Cycling Lake Como Italy – Muro di Sormano & Ghisallo climb from Bellagio – best road cycling routes

2 road cycling routes around Lake Como, Italy. Some famous cycling climbs from Tour of Lombardy race ( Giro di Lombardia ) in this video: Muro di Sormano and Mandonna del Ghisallo climbs – a beautiful cycling route that starts in the Bellagio town.
Lake Como area is perfect for cycling but also for visiting as a turist. There are many things to do around Lake Como. Menaggio & Varenna are also beautiful places to visit on the shores of Lake Como. Lake Lugano and Lake Piano are also verry close.

Cross the Como Lake by Ferry, in Menaggio town and go to Lago di Piano where we did a second cycling loop up to Carvagna mountain village.

Cycling around Lake Como, on the main roads is quite crowded and with busy traffic. Take these 2 recommended cycling routes in the region of Lake Como to get the best out of it. The loop of Madonna del Ghisallo and Muro di Sormano climbs from Bellagio is a classic one as it is part of the Giro di Lombardia (Tour of Lombardy) classic cycling race .

On top of the Ghisallo climb you will find the church of Madonna del Ghisallo . This is the Church of the Cyclists as Madonna del Ghisallo is the official protector of cyclists. When you will enter it you will have a big surprise: the church is decorated with bikes, jerseys, photos and trophies from legends of the sport: Eddie Merckx, Miguel Indurain, Marco Pantani, Fausto Coppi and manny others. It’s a incredible museum.

Muro di Sormano is a hard and steep climb (15.5% average slope with max. of 22%). Take it as a personal cycling challenge to make it all the way to the top without stopping.
