Somebody donated this painted frame and wheelset to the bike shop I was working last summer and I decided to build it up as a gravel rig:) model numbers, serials and all were painted over. I suspect it’s a CAADX in the 2012-2015 time range… all that matters is that this is the “gravellyboi” as its previous owner named it. Thought of painting over in pink but felt like the gravellyboi spirit needed to keep living….. I used parts only from my personal parts bin and the bike shop’s bin to see how low cost I could keep this thing besides the seat (grand total of around $225)
Build details & cost(what I added):
Salsa chipper bars (parts bun)
Pink bar tape from qbp ($10)
Specialized stem ($25)
Shimano 105 rear derailleur (parts bin)
Shimano 105 shifter/brakes (parts bin)
Cane Creek Headset
SRAM Dub Crankset (traded an old Lemond frame to my boss for this and the headset)
SRAM DUB Bb30a ($25)
Specialized pathfinder tires (parts bin)
Bb7 Brakes (free)
SRAM rotors (parts bin for front, $15 rear cuz I couldn’t find the right size)
Specialized PowerComp Mimic ($150)
Random seat post from my garage (free)
I could have used a cheap seat but I care about myself so I spent decent money to get one that doesn’t make me want to cut any body parts off
Sofar I have about 200 miles on this thing and it has treated me well, I love it, can’t wait for more adventures and remember biking doesn’t have to be expensive
(Lmk if u want gear ratio details or other specifics)
