Milton Keynes Bowl 11/03/2023 3/4 Crit Race – Commentary

today we are doing the Milton ke’s Bowl category 34 Criterion race and straight into the race I clip in I would say I get a good start holding the group’s pace and the aim for today is just to sit in the group save as much energy for the Sprint at the finish one the course for today is the Milton ke’s Bowl so therefore it is an oval shape like liked course and the course does not extend into the car park which it does for the summer series this is because um as it’s as it’s in March uh the conditions are still quite damp very cold possibly a bit of ice as well as this was 9:00 in the morning this means that the course is very easy and not technical whatsoever and therefore um suits my strengths which is sprinting and looking at the front camera we can see someone has attacked straight away now being only 1 minute into the race I’m not worried about this at all because everyone is Super Fresh everyone has great legs at this moment and so therefore I’m just watching I’m just following number 113 up to the front just to see how much of a gap he’s got and But ultimately not sit in the wind and not use up lots of the Gap sitting around 25 to 30 m and that is that is fine I’m not worried about that whatsoever and the big teams in this race are team MK which have four Riders and they are wearing blue skin suits light blue skin suits and the other team is ride Revolution with the white skin suits at the moment my teammate and I also my teammate is my brother as seen in the rear camera with the the dark blue skin suit and the white helmet we are working together ultimately for he will lead me out at the end for the Sprint and if there’s a breakaway he will go on the front and bring the breakway back in order for me to place as high as possible it has been a fairly easy start to the race my heart rate has been anywhere from 165 to 170 beats per minute and considering my heart rate can go up to 205 beats per minute um I would say this suits my strengths as I am saving as much energy as possible and not even going particularly hard at this moment in time the course profile has a slight gradient which we’re currently on and this means that Riders such as team ride Revolution as seen in the front camera in the white skin suit has just attack slightly increasing the pace and seeing in my power Spike up to 650 Watts that is noticeable however the gradients are only max out at 3 to 4% meaning that it is not really steep enough to drop anyone consistently as this is a such a fast and flat course I was very aware of my body positioning on the bike because we are averaging 40K an hour rough around the the whole course for 45 minutes um I was tucking up low on my handlebars on the hoods uh bent my elbows slightly and sort of like rolling in my shoulders to curl up and this is again to reduce um the uh basically reduce the drag and so I don’t put out as many watts as the other Riders and this gives me an advantage especially when on the downhills and sitting on the flats again at 40 km an hour this can save me anywhere between 30 and 50 Watts we can just see the Breakaway Rider have just been pulled back on the left hand side of the screen on the front camera and that was down to team mk’s sorry team ride revolution’s job so clearly they’re working together for a Sprint at the Finish or perhaps a late attack at the end with this race being at 9:00 in the morning I’m taking the corners very easy even though they’re not particularly steep I did experience some uh wheel slip on the second to last Corner before the Sprint again we can see an attack on the left hand side from Team rotor racing that’s made me surge up to 730 Watts which again talking about matches in this race matches is a term used for energy and each time you burn a match you effectively lose a bit of energy for the final Sprint in the race so doing 750 740 Watts there has just burned a match and you have so many matches in the whole race and what it it was quite a smart move by root at racing cuz look how far the group is stretched out so perhaps um my brother and I could have moved up and helped him a lot to cut out perhaps some of the slur Riders at the back maybe split the group in half on the second incline of the of the slight gradient up towards the finish line and you can just see that this is the slight headwind section here because I was doing around 400 watts and people are sitting up now because they don’t want to work and now you can see team Lee Valley just coming through to the front screen just counterattacks uses that momentum which we had at around 43k hour and just attacks with a two up up the incline which is a very smart move because he has effectively just used that free speed as everyone slowed down now I’m not really happy with this move because I know that those two could possibly get away which is where I do 1200 watts to catch back up to them at the front one Rider goes with me behind and again this is using a couple of matches because it takes a lot of effort to catch back up now what I did wrong here is I sit on the back of Team Lee Valley whereas look behind me I’ve got a gap in the rear camera for about 20 M I should have counterattacked with the man who went with me and we could have established a solid Gap there which could have been uh race defining again he makes 20 M off the front at this point which is where if I worked with him we could have got a solid Gap