you coming to ski at anyc we make it accessible we make it easy it gives a lot of athletes an opport Unity to continue skiing at a high level at a competitive level but also at a really fun level as well [Music] my name is Bob Mard and I am the coach of the New England College ski team uh for the men and the women’s [Music] teams on good days which is most of the time uh we’re on on the lift first chair at 9:00 a.m. and most of the time we have a couple athletes we kind of rotate um which ones get to help coach carry the bundles down and help me set makes me set a little bit quicker when I’m not doing it by myself um um and during that time the athletes that aren’t helping out they’ll go off on the trails take a couple Free Runs warm up and that’s why we kind of rotate those kids that way not everyone is always doing one thing or the [Music] other so I love ski racing and I just love being able to come back out in the snow every single day and fighting to when not only for ourselves but as a team is one of the coolest things about uscsa [Music] it’s uh it’s a lot of work but it’s a lot of fun too I know we’ll come out gear every day we try to do at least one practice a day sometimes two obviously depends on conditions but always just out here trying to get [Music] better organized chaos it’s a great time but oh my God it could be a little wild sometimes it’s a lot of fun though I mean you show up it’s just a lot but it’s a good lot if that makes sense you know it’s great time I love [Music] it um I really like my coach uh he’s really concerned about our safety I really like that and he’s really good at instructing us um and giving us feedback being on the NC ski team is really awesome I have a bunch of awesome teammates and I really like my coach and Pat pe’s really close to the college so like all in all I think it’s a pretty good environment and [Music] everything it’s fun um especially like a day like after classes it gets you um out of the dorms and onto the slope so it’s really fun for the first two weeks when we get back from break we’ll be running double headers so we’ll have practice from 9:00 to 12:00 12:30 then we get a lunch break come back at 1:30 and practice until 3:30 or so and that’s about four or five times a week and then when we when classes start we drop it we we drop a practice every day so we’ll just have practice either in the morning morning or in the [Music] afternoon you show up get ready you’d go set you’d inspect the Course once twice if it needs it slip it then you’d run the course for an hour or two and usually depending on how the conditions are maybe uh pull once it gets a little ify [Music] you get ready it’s jokes getting dressed getting ready you get out on the hill you help coach set you go take a free run you slip you do it as a team then you take your runs and you have teammates there to help bounce off ideas about what you’re going to do on your run how your run win what you can do better what you can change [Music] SC lard is one of my favorite coaches I’ve ever had throughout my career he’s a great guy lots of fun to be around I mean he helps you he’ll be nice to you he’ll tell you what you need to know relax your skiing bring it back a tad right still use some intensity right you’re trying to get it’s a good way to get out aggression but relax your body a little bit go on a lift take some breaths now ski a division one coaches course set you set come on come on come on let’s go all right I really love that he’s the coach from this team cuz he’s been really supportive to all of us I’d say um he helps us improve at our skills and he helps us um make sure that we’re working as hard as we can to do everything we can to become better at our sport while also having a good time like he’s not super strict like some coaches are in some teams but like he makes it fun while still making us get better which is kind of what you want out of a coach looking [Music] good so he’s really caring when you’re having a bad day he doesn’t take you like all your bad gear he tries to motivate you and helps you go back to normal I said you got a smile on your face happy how I that Wonder yeah that you definitely hit that that delay much much better and kind of getting yourself ready for that next turn into here yeah you got to but for me coming back from injury I have unrealistic expectations so he’s able to help me manage those and help me create new goals for myself he’s a great person um so like I said he I came in here and never racing before so he really um helped me a lot skiing and racing cuz I’ve never done it before so he taught me everything that I know about racing you know I like I like to be you know really watch watch each watch each athlete and you know over time figure out you know what each athlete needs um you know skiing is a very individual sport even though we are still a team and we’re looking for team results um but really it’s kind of all on you and you know I try to you know the first couple weeks when it’s a you know a new Athlete on the team a freshman um you know trying to get to know them on a personal personal level which I think is is different from other sports where you know you might not get that one-on-one time with your coach all the [Music] time we are super lucky to have patch Peak 4 minutes from our campus and so we utilize that as much as we can and even on a bad day um you know even if we can’t set gates in and do what we really want to do we can do drills and prepare love pets snows uh some of the best in Southern New Hampshire typically you know for the most part you know we got really good snow they’re typically the first Mountain to be 100% open it’s always always a good time to SK here the location of it very great for at least me I very I can be at here in 10 minutes [Music] one of the reasons why why we came for this sport in college was to really enjoy it because we enjoyed it through high school and when you are at a higher level of competition it’s easy to there’s more eyes on you generally it’s easier to get into your own head and I love the feel of the Wind on my face I I love ski racing I love the thrill the adrenaline [Music] sh the school is amazing being 5 minutes from the mountain it’s super easy you get free tickets don’t have to pay much to get into the team if you’re new to skiing you could walk on and we’d accept you and it’d be all right [Music] oh [Music]
