welcome back to Lon Rouge cycling podcast for the first prop Mount stage of the Criterium the Doan stage six we’ve got a packed weekend of high mountain racing as we go into the seavo region near the Alps uh and this is from halter I don’t know how to say that to which has about it’s it’s not a uni Puerto sort of warm-up climb before the C graner but actually has a sneaky amount of elevation gain yeah about 3,200 M uh of elevation gain in this and what is it 74 km stage and the final climbs hard it really is a difficult unrelenting climb 11.2k is 88.4% first K is sort of a warmup for taring and the rest is about 9% the whole way 10% brutal climb not to high altitude but uh yeah it really would shake things up on GC and show where everybody is after the TT what was the news from yesterday Benji yesterday evening uh in terms of abandonments dns’s so when it comes to the names we already knew from yesterday KB and vanara were left with ambulance during the race but a few other Riders had the same thing I think AEL Maro from goof is as well Milan Menon from Lotto we had a few other names but in total a lot got added overnight and this morning Alex kir from middle Tre we’ve got Andreas SC as well from Lotto so that’s two Riders there we had coobo goson from an Mar H AO of UAE yeah I think Daniel Freo posted on Twitter that he he tried to give it a try by riding towards the start but then said I’m probably not going to start or something and he ended up dsing so no start for him Kamil gr and Yasha sulin of Bahrain Harry Sweeny and Lucas Nar who’s been really good in this doof so I was curious to see what is his climbing on the Mountain Stage is going to be like he was also uh dsing before the stage started halter dnf yesterday the one who crashed from the Breakaway chrisan aing was another one from unox that also didn’t start today Lon for ARA also didn’t start today and rir Rosa of grama and when the list is that long when there’s 10% of your pelaton leaving uh before today’s stage then you know yesterday’s crash was awful there a few riders with injuries we already know that St K and N V Bara won’t be going uh won’t be heading to the tour front and I was wondering are you going to replace them or no I mean joint cycling plan’s going really well but not I I’m not ready yet I got to drop a few kegs maybe to get there but yeah a lot Riders dropping dropping like flies unfortunately and even the Riders who started today a lot of the GC guys that started today I mean spoilers but gag and Hart they’re the walking wounded as he they’re no longer here for really GC they’re just trying to make it through and then I wouldn’t be surprised now that guys have tested out how they feel to see some more more abandonments this evening as well but about dagenhard so he started today he paret on the clim spoilers but about that is he actually injured because I heard some things about ribs yeah yeah he he gave an interview this morning to freea and um he crashed into an electricity pole and hit his bicep and ribs it doesn’t know if they’re fractured he said they’re not displaced but if you go s ribs is you don’t want to do a 30-minute War pilo test Brea 18 185 BPM and breathing conly so that’s yeah a lot of guys probably in that position as well I think six of the seven UAE Riders crashed Solair was the only one who didn’t crash Solair I want either he’s the luckiest rider in the world or he’s the goat I inclined I love markes so in the bass country crash he bunny hopped the embankment that Remco and Y crash in and stuck The Landing in a forest at 80 and then yesterday he didn’t crash and the whole apparently po was the first to go down the whole UAE train crashed and he didn’t crash I think ever since moar made him finish a stage with two broken hands I haven’t seen him be part of brutal crashes anymore which is a positive but that those are those are very very weird memories of the mo St days when it comes to Solair but good that he’s not crashing but like you said most of the team did and let’s hope most of them are relatively okay cuz then COV with AO out does he become the new leader yeah say so get gets to go for his own result or do the best possible with no pressure same with Solair I would say I mean what else is there to do uh but make the best of it that’s what a lot of teams would be thinking so yeah UAE uh I think they went with that today in other news some personal news as well as announcement from Team visma Lisa bike this morning concerning uh me that on one there’s a press release well full press release it’s linked in the description and show not if you want to read it uh if you haven’t seen it on Twitter Instagram whatever this morning when I Shar but from 1 of October if you didn’t know Marine zon is leaving uh the team the head sporting director uh after the end of the season and so from 1 October there will be a new sports management team of which I am a part so there’s Gish nman who you might know from the Netflix series or being in the the head DS in the Twitter France uh Yakov vajar who is a internationally renounced swimming uh coaches also joining the team then Matthew hbor is the current DOR C of performance Robert who is the uh head of the development team and myself so largely what I’ll be doing is is much the same race analysis strategy uh but also working in the recruitment for both the men and also the women’s team for me will now also be an additional focus and people ask what does that mean for the podcast or the YouTube videos nothing really because it’s the same same same system as before to me it looked like we were in the Moneyball movie and we’ve got that scene of of saying how are you still trying to replace M zon you got to replace M zon in the Aggregate and you showed up with five people you’ve got yako who is good when it comes to swimming so Riders will be better in the rain that’s my conclusion out of that he probably does more important [ __ ] that something about the [Laughter] crashes anyway anyway uh congratulations I’m happy to hear that for you I’m proud of you yeah so as I I work two full-time jobs now so that’s my my own F I’m really looking forward to it but uh yeah me the part and the High videos and me and Benji and everything continues on as before uh which I’m