hello good morning and welcome to a new video and today I am at Sutton Warf now it’s a bit of a special anniversary for my mt10 it’s very nearly 8 years old 34,1 45 miles W sorry if it’s going to be a bit windy it’s a really wind wind the day out today now there is a big reason I’ve still got this bike and it’s because it’s such an exciting bike to ride I absolutely love the way this bike goes me for th000 cc machine it just it really handles well I like these uh mitchellan Road Six Tires that are on it they do everything handle the wet and they’re really sticky in the dry as well a great handling machine and I’m comfortable on it I’m a big guy I’m uh 6’3 and I’m all day comfortable on this bike we Bridge you think it’ll te a 19 Stone bloke on an [Music] mt10 now it’s uh May 2024 at the moment and I bought this way back in June 2016 and I bought it from Arnold Yamaha in Burton on Trent for the princely sum of 99,900 I think it was 90 which I thought was an absolute bargain at the time and I still think was a bargain that was cheap for this bike and I’ve continued to use Arnolds over the years they’ve serviced it annually and it’s booked in there again in a another week to get it ready for when we head over to the Pyrenees it’s not very often I’m off the leash without uh Carol with me so I uh I need to be a little bit careful because I’ve got this tendency to to be a bit Larry occasionally on my own and that’s why I really have uh chosen to follow Carol she’s calmed me down over the years we’ll see right similar color to my wheels you know the best thing about this bike it’s it’s the adrenaline rof riding it it is so fast accelerate so hard who now the thing about this bike it’s uh quite a short wheelbase and it’s uh it’s got the tendency to wheelie and wheelie a lot and that’s what the fame is for really oo CU I didn’t meet him the quick shifter on this bike uh was an optional extra when I bought it I think every bike after 2016 had them fitted anyway well this is just the Yamaha quick shifter just goes up no blipper down flippers weren’t a thing when I bought this really I’ve not even deced this bike I’d say uh a good 75% of of everybody that buys an mt10 decats them put a low exhaust on not for me I’m afraid I love the sound but my teners can’t cope with it another reason uh I haven’t got allowed exhaust is because we ride abroad a lot and uh I don’t particularly want to attract the attention of uh foreign law enforcement not had it Dino I’ve not had the exhaust done uh I’ve had more touring oriented things done there a satinav and powered saav hold a g in there of got the S SW motch tank bag here I’ve got a g carrier and box on the back and uh that’s going to change soon because we’ve got some Shad luggage ordered and uh we’re just waiting on Shad UK to uh to deliver them for us looking forward to having those on the back which makes touring a little bit more secure on this bike now I know I’m going to Temp fate here when I say this but the reason I’m hanging onto this bike and the reason I love this bike is it’s been super super reliable all I do is keep putting tires on it keep getting it service make sure the oil’s changed everything’s done to the specifications and uh so far so good I have considered the new mt10 the new well slightly different shape isn’t it it’s still basically the same uh crossplane 1000cc engine I’m not sure I like the looks I don’t really like the looks of the front end of this bike it’s too insectoid and but I think I dislike the new one even more so it’s just it’s just not doing it for me and why why change I think Arnold made a a lowball offer when I inquired probably a year and a half ago I think we offered like five grand or something for this which I wasn’t interested in really and uh why change a perfectly good bike why another thing I like about this bike is it’s a uh it’s his ability to overtake another thing I really like about a super naked bike is yes it’s really fast really fast but being a Naked Bike you’ve got no protection really and that no protection it restricts how long you can go at really fast speeds and it’s another thing that maybe help you keep your license I mean a super bike tucked in 150 160 m hour you know you got it’s it’s it’s jail speed isn’t it whereas this is so much fun sort of from yeah from zero to zero to 100 really it is an absolute animal it’s there’s no other bik like it well none that I’ve ridden anyway excitement fun reliability what more do you want I think the thing that would convince you to buy one of these is’s actually getting out and riding one I wasn’t convinced at all when I first saw it first saw it in the November stroke December of 2015 was a surprise offering at the yamaho stand at the NEC and I really wasn’t sure then but then I took one out once folks started raving about it and uh that was it once you ridden it you’ve uh you’ve got to have one believe it or not when I bought it I had no idea the fuel consumption was going to be so bad no idea I think it’s marginally better than when I bought it mainly because the engine’s got some miles on it completely running but I think when I looked this morning the average fuel consumption was still 39 MPG and that’s follow following Caroll around at a very sedate Pace you can get that down if you want and that is really its biggest downside it’s fuel consumption fuel consumption and only 17 L tank if you’re really on it hammering it around the Lanes on the brakes a lot you can empty completely empty that 17 L tank in under 100 miles normal ride in uh you’ll probably get 110 if you’re on a Mota to constant 70 or 80 you’ll probably get about 130 140 mil to the tank so yeah when we are on tour we do plan our tour stops quite carefully but it hasn’t stopped us visiting lots of fantastic places on this on this bike and non caroll’s street triple we rode all the way down to carass near the Pyrenees right the way through France before uh we’ve done the Alps uh