very well thank you um so for our viewers who are watching who don’t know who you are could you give yourselves a quick introduction please yes we are for [ __ ] sake with a four Y and uh my name is Marios my name is austan and uh somewhere around London we have our drummer leash and our BAS is Mika but unfortunately couldn’t be here with us tonight but it’s okay we’ll cover for them yeah absolutely no that’s no problem at all we’re looking forward to seeing them again on Saturday so we’re just sort of telling the guys watching um we’ve sort of played a few shows with you in the past um I think we’re on the if I’m not mistaken on the first Fox Fest up at the C hes yeah yes awesome yeah so could you tell us a bit about sort of where you got the idea for that first and what what brought that about so basically we’ve uh cards and horses was where we started actually I think our first gigs were there and also we were running the open mic there back when it was a completely different uh layout like it it had a garden and it was reminiscent to how it was back in the day when Maiden started playing there yes before the the stage on the ground that it is now wasn’t there so that’s something they’ built recently so before everything was upstairs yeah so uh yeah yeah so we started playing there we were running the open mic uh you know we got in touch with the people who run the the whole shtick and uh we’re just waiting for it to reopen and see uh you know what the new opportunities might present themselves and uh yes it reopened like after eventually after Co and everything uh made the new stage it’s a completely different vibe than than it was like uh it uh I think it it used to be more welcoming than it is right now because back in the day people would just come in they would hang in the garden then they would see the live bands which were in the same area as the pop people and it was more of a United Vibe for us and and everybody wanted to keep it that way it’s just because of regulations that they have to tear it down and rebuild and stuff and it’s more of a proper venue let’s say at the moment but at the same time it’s just it’s it’s more difficult to get people in the in the venue area let’s say and make it more of a of a thing and uh yeah we started doing the open mic again uh and then basically uh the the owner people the guy who runs it was like Castro he was like look if you guys wanna put on your own thing uh I’m fine with it whenever there’s a a gap in the monthly schedule just ask me for it and know you can get the venue um fantastic yeah you must have proved yourselves to them then well I I guess uh I think he’s open to giving out the venues to who to people he could Trust basically or uh he like I think even if there are people out there who are listening right now who want to do this we can put in a good word I’m sure he’d be more than welcome uh uh to give the venue out um yeah um basically our let’s say goal or the reason we’re doing it in the first place is because uh after playing in London for like the past four years or so including covid which was like a downtime or whatnot uh you soon realize that uh the majority of promoters it’s not all of promoters they’re promoters only in name like take money and run s thing yeah they just literally like have some agreement with certain venues across London they reach out to a bunch of bands and their whole philosophy is you know what we’re going to get eight to 10 bands to play we’re going to ask them to bring like 20 people like promoters like bands like and and the bands that play there are are new bands like they’re people with no crowd that want to gain an audience and suddenly you got people telling you oh yeah sure you can play just bring us 20 people and then we’ll pay you when x amount bring people and then the ticket prices are like something stupid 10 pound minimum yeah yeah and like yeah and then there’s no promotion going they they literally tell you to do the promotion they’re like oh yeah please go and promote our show or us they seem more like coordinators than promoters a lot of the time what I think we thought was really cool about uh you guys putting on this show is that you’ve kind of you’re starting to build a scene around it um it seems that you know the aim was always to sort of create a bit of a sort of a regular spot where you were getting bands on that haven’t necessarily been heard of around the country but give them a chance to play up in London and hopefully you know you’ll get to play with them in the future that’s that’s exactly the plan like from our side we just want to make a hasslefree experience for new bands that’s why we provide the majority of the backline apart from the PA is our GE so that you know new bands that don’t necessarily own expensive stuff or Everybody’s Free to bring their own stuff but at the same time we just want to make it easy for everyone to come and perform give them give them a chance to play we even go out and uh uh so we first of all we have the entry we used to have it we we had it free the first time the first time we did it we had it free but we literally uh first of all we spend money on Flyers which no promoter does like we literally like a minimum of like 30 quid and we go to like uh we check when whenever there’s whenever there’s a concerts in London which is quite often so we try to sort of plan it uh to print in off flyer so we can go at the end of the concerts and just hand out flyers to to people yeah did one we just did one last night it was Cy Taylor in London uh so we just waited outside and give it to people we try to go out the back and see if Cory was coming out always wor a go Saturday now you never don’t know where they go half the time they must have like some secret exit we’re not aware of yeah so um yeah basically what we’re doing now is we’re also offering every band like at least a 100 pictures we have like a a professional camera that we bought for the for the band that we so one of us uses the camera to take pictures of all the band another one of us does the door another one of us does the sound the sound engineer and then the one guy’s just switching with who whoever is tired and yeah for sure for that we like I think it’s fair to put A5 pound entry which enables us not only to promote the event whether that’s with flyers or Facebook ads but also I’m not going to lie most of the times because we don’t ask anything from the bands we don’t we’re not like you need to bring 10 people or five you can bring no one if you want you can just go on stage and perform but at the same time we we can’t offer you anything else other than the stage the sound the pictures which we give out to everyone for free obviously and uh and and and they ease to play uh but uh if there’s some money this will this will enable us to bring bands that are outside of London because I think the fair thing is if you’re from London then you’re only going to pay a tube right there I mean that’s nothing you would have went for coffee or whatever or or you know but if you’re bringing someone that’s outside London I think it’s for that at least you you’re able to to give something to help with expenses with expenses absolutely we’re trying to be fair like we have it as long as I think it’s a Fiverr like everyone can afford a Fiverr I think to get it yeah yeah it’s like a beer isn’t it really yeah exactly or yeah were even trying to get a beer included with that but that wasn’t no go don’t if margins will allow that yeah I think um a lot of people realize how much work actually goes into the organization of shows um we’ve got a friend actually who I think’s watching at the minute who’s working on a show down in Bournemouth for the first time completely new to it but there’s a lot of people who are seemingly interested in it but when they start doing it they realize how much is going on actually