I recently became the owner of this early ’80s Koga Miyata Roadflyer. I bought it from the first owner and it has not been frequently used for quite a while. I’ve done basic bike maintenance previously and consider myself quite handy. However, I have a lack of experience with old bikes and to assess the condition of for example the sprockets.
The freewheel is a 5-speed Shimano 600ED (13-15-17-19-22). What do you think about the condition of the cogs? If you consider them worn out, are there any replacements around? I’ve struggled to find info about the 600ED (I’ve found alot about Shimano 600, but not specifically the 5-speed 600ED).The rear derailleur is an Altus-LT.
What’s your assessment of the chainrings (42T and 52T) condition?
I have a Shimano HG-71 chain at home, it is rated 6/7/8-speed. I assume it will work for the 5-speed as well, but can someone confirm?
Any other tips or tricks for this beautiful bike?
I’m getting rid of the old cracked plastic fenders. Are there any okay or even good looking fenders around? I’ve googled without great success. If not, the wet won’t hurt me.