also grateful to the team for because I’m not sure yeah I’m not sure that other teams would be so happy with them sitting side by side but RMA really they fine with it um which is also what what I needed because I have to the part is l CP we’ve spent so much energy and and time and dedication and passion building it together since it’s the fifth season that it’s it’s so important so that Still Remains the big Focus we’re getting old man we’re getting old yeah I know I’m on the wrong side of wrong side of 30 now uh Breakaway goes in this race though stage six a breakaway goes Court greguar gelc Ian livens fulu and Mason hollyman two best climbers in there are Magnus Court actually you may say Magnus court but he actually really clim as well from a break he won on the maev stage I think ahead of Schulz greguar though probably still a bit better than him given his Toreno I think top 10 on GC uh he really can climb the others there to help and who was chasing Benji quickstep were not really chasing they were they were pacing not chasing I think that’s a fair uh a fair Assumption of the temple we saw the gab grow towards five minutes 5 minutes 50 at a certain point but we’re not at the C now and I feel like before the c graner or on the climb of the C du graner we’re talking about 55 km to go when the climb really starts hitting I feel like little TR started to help them a little because that’s when I think Kasper pis and mes pison were both climbing next to each other or trading relays at the front of the pelaton the tempo on graner wasn’t wasn’t gigantic but you have a few people that drop under that Tempo and it’s r as you would expect to drop at that moment so nothing too worrisome there but the Gap towards the breakway does go down at this point but we spoke on the podcast yesterday and there was a a friendly chap in our chat that said gr descent looking terrifying and something did happen in that descent we had a crash in the Breakaway he G and also Mason Hollman crashed and to me yes it’s it’s it looked like a relatively dangerous descend compared to the normal straight ones but to me this is what was a steering uh issue yes a dry Road surface there wasn’t like some gravel drop off or terrible uh problem in that that wasn’t even a sharp corner that wasn’t even a sharp corner so yeah it was just they were they were pushing too much the they near crashed the two corners before I don’t know if it was falo the or the Q3 65 guy he was missing corners and then that had a Ricochet effect behind he missed a fair few corners and laying off but the break did not descend well usually what you see actually is in this situation I was like the break has a good chance because yeah they’ve Tak it down to 3 minutes or 4 minutes I can’t remember at the top of grander but then normally the break will take a 45 seconds a minute back because they have they they’ll take the risk but pedison whacked it in the pelaton exactly but I’m also thinking before we get to the pelaton aspect of it in the breakway I often see groups and maybe it’s sometimes in pelons as well where I feel like the wrong Riders at the front for to descend and I think for example if I if I if I look back in my memory there was a was it a tour the France stage where Michael uh no where Magnus Court came back in The Descent after a strong climbing performance and ended up winning the stage against someone else could have been Michael Valen as well but hey they were both at as so don’t blame me if I got one of them wrong yeah and they both went through the front stages but so that’s a memory of court I would think that court is a is a more experienced descender than fanello the way the way they were descending today where I would expect cor to take the front then maybe try and try and gain a bit of time compared to the pelaton in that descent but like you said Miss Pon came to the front came around to quickstep r that was leading in the descend and kind of started pushing it to the point that there were splits in the pelaton and there was two sides to the argument when it comes to social media some people were like oh why is mpon pushing in his descend I don’t have an issue with people taking advantage of the sense that are part of the race cycling as a race yes it increases the risk of the sport but as a fanatic venzo fan I can’t stand here and say oh the rider shouldn’t take benefits from from from descents neble attacked on 75 descents in his career and is the most beautiful part of his career in my opinion so but what’s your take maybe a little bit like I agree he doesn’t need to walk down there he doesn’t need to just make it super safe for everybody but I think actually maybe I he did push it a little bit too hard um because in the end he had to wait they had to wait for the pel splits to come back because it course splits but it also did say one clear thing they’re going for Chone y because gagen har no way you do that with him normally and then after he’s crashed no way so they’re going for stage Shon can descend he’s good you see remember low Port last year low Port 30 minute was pilo test after easy stage Catalonia last year beat rogl on that uphill finish and Remco so he is good on these sort of stages and they’re all in for him and I think that was that was the right thing to do what was curious to me though we get to the valley uh the Breakaway takes a wrong turn they go straight where there’s a leftand turn they’re supposed to take a left hand turn the lead car just went straight and the Breakaway goes the wrong way so if the Breakaway was doomed in the first place they were extra doomed by losing a minute uh yeah a shame for them but in the end I don’t think it changes the stage result just a shame for gregar probably uh or court and then Pelton there’s splits comes back I noticed poet was descending really slowly and gingerly at the back uh he crashed yesterday hard rco was leaving a gap and Landa was with pedon and Remco was closing his own Gap and Rit was ahead of that Gap so remco’s chasing stress stress stress get to the valley P’s pacing Gibbons is pacing but Quick Step Benji start pacing all out why H do you think it was just because t like pedison said in Danish to the other pedison help me I don’t know if that was it to be