A day spent on the Great Central railway where there was a steam and DMU train and bus heritage rally weekend on 18th and 19 th May 2024 The preserved line runs from Leicester North near to the site of the old Belgrave and Birstall station to Loughborough Central but they are planning to reunify the Ruddington section of the line a half a mile away together to make a railway of 19 miles .There were 2 steam locomotives and 3 Diesel Multiple Units out.I will be exploring more of the Great Central railway both the sections that are used as cycle and footpaths and also the disused abandoned sections.a great loss this railway was #steam #railway #beeching #preservation #greatcentral

4835 take it train out [Music] going off to roly and then um the BR L these un there the TR they used to run on the um on the line further down anyway it’s a bus rally and also the uh Steam and also diesels as well so it’s just a bit of hopp up and down the line today so you can uh just enjoy see what you can see be lots of retro buses as well Central on my explore this is on The Preserve section of the line between obviously ler to leer North uh so each of the stations here is done of a different style um pretty pretty much of the period 1940s 50s uh so basically the old awnings lots of old Advertising Signs sort of Life at a byon age of such pretty much preserved that way as well so um yeah you find here as well that basically The Villages the train line served we’re about a mile south here um same with roofle and uh pretty much same with ler and also the outskirts of Leicester but as I said it was pretty much a country line which uh served its purpose but it did well anyway should never have been um dismantled 78018 departs [Music] [Music] going to the SCH corn Goods yard and you’ve got a turntable here that um moves the um turntable around to reposition wagons so um yeah these were up and down the line on the Great Central especially in big Goods yards for marshing and chunting so uh presume that’s still operational because there are wagons on that turntable and obviously the points and stuff so I’m going to have a look see what I can find with this so we in the Great Central Museum in l showing you some of the old mobilia here old signs familiar to the line bits that all pulled up and then Rec to the museum here and uh yeah lots of old memories old plates of locomotives that us the line as well lots of old there I didn’t really know too much of the line itself when I was a younger L but as I said I’m walking the whole route on exploration so I’m going to be passing quite a lot of these uh are the three locomotives there 73156 48 385 78019 4583 far is just waiting maintenance checks and it’s going to head back onto its train the other two are not in use today but you could go about 30 40 years ago I think you’re at Leicester Central shed or Woodford H further down on the line me memories of a byon age as I said uh steam taken over by diesels and then diesels taken over by electrics but Heritage love it Platform One of lus Central Station so each of the stations here was done at a different theme 1940s and 1950s take you back in time but as I said with my explore you see this is The Preserve section from leer North to lbra it will be extending out further in time to rodington so as I said I’ll be exploring the further sections further north which we abandoned from Nottingham and going north and then heading south down towards London as well so we look forward to exp in the next few weeks but it’s really spent at Old station well worth a visit Bridge coming up 360 w go in [Music] order 3 61 coming up [Music] corn signal box so a lot of these are lovly restored to the original um functions as well um as say they are extending the line eventually from uh leester North all the way up to rington and noing and but they’re trying to bridge the gap um as I say big massive project putting Bridges and embankments in um as I said each of the stations is done in a different theme but it’s well worth a visit it’s like the seven Valley Railway anything that keeps a Heritage and preservation aims going is brilliant so uh keep on supporting these railways just reversing back onto it train Rich tender there we go we are ready to Pi up
