I’m in Austin and currently just have an ebike I like a lot, but it’s heavy, can’t take on long rides, and the cheaper aluminum parts are being destroyed by our crappy roads. I’ve been looking for a second bike that’s both lighter and tougher and I can maybe even convert to handle gravel and saw this bike in person today. It hasn’t been ridden in awhile and needs new tubes, tape, and a tuneup and it’s well-loved, cosmetically speaking (I don’t particularly care about that however). I ride bikes to commute all over town every day and get around 3,000 miles a year on them and I would like to get into longer trail rides.

My question is: am I just being googly-eyed over the Surly brand and in reality this is not a good deal for what I need? And if so, are there other options under $1k (used) that I should be keeping an eye out for?