perhaps St piran in front of us wouldn’t have chased it again you can see we’re doing about 54 km per hour which is very fast along this course around 35 M hour and you see we come to the headwind section no one really wants to work in the wind so we just sit up the group swells again and it’s back to sitting up and not much racing again uses the momentum counterattacks it up the hill uses momentum from the headwind counterattacks up the hill and you can see the other person who was just in the Breakaway drops off and now we’ve got a solo Rider again as a solo Rider at this point in the race I’m not too worried because unless they’re a TT Champion they’re not really going to St away because the amount of power needed and there’s still around 45 minutes left in this race it takes a phenomenal amount of power and people don’t really have that in a category 34 maybe in a an elite 123 race but not in a category 3 4 again you can just see in my rear view camera people just decide not to sit on my wheel I wasn’t really going particularly hard but again if I wanted to I could have used that Gap from because they don’t have the draft I could use that Gap to really just accelerate perhaps catch the person in front which maybe was a could have been another mistake again we can just see ride Revolution taking it up he was the man who caught the first break and he goes to work catching the other person off the front working for one of their Riders again ride revolution attack maybe giving one of their Riders the best chance possible to make it up to the other Rider now this is quite a threatening move to be honest because team ride Revolution have the most numbers in the race which um which allows their whole team to sit up once they got one rider in the break this is why rot to racing Chase and it forces everyone else to chase because team Revolution really are one of the biggest teams and one of the biggest competitions within this race so if they get one rider in the Breakaway they’re not chasing the whole race and that puts real pressure on individuals and small teams like myself my my other teammate also my brother again my brother’s really just sitting in he’s towards the back he’s sort of watching the group he’s saving energy I’m sort of just sitting up front having a watch seeing what what’s happening again nothing’s really happening in terms of race defining at this point I would say so he’s sort of sitting in Saving his energy um and so he’ll be leading me out and catching any real defining breaks when when when they go again ride ution of just being caught there so the pace has gone back to being quite regular again there’s one problem with attacking on this like gradient of around 3 to 4% it’s that everyone’s really expecting the attacks here which is why I think they’re not not great because if if everyone’s watching for the attacks then everyone’s going to know when they’ve gone everyone’s going to chase whereas I think if you attack over the top of the hill so attack just on by the Finish Line use that momentum to take it onto the downhill I think that’s where you would really try and split the group because people would be caught unaware and unnoticed and I think that for future that’s where I would have attacked especially where I got that small Gap behind on about the first 10 minutes of the race again I just seem to fall to the back of the group here there’s no one in the Breakaway nothing’s really happening the course isn’t very technical so I just sort of I’m not sitting right at the back I’m sort of just sitting mid pack again just watching up front seeing if anything’s happening there’s just one Rider maybe just hanging 10 m off the front and it’s not really dangerous whatsoever for again there’s just a slight surge over the top especially sitting at the back of the group it seems to be more um consistent with the power so you so you’re not surging as much you’re not hitting those higher Peak power numbers you’re sort of just gently increasing the power to keep up with the pace which is definitely easier to be honest to pour a rider in my sort of power profile and it’s much more consistent you can carry on doing it throughout the whole race again you can just hear my brother and I also my teammate just having a chat um we were just discussing about he said there was just one teammate one sorry one person in the Breakaway whereas I said there wasn’t because also I thought I think he thought that there was still one person up front because he’d been at the back and hadn’t seen that they’d been caught um but again we were just discussing where should attack and also where where was the um how far like to go should we attack from the Finish Line we didn’t really come to a conclusion he said if the attack doesn’t work he’ll use the rest of his energy to leave me out which was very kind of him because it almost sacrifices his race but for the best result between us that would be the best thing for us again you can just see me just sitting right at the back here taking it super easy nothing really happening very much the race has almost come to a stand still in terms of people aren’t really going to attack nothing nothing’s happening too much again you can see that the race is easy because my heart ratees come down to 155 B per minute and also my power’s massively reduced you see these small spikes in the back and that’s because of the differing power um when people search however it’s definitely