La Rioja: Day 1 | Mountain Biking in Spanish Wine Country

A weekend of Shuttle rides was long overdue. While this was officially the second day of our trip (the first being in Spanish Utah), this was Day 1 in La Rioja, wine country. But don’t let that fool you. We experienced some fantastically chunky, loose and fast descents, courtesy of the boys at TrackMTB.

morning guys hey and welcome to la rioja we are actually in a little tiny village called in es3 yes we just had breakfast and we’re getting ready to go out on the first right now this morning with the shuttle so we just went up to turn up I’ve got to take my pedals off the bike I’m gonna put the flats back on today and there’s a good group of us now I think there’s about ten of us maybe all together so we’re gonna get everything together ed up on the shelf for the first descent we’ve already had to change the first descent cos apparently they’re huntin this morning which is awesome yay go hunters and yeah so we’re gonna head out and I’ll catch you in a bit up on the trails so we just been dropped off at the top of the first shuttle run and it’s a little closed off at the moment the weather but the Sun is trying to shine through so I’m sure in an hour or so to open open up nicely for another day I figure in a while to get up to speed with this change the Train [Music] [Music] well glad I put the shin pads on today stones for it everywhere [Music] no no no that that’s the way inclination here how they get away English it’s totally fine yeah right okay well everybody maintain any kind of speed so you see the buzzards are right in front of us about 20 meters away Wow you ever seen them not close before yeah you see that nice one big big bird yeah then if you can see down there but it’s all the castle and everything built into the rock face and then if you can see the voltage there awesome let’s let my cat one of my many cats running up there having serious dicks dicks so much of this errors unpopulated over it is it’s totally deserted completely abandoned similar to answer but a far far more remote soon as you leave the main villages around here just completely alone there’s nothing around at all is what makes it a very special place oh my Forster forgot to mention that wiener dinosaur territory I think this is the largest collection of fossils prints bones of dinosaurs in Spain I’m not sure even if in Europe it’s a huge center for folks coming to do the dinosaur droughts second ascent shuttle run let’s do this one first off well the same fingers then again I opened up the same knee again shake really hard [Music] [Music] so we just got the second shuttle up of the morning now I write the head down I think after this we head back to the hostel we’ll have some lunch and then back up again this afternoon [Music] oh look at this so loose solo solos see time with you [Music] try and get more white well I said this is the stuff this is the stuff so sketches oh yes there keep it rolling slowly strength right here I basically maintain I still feel a friend says it’s the guy that’s doing the shuttle lift what it’s amazing I think they’re they’re keeping all this together this and the fact that the laborious cross guys and the motorbikes obviously they help keep the trailers clears well just get aside all right beautiful [Music] three to do my best keep my eyes as far forward as I can they’ll trick you it’s enclosed poor that’s pretty intense don’t mention her losers Oh Thank You Farley go dear yes that’s the morning done we’re gonna make our way back to the hospital there get some lunch we’re gonna ride back there I’m not sure how far it is to be honest get some lunch hey back out again this afternoon and get a couple more the sense in take out the workhorse in the literal sense run up the hill why don’t see that every day you let’s go up there the second shuttle of the day or rather in the afternoon after then say and this is where yard and if you can appreciate this view here but we like to go down the parent is what a pretty long descent again it’s late in the afternoon got about an hour at most of light so we got to get a move on [Music] Wow look at those views [Music] Wow yeah really slow in here Oh [Music] Oh whoa no idea what’s coming up after these drops for a walk oh pretty always end up losing in hallways turn to get left on their defeated on pump well I get lip on he’s getting away from me there again a bit too well fast and loose the leaders are getting chances don’t fancy falling down there we’re gonna weigh down to the last ascent of the day very very little light there right 25 to 6 Sun Goes Down 10 minutes already or all right style wheel can’t see a thing below the wheels hey you thought if I’m gonna be a big rock all of a sudden under the grass do not like that my lease hawkers importantly sir give me an idea what’s coming up it’s so little like there well it’s the first trailer first reduce today well that’s the final descent for the first time today being Saturday and it’s so dark May there’s no way we could ride anymore so we’re gonna load up the bikes as you can see head back to the hostel custom dinner and get ready for tomorrow tomorrow is just gonna be the morning we need to get back to Madrid in the afternoon so we’re gonna make the most of it and it’s been I gotta say I’ve enjoyed the trails more this afternoon and this morning a lot more flowy a lot a lot faster but yeah great unique unique landscape and just a great place to ride it was