honest Pon was a c ptis was over the back on after the climb itself over the top but like in the valley when M Fon started pushing and I don’t know what the choice there was but it’s like it feels the same for both fans eh if if we’re after the point where the splits have come back together because of the the whole race situation uh I’m looking at no one really being able to benef benefit from this so you then think okay what is this doing if I’m pacing hard on the valley towards the climb does that make the race harder for someone of our competitors does that put more energy expenditure into them but then again it’s a very low energy expenditure stage on paper you would say even though the altitude meters were higher than you would expect on a stage like this I still feel like we won’t see 5,000 KJ at the end of uh at the start of to today’s climb you know it’s not like lival stage um so I don’t know if it really uh if it really did much the the pacing before it but to bring us to the situation we have right now breakway hman never came back after that crash G like came back but we’re now heading towards the actual cvar and the break is two minutes ahead of the pelaton and greguar and Court straight up do the rest gregar grear goes Court closes the rest not there anymore and that’s when we look to the pelet on and it’s in your spacing I’m thinking Carlos Rodriguez this morning said in his interview yes I crashed but I feel relatively okay no major bruises which that’s good next to that the pleas is Clos in GC but I got to be honest with that I was looking at the race situation I was say oh they’re just setting up a train for Carlos Rodriguez because we’re not used to the um out of the box strategies when it comes to inos and what did they end up doing yeah they paced tling they went one by one sky train I was like it’s going to be Sky Train all the way and then plki is just going to launch Rodriguez the problem with Rodriguez is he’s not the sky Train last man because he doesn’t have the Sprint like a RIT so like Vima with RIT they could just go 1 2 3 4 bring him to 500 R Stomp and win you know Rodriguez can’t do that he doesn’t have the burst of he doesn’t he has a blow average burst like jacone will cook him in in a 500 meter sort of uphill kick and so I’m thinking are they going to launch him and they do Oh but before that Benji on the under the pacing of anyos we saw cous drop almost immediately and he didn’t crash yesterday he did not crash yesterday like 80% of the peleton yeah and before this B had already dropped with the just after the sprinters and lemon drops a bit later than Gus and well we see like Jenson alone and that’s not the situation you want here obviously except because you you’d like to have with as long as possible on the climb I was of the opinion that he should start the stage with a with it D roll considering he’s 17 decades behind NC before the stage but it didn’t even come to that it’s not like Json could use him in any way because he dropped before anyone else he’s droing before armorel man’s he’s droing from a group of 5050 yeah can hard parket with at that point but he has a he has an excuse in that I don’t think G crash yesterday no no he didn’t so it’s it’s not like he has that that on a side so his St TR also wasn’t great am I worried about a shape the thing with saz is this is cous this is one we cous yeah like at UAE tour that that it happened all the time so [ __ ] probably win on Sunday yeah yeah you know he’s literally done that in do before um like I think he won he won 2020 uh Sunday stage on Doan so but no bit tongue and cheek dropping from a group of 50 60 nor is probably more than just I don’t know so we’ll have to figure out what’s happened there um but it does leave Jenson isolated in the end he’s in he’s in that he’s in a nice spot though where no one’s looking at Mato Jorgenson yeah no one’s looking at Derek G it’s inos Bora and quickstep they all looking at each other and then Chone also is in a nice spot no one’s looking at Julio Chone as well yeah and reality is also the situation of Chon and jensson because of that is that you’ve got two teams that might play it differently we’ll get to that right now which is inos for example in the meanwhile by the way in the breakway greguar has dropped cord but greguar is is bleeding from his Lo nose like crazy and is eventually going to get caught by whoever attacks in the pellaton and that attacker is not Carlos Rodriguez it’s the plus the plus attacks after quat’s lead out I see a response by mikeland who then cancels his response and starts spacing the group behind that was and that creates an opportunity for vazov to launch a counter towards the plus and then we’ve got two leaders the plus and vazov from this point onwards and that brings me to that situation that I spoke about a second ago the fact that Bora and inos are trying this stuff Jorgenson just needs to try and survive Chone just needs to try and survive and try and follow the other leaders that are trying to cancel that out because at this point land’s doing the work for them yeah I think this is where yeah exactly jensson as long as one of the three Bora Quick Step I forgotten another team inos B quick as long as one of Bora quickstep inos are not represented he can sit on as long as those domestic are there say it was Lander and delo then hindley will pace instead of Lander pacing behinds now this is this is Bora today like they really really got it right because they are in such a good strategic position when vov goes with the pl firstly vov vlasov is ahead of GC on ahead of Theo on GC by 6 seconds okay not much but still it matters a little bit secondly secondly and most importantly he’s way stronger than Theo you can know you know he will drop him so and Theo is working 75% as well so he’s sitting on for a fair bit okay has to snap bridge and when he snap Bridges as well it’s when there’s a flat peleton it’s not like he’s attacking off Lander doing a nuclear Pace at that moment so he just goes straight across to the PLO sits on gets tagged towed away Rish sits in the wheels it’s just perfect for Bora yeah it’s perfect for Bora to the point that I’m curious what’s going to end up happening group two because Landa keeps spacing and I’m