Hey folks,

First, I'm so grateful for all the help this subreddit has given me already. People have freely shared their experiences of terrain, routes, and apps (notably pebbls and Cycle.travel), and this guidance has shaped my thinking a great deal.

So – this is how it is. I've mapped out a circular route from Inverness. Along the way, I'm assiduously avoiding major roads. When I can, I'm looking for gravel tracks that I can ride on a hardy touring bike. (No MTBing this time!). Oh yes, and, I'm trying to avoid the NC500 in general.

I've ended up with a route that I believe to be very attractive – but which is too long for 14 days in the saddle. Here it is on Komoot – https://www.komoot.com/tour/1648172407?share_token=aVt131gpFguzTTAYFj5Tr7mlu02VRXFLWhCt88cDu88i3eZSok&ref=wtd . I will continue to adjust and re-draft this, ahead of my departure on Wednesday night. While I do this, I would be grateful for all comments!

In particular:

  • Are there any sections that are better to miss than others? Or – are there easy ways to make this shorter?

  • In terms of terrain, am I setting myself up for failure and tears?

  • For camping – will I survive?? this is my first time wild camping, and I am a little apprehensive about finding good spots.

  • Is there anything else that I'm not thinking of?

Many thanks in advance! I think this is going to be an excellent trip: and I'm looking forward to any suggestions that could make sure it's as seamless as possible.

Cheers 🙂