a lot easier when coasting at 40 kmet per hour again one mistake we did make in this race is that my teammate and I were both sitting at the back you can just see my teammate on the front camera just on the Left Behind in front of 120 and the mistake we made is that we always needed someone either myself or my teammate at the front in terms of sitting in the top 10th wheel sitting in the top fifth wheel somewhere where we can respond to those those attacks whereas back here if an attack did go that was powerful enough to split the group we would have been both both on the wrong side which was again a crucial part for the whole race on the front screen if you look on the right you see the man wearing the purple yellow and white striped Jersey I was keeping a very close eye on him because he won last week with a breakaway move U about halfway through the race so I was keeping a keen eye on him watching for his attacks because I know that he can solo away and I know that he is quite a strong Rider so he is someone that I was constantly watching in terms of um following his moves seeing where he was seeing if he was in the group and if you look in the rear camera the pace isn’t easy because you can see someone just gets dropped now my heart rate is at 177 beats per minute and that shows that people do like to Surge up these Hills and again when you when you attack up the hill the reason you attack up the hill is because gravity makes it harder for the heavier Riders to respond now when you attack up the hill you you put yourself into the wind which makes you which effectively uh you’re doing more power to sustain the speed but also because you’re going uphill you make other people people work almost just as hard in terms of to keep the speed high uh and to catch back up to you and you can see just from that small attack the group at the front is just a little bit stretched out and um again that’s that’s going to they’re going to be working very hard at the front and because I’m because I’m in the group at the back I’m sort of just keeping everything very smooth with my teammate we’re really saving everything for the last um for the last Sprint for for the one thing the the one disadvantage when sitting at the back is that if you just heard there I just had to apply my brakes very slightly into that corner which because um you’re using your momentum and not getting very much uh of a headwind because of the group giving you a fantastic draft you do have to apply brakes into Corners which again on a wet day luckily this is not a wet day as the sun’s out and it’s quite nice temperature um you your front wheel could slide out which is quite dangerous and that is always something to watch out and you can see just off the front someone just attacks I’m not again I’m not worried because these attacks are just one person another person and so it’s nothing to be worried about especially especially in this big group again it’s such an easy the reason I don’t the reason I just sit at the back and chill is because it’s such an easy course and you really don’t have to worry about these attacks unless they’re five 10 people then you then alarm Bells will be ringing but again we’re only we’re only 20 minutes into this race we still got another half an hour of effectively and people are still going to be people are still going to have an abundance of energy to chase these moves back but again my brother should have been at the front or I should have been at the front again that was a lack of communication that we both had for reference my brother is in the rear camera with the black and gray track white hel blue skin again in this headwind section you can just see my rear view camera that someone falls off the back now because he’s about 10 m back his draft is not going to be great which means that he’s going to be putting out 500 600 watts to catch back on and especially someone’s now just attacked off the front we’re chasing the Breakaway we’re we’re pushing very hard at the back here and he’s got no draft so to be honest he’s really got no chance to catch back on unless he puts in a major dig which is going to burn lots of matches for him again you can just see the guy in the blue skin suit just struggling a bit behind again that other person at the back’s been dropped he’s his his race is done which just shows the power when it comes to the surges off the front and the heavier Riders who tend to fall to the back because of this race is only about 50 minutes long fueling was debatable between me and my teammate because my teammate went for a bottle of juice which contained high amounts of sugar for uh energy whereas I went for a gel now because it’s race is only 50 minutes long it’s it’s a fine it’s a fine line between having too much water which would weigh you down on the Hills possibly causing you to be dropped or doing more power than you should do however having a gel in your back pocket is tough when you’ve got gloves on because it’s hard to open and especially trying to eat a gel while you’re uh breathing hard is is extremely hard work and if someone attacks then you’re effectively you there’s not really much you can do rather than just you just have to effectively eat it so fueling strategies were were debatable but however because this race was only 50 minutes long both systems seemed to work for my teammate and I again these attacks really showed who were the stronger Riders and who were the weaker