um so5 for a ticket and how many bands you put on normally it’s four or five bands isn’t it so four five we’re trying different formulas as well like see what what’s the most efficient because it’s a Saturday it’s in London but it’s not Central London so we’re trying to to make it like find the best the best formula for that the problem is is that uh especially like again the promoter gigs which we had one lately we’re not going to name the promoter but but like they give you like 30 minutes it sets which is okay somewhat but they they they want to shove so many bands in because they know that oh at least if they if nobody brings anyone we’re just gonna get our money’s worth from them B buying beers so that’s so that’s fine but like um uh yeah half hour whatever but there the everything’s always in a rush the turnover is always you know just horrendous five minutes to completely pack now yeah and everyone just ends up not having a great experience where their set getting CAU like our set got cut for example we played 18 minutes instead of 18 you ever seen that uh the famous video now kind of Infamous of Billy Joe Armstrong one minute one minute just in [ __ ] I I I almost pulled it pulled it off like against your guitar is like a game Ender isn’t it for them it’s fine his guitar so that’s how your Tool’s gone yeah yeah so I know especially in new band is kind of hard for a lot of people to play 45 minutes but for the most part we like to give an hour per band including turnovers and whatever and we’re flexible with that and from what we’ve seen like the inial idea was to make it a day thing you know it starts from Two and blah blah blah blah but I don’t think it works because the the people get there at like around like 7 yeah so ideally and the problem with the with the area is that if we get the first band on at eight like we always play last uh the majority of the time so that we always get the shittiest slot because we want we want the bands that we invited to you know H have a good time it’s not about us it’s about the band we’re just we’re just playing as well because we love playing so we always uh try and play last whenever like it it accommodates but what we found is is that whenever we play at close to 11 it’s literally it’s scattered and people start leaving and yeah and because because of the trains as well because because of the area lots of people are rushing to just get out so like ideally I think if it’s it’s seven eight nine 10 so yeah so it’s four bands if it’s four bands let’s say you start 7:30 and and yeah you can do five bands but someone’s going to get a bit Yeah tends to be the way we we found um sort of three or four bands tends to be quite optimal um yeah especially for the shows down here I mean we we don’t necessarily have the train issu so much there’s a lot more a sort of taxi or Barrel biking culture down here we uh we find ourselves into you know the Boris bikes they have in London yeah that’s sort of more recently been introduced into our quiet little towns in Dorset and they’re very good after a night out because the roads aren’t busy they’re empty cycling down the beach and all that it’s a bit of a laugh actually I wanted to give props to you guys by the way this is why I I I remembered from from from that day especially like we’ve had like four Fox fests up until now I think maybe four five I think I think four or five you guys I if I remember correctly you went on first yeah I think you and on first you’re the band that we had that came furthest away from London and you stayed till the very end had some beers with later and then drove back like man we go hard when we go some fun with it mate I’m telling you like I don’t know what’s going on with with people and the the like what sort of sort of vanilla ass rockers there are around place the amount of excuses we get to oh guys we hope we could stay and watch your s but we got to [ __ ] like you expect that from the people like you know okay the crowd is whatever okay but the bands like come on like it’s a Saturday night it’s a Saturday night it’s we talk about this quite a lot actually it’s um it’s something we noticed as well but for us it’s kind of uh we part of the the reason we we play so many shows we get to see for free or paid we get to see the bands that we enjoy watching as well so I think there’s a bit of a there’s two mentalities on it there’s a lot of people who kind of see it as work and then they want to get in and get out but then there’s I I think there’s a lot more with a similar mentality to us now that are coming up especially I mean around the local scene we’ve got now where bands are like actually I’m getting to see bands that are still proving themselves that are still working their way up the ladder for free why would I not be here the whole night that’s wild to me I don’t know I think it’s about sort helping each other out as well if you can stand in the crowd and feel the help F the crowd out for all the bands that are there they the energy is better because the feels like the crowd’s bigger and it’s all these little things and then you can stay around help pack down and chat to them at the end it’s just about creating a scene for everybody rather than just your own band you know yeah yeah no definitely and also the thing mentioned that it’s uh some people see it as work but this is part of the work yeah like you need to stay till the end to say that you work you did the work yeah you know what I mean yeah absolutely so um as we sort of moved on to more the performance side of things let’s talk a bit more about for F’s sake so how did you guys sort of originally come about and how long have you been going okay do you want the the short story or the long story like which one’s best well I’ll say the long story shorter so well me and elash the drummer uh I was in a band called red wire about like six seven years ago again in London um we went through drummers like it was nothing just like drummer of the drum Dr because the thing with drummer is I’m I’m sidetracking again anyway viewers might not care but I’m just going to say it real fast drummers are the most um are the the the the the most musicians that are session musicians so that it’s really hard to find someone that actually believes in B actual band and you know making zero money until whatever yeah one of the reasons why it’s so hard to get money so yeah eventually I uh elash came became part of the became part of the band for different reasons or whatnot I had had enough uh at that point and like a few months after elas the joined I decided to part ways with the band and I actually uh went to a corporate job and after I lost my mind with a corporate job I’m like no this is not over we’re going to get back on it so I contacted elas and I’m like yo how how are you doing are you still with them what you doing uh like no no no I’ve I’ve been out of music for a while as well he’s been he had been focusing on his carpentry I’m like let’s let’s make a bad again I’m like yeah sure okay let’s do it okay so I told theah okay you go go find me some musician be fair if he’s a drummer they’ll be looking for him so way around and uh and we H we found the best deal get one and get one free basically basically me and Mika we had met uh we had met in London like a year before we made for Fox sake and we played in the a band together for a for a short period of time but we were trying on the side to make like our own project and so yeah so I’m the guitar player mik was a bass player and then so we saw that ad uh oh was the ad I don’t know I I never so I think M answer said Yeah so basically it’s m and we sort of made the first connection so then yeah we went for drinks in cden with just elash that guy couldn’t be bothered so gonna maintain the lead singer man I get it I get it so yeah elash sort of talked us through he’s like oh yes I know