I have a hybrid REI CTY 1.1 bike I got about 3 years ago for about $500. I’ve used it to bike around a bit. I’ll bike on it once a week to work (about 8 miles), use it on a very casual group ride, and will do weekend rides from 30-50 miles.
REI has a sale one their ADV 2.1 bike for $778. Normal price shows at $1300.
Would this be good money to replace my CTY1.1 bike or am I just throwing money away?
I’m hoping to be able to ride a bit faster on the bike. Mainly for longer rides. My friends have road bikes, and I’ve ridden with them on my hybrid, but I’m trying to see if I can keep up a bit better.
I’m concerned about the gears as well. The CTY 1.1 has 24 gears, while the ADV 2.1 has 16.
I also ride on some gravel roads at the park which is another reason for looking at this bike and not a road bike.
