Where I am today, did I envisage I would be there? No, I didn’t. I grew up in Hanover and have been living here in Singapore for more than half of my life. So, I don’t necessarily consider myself German anymore. I would say I’m cosmopolitan and international. I cycle to work every morning and sometimes I take a different journey. Just because it changes your mind. That carries over into work life. I never choose the easiest way. And this is why I like friction as well. Friction provides the energy for certain points of view. This is how we move forward. There is a German saying, “Der Weg ist das Ziel”. It’s the journey towards the destination. This is what we try to live every day. You always need to look for different solutions. And that’s equally the truth when I cycle to work. We are in a very fast-growing region which, from a demographic perspective, shows a lot of potential. Singapore is such an exciting marketplace to be in. This is something where we can help our customers to grow into it. Particularly with respect to sustainability products. I won’t be able to do all this by myself. I need a lot of team members who have that regional market knowledge. If you want to set up the bank to be strong and stable for future operations, you need to have that fine balance between stability and flexibility. They are a great combination to bring a company forward. I like to think of DZ BANK as a tree. The roots are where we come from. The trunk is who we are. The branches follow the light. And the sun rises in the east. If you look at the Asian markets, there is so much potential. Singapore itself is an extremely great example of this balance between stability and flexibility. If you look at all the different ethnicities, the different individuals, the different nationalities, these fields of tension provide the energy to be creative, to think about new ideas. Tension is really not a bad thing. This is exactly how you grow.
