I have a tight, but slightly flexible budget. And I’m trying to go around the US bikepacking indefinitely doing seasonal work. I have basically everything I need except a bike, in my area there’s a 1980’s Schwinn sierra for $50 in good condition. I would be putting better tires on it, and it needs racks, but it’s only $50. My next option was a Mongoose Elroy for $600 and putting a rear rack on it. Should I go for the more expensive bike or just rock the vintage MTB?