thinking who else is in the this group who else could make move here because right now is just land keeping the gap for for remu and the Gap went out to 7 Seconds to 10 seconds to 15 seconds stayed around 15 13 seconds for quite a bit and I feel like that is when we see some Riders dropping Bago but eventually chicone makes a move so chicone chooses to make that move with Primos in the wheel Jenson following and Carlos Rodriguez following and I’m thinking where’s rco I swear he was near the front of this group where’s Landa I swear he was facing this group before Chone made his attack and I’m I’m looking down the group not fifth not sixth Derek G like where where did he come from Derek Derek G what the hell he is pacing and he is cuz like did you see a little bit from RIT Benji like a little bit of impatience I think like it was a good situation for Bora but he he was also very obvious ly came to get across toov yeah think that I think that was the case I think RIT RIT looked like he was feeling good and wanted to do something with it and also let’s be honest about it he left the team because of that situation last year so I kind of see a see rug and turning like oh God oh God oh God oh God let let make let’s make sure that I can jump this Gap but when first of all we got we got to turn it back second Remco dropping with land pacing him when chicone makes that move is that in your opinion crash related is that his current level no it’s just level this is Remco did a good performance today a he did I I’d SE preparation I think rco did a good good performance today had broken shoulder blade and uh I think he did a really good performance and actually very encouraging for the tour to France because I don’t know maybe he’s got maybe he’s got a bit of bit of weight to lose for the tour maybe he’s missing missing 10 15 watts but he’s not he’s not 5 kilos off he’s not 30 Watts off he’s close it looks far but he’s still close like but he if he’s if he’s losing three minutes then you’re really really far away but he’s also not dropping when the likes of a jensson drops or something he’s dropping when losano is still in the group ahead of him and G’s far further ahead which that’s kind of an over performance by G today yeah but yeah I I would have hoped to see for the Twitter fronts remu maybe be in a group ahead of that when dropping he finishes 20 seconds behind Carlos Rodriguez I the he went straight away yeah but he that’s how he PID he went straight into I’m not the best and so he went straight into TT Pace mode I I think that’s fair but I also can’t say it’s like super promising either it’s like I still he’s he he ain’t there yet that’s for sure so I just need more confirmation towards the Twitter fronts to say okay he’s really that Podium candidate because when it comes to the brutal Mountain Stage in the coming days that’s where I will be curious what difference that’s going to make cuz now exactly he drops close to the Finish relatively if he drops on a on a second last or or a climb that is from the Finish that’s when it becomes more difficult exactly if you just can’t follow the acceleration but why I need to I I need to watch it back vov to PLO rited bursting twice and then he’s with Chone jensson Rodriguez was there a moment where Rodriguez like I feel like d was he did he pull with vlasov too long when Rodriguez didn’t have it cuz it actually became clear that actually Rodriguez didn’t have it and this was very quickly becoming B’s perfect situation yeah I don’t know if there was like a dipping point for that where where any else could have changed anything about the situation because you build a situation where the plus is at the front and where caros Rodriguez has to try and benefit behind and at that point you’ve got two leaders and you see where you land because yeah I don’t know true true that maybe maybe I’m thinking of it the wrong way maybe it’s actually they’re playing Delo as a leader fully not B potentially uh wasc before the stage well he was up there his TT was very very good I think I think he could be seen as go leader he was on 148 7 seconds behind C Rod so any it’s hard it’s hard to really declare regardless of whether any’s tactics worked or not today I find it very nice to see that they’re trying something different a crack same with Bora um and in the end it was Derek G pacing Derek G pacing and finally maybe the third rogl attack Works rogl goes Chone looks Snappy on his wheel he can follow Jorgenson cannot and rogl Rit gets across to actually maybe vlasov and Deo Jenson goes to the wheel of Deo and then Deo loses the wheel of Chone Jon’s also cannot respond or take over the wheel whilst vlasov is absolutely driving it for rogl with Remco behind with Rodriguez behind now with Jorgenson behind jacone I think he finished in the goodu cous sort of car park in the TT more or less so they don’t care about Chone being there from a GC perspective and um just perfect from Bora perfect from vlasov I me vlasov was so strong he could have easily won this stage vlasov easily could on this stage uh but they he helps RIT uh full wholeheartedly and basically then we get into the question will RIT we still don’t know the full answer yet Benji because we’re like okay RIT has attacked a few times he follow but Chone still there and he’s how how good will he be and then we get the answer 500 me to go blof pulls off and we see like the Vintage RIT uh stomp uh where he just gets into the drops lifts it and ch not even an attack CH just cannot respond and Rit with the way we’ve seen him win many many times before he wins his first road stage for Bor Hans grower in the green points Jersey frogit yeah he he’s always so good in the green jerse in the points Jersey he always he’s always good there and uh they got to be very very happy with that he has to be very very happy with that wins the stage by 3 seconds of Chon 11 seconds on vlasov that goes to show you how good vlasov I think did the same W as Ro glit on this climb maybe more uh Rog goes into the GC lead by 19 seconds ahead of Remco 58 ahead of Jorgenson so he also takes the yellow Jersey G comes back on the Deo Jorgenson group so Delo basically paced behind Bora for a long time but eventually they lost another 10 seconds G finishes fourth