a singer he’s a bit of a diva but he’s all right so yeah I was in a band with that guy so yeah we should try and meet up do do a practice what what like okay we’re gonna meet up for practice what are we going to play I was like okay I know I come A huge System of Down fun let’s just learn area in toxicity and we’ll play those as real so and funnny enough I had never listened to arel or toxic really man to be fair guys play that cover and you smash it like it’s very good it’s good thanks thank you uh yeah so I so we had the the first practice uh he was late uh and I was I was actually because I heard them and I’m like wait this this stuff is hard can they actually play that and I’m like and we went to hear I’m like they complain like and I heard him sing and I was like oh [ __ ] yes okay he’s got the pipes the them pipes so so yeah yeah like we we we started off as a system of down practice practice B practice band and then I broke the news to them that I’m a Green Day fan nice um they hit it at first I remember you said oh what B you like oh let’s Zin I don’t I always CU you know cuz you know you either love Green Day or you hate green day that’s kind of the sentiment whoa yeah so I was like I’m gonna leave it for later just yeah and then them in first yeah what hook them in first yeah yeah exactly uh but yeah I think uh that was we’ve only recently kind of been able to accept each other’s influences like at the beginning because I had I had two songs that uh were almost completed that were very green dayish 2000s kind of like that I was like ah here are the songs what you think I don’t know keep them for yourself you know so and you can even hear it like in our first like in our first EP it’s uh called make believe uh that one has uh is a lot more uh heavier LS not not necessarily heavier well there’s heavy and there’s not it’s more eclectic like in the like each song has kind of its own style whereas the second DP is more yeah found your sound a bit more yeah cuz CU in the second AP they agreed to use the songs the two songs minor tweaks but there’s still Punk pop punk whatever you want to call it that kind of VI but like we’ve at least accepted that we’re everything like yes and and that’s that’s also maybe our kind of problem in marketing ourselves because you know people like to put you in genres and like don’t necessarily play one thing like we have our pun pop P whatever side and we go all the way to metal absolutely I think we understand that quite well yeah we have a similar issue um we have quite a blend now you you’ll see with our set at the weekend um we we started off very much just like in that sort of kind of a heavier area actually um but we’ve Diversified quite a bit into like more bluesy Rock recently we’ve got a few tracks now that are like full on like dance rock and it’s yeah so it’s um in terms of the marketing side though it’s interesting you say that because um I think that is that’s very true when people try and sort of pigeon hole your sound but never let them bugger them make your own thing if you have to you know yeah yeah because I think I think when bands start getting pigeon Hol especially by sort of like you know agents and you know maybe management labels it’s really easy for them to sort of sound disingenuous with their sounds um yeah yeah and I think it’s so important just to actually know what people seem to like I mean I don’t know if you guys in the band have thought the same but what people that I think have quite liked about our more recent shows is it feels really genuine it’s there’s no there’s no [ __ ] in there you know it’s like a it’s very much you know this is us this is what we do we wrote this because we wanted to hear that at the time so we’re gonna play it um although yeah you’re you’re right as well that there does need to be some element of obviously fine-tuning that um but finding that balance I think is really tough I don’t know about you guys I think what we just recently have been able to achieve then it’s it’s going to be like the second second or third time we’re going to attempt it at a live gig is having a set with all those different genre elements da actually working from start to finish with a specific set and not having to go okay for this gig we’re gonna do the punk stuff for this gig we’re gonna do the mental stuff or for this gig we’re just GNA [ __ ] around and do whatever like we’ve actually figured out a way for us to start and finish a set and not and and the audience being like wait what a minute they just played that another they’re playing this another they’re playing that like what like you know what the [ __ ] is going on like there needs to be transition from from from a certain mood to a different mood I think that abely that’s the aim yeah and you know what I think it’s really possible we’ve we’ve seen um I can’t remember the name of the band we went up to go and see them play I think it was in Winchester and there this act then they did this thing where half of their set was pop punk and the other half was like death metal blend it was really cool man like I’ve never seen anything like that before um off be like a Pop Punk song and then it suddenly go into a death metal breakdown yeah it was really so yeah but I think that being their Niche has really worked out for them they’re they’re kind of individual now I’ve not heard anything like it since either so that was what I can’t remember I think that was just coming out of lockdowns that so they’re they’re new as well they’re they’re working it all out but um I think another interesting thing when it comes to set building especially when it when it comes to like what songs You’ll Play In what order for the people out there who don’t um necessarily know what we’re on about we it it I think it helps a lot to try and almost tell a story to the crowd so whether they understand that or not whether you convey it or not it doesn’t matter too much it’s more that there’s a shape to your set and it’s like here I’m going up and then oh we’re going to drop it out for a slow one and have an emotional sort of 10 minutes and then eight we’re ramping it up again um but I think for you guys you’ve got you’ve got such a good variety of Music you’ll be able to do a lot of different things with that which is really exciting yeah thank you guys yeah I really appreciate it oh well we’re trying we we we actually just finished recording our new album yes big five yeah 10 10 years any idea when you’re releasing well time I want to say April I keep saying a I we do not know because we don’t want to commit a grand [ __ ] like we did last time basically we recorded eight songs like TPS last time and we had no idea what to do with them we’re just like okay put them on Spotify send it was it was my decision ultimately just put them out send them to a few label stuff and you know just get them out there you know what like get one date planned where you know you’re going to release your first music video and the first single off that album and then send all the others to album uh sorry to labels and and booking agents and promoters in the background all on your EPK if you get a chance to do that like and then you know try a three-month release plan or something like that we’re definitely going to take it slow because like we do not have any more money to go back into the studio the one this is like this is it like we’ve recorded another 10 songs yeah and like there’s there’s a line from one of the songs that I’m going to use right now it’s it’s make or break absolutely um well fingers crossed for you guys man and like ask every band always like we we’re always at every show we’re asking about what people’s release patterns are we always sort of trying and get a feel for like the bands that are doing well when they feel like it’s been successful for them just ask everyone like everyone’s got an