The City Centre West to East Link, or CCWEL, is a new active route that aims to make it easier for people walking, wheeling, or cycling to get around. This will benefit everyone in the community, including local businesses, by creating safer transportation options across the city. The route connects Roseburn and Leith Walk, and it has been designed to transform public spaces so that everyone can feel included and connected.

Recently, CCWEL was launched with an official event attended by members of the community, the Council project team, Councillor Scott Arthur (Transport and Environment Convener), Patrick Harvie (Minister for Active Travel) and representatives from Sustrans Scotland who took part in a group ride along.

It’s fantastic to finally be here uh at the launch event uh with this new protected cycle way that provides access to and through the city center uh from the west of the city to the east over 50% of people in Edinburgh want this type of infrastructure want a sustainable Greener and healthier travel

Choices and this is one of the things that would make that happen there’s much more space and for the cars and for the people who are cycling it’s much faster well um because there’s no traffic and stuff that the roads are smoother now we used cycling quite a lot and I think

That was all the always the problem for us getting connections into the city center which is where we want to go ultimately and this gives us that as well and it connects nicely cuz we’re on the east side of the city H with the leaf walk one so it’s nice to get the

Two connecting together it allows Edinburgh to move to rewards our really ambitious H Targets in terms of um climate change mitigation and in terms of modal shift encouraging people to get out the cars and to walk and cycle more regularly as part of their day-to-day Journeys now got a pipeline of projects

Going forward which people will see either getting completed or starting in the coming months and years so this is a real Tipping Point for us today I think