on this stage cute best clim performance of his career by far on 13 seconds jensson fifth on 17 Delo and Rodriguez on 22 D actually stronger than C rod in the end rco bursts in the last K to take back a lot of time he finishes 42 seconds ha 50 hly ler 53 with scotson Callum that is and jaier Romo in 13th laano in 15th this has got to be the biggest collection of riders over 70 kilos in a top 15 of a 9% 30 minute climb on a world toour race for a long long time we’re looking at G Jorgenson d hag maybe yeah hag i’ would say Romo and laano a third of them yeah scotson no he’s not that big I don’t think he’s a climber his PCS is 77 kilos but I doubt that he’s not he was 77 kills during this performance he win World Champs TT every year he can’t be 77 that being said looking at this performance firstly conclusion number one finally RIT is showing what we saw in the past outside of time Charles is here and that’s exactly what we needed to see before the tour fron to see him as that competitor he’s definitely a Podium competitor I’d like to see him be a GC Victory competitor in that race as well as close to the others as possible on the same level I don’t care I want a competition at that race and seeing this from Primos is great before the T frons and in addition to that not just Primos but the fact that vazov was willing to fold into a domestique roll that they tried something like a it’s it’s not really a reverse lead out which then turns into a lead out on the climb but that’s how I’m going to call it it’s like a a satellite Rider you launch on the same climb is how it ended up working but um I love the strategy I love how they played it out um in addition to that they had hindley who kind of wrode in the background today and that’s okay because he wasn’t necessarily needed to fix situations or to be part of that but that adds another layer to it to the point that they have him as well in Mountain stages in the in the coming month for example that being said regardless of rogl doing this today I still am of the opinion that considering ritch’s crash rates you need to consider having one other person as a backup leader closeing GC as long as possible into the race to have some security but RIT is definitely the the go-to leader for this team obviously before the Tor FR but outside of that Chone the fact that he came back from injury delivered second place here looks really good yes he’s in that Jenson situation still still a wonderful performance Derek g i I’m I’m stuck with Derek G cuz I I’m like few days ago ah he’s going to go for to the front stage is climbing very well he’s w a stage here now blah blah blah but I’m also on the page of FR and wood sorry but none of you should be claiming even 1% of a leadership position at the to front cuz Derek G would be a better GC run than than those two at the tour and with his time trial capabilities he could combine fighting for a top 10 position through third week breakaways to to France you can top 10 I think so too there’s a gravel stage there’s those rly TTS like you say I mean maybe it’s his punch that’s the problem like on the the Italian dep I don’t know it’s dere G becoming a GC I will say this is not the same as the other stages we got this weekend okay as in that that number of big guys like Romo like lascano like d Jon G being so close and then seeing also Chone basically with rogish the whole time mhm s means to that this was basically a walk up to the bottom and then whack it for 30 minutes um and yeah I don’t know I don’t know I feel like actually sorry it wasn’t it was Val that CH beat Rin not l l he got dropped but um yeah I would yeah I was the one that just called G for top 10 in the tour but the I wouldn’t draw every conclusion for the tour from this one stage I would say this is where rogish needs to be this is where rogich has been in the past and he he did they you know executed and and this is his stage and he and he was really really good he won and Y um that’s where he needs to be but we have another two stages coming up uh I would say but on G as well if he hadn’t gone he took a wrong turn in the TT darl impy put it up on I think his Instagram he’ll be on the podium in GC now he’s three seconds behind Jenson yeah so but about that yeah have we gone through the top 10 of the stage yet I do the top 10 of the stage I’ll do top 10 on GC so R again R 19 seconds ahead of aaple so a as I said he didn’t completely collapse he’s still in second on 19 seconds jensson moves closer to AOL but further away from rogich he’s on 58 seconds uh and now can I count can I count I can’t 40 seconds or so 39 seconds behind aapol G is on 101 vlasov moves up seven spots to fifth on 132 uh Carlos Rodriguez is in sixth he moves up four spots to 140 Deo moves up to 7eventh on 153 laano actually moves down three spots but he’s still eighth on 208 Callum scotson 2115 ha into the top 10 231 jacone moves up 17 spots to 246 um so Jone’s TT cost him because if he was a minute faster he’s you know he right there in sixth or seventh uh but it’s it’s it’s important eh it is important that t TT is important but also for Fone I think you know top five in a race like this against this competition is a serious result so he’ll still be fighting for it uh but a aole oh let me preview tomorrow stage how about that okay tomorrow stage this is the hardest stage of the race I would say uh no not I would say it is 156 km long from Albertville to some uh 1600 we start with the c z but it’s actually we start basically with 30 k of climbing uh out the gate so good luck in the break formation there it won’t be televised uh then a descent little drag up to maev then down to Sal and then they do the karash 6.2k 7% Plateau another short descend then they do the C deas 14k 7% this is the undulating climb that was before the JLA on stage 14 of the tour last year it’s actually bit of a fake news climb the actual climbing is steeper than that average suggests so that’s difficult then then it descent short value of 10ks or so then a 10K 9% climb again very very steep so these climbs are actually more difficult these finishing climbs than most of the tour finishing climbs in terms of gradient like this climb has 3ks in the first third that’s 11% so very very very difficult and uh I think