opinion on it and a lot of them seem to be really useful now especially I don’t know about you I can’t keep up with all the different social media I I can’t stand Tik Tok but we got to get it and the the problem like that’s that’s that’s a depressing part of our job like because nobody wants to become a musician to be a social media influencer yeah right man and and the thing is like it rock music maybe not all of them I don’t know you used to be against the mainstream like sometimes was the mainstream but at the same time it you’re supposed to be a rebel you know you’re not supposed to do whatever like it’s it’s a really weird place to be isn’t it because the the kind of culture’s gone so far into like a a liberal way that it’s so hard to rebel against anything because everyone’s just like no that’s cool man you do that that’s that’s fine you everyone’s got their weird Kink and you can’t say anything about it so and because it’s all fine okay what what am I supposed to be angry and rebel against like how do I fight the system if it’s so accepting um must be the fact that you can’t re it you you write songs about how frustrated you are with the fact that everything’s okay yeah yeah exactly you end up in this like extremely tiring Loop kind of I guess a lot of our our themes that we write about tend to be kind of we’re very anti anti-corporate we’re not big on corporate and things like that so we’ve got songs like rise which is we did this music video where we’re all dressing like perfectly clean white clothes uh in a clean white room and all of us was doing like these mundane tasks like uh I think I was just ticking a tick sheet Callum was cleaning already clean plates um and and Stevie was counting individual grains of of white rice into it and the idea is that like that to me is the most boring part of society yet everyone has to do it yeah guess that’s what we’re turn reell Gat let the robot do that we have the same we have the same song concept but ours is not as smart is just called [ __ ] off [ __ ] off man appreciate that’s good [ __ ] um I was actually sort of leading into um what what sort of themes do you tend to find yourselves writing about nowadays how depressed we are goes about that we’re all like in our early 30s late 20s actually I’m I’m the only one is in my late 20s now so it’s like sort of that that life as a young adult Millennial where you sort of like okay the Boomers had hold the fun they destroy the planet and I the yeah the the ones after USA are doing whatever they want stuck in the middle and being depressed know is going to die in a 100 years and you sort of think oh well what’s the point maybe not but we’re all going to die yeah but like yeah um yeah it’s it’s it’s always most of the times it has a positive message you know like just don’t give up keep pushing things get better [ __ ] everyone else just you know pull through it’s all good messages but it’s all you know like the world [ __ ] the ho [ __ ] but but I think yeah I think it’s so important for I mean music is a good culture to express it as well to express like there is so much crap going on like it’d be impossible to ignore it but then you know the reassurance side of that is also equally as important I think so it’s really cool that I also get I tend to get a really positive vibe out of a lot of your tracks asle um especially with the Rifts they’re very upbeat very sort of almost happy and energetic but they’ve got a serious side to them I think I think that’s where you guys work well um yeah like uh that’s another thing like that makes our sound I think that it’s what I tell people when they’re when when I’m like I try to explain sound and I know I know it’s not Green Day or not one thing in Spec in in particular whether that’s system or food Fighters because like we have elevant for so much stuff like we have Rifts that are reminiscent to hard drug or metal but then the vocals might be pop punk but then we have other songs that uh you there are there are lead guitars in and but yeah so there’s lead guitars there’s solos there’s Rifts there’s screams there’s metal vocals there’s Punk vocals it’s a little bit of everything it’s a little bit of everything um uh I love my what’s chain of thoughts yeah what we what yeah what our songs are about yeah so kind of yeah kind of like that uh you here’s here’s an inside thing so the the the Make Believe song like the title track from the first EP and the the first music video we we had I wrote it for our drummer so if anybody wants to go back and and read the lyrics they’ll they’ll see what what what it’s all about well the verse at least the chorus is chorus is more like a hopeful it’s basically what we describe the world is [ __ ] it’s all it’s all make believe it’s Soul make believe it will get better so ah I see yeah I’m just having a read yeah I like that oh brilliant yeah yeah very cynical yeah yeah fantastic oh that’s awesome um I think there’s a question we’ve all been wondering actually um and that is why the name for Fox sake ah so for of us and so the first name we had for ourselves was Paul Forin and our drummer I think yeah because we’re all foreigners we’re like I’m from Cyprus I’m French Mika’s French as well and elash is from Portugal awesome so so yeah and elash had done this logo which looked really cool with a four and an f i oh yeah that’s really cool but the name is really bad like 44 it it’s it’s hard to say or make it sound sound nice so yeah we were just sitting at at Mario’s Place and we’re trying to think we really like the logo so what can we make that would be a good band name for that by the way that logo no longer exists the one that we like but yeah and I I I I was like well you know do are we we have the number band going like we have the four let’s think of uh animals animals with an F so Fox and then somebody said oh for [ __ ] sake no no I think we were talking just we were like [ __ ] for whatever I think we just got frustrated and said oh for [ __ ] sake kind of one of those moments you wish you had on camera you know yeah that would have made an amazing Tik Tok you know what your first would have be now yeah um but yeah and like uh but but like it was like the the moment was like great but then go online and you type or Fox and like there’s like it’s a thing like the the only thing that is not a thing is the fact that we have a the number for in front but like the expression for FX sake is a meme he been done to death I think we actually had a girl come to one of our gig not knowing us and she had a for [ __ ] sake t-shirt yeah brilliant I see you’ve kind of leaned into that quite a bit so I saw is it like um I’ve seen the fox head in a few videos now how did you get that made that’s a pretty cool prop that do we can see they can the poster yeah poster they no not not not the mask I can bring a mask but yeah the mask that’s the one yeah yeah uh but uh so basically we’re like oh this is great for us because now we have also a brand you know we’ve got the fox brand the the only the bad thing about that is though that stupid meme song the troll song that was Rel Pages ago what does a fox say yeah which like a lot of people like a what does the fox say right and and like that thing is so huge that I don’t know if it kind of interferes with the whole we could have tried to make a cover of it but it’s such a terrible one day but uh yeah so we’re like okay we have the brand thing it’s it’s the fox that’s that’s that’s the brand thing we need to make something out of it and uh basically it’s a I don’t know if it’s twofold or threefold in the for in the poster back there there’s a a guy in a suit wearing a fox mask holding on to a fox toy so again very exclusive information so the guy is uh from our point of view your average young adults uh late 20s maybe 30s who basically is barely hanging on to his Youth and dreams which is the fox