In ‘91 I was in Ecuador. I left my friends in Quito and went to Columbia to bike solo. I got to the Ecuador/Columbia border at 9 at night, with the stomach flu, and put the bike together and started the actual pedalling. Crazy days. I remember on my way to the border looking for a place to sleep and the locals told me, the gringo, with the classic signing of the knife to the neck to not go down the side road.

I wouldn’t do it now but it was fun back then. I biked across the border and stayed at this place with a room and I remember they had the TV volume on 12!! I was happy to have the room.

I ended up staying for weeks in Tierradentro, Columbia. I highly recommend it.

(Some troll didn’t think it was possible for other people to travel in South America so I looked through the ancient diaries). Good times.
