Bike mechanic novice in need of some help!
Bought my second-hand Canyon CF SL a few weeks ago (first road bike which I’m absolutely loving), and the headset was a little loose and was rattling on the last ride.
I’ve looked up the spec of the bike, and it’s a 1” 1/4 steerer tube. The top cap currently on the bike is 1” 1/8. As you can see from the pics, the top cap is sitting inside the stem and isn’t applying any downwards pressure on the headset. I’m assuming that’s the issue…
I bought the “correct” top cap from Canyon, and the screw is too small for the wedge that’s currently in the steerer tube.
I’m unsure what to do now. Is the best approach to get the compatible wedge from Canyon and get that fitted to the bike? If so, I can’t see how to get the current wedge out of the bike, but assume it’d be straight-forward enough for a bike shop?
Alternatively, would I be fine just finding a compatible top cap? Latter option seems the cheaper one, but safety is my main priority if I’m honest.