toy and is wearing a mask of his former self basically nice yeah yeah that’s kind of the the idea did you have a that’s what it is aot more behind it than I thought that’s really cool it might be the first time he’s hearing this yeah didn’t tell you the [Laughter] pr um but uh yeah so like we we we try to go all in with with that theme and like our two music videos that we released are actually they can be seen as a story like if you play them what if you play help me escape after uh make believe it kind of is a whole story we’re not going to say what the plot is you everyone can interpret it their own way but work it out guys go watch out but it wasn’t even planned I know it it wasn’t it wasn’t planned to be a sequel it just kind of it wasn’t it just happened when we were filming it it was uh getting late and we we had to to rush things and we got like yeah we got the wrong Fox mask or something and so it sort of happened that character from the first video appears in the second video which wasn’t planned at all it just happened we had the same jacket and the same mask and so we thought on the spot oh actually that could be a cool thing if he actually shows up yeah and so that’s that’s cool man yeah love a bit of continuity between music videos I mean we we sort of fairly early on started planning how we could link them all together and the next EP which we’re hoping to record in January um we’ve got a few music videos planned for that that will further tie into the concepts we dived in on the first EP so um we’ve got a few music videos there’s this animated one that um was made by doriana Ray and that’s for our song bedm and if you haven’t seen that it’s it’s really cool it’s um it’s 3D animated it’s it’s Tim Burton basically it’s that kind of Animation it took literally a whole year to make um so primarily kind of like three to six months of animating literally nine months of just rendering the video it was it was wild it’s I didn’t realize almost no yeah yeah exactly that it’s um so what we did is we skipped every third frame so it looks kind of jittery and weird sort of yeah went for that stop motion effect but in in a 3D space um but that music video ties into a few others that we’ve worked on so you then see uh kind of a liveaction version of that character and sold um kind of like twisted kind of like uh I don’t know if you’ve watched um stranger things but you get that kind of upside down space they do that it’s it’s almost like that but we never really thought of it in that light it’s just that kind of uh conceptual area rather than like a physical place um but we’re diving into that a bit more and we’ve got a few characters that tie into the concept for our upcoming music video I can’t say too much yet but um we’re looking at some pretty decent actors for that I think um hopefully they’ll really be able to portray um how that all ties into the previous videos because we sort of ended up going back and making it all tie together a little bit so even even the rise music video ties together with some of the other like newer tracks now as well do you want me to to break your wings now am I allowed to is it that is that the expression cut cut your wings break yeah so yes allegedly what you’re doing is amazing and like the whole concept of it but according to the interwebs research and stuff is that what you’re trying to do an Aspire to do which is you know the the grand thing and like and what we try to do with like you know having a story and like thinking of all this intricacies people don’t give a [ __ ] apparently like literally they they it it’s as if it alienates the audience because they don’t get they don’t feel the banned as much and they don’t get to interact with you as normal human beings and it’s it it works for established act again this is the interweb speaking so like let’s say you’re a aosmith or whatever or even a smaller band but but that is established putting out a mass a music video that like you know is impressive and it has whatever it’s fine because you know you’re already famous and the the the label is going to Market you and it’s going to look amazing and blah blah blah blah blah blah but apparently if you’re a tiny band like our like ourselves uh and people don’t connect with it it’s like ah it’s this band that nobody knows really and they have this video like it has some um what’s credibility let’s say uh yeah I think it has some credibility I just I I’m I don’t know I’m just showing no heard same thing heard that yeah I I however do completely disagree that I think yeah say like say I’ve heard that and I I’ve I’ve heard that put out quite a bit and this is often by sort of the pop industry side of things um especially the commercial industry but to me I think what people really want to see at this stage especially is um quite a bit of authenticity so if that’s the ideas you’ve got I suggest just do it I think because I think PE people have really good [ __ ] detectors so if if they if they look at what you’re doing and they can tell that you’re trying to do it to be popular they’ll know straight away I don’t know how they know I don’t know how people work out but I think they have a pretty good sense of that so what I think is really important is hey we made this piece of art we really like it and we’re more likely to share it if we believe in it as well yeah um so I think that I again I agree with you on the commercial the commercial side especially but I think um I think [ __ ] him we can make our own commercial eventually you know if it’s if it’s something that just pops you say that yeah it’s like one of the most memorable you know you know what it is at the same time like it’s it’s the fact that you’re going to spend so much money and effort to make that video and and if you could use the same amount of money and effort or less effort let’s say to make some and use the the the the the money for marketing yes and make something that it doesn’t have to necessarily be fake but be again be more stripped down stripped down just show the band and you know flashy stuff and it works better yeah I mean we would we as in bands were not there yet we would be dumb not to try it I get I get I I get entirely because it’s the artistic thing in us we’re like no I have this vision and I want this to be like this and like that yeah yeah and uh but yeah like then you put it all out on YouTube and just you’re hoping that the algorithm picks you up like it’s freaking no I definitely agree when when we look at spending that kind of level of um time effort money on a video then you at least have to match that in promotion uh when it comes to marketing I think so it is about like we have a tendency we we’ll make less music videos but we’ll try and make them higher quality more so lately yeah um so we’ve done we’ve done about three music videos in I would say the last two years um but those music videos have been something I can sort of go away and say they’re proud of that actually and um there’s always something that makes it kind of interesting or hookie we aim for so we have done just the performance video and we did it on a very low budget actually I think it only costs about1 pound uh maybe just over that to our music video for smoke it away um and that track is it’s an upbeat rock song it needs just to be a raw performance the band are on stage and we’re being a bit you know dramatic um but then other tracks I think because the the lyrics are quite conceptual there’s a few things to play with and for example bedum um Bam’s not really like a hookie rock song it’s not aiming to get stuck in your head as much as other tracks might be that song’s more of a concept song that kind of tells the story of like what’s going on inside essentially a schizophrenics brain that we’ve made up okay so it’s a weird concept so what we wanted is something that fitted that sound and looked