ones because you just look at the back there two people have been dropped it’s a bit stringy at the back people are lining out my teammate and I we are one of the stronger ones so we’re sort of just controlling the rear because again we would know if someone was up the front because uh we can see we’re taller than the GoPro so we can see um above other people’s heads and so again if anything race defining goes he uh my my teammate and I will go straight to the front and attack again up over the hill at the top of the hill where people are less expecting it where we’ll make up the most ground again number 135 for team Ry revolution in the white skin suit I’ve raced with him previously and I tend not to sit behind him because when he gets out the saddle um to effectively Sprint and climb he pushes his bike back which when your wheel when your front wheel is very close to his back wheel it is very dangerous because if you catch your front wheel with his back whe you’re coming off instantaneously because your whole bike will just rotate underneath underneath you and so that’s why I always since the first race I took with him I almost came off and that would have been you know race ending so ever since then uh well fortunately that didn’t happen but ever since then I’ve tried to stay away from him stay off his wheel for as much as possible because I know how how dangerous that can be and again especially for the hill we were doing it was only about 3 4% so unless there was an attack where you needed to Surge up to 800 900 watts sitting in the saddle spinning at 90 RPM doing 400 watts was more than sustainable for myself and many other people seen in the race again I just seem to end up on number 1 35’s wheel and I try just to sit off to the side cuz I know again there it’s just out the saddle surges forces me to get out the saddle and surge as well and he just keeps it really uneven which that sort of uneven Pace wears you out fairly quickly and so that’s why that’s why you just try and go at your own Tempo while still staying in the same while still staying in The Paton again you can just see two people off the front here however they’re going into the headwind section which is where the group swells and which is where it’s a massive disadvantage for just the smaller numbers because they’re going to be have to they’re going to have to put out way more power than the large group of the Pon which is usually where most groups get caught if they attack over the hill they get caught and then get caught on the next lap onto the headwind section again I just seem to be moving up to the front here I think I’d effectively got a bit bored of sitting at the back because as it’s coming into the later stages of the race I know that more race defining moves are going to be going and stronger people are going to be attacking at this point because the weaker Riders have been either dropped or they’re sitting towards the back where they’re struggling ever so slightly so again we see rotor racing just attack here on the left again I’m sort of just following the brrt bib shorts and sort of just holding his Pace I know that again one Rider isn’t isn’t going to make it away at this point especially with the how fresh I am uh myself and my teammate are and especially I know that others um have a similar ability to myself and so we’re effectively going to be at similar points of fatigue which is at the moment still very low again you can just see it lining out into the headwind section again especially as we’re going 52 km per hour I was just remembering just to keep my arms low keeping my body position low head down tucked in into my sort of Arrow position as such saving me wats for the final Sprint where it really matters again you can see that we’ve got a good lead out coming into this they’re forcing me to do quite a bit of power 530 Watts 400 watts Etc and again it shows that people are wanting to get on with this race they’re wanting to attack they’re wanting to really split and hurt this group especially being in March uh March tends to still be sort of the off Seasons like you know coming into the classics but these are for pro races so in terms of amateur races such as this um I still don’t think people’s people’s Fitness is as high as it possibly usually is compared to like June or July where the Race season really is at its peak for amateur racing again equipment was an interesting issue today because even though it’s a winter Criterium three Category 3 for race I chose to use my um race bike which was my custom giant defi with specialized cockpit uh 2022 version and um deep section 50 mm Carbon wheels and even though these Carbon wheels are because of the weather was um supposed to be 50% chance of rain I wasn’t sure whether to put aluminium rims on which would have um increased my breaking power and increased the grip as my tires have more grip on the corners because they’re winter tires whereas I chose race performance which uh have lower rolling resistance which offer faster they deep section Carbon wheels which are more Arrow however the tire is less grip so if it had rained fortunately it had not um I would have um been more prone to falling off sliding out Etc around the corners where we’re going 50 km per hour so again the correct decision was made just looking at the front of the screen you can see the Lee Valley youth Cycling Club in the green um Jersey in front of me fortunately they didn’t turn up