Benji a very different stage to today obviously it’s it’s a proper High multi- Mountain High Mountain Stage yeah for sure is going to be much more energy spent on tomorrow stage and the breakway formation will be harder uh that will take energy out of the Riders the the chase after that Breakaway if a team is willing to do that will be quite hard it’s not the longest stage but the amount of climbing in that will put pressure on teams and that’s why I’m thinking okay what will happen in this stage and the last climb is really hard that’s one thing we need to get out of the way the last come is so hard that a lot of riders might be scared to try something early as well in my opinion and then we look at GC and we’re thinking okay RIT is in the lead he had a teammate or two that are in the top 20 of GC let’s say he wasn’t in the lead Bora might try something with with vazov or with with hindley very early on but they won’t do that because rage is in the lead so Bora will ride defensively in my opinion I look at other teams quickstep in hindsight should quickstep have ridden different differently with the supposed Insider take that they had that butu wasn’t riding for GC then did the time trial uh was great there then then today he was a bit he wasn’t on the level of the honors is how I’ll say it should land have gotten a a bit more freedom I’m going into chain mode today which I personally think not because your goal is to try and Podium the T France and Landa on paper is not the writer to do that and in this Dolph you’re trying to prep your team to go for that Podium goal at the to FR so you got to try the [ __ ] that you’re going to try the tour France in this preparation race that’s my personal take yeah I agree I agree um I don’t think quickstep did anything I Pon helping patteron it makes no difference in the end bre helping P which one are you talking about exactly um the break was getting caught it was on the flo it makes no difference uh really I don’t think but um I think what Pal’s finished today he did a good TT but he felt that he crashed yesterday finished on 155 I think the break should win tomorrow uh I because as you say Bora they got the lead 20 seconds uh balls in quick steps caught if they want to win this race and I think after today you would think quickstep would be going thinking let’s try to finish on the podium right uh I don’t see why after today quickstep would come out tomorrow morning and say we’re going to you know light this stage on fire yeah so for the Breakaway I’m looking uh French break David godu 515 you got to be in it greguar again he had a nose bed on the climb hope he’s okay but he’s a strong climber he’s got to be in it he lost a lot of he lost time gu Marte B uh full saying maybe he should be helping G to be honest cous if he’s got it if he can recover um who else maybe even Mankey I mean he Mankey jumped in in doofan breaks I remember in the past two there’s this is almost like the end of a grand tour where there’s a lot of half decent climbers here yeah on about 3 minutes plus with nothing to lose and we we open with 30ks of climbing tomorrow yeah Cous I mean he’s on he’s on like 14 I think so he really he really can go in the break uh with formo form yeah yeah um but inos for example I’m also not thinking that they will try anything early necessarily either I’m looking at the Rodriguez and the pl that are in GC on Sixth and Seventh they’ll try and just play the game and see where they land at the end of tomorrow stage in my opinion I re they got to go for it like breakway wise and so forth no no no go like well they didn’t romeny as as in making the climbs hard and see whether that benefits yeah I don’t R should always beat Rodriguez on this finish right he should always put 20 seconds just with his burst cuz like your your theory would also include well Adco Dro today on an easier stage maybe you got you got to drop G you got there not just red R there other guys MCO and G are the guys that you can pass most likely if you hard paace tomor on stage based on today’s performance lascano and Scot are probably going to keep behind I’m like performed very well today but I’m not expecting them to beat Carlos Rodriguez and L PL necessarily or one of them at least tomorrow evening so I they I see definitely the possibility for Rodriguez and the pl to both get into the top five and then your question is can you beat jensson can you beat vazov flov will depend on how much he falls into that Dom rooll for R which he he did but you just got to beat Remco right yeah if you see weakness there so I don’t see why would you go for it today if you had to pick the two stages and someone asked you which one Suits You More by the way who won the stage that had razin last year Jesus Christ dude Carlos Rodriguez won Rodriguez he won on this J okay he was dropped by uh yanis and oh you me in the tour yeah yeah in the tour I was thinking why was Raz and the doin last year maybe it was um I don’t see why you go for today and then and say oh well rogich out kicked him pack it up um I don’t know so to me it’s inos because Bora don’t Bora they got the lead and they got vas over ahead of Rodriguez so they’re chilling rco just got kicked in the teeth he’s going to defend I’m mostly intrigued by Breakaway information phase ofer control that Breakaway formation as in can someone like Mark Soler COV slip into the away I think I think land’s got to be jumping if you’re doing a dress rehearsal for the tour you want a test borer yeah yeah I I I lowkey agree Bob jungles Niko Den you really going to be on Mark COV and mark C jumping Mark COV Mark Mark Mark and Mark COV Mark COV yeah so I think it’s an opportunity to put some pressure on those uh Riders maybe four five six s in that Bor team you can’t put pressure on vlasov and Rit there vlasov is flying but but reality is we’re probably overthinking it compared to other teams and the teams probably go a bit more traditional than that it’s a weekend do we see do weekend stages when they are hard it does kick off and the stage starts early so the Riders might not be fully awake yet so might be more willing to go crazy tomorrow might be the later one I think it started at 9:30 in the morning Sunday one no in the UK well you’re in a [ __ ] up time