  1. And once again, we have an example of a race director brushing aside safety concerns and warnings with disastrous consequences. Jonas himself had told the organisers that this descent was unsafe but he was duly ignored (as is most often the case). There needs to be a new system of checks and balances in place that empowers the riders (or the riders union) to boycott any race where concerns are not addressed or neglected in such a manner. This cannot keep going on like this.

  2. i remember this also being the issue last year in Tour of the Basque. we had a death last year aswell in tour of Swiss. Its a debate that really need to reach UCI when do they ever learn to build thouse barriers! It should be a criteria for World Tour Races. We went from maybe the most exciting Tour de France to now not even knowing if it will be a 1 rider contest for all 3 tours. I think sadly we see more and more of these big crashes that is on the edge to disasters.

  3. Extremely sad. Best wishes to the riders for a complete and speedy recovery. I do think the race organizers have a job to do in analyzing the turn to see if it out of the ordinary or if something could have been done to reduce the risk. I get that to some extent this is part of the sport, and challenging routes are part of an exciting race. It still should be looked at, because this is bad for the sport overall.

  4. Ok, another "old man yells at cloud" moment, and I only raced the Midwestern crit circuit and have ridden – but not raced – throughout France including the Alps. I get that it's a long course through open countryside and navigating it/bike handling are part of the Big boys and girls racing scene, but can't they have an actual high level racer recon the course and at least point out the most egregious spots like this for some padding or at least web fencing?

  5. For Jonas the bruised lung(s) idk…. Collar bones heal like any other bone but PT is the key. Luckily the legs of all sound like they’re okay but lung(s)? 💔