how you imagin that sound to be so we went for this kind of like again the stop motion being a big choice in that because we want it to feel just slightly wrong uh slightly weirder than the things you normally see and the hope is obviously that you know that’s the kind of thing because it’s kind of different people might remember it a bit more because I think um we’re quite visual with our work anyway when me and Stevie talk about songwriting he’s not here tonight unfortunately when we talk about songwriting we we often have a visual element already in our head which is a problem because we’re always like right we got these big Ideas we’re gonna do this crazy [ __ ] we’re likeah and obviously we have to cut that down eventually we’re very sort visual songwriters so it’s hard not to um want to create a visual element to uh our audio I think yeah um yeah cost Effectiveness is real yeah yeah yeah and the other thing is is that I don’t know if also is it’s it’s it’s the rock music um side of things that suffers the most as in if I I think this more stripped down thing or you know that you can film in your home or whatever works for some other maybe works for some genres yes you know maybe the music is more chill or like it’s more is more happy and um uh you know it’s a fun song or whatever but I feel like you know when you have uh heavy guitars and drums and like you’re you’re screaming and like you’ve got something to say and it’s just I don’t know again this might be just excuses we all make for ourselves because we want to do what we want to do yeah yeah yeah yeah I think I think you’re right there I this kind of film it in your bedroom scene came about um I think it was around 2009 when Justin Bieber popped off right they sort of Spun this story that he’d been found on YouTube and he was just recording videos in his bedroom and stuff I mean I the guy was picked up by a major management label and promoted all over YouTube before he was even picked up from my understanding so like I mean you know I think there are narratives the music industry likes to sell because they know about it can promote shows like X Factor it can promote all this music that they’re coming up with and curating I mean Justin Bieber literally was the biggest actor on the planet for a while for the reason that he had the right story around him the right songs around him and the right level of Charisma and I can’t stand the guy but he has those things you know um God I hope that’s never clipped out but um yeah but like this is part of it I think is this uh idea that actually this is all just cost-saving for the label I think putting this kind of information out there often a lot a lot of times is the label saying we don’t want to spend so much money on music videos we’re looking for the cheapest way to do it with the highest um I guess the highest profit off of that or the highest usage off of that whereas we need that as well from a business perspective that’s incredibly important but from the side of being an artist I would also say I want to create something that feels like an art that’s come from us and it’s genuine and because honestly everyone’s jobs is going to be probably replaced by AI or robots in the time where we’re alive um but I don’t think an AI is ever going to be good at being you or a combination of the four guys that are in your band so whatever comes out of your band has to dead authentic and it has to be from you guys I think so and chasing chasing Trends is a real issue for a lot of the industry I think um I don’t I’m don’t think that of you guys at all by the way you guys are fantastic you write your own [ __ ] and it shows and it’s it’s good [ __ ] but I think a lot of bands and this goes for any bands out there watching at the moment um just write what you want to write and chisel at it afterwards get a song finished before you go back and try and commercialize it in any way because you’ll at least least have that Foundation of something originally from you and I don’t think anything could beat that really the thing is if only the bigger heads thought them yeah exactly and you know what that’s the problem now is that I from my understanding again the 60s 70s kind of era the guys who were running the music industry uh they didn’t have a clue what they were doing these fat old white dudes with cigars in their mouth they didn’t they didn’t give a [ __ ] what was going on like they were giving contracts to everyone because they were like yeah sounds like a good investment why not they were just drunk they didn’t give a [ __ ] absolutely but now we’ve got you know that the people running the the music industry now seem to be these little nerds on iPads right who are like okay exactly two-thirds of the way through the song we need the middle L to come in and we need the singal section here and it needs to drop out here because the algorithm is told me this is going to be the most optimal for sales they know they know what’s going to work what’s gonna work and what’s not gonna work yeah exactly yeah and it’s all on historic data and I say this as my day job I’m a data analyst so I am one of those nerds you are one of those nerds not for music I’m I’m trying to do the dead opposite for music the complete opposite of what I do in my daytime um but yeah so I think I think um I do think there’s a bit of a hunger now especially after these lockdowns and everything for people to go and see original music new music that isn’t just provided to them on a plate and fully cooked I it’s better than last year yeah I I think slowly coming back I think it’s better than last year and it’s it might might even be better than preco like I agree I think it is I think people people realized how much they were taking for granted and actually I don’t know about you guys during the lockdowns I was locked in my pill box flat you know with my white walls and my white desk and I was like oh this is this is [ __ ] don’t like this at all um and I was getting depressed because we couldn’t go out and see our friends or go to shows and play shows especially that was the one that really got me we were like trying to scratch and scrape for ways to write songs together over lot like what trying on Discord and yeah it was aw that that was the only decent part of lockdown is that it gave us time again completely demotivated but still but still gave you some time to at least rehearse and get the the small stuff tighter write some new songs get some ideas and get ready to get back out there event I think I think like so I think we were the most unlucky one of the one of the most unlucky bands ever and I think you guys were one of the luckiest ones because we okay this was my fault partially but we released our first EP regardless of not playing in N ahead and whatever we released it in late 2019 lockdown happened in May of 2020 yeah May April yeah yeah so I had we had the second EP ready by then yeah and and so first of all we released the first EPN and after a few months okay lockdown happened but then to add insult to injury we released our second EP during lockdown we’re like okay this is not going to go on forever we’re just gonna release and the album was called help me escape so like yeah people are gonna love it because you know the thing that’s a hard [ __ ] sell that that is unlucky and you guys if I remember correctly you literally released your first material after lown yeah we saved it though we had it ready um quite a way earlier than that but we didn’t have any music videos that we wanted to release yet um no the the songs were actually ready about a year before that I think at least you just smarter than us then okay I I think he is no I wish I could claim credit for that it’s just like silly wasn’t it like you said like shooting a little music video of just the you know the four of us and a few other people obviously you could do