Hello all,
due to a sudden change in circumstances at work, I might be able to take June/July/August off, which will allow me to fulfill a long-held dream of cycling the US.
I plan to start in Florence OR, follow the TransAm until Toronto KS, use the Eastern Express Connector to Indianapolis and from there cycle to New York City on the Chicago/NY route.
While planning this trip I stumbled upon a few things I dont know, so maybe you guys can help?
\- How does one best get to Florence OR with their bike?
My idea is to fly to Portland, take Amtrak (train or bus) to Eugene and then take Pacific Crest Buslines’ LinkLane from Eugene to Florence. Is this a good approach?
Since it relies on taking busses, I’d prefer to send my bike to Florence before starting the trip. Does anyone know a bike shop or similar in Florence, that is willing to receive and store a bike?
\- The stove I will be using works with this type of threaded gas cartridges:

Are these common in the US?
\- I read that dogs can be an issue. Does anyone have experience with ultrasonic dog repellers?
Maybe there is even one that works like a beacon and you can put it on your bike so that dogs (and other animals) dont even come close to you while cycling?
\- Is much cash needed on this trip or do all places accept credit cards, even e.g. campsites in the middle of nowhere?
\- Same question for water and electrical power:
how much water should I carry with me, and how many mAh should my powerbank have?
I will need it to operate smartphone, bike computer (Garmin Edge), headphones
Also, in case anyone reading this will be on the same route at the same time, feel free to drop me a message! I’m a 31 years old guy from Germany planning to cycle about 65 miles per day
Thanks a lot!