we’re heading back to the Pyrenees this year to Scotland you can do big miles if you can be bothered to stop it in enough filling stations I think the biggest miles I’ve done on this are probably around about 500 miles and that was getting all the way up uh towards the top of Scotland in a day and it was a really really wet day though I think we just wanted to get there and the only other downside of a naked bike obviously when the weather’s really bad well you just get all the weather at you but the plus side is mainly we riding in hot countries and when we were in the uh the Alps last summer it was over 40° and boy I was glad I hadn’t got a screen I don’t understand these people that put these huge screens on the bikes and then you’re absolutely sweltering can’t get the Breeze by you anyway shall we uh find somewhere to pull in and I’ll take you walk around the bike show you how it’s fairing over these years what’s looking good still what’s maybe not looking quite as good this is what she looks like after8 years who really thinks it’s a good idea to have yellow wheels believe you me those yellow wheels were perfectly clean before I set off today we’ve got quite a few Stone chips you can probably see on the uh stanions there the uprights there’s one of two Stone chips on the front here down here obviously I’ve kept the cat you little paint peel in there pain paint chips and and bits just coming off there but overall she still looks pretty damn good to me I’ve still got the original tail on it and there’s a tiny bit of rust on the on the hanger there but nothing much paint on the tank still looks pretty good nothing’s degraded there nothing’s really rubbed off it’s pretty thick tough paint although I don’t ride it much in the winter but it does get ridden in the wet yeah front wheels have got Stone chips and the odd Mark but they’ve been on on and off a few times you know forgotten how many Tire changes it’s had the other must on this bike is uh see I can get it better outside is a radiator guards and oil cooler guards I wouldn’t go anywhere without those on lots of people swear by the guards over the Lights I’ve gone 8 years and 30 3 4,000 Mi and I haven’t broken a headlight yet but I am tempted fate another not very good thing on these uh these bikes is the mirrors themselves the uh the arms are too short you can’t really see by your elbows but again I’ve never found them that bad I felt the need to change them plenty of people put extensions on them change the bar ends I’ve not bothered it’s still pretty standard but one of the things that does really annoy me and I I like keys I’m not a fan of keyless bikes but getting the key in and out especially if you carry any of the keys on your fob past the clutch cable the clutch cable goes right over the top of it I think this is just in a stupid place there we go 34,1 180 now obviously this older bike’s got the old screen on newer bikes have got a full color it’s all fancier with more things you can do in the menu the menu is fairly basic on this I think there’s two or three different levels of traction control and quite a few people complain that the seat’s not comfortable but and rocks around fix that several times I’ll give up now but it’s a fairly poor design by Yamaha all it is the rubbers underneath crushed down and uh it’s still fastened on but it just rocks It’s seems like it’s loose but it’s uh it’s still fixed to the bite but the thing I do like about it is the width of the the seat that is all day comfortable no matter what anybody else will tell you some people will say it’s thin and uh you can have the Comfort seat which gives it uh probably another CM 2 cm higher so it gives you a little bit more leg room and some say it’s more comfortable but uh I’ve never felt the need for the comfort seat on it that’s the amaha quick Shifty down there that’s worked faultlessly since uh the day it was Ed no other real issues on this bike do like the road Six Tires on it probably stick with those tires now the engine itself it’s not used any oil in between changes not had to top it up at all I have had different pads put in by Yamaha at the service pads seem pretty good for me plenty of braking some people say the brake feel a bit wooden but uh again depends whether you’re a a racer who’s used to something pulling it up with two fingers there plenty of braking for me I don’t need it to be any more Fierce back brake works fine it’s just been a really really great Dependable exciting bike and uh I can’t see any reason to change it will I be doing a 10-year review on it might be anyway should you buy one of these bikes well of course you should everybody deserves a bit of excitement in the lives don’t they I’m going to keep this bike and I’m going to keep riding it I’m going to pull up with the fuel consumption and I’m going to enjoy it anyway thanks very much for watching and uh we’ll catch you again on the next video bye-bye

Thanks Richard 👍
Had mine for a year and I love It one of the best bike's I have had and have had quite a few nothing is as fun for me
Well, Saturday dawns and there's some blue Sky here in sunny Worcestershire and I can't disagree with anything you've said about the MT10. My 2018 bike was £10500 with 1 mile on the clock and handguards, rad. shield, comfort seat and the small screen. I am still utterly besotted by mine and the thing that still 'gets' to me, apart from the excellent handling and the sheer grunt of that engine is, that fabulous sound, which we got lots of on this great vid.. I think you can grow to love the looks of a bike to an extent but once you're riding it, you can't see that. However, the feel and the sound(I always wear earplugs to stop tinnitus, but you don't lose that sound), it just totally takes you over. You are right to keep your bike as having ridden the new version, they have lost the magic of that sound. Great Vid. yet again Rich.
Could never tire of the awesome soundtrack from the bike.
