Does anyone know further details about the US-50 bridge situation past Gunnison? I’m in Pueblo now, having headed west from New York City over the last month.
The bridge is closed, and I figured I was going to either (1) ride across the bridge, if it’s passable for bikes or (2) hitch a ride through the locals detour on the Lake City Cutoff road in a pilot car or in a pickup.
Per a news report I read, it seems that locals are also shuttling people (including cross country cyclists) by boat?
I’m planning on calling a local bike shop, campground owners, etc., but I’d appreciate any local knowledge from anyone who either lives in the area or has ridden through recently.
I’m not opposed to detouring elsewhere (via Crested Butte or Aspen), but would like to still end up back in Utah and Nevada after leaving Colorado.
