If you seriously want to move to the Netherlands, I wouldn’t move to Amsterdam, since it’s the most expensive. There are a lot of other great Dutch cities like Haarlem, Groningen, Utrecht and a lot more. You should look online of which other cities would be great alternatives
Quite right. The network is country wide, and it's pretty dense. So there are many routes within cities, but also between them, the same for villages.
Ah girl, 9 months out of 12 it is wet, windy weather, and 6 months out of 12 it is dark and cold as well. You would not like it here.
Hi Ruky, A few little things. The country is not "Holland", Holland is actually just a part of the country, 2 provinces to be exact (North and South Holland) but we are called the Netherlands.
The part where you are talking about your experience in Manila with cycling, you are looking at examples from North America (Either USA or Canada)… that footage with the green paths and with the bus is not the Netherlands.
Yes, you are actually spot on, cycling CAN help you with staying fit and in the Netherlands cycling is so easy and safe, anyone can and will do it. I am 54 myself, I cycle a few 100 kilometers a week just for fun. I stay fit and young and don't have to pay a huge gym membership or wait for machines to be free so I can use them. I just grab my bike and head out.
The cycle infrastructure is so good that it is in fact possible to cycle from the northern most part of the country to the southern most part without ever really leaving the cycle infrastructure,
Don't be to hasty with the "I want to move there" lol, these images are taken on nice days with good weather. Our country is basically one giant riverdelta. We have wet, cold, dark winters and it is a running joke that "We love summer, we just had it yesterday". We cycle in every weather. Sun, rain, storm, snow, blizzard, typhoon… we no care… we go.
However, if you ever get the chance, do visit us. And if you visit us a little tip. Visit Amsterdam…. sure… but stay in another town. It will save you tons of money. And no worries, if you stay in another city and don't want to cycle to Amsterdam or elsewhere as besides our excellent cycle infra, we also have one of the worlds best public transport systems connecting the entire country and giving easy access to neighboring countries like Germany and Belgium or even France (Amsterdam-Paris by train takes 3 and a half hours)
Greetings from Utrecht, the Netherlands
Did you know that we (the Dutch) have more bikes than people in the Netherlands? The population is 17m and we have 22,8m bikes. Stunning right? Greetings from the Netherlands.
Netherlands is plural since Holland, Friesland, Zeeland, Gelderland are part of the Netherlands
Be aware that these days its full off e/bikes and fatt/bikes they tuned them up,so where a helmet when you go to bike in Amsterdam!
Please note: The laws in the Netherlands towards the protection of soft targets (pedestrians/Cyclists) are well organized. When you would cause a collision with either one of them driving your car, you will be almost ALWAYS be the person at fault.
I am from Belgium and we don't have this cycling architecture yet. But there is another for me important thing. Every car driver will be on a bike sometime. So they personaly know the problems, can and do take it into account. That is where safe cycling starts, with the behavior of the drivers. So we have few accidents with cyclists involved.
Holland is no city.
i hope the dutch know that their worst cycling infrastructure is better than our best in the united states.
1:43 This is a cycle path, just for bicycles You can find them most commonly in the countryside, where they ste used either for leisure, or to get to another town or village.
5:10 Cycling next to that bus looks so scary.
Cycled 125 miles to visit family on the other side of the country and only about 15 miles was shared road, including every intersection I had to cross. The rest of it protected cycling paths, along dikes, between lakes, through nature, parks, towns, cities. You’ll see and enjoy everything as opposed to a boring concrete expressway or a toll road you already paid for with taxes.
@5:25 Be aware and keep in mind:
1) Is the driver able to see you?
2) Has de driver seen you?
Especially with large and heavy vehicles, you can easily find yourself in a blind spot if you position yourself too close to the vehicle. (Front, back and sides)
Furthermore, if you're hidden behind a large vehicle, other traffic will not see you, expect you or wait for you.
My advice: do not overtake a bus or truck if you can't be within sight or some separation from it.
Try to make eye contact with any traffic that crosses your path, if they fail to do the same, expect they have not seen you. Most of all, be visible. Even in the Netherlands, too many (especially youth) cyclists ride at dusk, night or dawn without working lights. (Other than the screen they're holding while not paying attention to anything) They easily blend in and become near invisible until too late. Be aware of your vulnerability, because if others cannot see you, they won’t be aware of you.
When you sniff food you gain like 20 kilos? hahaha. Not laughing at you… but a fun comment! I love your doors, gorgeous doors