zone not my fault 10:30 European time it starts tomorrow tomorrow no Mrs Rouge who’s uh producing today because Luke uh was doing uh doing an important exam says that it finishes at 2:30 tomorrow so Benji is correct it finishes when before Benji even it starts before Benji even wakes up um Fair I thought Sunday maybe it’ finish it a different time I don’t know why that is who you got who you got for tomorrow who do I have for tomorrow ah I just want I see a I want to see a french guy win means yeah me too birthday I was going to pick him I knew it I’m I’m GNA pick a french guy Babel COV that’s a cheat Cod exact actually where is he on GC 314 maybe that was good re yeah not sure he’ll jump I’m not sure I’m not convinced he’ll jump in the break I’m going to go with the oh it needs to be a pure climber I’m going go with Greg with Greg back to back in the break so I’ll go with Greg you’ve gone with B go do I want I want all I want 10 French riders in that breakway tomorrow minimum and GC Benji what changes I um based on today you would say ohco loses more time I’m not sure I would expect G2 drop out of the top five on paper on a stage like that but I’m very welcome to a surprise tomorrow I’d expect loano to drop out of the top 10 tomorrow but i’ I’d welcome that surprise as well I think landof jumps into the top 10 because I don’t think they’ll Focus fully on MCO anymore I think hindley top 10 I think Henley is going to be better tomorrow yeah I think Henley might be good tomorrow I got a feeling and I also bad today yeah I think Landa Landa moves up into the top eight tomorrow I think Landa Landa will be good tomorrow uh I think so I really yeah what they do with Lander I’m not sure but I think even helping Remco he’ll be so strong that he will move up a lot of GC positions uh and what happens with Jorgenson G and Enos boys and Lano we’ll find out we’ll find out I can’t wait for this weekend of racing and also R has got to defend Benji now everyone every all eyes are on Bor so but they got they got the best climbing team here by far at the moment so it should be a good weekend I can’t wait to watch uh anything else well I would like to shamelessly plug my uh my procycling manager video that I uploaded yesterday I started a new career mode on Pro cycling manager with the German Continental team rbe pro cycling and we’re going to try and make this a witer team and win the Twitter fronts in about seven in game year so that’s the goal uh if you want to check that out it’s on the Benji Nason YouTube channel so that’s my Shameless plug uh go and check that out make sure you go check out Benji nassen YouTube channel uh just whipping around some of the other race results uh Volta catalunia feminina began today it’s a 2.1 as Friday Saturday Sunday they do lolina tomorrow which is the main climbing stage actually good start list vima’s there fdj is there with muich Voss Marcus uh Maggie K’s Listia good Sprinter mullman gigantti it’s a world tour level start list uh with some good climbers today’s stage was a uh Sprint around Manor a hey Sprint and Ali walliston beat Mariana Voss and so she is uh after having a a long layoff about 4 months after the Australian season she came back at ride London classic with some half decent results and then bang wins the stage suited to her I saw her actually I think training a lot uh here uh on the big climbs and she wins ahead of Voss so that’s pretty good yeah I would say on that sort of finish uh in the tour of Britain women which is World Women’s World Tour race first stage Was Won by keki head of p nosta in a photo finish that P nosta thought she won and they had a gap of three 50 ahead of uh the group with viers in it which I would actually say is a bit too risky for for SD Works um because what if keki I has a Mech or something but anyway didn’t she didn’t and then she broke away today and one with Anna Henderson and Vias finished 20 seconds behind there’s a little Hill on the course Horseshoe Pass when they finished in rexam tomorrow stage is around Warrington where my grandfather was born and it’s a flat Sprint that vbus should win and then there’s also another flat Sprint on stage four so looks like SD work should win probably all four stages and keki will win GC I dare say did you speak about GP kon’s article already because that is a hilly course in Switzerland basically consecutive Hills uh and in that race we had a reduced group Sprint ending up at the finish line with the likes of Roa hiita Fabio Christen deloro fogger the Danish dude on ja Adria betol and the winner was Maxim Von Hills who was the fastest in that group after winning Ebor Frankford already so he’s really getting better at these like reduced Sprints and that man’s list of results this year he won that shitty it and Andalucia then fifth at fesh third at F Drome classic third at Str seven at MSR Let’s ignore the three results at Catalonia where he didn’t really perform in then dnf on stage three but then it restarts second at IND durine 20 for still gold race that’s his weakest result outside of Catalonia third at flesh fourth at lbl third at foren Classic first at Edan Frankfurt first ATO hanaro this man has grown out to be one of the if not the best Rider on Lotto Destiny this year when it comes to point scoring at least and arguably when it comes to results yeah had the Le back when it comes to getting results after he fought of the ticks in the flamish fields but veld’s been on point has been was hit by a car the other week if I recall correctly yeah he was but is he still one of the one of the top Point scorers you think Don Hills yeah he’s broken 2,000 points he’s broken 2,000 points today before the tour and he is he doing the tour uh yes okay but if he goes and do if he if he went if he skipped the tour and he did a lot of [ __ ] like if he did if he just farmed Luxembourg he win GC but if renui okay yeah but lot don’t even need the points anymore so they should send that he’s their best Rider I think he’s better than Del Le this year they’re in the luxury position that they can send these Riders and go fully for for for the yeah exactly and that’s also why we saw them in the classics really going for victories instead of trying to get positions around it because matter about it they they