Did a three-day tour of the Route des Vins in Alsace a couple of weeks ago. The weather was absolutely stunning, and the route was even more stunning. This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to, period. We stayed in a village along the route, and took one rest day overall, but otherwise it was 100km per day for a 3-day tour.
Lots of gravel roads as well as asphalt involved. I will say that the gravel routes in France were a lot rougher than what I’m used to here in Germany. Lots of unevenness, holes, and sharp rocks to be on the lookout for. Just overall a lot more natural and wild – which was tough to ride, but beautiful to experience.
Along the way we stopped at some major cultural/historical places like Colmar and Obernai, as well as a large number of other charming villages and small towns. I wanted to spend hours at each one, just taking photos and whatnot, but alas, schedule had to be kept 🙂
