We are currently in the Dordogne and with the weather looking grim decided to head south for a few days . We spent a few days exploring the are around the Canal du midi .

There are so many ways to enjoy this beautiful area.
1) Walking . All 240 KM of part . We did the stretch around Carcassonne which meant we could take in the beautiful medieval city .
2) Cycling – Take your own bikes or hire . There are hire locations in the main towns along the route . You can do the whole route or again there are many itineraries to suit your needs. We also found these pay as you go cycles in Carcasonne which are fab if you just want to take an hour or 2 to explore the canal .
3) Cruise the canal – there are excursions that leave from Toulouse , Castelnaudry, Carcassonne, Bezier and Sete . These are from 11/2 hours to a full day .
4) We stopped off at a few locks and enjoyed watching the boats go through the locks . Not all ways easy
5) Hire a boat ( minimum 4 days ) and cruise the canal . Boats have from 2 to 12 capacity. No license is required but a full safety briefing will be given .

Thanks to the tourist office in Trebes for all the information .

Hello we are Andy and Julie we have taken a years (or maybe more) sabbatical from work to travel at home and abroad.

To date our travels have included St Lucia, Martinique, back packing in Columbia and Peru. At home we have visited St Ives (Cornwall), Cumbria, and North Devon.

We are currently on a 8 week adventure in France staying in the Dordogne region to get a feel of French life and polish off the French

Later in the year our adventures and travels will include Hong Kong, Vietnam and Sardinia.

This year is about new adventures , new experiences , pausing the 9-5 , spending time with family and learning new skills. Our mantra for the year is CARPE DIEM (seize the day) !!

here we are on the canal dumi it’s 240 km long and stretches from toose to the Mediterranean Coast so here’s five things that we think would be brilliant to do along the canal so number one walking here we are walking along the canal here car or cycling you could do the hall route or just choose from one of many itineraries and in carcasson they’ve got these pangur Cycles Perfect all three simply take a cruise and a guided tour and four if you like to people watch then stop off at a lock get out and watch the boats as they go through the lock and sometimes it’s a bit tricky and finally why not hire a boat and sail the whole 240 km on a boat
