I am new to biking (haven’t rode much since I was a kid) and am looking to pick up a bike to go on rides with the family that is under $500. I would be doing primarily paved trail riding and occasionally doing non-paved trail riding through the woods (nothing crazy, just easy trails).
I am 6’3″ and have been told I would want a bike with either 27.5″ or 29″ wheels and a L or XL frame. In my area I have not had much luck finding gently used bikes that are the appropriate size. When I do, they are either rust buckets or they are $1k+. I found this listing today for a Specialized Crave 2×10 with a L frame for $400. It appears to be in good shape, but admittedly I don’t know what all to look for. I have been told initially from friends who ride that the price is high because the bike is older, the geometry is iffy, and for the asking price there are better bikes available new close to that range. What are your thoughts and recommendations?