in force today because they usually turn up with five or six Riders who um are very very strong and so luckily because last week I raced with them and they were constantly counterattacking off the front which again forced my teammate and I to use lots of power and effectively get worn down for the Sprint which is where I came third uh in the final race but I won the Sprint however they managed to get two of their riders in the Breakaway where I did not have the power um to close the minute gap which they had establish when I was boxed in on the clim but again I seem to be more on the left side of this climb where I was U Less boxed in and I was more open to chasing these attack down and effectively being being clear of getting boxed in on this section the wind is coming from North Northeast so therefore you sort of to get the most shelter you sort of wanted to be on the left hand side but still be at the front but on the left hand side that is where you had the greatest draft and that’s where I tended to be for the most part of that headwind section again you can just see in the rear view camera that two Lead Valley teammates just having a chat perhaps ready to launch another attack and I was just being aware of what they were doing because I know that they’re both very two very strong Riders having race with them previously yeah we can just see one of the uh youth Valley teammates Lee Valley sorry just moving up to the front which I was just Sly aware of just sitting in I was just sitting in know 20th wheel again I didn’t know what have planned to be honest but I knew that something was going to attack especially as the other teammate was just sitting on my rear wheel that usually indicates that one of them was going for an attack while the other one follows the group and then as soon as he gets caught back the other one counterattacks and that Counterattack usually snaps the group so again you can just see here that the pace heightens lifts a bit you know people are just slightly getting out the saddle but that wasn’t the attack back from the Le valy team and also one thing to be aware of in this cat 3 for Grace is that category 4 is um for effectively Riders who are still in the lower categories which which means that Riders are less in Riders are less experienced which offers greater amounts of crashing which is where again being a cat 4 Rider myself here um I didn’t know that sitting at the back usually meant that there’s you’re more prone to crashing as if a rider crashes in the middle of the group then people are going to get piled upon um which that was something to improve next time for my brother and I in terms of strategy using tactics maybe just sit constantly 15th wheel again that would have offered more chance for us to attack or more chances to Chase moves even though I know that these big teams and these individual Riders were uh very motivated even though this was such a such an easy course in terms of technical ability now you can just see me moving up on the left hand side here again the race is coming into the last 15 minutes so I know that I need to just be sitting up in the top 20 here constantly watching because 20 minutes is very sustainable for one of these Lee valy youth club riders or one of the um ride Revolution Riders who have got a great team for backing again my teammate is just following me just sitting on my wheel he’s again coming up to the front to give me a hand if anyone attacks cuz he’ll be primarily the one who chases again my teammate’s been very silent in this race at the moment and that’s primar primarily down to him just wanting to conserve as much energy for the Finish where he will be hitting the wind he will be the one who’s leading me out that was the tactic for me to win the race however if he finds himself in another situation where he’s on the other side of the road he will again go for the Sprint himself if if I’m not in good positioning or if we’re not effectively working together as well as we should have done again you can just see rot to bracing just slightly accelerate there just to get on the wheel and that had me worried because I know that he is a rider that can solo away I know that I’m I’m watching him very closely he’s number 109 and again that is the rider who won a couple of weeks back and he soloed to Victory by himself so I am extremely aware of this Rider this is where I don’t really give up any positioning I’m still very near the front and again I’m just following Pace doing 430 Watts which is uh a lot of power and I I need to constantly be aware of this Rider even if it forces me and my teammate to chase again my teammate is saving because the finale the final lap uh uses lots of energy again you can just see at the front there he just gets two Riders by himself it’s coming into the headwind section now where you really want to be sitting in the wheels and that’s where you’ll BR be bringing most amount of distance back again you can just see two Riders up the front one’s chasing and then it’s the main group and I wear and I and I think this is where most of the Gap was brought back where people attacked on this hill where people really put in the power again you can see my heart rate jumps up to 180 um 500 watts there 90 RPM we were really going for this we were not letting this go because this if you let this go that’s that’s that’s the race over you’re Racing for third place from there again you can just see my rear camera