it’s all pretty much over bar the shouting yeah just proves also how you know in the mix Great Britain are with you know with Sweden and same score against USA you know losing in a tight game today obviously I’m going to be a little bit biased towards the GB boys but well I can’t say that I’m not what do you think that they’ve got to do now to come back in terms of the GB guys and then certainly Sweden when they come back for their bronze what are the GB guys going to need to do to come back and try and eek out their very best placement which will be in this case now a fifth place which would be uh as I was talking to some of the lads earlier on from the vet side in in a context although maybe only one or two positions up from where you were actually a much much greater level of development than uh it would believe the context being that everyone else around you is just at another level never yet seen well it’s going to be a tough game against Germany you know they’re not going to they’re going to make it very difficult uh it’s kind of a similar to last year with the 38s yeah a there we go nice goal just to finish things off uh yeah it doesn’t change anything really but but we got to we got to see you know the teams that are playing well you know what we saw in Sweden today was their ability to to hold the offensive zone you know and Sweden has hasn’t done that today against USA because they wouldn’t let them but the GB team didn’t do that today you know they’re very strong in their own end defensively you know very organized yeah it was great to watch that a really structured defense yeah very patient in their own end when they break it out Bring It Back but the difference is is is how do you hold the puck in the in the offensive zone you know cycling it down low and so if you rely on your dmen to set things up you really if you look at the US team what they’re really good at is that their forwards are setting setting up the plays you know they’re setting up the plays down low making things happen they’re making chances and Taking Chances exactly yeah that’s what the Americans did they took their chances when they came Y and they walk away with a shut out and five goals to the good tremendous pleasure to have you here and you I knew we were going to get a little bit political and talk about the future and Sport and Fitness and Men’s Health and Women’s Health and all the health we could talk about all of it I think it is great so thanks very much uh for all your efforts and thanks for joining me here it’s nice to have some company and I’ll be looking forward to doing some more catching up a little bit later in the tournament yeah thank you Peter thank enjoy your games tomorrow good luck to team GB we’ll see you at the golds all day tomorrow thanks a lot mate cheers [Music] yeah e
