element a part of Denmark’s culture where they used to be seen as a symbol of Freedom Denmark has invested more than 215 billion dollars in cycling infrastructure and campaigns since 2019. just in 2021 alone almost 1.3 billion was allocated all across Denmark you can find Viking super highways and bike trails just look at these images Copenhagen has big sustainable development goals by 2025 they plan on being carbon neutral a major way they plan to achieve this is through the encouragement and development of biking infrastructure they hope to have 50 of all trips to work on bikes develop more three-lanes bike Lanes support cycling Innovation build businesses that support cycling infrastructure and promote biking in the workplace oftentimes when discussing sustainable development the idea of waiting for some life-changing technology is present Denmark is showing the world that the answer has been right in front of everyone’s eyes this entire time with Statistics like in all major cities Danes life around two kilometers per day 44 of Danish youth bike to school and in Copenhagen there are five times the number of bikes in there on cars Denmark’s encouragement of black culture has possibly affected the country’s sustainable development outcomes by improving the economy benefiting People’s Health and reducing its high emissions while the economy is not the first word that comes to mind when thinking about biking it’s a key component to sustainable development and the systems that the Danes have set up a major part of sustainable development is having a strong economy that is based on green infrastructure the Danish government has done an excellent job of integrating green activities like biking into business structures and the overall economy for example in Copenhagen 38 percent of street-level shop turnover is bikers this integration is essential to overall economic stability people are shopping at local businesses and having no carbon emissions additionally Society gains money from biking according to the data cycling Embassy for every kilometer traveled by bicycle Society gains 0.8 Euros in socioeconomic benefits cycling in the capital region means an annual Savings of approximately 1 billion euros and 1 million pure cities one may be thinking that it requires money to invest in cycling infrastructure this is true however these Investments are much cheaper compared to other transfer Investments Denmark is yellow for STG goals 8 and 9 which are decent work in economic growth as well as industry Innovation and infrastructure in both these areas the days work has made steady progress with gold mine being on track to be achieved by 2030 and goal 8 needing more work in youth employment the dams need to continue building this system and gain more traffic to local businesses the benefits of cycling far outweigh the small costs of Denmark’s economy it is essential that they continue to encourage it the health benefits the people of Denmark gain from biking are undeniable obesity is a major issue in the world people who bike to work as a primary mode of transportation have a 30 percent lower morbidity than the average person with more than 25 000 users of just one particular bike Highway and the greater Copenhagen area the public saves 215 000 Euros in health benefits every day people that are less obese have better cardiovascular fitness and increased strength and are less likely to need doctor’s appointments which are publicly paid for globally Viking avoids 170 000 deaths if the entire world had a cycling culture like Denmark this number would rise to 430 000 fewer deaths per year the benefits surpass just physical health one study found that children who bite into school every day are able to focus for four hours more than those to drive it can be assumed was also applied to adults as well biking causes the people of Denmark to be more productive healthier happier and wealthier leading to a very strong culture these factors contribute to the overall atmosphere of Denmark people work hard and get things done this culture shift contributes to sdg culture goals like quality education gender equality sustainable cities and communities no poverty and zero hunger the Danes are doing well in all these areas and has made significant improvements as shown if one thinks about it health is the most important aspect to sustainable development without helping people no one can do any other scg’s Denmark has successfully reduced deaths and created a happy Society so that they can improve sustainability in all other areas the most obvious benefit to Viking culture is the Environmental benefits Denmark has become a global leader in reducing its carbon emissions in 2015 the guardian noted that the EU could cut its transport greenhouse gas emissions by more than 25 percent if every country’s cycling rate was the same as Denmark’s on a global scale the 2015 bike levels in Denmark would reduce CO2 emissions by 414 million metric tons while gas electric cars also cut emissions they still need electricity which is often produced by burning fossil fuels electric cars also require massive investments in infrastructure development one study found that a total of 21 grams of carbon was released per passenger kilometer traveled on a bike 271 grams in a car and 101 grams or a bus the impact of electric assisted bicycles was almost as low as 22 grams it’s clear that cycling has made a huge impact on Denmark’s emissions this is essential for a country that naturally has high emissions due to the overall high wealth of its citizens Denmark is still in the red zone for climate action G’s but has had significant improvement with the reduction of CO2 Denmark needs to continue reducing its carbon emissions specifically in its Imports to get to this golden grief based on the Epi index Denmark ranks first on climate action with its CO2 reduction also ranking first this indicates that Denmark’s flight culture has had a major impact on the country’s overall sustainability Denmark isn’t perfect it has plenty of room to grow and improve its sustainability Denmark has however made momentous progress towards meeting sdg’s goals being cargo neutral and overall a very sustainable country they’re on track to achieve many of their goals much of this success is due to Denmark’s fostering of a Black Culture this culture improves the economy the health and happiness of its citizens and reduces carbon emissions well is it possible for biking to be implemented in all areas other countries need to take note of Denmark’s Triple Threat actions need to take place to meet Global Climate goals by 2050. so dust off your helmet hop on your bike and let’s get sustainable bye [Music]