It’s the bond, the places you’ve been and seen together.
A little too fast and with a face only a Mother could love, for me 😉
I bought a Street Triple R after seeing your review of Carol’s, it was the sound when the KTM outgrunted you 🎶👌🏻
Thoroughly enjoyable and informative review 👍, im off for a scroll through Autotrader, Yamaha MT10 section
I have a 2017 MT10sp it's my 19th yamaha absolutely love the bike. I think Yamaha are at the top of the tree now for build quality reliability and have been for a long long time. I also have in.my Garage a 1994 YZF 750R and a 2004 R1.
I've never ridden one but I love the MT10, and I think those colours you have are the best with the later white and red coming a close 2nd.
I like the new bike too, it's a beastly looking machine but I don't think I could afford mid 30's mpg. My KTM 1290 will display 68mpg when riding like a fairly and averages mid 50's. But the MT10 sound tugs at my heart strings everytime I hear it. I want that sound
🎵🎶😍🥰❤️💕
Hi, bought mine in October 2017 brand new,I have had many many bikes in the past,350lc crashed loved it,350 power valve crashed loved it,500lc tried to kill me several times so i sold it,got into gsxr territory i guess you are getting the picture by now, blades ,R1 ZX10 blah blah,But and its a BIG butt i have never had as much love for a bike as i have for my MT,Never sell it,it is very honest very fast and very beautiful, i will say no more.Great vid as always very honest.
best road bike i have ever owned, fun factor 10. if you want a new one get one this year next year they will come with computer that stops your bike if emisions are not right. all bikes next year are going to be a pain in the arse to own.
nice review Richard . the bike is a credit to you and Yamaha . our Chris ,my son had one around tha same time . I took it for its 1st year service for him as he was in hospital having chemotherapy for lymphoma . it was the most exiting bike i have ever ridden . you need to be very sparing with the throttle .by the time i got back home i had got used to it . i will never forget it .
it sure is one of the best bikes I've ridden for sure… Deadly though. Scary fun =P
Glad you are still enjoying it. Just a few points, if you swap the mirrors out for the ones on the Tracer 7 you can actually see behind you! You are only averaging 4000 miles a year despite foreign touring but I guess that has been because you often use your van to get the bikes there? Don't try the new MT10 because you will want one, it's so much better in every way, even the fuel consumption is better however they still missed a trick by not giving it a 20 litre tank!
Had my 2016 MT 10 a few months now and I can honestly say it is a belter. Agree about the key position so annoying! But that sound from my Scorpion end can never gets old. Only weird thing mine does is smell of oil from time to time after some blasts, was wondering if its just a header breather? but cant see a oil leak? Weird.
The MT10 is still in my top 5 of bikes I want to buy, a large chunk of that is honestly your use of it. You do basically everything I do except the track days, and I'm sure it'd manage them just fine eh!
One of the more interesting things for me is I've seen people complain about these engines blowing up etc on occasion, but you're the only person I know is up to date on servicing etc…..so I take your experience as a lot more representative of how I would find it tbh.
Great video, I hope it keeps serving you well, enjoy the upcoming trip 🙂
I like the way they look, I love the way they sound especially when they accelerate. My mates is decatted with the original can, sounds beautiful.
You summed them up perfectly, animals.
Great video Rich, and you're right, why get rid of it if you enjoy it that much 👍
The Givi v37 panniers are great on an MT10 and the brackets are easy to fit.
Hi Richard .. .doin a long term review ..wow 8 years ..I came away with the definite knowledge that she's a sweet sports tourer ..Stock parts reliability .I have always said ,you want long engine life .Do not mess about with aftermarket exhaust ..Years of engine design arsed up with 30 minutes of spanner work ..gotta say the most expensive mod on the bike is the fuel saver ..Does a Carol come in blond and red head 😍 😍 😍 😍 😂😂😂😅
Nice review. It has held up well over 8 years.
A man that loves his bike…😊
MT10's are solid, very nice to hear the quick shift acceleration. My son and I share 2019 MT10 of 4 bikes. 31,313 miles, 35.5mpg spirited rides! Can't wait to see your Shad bag review. Take it easy! Eric C. NC-USA.😃😃
Good evening Richard decent review of your 8 year old bike they sometimes less is more I like the look of it 👍🏍️
I sold my 2021 MT 10 to get something different. I regretted that decision so much that I bought a 2023 MT 10 SP. Sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side.
The MT10 certainly has served you well, I totally get why you're so keen to hang on to it. My FZ1-S was very similar but I found the seat hard and used to get a numb bum after an hour or so. I only really sold it because the ZZR1400 was of a similar ilk only bigger and more comfortable. I've only just received notification for this video, come on YouTube 2 days late 😠
Very detailed review Richard. Really enjoyed it. When did you encounter the loose seat for the first time? Do you have any info from the first hand if the latest model has a better fuel consumption? I can only imagine how does it feel when you open the throttle. 🙂 Cheers bro.