that you know you couldn’t go and see the producer in terms of getting in the studio and just you know doing a bit of work on the songs to before the you know mixing the mastering it was all done over Discord it was just all these little things that was delaying everything you just yeah it was it was a horrible process wasn’t it it was um well that’s like Looking Back Now if I made Tik toks with the concept of the second EP we might have been golden right now we might have been flying it’s number one in China that’s the thing like I have I don’t know how to I don’t get it man like we’re from a different generation like we we we don’t understand it like I and and and that’s that’s another question I wanted to ask you guys do you think social media took some of the keys away from The Gatekeepers or just enhanced the keys in in the sense of yes now if you can do marketing on your own and you can get somewhere let’s say on your own because of social media instead of relying on someone but at the same time that someone only cares about the numbers on social media now instead of anything else yeah and at the same time there are so many variables in um regarding uh what music the algorithm or V or you know you what video or music the algorithm will push and if it’s I think it’s even less about the music now and and like it’s always been about the whole package okay yeah but I think now music is literally like the importance of it is lit there’s nothing yeah I mean I’ve got pretty constructive thoughts on this one what do you guys want to go first callaron um my thoughts with social media is it’s a sort of a bit of a win lose in a way because it’s given lots of bands and lots of IND individual people a foot in the door you know everyone can suddenly have a have a have a platform to Market on but the issue is is it’s just the oversaturation now you know everywhere you look there’s another band and you know it’s he’s giving you that foot in the door but there’s a thousand others that are also got the foot in the door so from that point of view I think you know it sort of has helped but it hasn’t helped if you see what I mean it’s exposed everybody but at the same time they’re all on that same level of just not being anywhere really you know yeah K what about you man you’re you’re pretty Savvy on this kind of you you say I’m S I literally never post ever on social media like anything I never do anything he’s a watcher he’s the guy it is good the sense because when you think about what Facebook ERS like especially Facebook you have ways of making events and stuff which everyone can see and it is almost free marketing to well I suppose just your friends but it depends who you share it out to and everything and is an easier way for everyone to see everything you’ve got going on in one place rather than being like here’s our Instagram this is where we post photos here’s you know our website that’s the only place you can see where our gigs are it is all in like one place which you can share out to everyone which does help massively than what it used to be I’m guessing you know rather than that yeah I for me it’s um I think there was a period of time where it was like the wild west on social media and that was probably the best time for bands um I think there’s obviously a lot more Tools in place now that the algorithms now that for example Facebook Twitter can Implement YouTube as well and the level of sort of censorship that goes into those sort of soft Shadow banning all this kind of stuff that goes on uh I think has kind of limited um I mean I guess there’s a freedom of expression issue there but it’s more the fact that if something’s popular it will be boosted to be more popular so it it’s very much a if you’re already popular you’re G to do fine if you’re not then you are like Aaron says completely oversaturated but I also think syndrome yeah guitar Shredder on Instagram or YouTube that’s like that’s another thing I okay am I salty or am I right it’s one or might but like I I don’t like seeing like you know amazing in Brackets musicians on social media you know just people who Okay pops up and he he’s sick at playing a 30 second whatever then there’s another guy and another guyy yeah and and to me that that’s not what that that’s not rock that that’s not what it what it’s about like it lacks the culture doesn’t it it lacks the culture of rock and roll it lacks the not only that songwriting is a big thing I I think writing songs is completely different animal to writing a solo or or just playing a cover of something or just a 20 second clip it’s it’s entirely different the level of development that goes into songwriting is something else entirely and most people don’t even try um see see that as another social media issue is it’s made everybody’s attention spans very small so they just literally want 10 seconds worth of content before they’re onto the next thing so a whole song it’s hard to mark it a four five minute song when just 10 seconds and they’re onto the next thing you know yeah man yeah I mean what was it radio wouldn’t even play songs above 3 minutes 30 I think uh for quite a while anything aist was was below 3 minutes3 so yeah that limits anyone in Prague they’re screwed do frog was never frog was never mainstream like no to be fair we we don’t write music for the mainstream but our music is mainstream at least in my opinion in a bracket of the yeah like again we keep a very classical structure of our songs basically that’s what it is like intro versus chorus Bridge cuz I like I grew up listening to all the the very big Stadium bands whether that was iron maen Metallica Green Day Queen you know bonji like massive Stadium shs anthems everywhere like and that’s that’s what I’m that’s what I’m going for uh with our music and I think that kind of music might right now be even harder than progue to promote anywhere in the sense of uh I first of all you need the gear as in how am I going to record a snip or whatever you know of here’s my anthemic rock song that I want to play like Arena wall of sound yeah bedroom yeah or you need people to come see shows because that’s the only way like I I can’t can’t uh give you my energy or transfer my energy that kind of energy through a a little you know stupid ass yeah 10 seconds scroller you know exactly exactly I think I think with rock it’s always been the case that the live show should be the selling point um and again I I think it’s still is I mean we’ve we’ve been fortunate enough to play some really really cool gigs lately and for us it’s been just about every now and then just playing a gig for free if it’s if it’s a long way away we you know it’s our first time playing there why should they why should they pay us why should they well we haven’t proved ourselves yet so we’ve done a few shows like that and we’ve made some losses uh financially but then we’ve gained in the interim because we we’ve we’ve actually got some really good fans out of that who have then invited us back to play in these small towns and Villages across uh the southwest and you know we we we found a really costeffective way to do that we we were camping uh in a field for a few of these shows oh wow man we we had a wild one a few months back we did three shows in the space of 24 hours and that was [ __ ] wild that yeah that was really good it was a long day I fing when we left the house my fingertips were gone yeah man that I was ready for bed after that don’t say you made a loss you made negative money money negative 100 pounds with the current market that’s actually a profit yeah no that and I say l only financially because um yeah we spent what an extra 30 40 quid on petrol but other than that we met so many awesome people we did sell some merch actually um we’ve just got some new merch come in that we’ll bring up and show you that’s pretty cool um had some new shirts in and I