Touring Ireland and Westport, we biked 37+ miles (60+ kilometers) of the Great Western Greenway on rental bikes in October of 2023. Views of waterways, farmland, cows, sheep and donkeys were thrilling and unique. Bikes are cruisers, though (not hybrids and certainly not road bikes) so they are slow and it took us about 4 hours or time in the saddle. Loved (almost) every minute of it! (We were not told by bike rental company/and were not aware, that the Greenway route was closed in three parts; that led to longer detours than expected in some pretty remote-feeling areas, and some rougher roads.) While there are towns with food and stores along the way, I wish I had brought extra water and a battery charger for my phone (some areas could not get a signal/connection) just to ease my anxiety in the far flung areas of the route. Otherwise it is one of the best things I did in my three weeks in Ireland. Wish I filmed more for a better example of the scenes.