got the wild card for next year the onee wild card to all the invit it’s done looks great too the threee is also knock on wood for them is done so yeah they should he’s not here for points he’s here at this race to win yeah and and he won and I think they should be uh they should be commended and he should be commended he’s been extended so you know like CU this you know who this man looks like to me Benji looks like a mark Kishi replacement yeah yeah at UAE and um so they should be they should be glad they’ve extended him already he is a very very good Rider 24 years old Maxim van Hills and as we said nasty kick on him I would like to see whatt is like because we saw that that small TT and Andalucia but I want some confirmation on that during the season because who knows he could win something like bologa or an easy romand d one we race you know yeah yeah cuz longer climbing I’m not sure yet but he’s like a he’s like the puncher type that can win an easy onewe stage race if that makes sense the like the Magnus Court stage I reckon he could be in that group should be in theory should and he can Sprint from that yeah his Sprint is good his uphill kick I mean I’m excited to see what he can do in the T I mean could this man be the Victor Lefay of this year’s Tour on the grande PA as a I [ __ ] hope so on COD to P he’s suddenly there yeah and and and then there’s a flat finish and he can win a Sprint or something like he don’t be surprised okay but then but yeah na to UA UA was the rumor uh I think that’s all the results ZM to the Breakaway one so 36-year-old Peter schulting on the uh he’s been a bit of a he’s a Cony journeyman he won uh the biggest race of his career uh in his in his home race so that was that’s called it’s always cool to see ahead of Casper Van Udin and de and uh this weekend as well do a head hland tomorrow which is I I quite like as a Classics race moo Groves vus called tiller Till’s one four abrah Hanson Sheen so all the sort of classic sprinty boys the second tier ones are all doing that so that’s always a good watch uh and also the women’s race and then on Sunday T twiss starts so lots happening uh and yeah I can’t wait for this weekend of the Doan Benji I’m going to go to the women’s uh catalunia start in LEL tomorrow um because that’s down the road literally and yeah see see that sty which is always nice I like going to the I like going to Catalonia so I also like the rer I got fifth in in the in the Catalonia stage Minaj on uh is it C this I’m pretty sure um yes uh liisa Minaj 19 he’s 19 not bad well she win fr U23 Road Race yeah last month I don’t know the women’s the women’s stuff is tough because there are so many races like no disrespect to them but like J went to that Andalucia race right and they just cleaned it they they like one two three every stage just about and I’m like what does that mean you know but then this is Vos Wallis and Sierra guini EX I don’t care there’s a 2-1 there’s serious rers here so I need confirmation of course it’s like next to the the French 223 range this is like the first proper result this year so she 19 it’s a good sign so it’s like Julie bego like yeah if Julie bego was doing that in a men’s one one she would be so hyped everyone would be like what the hell like what she’s with music she’d be you know Sam shell Rider yeah bunell uh who won who won so um maybe M was on an off day but it’s there because there’s no real some there’s some U23 women’s teams does UAE have a Dev team uh jco now have one liula sorry but um it’s not as like many U23 teams or or dedicated races so there’s a lot of the top Juniors just go straight to even more so than the men’s into the world Women’s World Tour like we saw little Tre and and Vis [ __ ] last few years uh that’s all from us I hope you enjoyed the podcast uh thanks for all your kind comments to me earlier today and we’ll see you with a recap of the Mountain Stage on to S tomorrow till then ciao bye

Froglic is cooking – be afraid
ppl being impressed by roglic. this isn't his best yet.
@lanterne rouge : How realistic is it for Evenepoel to reach the required level to compete for the podium in the TdF given current form?
Seeing that Jumbo has a number of doubts of their leading riders its seems a no brainer to take Kooij to the TDF.
Never sampled any of Benji's earlier PCM videos, but the new video is tops! Great introduction to the game.
Congratulations Patrick! Looking forward to seeing your PCS page from 1 October 😜
(Also, pst, unsolicited advice warning: doing two full-time jobs, even if you do love both of them, it is a lot, eh? Please take care of yourself.)
Congrats
Bling crashed out of Aargau. No idea of injuries.
GC Gee eh?
Congratulations Patrick! What a great opportunity!
This tdf is shaping up reaaaal good
Well spoken Benji ! #TdF24GCGee
….but why did the lead car go the wrong way as well? Honestly, those riders should be allowed to draft that car to recoup that time.
Derek Gee is my spirit animal right now. Froome needs to ride for him (from here on out) If he wants to go to the TdF then he should really think about taking on a Landa like role for IPT. The thing is, I'm not sure he has the legs to even be a good henchmen.
Roglič's shoulder is probably gonna be hurting for days to come, but it shouldn't hamper riding the bike. The things he described (limited mobility, tightness around the shoulder and in the nick because of it) are something I often get from some chronic problems in my left shoulder and they're generally annoying, but don't pose a problem for riding.
Hopefully he gets better soon.
GeeCee Gee! (credit: my brother!) Evenepoel should invest in some dark shades and keep them on at all times, because otherwise you can spot he is en bloc from a mile away; he gets that hollowed eye look.
“Derrick Geeeeeee, what the hell”
Congrats Patrick 🎉
How is Gee being a protected rider at the TDF even a question. Froome is delusional and has waaay too much power in that team. Just retire and (maybe) hold onto what remains of our positive memories of your career.
Congratulations Patrick!! Well deserved, both of you have excellent insight, knowledge & the attention to detail is bar none, you’ll be an asset to any team you’re associated with.
Congrats Patrick, wishing you continued success.