how hard this race is you could just see one of the ride Revolution just bobbing up and down really showing you know you can see him Breathing heavily Etc and I and he was their lead Sprinter the one sitting directly behind me that was the rider the whole team was working for again the brak’s been caught um I’m just sitting in you know 10th wheel seeing if any counter moves go this is the perfect opportunity as people are slowing down but fortunately nothing goes and that allows that allows other people to have a rest but to be honest if anything did go and there was no response that would have favored myself because I was still relatively fresh compared to I know other people were breathing hard from the power they were putting out again this group has been massively reduced if you look in the rear view camera there’s the group’s probably around 15 people in total have been dropped which just shows how the pace has ramped up over the course of the race and you can just see I just get uh smashed into the grass here by the dhb rider and that that could have been fatal cuz I could have crashed there and the reason this happened was because um I try to go up on the inside and what happens from there is that he gets effectively gets pushed into me and what I should have done is I should have either just kept which is I should have just kept my line through the grass which is what which is what I did do or I should have held my positioning and uh forced him back into the group however that could have caused a crash which would have not been good because I could have been involved in it and also um forcing other people to crash is never a good thing however it is part of the sport it wasn’t on purpose Etc so maybe in future terms if we were going faster at 50 km per hour for example I may have not been able to uh hold up the bike in the grass especially as it’s very bumpy very slippy Etc so that probably would have been the new course of action to really sort of just use my weight to stay on the road and the tarmac where the safety is again it was just that Rider number 114 who just pushed me into the grass there and I’ve never had that done before so that I didn’t really know what to respond to but next time I know how to respond to that again I just find myself on the inside here and that really again if someone attacks now there’s nothing I can do because I’m right on the inside I’m boxed in and there’s nowhere to go now I’m on the back I could go around the outside but by the time I’ve got up and around the side of the group there would have been they the breakway would have been longer I think again you can just hear me chatting with my teammate we’re just talking um about what we’re going to do coming into the last 8 minutes or so 7 minutes from now and he’s again just sitting off the back saving as much energy this really this is what we were saying about this is really where we need to be up at the front because people are going to be effectively attacking people are going to be going for it now and this is where you know the group stretched out here as seen in the front camera this is where we need to move up and be sitting in top 10th wheel and that is one mistake we made however we did make up for that by moving up again you can just see my teammate just sitting in the wind here he’s not pedling at the moment but you can tell that he needs to be coming up with me you can just see me trying to get on the inside here just moving around on the outside and getting a better positioning my teammate just sits on my wheel coming with me and this is really where I just get on the outside and just follow the wheels yeah we’re putting out a lot of power 700 Watts someone’s clearly attacked off the front people are following it and this is where I just Ed the draft of the red person just to really just come around the outside this is where my teammate should have followed me and then therefore both of us would have been at the front however it doesn’t always happen now that gap’s closed on the left hand side where I was and you can’t get up to the front however there will be opportunities but it’s good that I’ve got up to the front because now I can really um catch up to anyone who’s off the front or who’s attacking for example and I can respond to those attacks again you can see my heart rate slowly increased throughout this race it was just up to 175 at the top of that hill and that’s showing how people are really giving it they’re all on the last couple of laps again just as F attack goes it’s forces me to do 600 wats on the hill but because it goes on the hill nothing really has taken anyone by surprise there has been no defining attacks here come on because everyone is so aware of what’s what’s going to happen effectively yeah you could just hear me there just say oh come on showing how people have just break and then surged again and that is almost caused a crash which again being at the back of a pelaton should I have I really should expect that especially as this is a cat 34 race and it’s early on the season where people are still trying to get early points British cycling points to cat up into Cat 2 Cat four from cat 3 Etc and again that is the downside of sitting at the back of the group and getting the most draft whereas if you sit top 10 you’re not getting as quite as much draft but again people are going to be more experienced people are going to know what exactly what they’re doing at the