you guys do shirts don’t you I think have one actually I’ve W it on a few yeah that’s right um yeah soy yes indeed yeah now uh anyone listening out there if you ever down at one of the one of the shows of a band that isn’t that big yet buy their merch man that’s the best thing you can do ex it helps them promote you’re part of the gang you’re in on the joke sort of thing and look that’s where because we don’t make money on shows anymore really like venues very rarely pay a ban to turn up exposure yeah play for exposure man don’t you know that apparently I this is somewhere I heard about that I think it’s even worse in the US apparently sometimes they get Commission on your merch that’s common in the UK too that’s common in the UK too so what you get is a bar deal a merch deal or a booking deal most of the time uh a lot of major venues will take a percentage of your merch yeah well happens I’ll be the guy sending the merch outside the V outside right yeah that’s I think that’s one of the really cool things as well is that a lot of fans quite like to actually meet the bands at the merch table I quite like on the bigger shows to be actually one of the first or second bands on you get to go and hang out at the merch Bo afterwards and actually meet people I think that is the key thing us definitely our level um is just speaking to more and more people and just you know what’s their experience with this concer make sure that they remember it make sure that you know they had a good time if not why not you know can we make it good now you know that’s not an offer um but yeah I it’s it’s and these smaller shows we’ve seen such a hunger four as well like all these different shows we’ve been playing everyone who’s going there is like we just want to hear new music we just want to hear something new you know something fresh something new something in person we want to just socialize and it’s there’s a real scene around it I think the UK’s got a lot more coming yet yeah I think I think um as well like we found this with a lot of shows obviously we sort of obviously go to a lot of shows we play a lot of shows and that and a lot of the time just the idea of Music being there is enough to bring people out from the main venue into the um where the music’s happening you know they’re sort of like oh let’s just go check it out now there something when you talk to people they they are all about it you know we have we’ve met lots of little old people and they absolutely have time in their Liv to music yeah I just want to try it out Linda Linda’s there at the carton horses again you know you know what uh I don’t know about you guys but how you like let’s be let’s be honest the crowd the that you’ve interacted with how many people do you get that are under the age of 30 um we fairly varied to be honest um so it depends what part of the country we’re in if we go up to Devon there’s there’s kind of a bit of an older group there like the motorbike kind of crew in our local area it tends to be um I think it’s early 20s for us mainly but then then there’s like this big gap between like there’s a big gap between 30 and then like 45 there’s no one in between and then you know the other end of the spectrum I think they just like to talk more don’t they the older generation they definitely like always he got some stories to tell as well feel young again you know talking to the band and friends with the band right you know we’ve had some great stories from like people telling us like the shows they’ve gone to in the past and we’re like okay getting a bit of Envy but this is awesome to hear and it is again it’s all conversations that build you know what I realized right like I I I just made this connection I I must have thought about it before but I I just made this connection think about like teenagers okay even people in their very very very early 20s but definitely teenagers they grew up with uh what’s it called um what’s the platform twitch and live YouTube and content in their faces and like that’s scary like a live music like what what what live music you know like what go watch someone play live like like money you know like back in the day we were like ah because bands were like this mysterious beings it was like ah this band you only listen to their songs and that’s all you knew about them like oh my God yeah I need to go see them live because you know it’s live yeah real I think the overexposure of um the private lives of celebrities is a real issue in that sense myque kind of vanishes that’s another reason why I don’t like like I’m an I’m both an introvert and an extrovert like like right now I’m an extrovert with you guys we’re having a blast and everything and and and and when we go live yeah it’s going to be amazing but I just it’s just I feel like it’s it’s kind of like an invasion of privacy I don’t like putting stuff on on for everyone to and like it’s by choice though nobody It Is by choice but I’m like and and and you’re like people do want to they want to know engage yeah like I think that that generation it’s just like our generation growing up with that you know mentality of the the mystery of the of the band and like I don’t ah to be although I do remember going like when N Turn was a thing I was like Googling all the time about Green Day what’s going on with them what’s going on with them you know there real so I think maybe I’m being a bit a bit unfair here but I think the transition like the fact that we did get to experience the mystery and then the internet was introduced to us and and we took the whole process step by step into what the [ __ ] is going on right now I think that What Makes Us appreciate kind of like everything and the U you know what we have what we have and what we had but like yeah for the new people I agree I agree I think what was it YouTube came out what about 2006 or seven or something like that was it I yeah was at the iPhone I can’t remember but before smartphones I think I think we had more fun I I sound like my dad right now see how it happens I’m saying that I think people maybe even a bit old a tad older than us or like people our I think that’s what I said that we’ve experienced the you know like the the whole growth of the transition yeah we we experienced that transition I I think that’s what we’re still saying kind of it does um what we me out a lot as well is the you know the reaction video Trend um yes you think about it like young kids are watching that they and obviously you learn how to react from those around you I I heard a quote it’s like you are basically a sum of your 10 best friends right well these guys are watching these like massive overreactions on YouTube is there going to be a generation of people that actually acts that way do you think or do you think it’s just too disingenuous I I can’t tell Dude I I the only thing that popped in my head right now was someone reacting to like Bohemian raps for the first time ever in your life this is the first time you were like I’m gonna film this because you know my M John told me about this song that’s kind of cool I’m gonna listen to it I’m gonna react you they’re missing out as well if that’s real if that is the first time they’re reacting to it and they’re aware there’s a on them it can’t be fun right like the first time I hear a song I want to be [ __ ] driving down the motorway or I’m going to be on a room in my own in the dark headphones on you know like I also don’t make any faces unless it’s like a proper metal Rift and I’m like I’m like yeah when I heard Machine Head for the first time I’m like you you made me remember reaction videos my I’ve un something yeah I don’t think I made a face first time I heard Bohemian rap city you not my face was yeah you like that you yeah I made my eyes larger and stuff and made it look like I was crying crying [Laughter] yeah remember to thumbnail contrast increase yeah