front because they’ve got more power because they’ probably have slightly more race experience again you can see the race is really sort of ramping up 53 km per hour people are there’s a slight Gap there I’m slightly worried by that I really just need to however it’s too fast to really come on the outside and Sprint that would just be a waste of energy so therefore I just sit in behind ride Revolution I just need to make up a few Wheels here just to really sort of be comfortable with where I’m sort of sitting in the race so therefore because that group because people are attacking now again Lee valy goes I’m going to use his wheel that would be a good wheel though but unfortunately you just see someone just blocking me on the left ride Revolution again look you see loads of people up front they they’ve effectively split the race so you got the strong Riders the weak Riders the weak Riders are the ones really left behind here but unfortunately they’ve they haven’t kept pedaling and the the group swells again which is not very good for someone like me who um can handle these huge power moments where you acquire lots of power and then I can still go and win the Sprint whereas if you’ve got slow people not slow but people who have less power for the hills people who have less sort of like consistent power which they can hold throughout the race um but they may have a massive Sprint power which could win them the race um in the end so again the race has just eased up here you can see the speed’s gone down 38 39 km per hour and it’s been a RAR again someone’s used momentum in the left hand side they’ve attacked this is where we have to follow my teammate and I sort of just sitting at the back this group has been massively reduced there’s only about 20 people left in it um that one rid is off the front I move up because this is a very dangerous move there’s only what four laps two laps something like that to go probably like one lap from now and I’m not I’m not attacking because I don’t want to pull anyone back to him but I’m just holding this Gap you can see I’m just doing 500 550 watts and you can still see him in the in the front camera and we’re going to hold that Gap that was my aim my teammate should have been up here he gets boxed he can’t he can’t get really he can’t come from the middle of the group to the front because there’s no space to get around and this is where someone on the right hand side comes through increases the pace to catch that person up you can just see them at the front there at the camera in the front camera and I just want to sit on um BR RT’s wheel and that is what I do I get a nice sort of lead out here not not a lead out but a nice sort of sitting second wheel up high the race and that’s where I want to be to win and again this is where my brother should have been coming around to offer a hand to really pull me back to the guy at the front getting you can see him he’s about 30 m in front 40 m so it’s not a large gap especially as we come to the hill which is uphill but brrt is sort of finished on the front he’s he’s gone all in he’s got nothing left forces his me to try and do some work however luckily someone comes in with a a great lead out wearing the the bib shorts he’s forcing me to do I don’t know 500 watts behind him which is a great lead up you can see the group gets really stretched people are sprinting I have the perfect lead out we’re going 57 km hour we catch this Breakaway man with ease he um effectively gets tired and then I come around with the Sprint now when he gets done now you can see me I’m putting out a, 1,100 Watts nobody can come around me um I time my Sprint to Perfection I celebrate for the finish line and I’m very happy with the result however couple of things to improve on was positioning throughout the whole race I spent I spent slightly too much time at the back of the race um meaning that if a race defining move went and I was boxed in at the back and couldn’t get round then there would have been nothing I could have done the second thing I could have done was had slightly better communication with my teammate so if I was at the back for example he should have been at the front so if there was a breakaway then he should have gone uh with the Breakaway however we we found ourselves at the back sometimes which wasn’t great um however I was happy with how it played in the end I was happy with um the situation I was happy with the win for example and um my teammate and I worked well together however um it was a shame for to not get that lead out from my teammate who uh was boxed in at the back and couldn’t make it back round and yes I was happy to take first place in the race and on the final note I was also happy uh with my body positioning am I um in terms of um not taking too much turn in the wind I race smartly and um I was constantly aware of who was in the break and I was constantly aware of what type of rider was in the break for example uh I knew Riders who I’d raced with before and um I knew how strong they were when they won previous weeks uh where they’d dropped lots of people and tried to go solo and that is what I think really separated me from the other riders in the race was knowing how good other people are and when to attack on this course even though this course was the most simple technical course you’ll ever have um it still required an insane amount of tactics um in order to win and in order to position highly in the race
